Sprint hd2 - who would buy - HD2 General

This thread is in hopes that everyone who signs could speak themselves to sprint. If enough signatures are put on here i will forward this thread to sprint's marketing team. The question poses out there, who would actually go to sprint and pay a figure of $349.99 with a new contract for a sprint hd2?

i'd buy for 400-450 + a 1-2yr agreement. as long as they dont cripple it or drastically change its appearance.
i want it right now, cash in the hand.
i see this phone lasting me at least 2yrs before it becomes obsolete

I would definetely buy one from Sprint!

Hell yes! My contract is up with AT&T and Im ready to change to either Sprint or Tmobile whoever gets the HD2.

Absolutely!
I would definitely enjoy it if Sprint would consider taking on the HD2 for it's gracious clients without making any crazy changes to it. I just got the TP2 and would have to get rid of it to make room for the HD2. Let's make it happen Sprint, please?!?!

Me too, I would gladly leave Verizon for Sprint if they get the HD2. Don't cripple it though!

I don't think I would leave ATT for Sprint. CDMA is just too crippled. I love switching to the newest phones all the time, and that usually entails Euro GSM phones

I woulda definitely got it, but most likely would leave to USMC by time phone is released.

I am holding off buying a TP2 til at least January at which time I hope the HD2 would be available on Sprint. If not, I would probably get a TP2 even though I would prefer the HD2. If Sprint does get the HD2 I would wait even longer but if becomes evident that Sprint will NOT offer the HD2, I'll get a TP2.

HD2
I'm definatly in i really like the size of the iphone over my Diamond but i don't want to leave Sprint/Nextel after some 15 years...

'Definitely would purchase, HOWEVER, I would really, really, REALLY appreciate it if Sprint were to continue the Worldphone functionality of the Touch Pro2, but include all 3G frequencies. A keyboard would be great, too (a la Touch Pro2), as well as a trackball (a la Hero). 'Just my two cents, but Sprint and HTC would have some VERY F*&%IN' happy customers. Then, maybe I'd consider makin' the switch.

Immediately
i would immediately purchase this phone if it came to sprint in fact ive been waiting for a very very long time and now when it came down to the final stretch i was very disappointed to see t-mobile take the cake ..... BRING THIS PHONE TO SPRINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess no chance of sprint releasing an HD2 ehh? Love that giant screen and being wm6.5 hopefully no "iconic phone" restrictions.

really funny 2 years later I just retired my HD2! It was modded with CM7 but it still worked like a charm!

'Retired', as in? Do you mean you sold it, or do you want to sell it?

It all depends on Verizon's Android offerings. I'm up for a new phone in October and I know my wife is ready for a new phone, as am I, so it all depends.
My hardware renewal is coming up at the end of November, and I've been informed by an inside source that Telus is getting the Hero. So I'll be getting that, unless they also get the Samsung i7500.
I was a late adopter of the Vogue. Grabbed it from Verizon as it was being discontinued in order to have a smartphone that didn't require a data plan. I have more than 1.5 years until I'm up for renewal.
I have had the Vogue for 2 years now, and my contract was up a few weeks ago... I am just waiting for either the Hero to be at Sprint or AT&T to have an Android phone...
Biding my time...

You won't have long for either if the leaks are to be believed.
I was an early adopter for the Vogue on Alltel. Bought the first one in our area. I've been up for an upgrade, but since we're a part of Verizon, I'm waiting to see what they have in Android offerings this winter. Supposedly, Motorola is releasing one on Verizon.
hero
I wanted the touch pro2.
UNTIL,
I started using the hero OS on my vogue!
OMG! HERO ALL THE WAY! Thank you sprint!

Same here, atx. Unfortunately I'm not on Sprint but hopefully with HTC pushing more and more Android phones one is bound to hit Verizon this year.
I'm getting a Sprint TP2, TD2, or TG01, which ever is best and is announced before the end of the year. Or switching to Verizon and getting the Omnia II (but their prices suck so much compared to Sprint's).
I'm getting the HTC Hero on Sprint (if it's not too slow)
Am kinda sure that the hero and the touchpro2 are coming out this year.. which is good for the people that like them :B
I want the diamond2 so bad.. but not even 1 leak picture that can give me hope
Reading some of the posts about the Hero being slow and laggy with the Touchflo interface, I'm hesitant to get one. My contract is up in December with Sprint. I'm pretty sure that any Sprint Android phone will not work with my SERO plan and don't think I want to get the everything plan. I don't come close to my 500 minutes I currently have, just lots of text and data, so I don't want to pay the $100 a month or the overpriced lesser plans.
Might just stick with my vogue running android for a while as long as it keeps getting updates.
Speaking of the Sprint hero, I may be switching from Verizon to Sprint because of the huge difference in price would allow me to have data access on my phone. Having Android on my Vogue has really made me want the Hero or another Android phone, but the Pre seems really appealing too.
I'm only a year into my contract but I'm eligible for a primary phone upgrade under my family plan. When the prices dropped on current verizon smartphones I almost pulled the trigger on a touch pro but with the Omnia II and htc touch pro 2 coming out soon I might wait. The Omnia II has the specs I'm looking for and would be a nice upgrade from my touch. I wonder how much the omnia II (or touch 2) would cost on verizon. How much did the omnia I cost when it first came out?
I love my Vogue... I'd be content on it forever most likely. But I do yearn for something fancy like Android, so I may get the Hero
As for it being laggy, I bet software tweaks will fix that. Hopefully you can disable the Touchflo interface, I never liked those showy themes anyways.
I'm hoping for the Motorola Calgary on Verizon before the end of the year, but I'm not 100% sold on it. Need more specs, info about the build. I worry about how horribly Verizon will mangle Android, but then I know someone will unlock it at some point and I'll be able to put whatever I want on there.

Anyone else looking forward to their next phone?

If so, which phone do you want?
I have had many PDA phones from HTC. I've probably had the Touch the longest out of all of them. I had the Diamond for a couple of months but returned it as the battery lasted only a fraction of the time that my touch did with the same settings. I hear the GSM version didn't have as much of a battery issue as the CDMA version. I currently am running build 6.5 23081 on my Touch and it is the best OS and build so far I've had on it but the phone is missing so many features I would like. While the Touch has served me very well, I'm looking forward to my next model.
I'm on Sprint so my choices are limited but I'm hoping they are considering the HD2 as they have a poll on their web site to find out if people would like it - http://community.sprint.com/baw/poll.jspa?poll=1040
I want the faster processor
I want the bigger screen
I want the flash (as I use vjcandela and other programs to use the phone as a flashlight)
I want the higher resolution
I want the new touch screen
I want the HD2
im buying a blackberry or htc hero this week. im done with winmo.
Well it's rumored that the HTC Dragon is coming to Verizon. I'm going to hold out on getting anything else. The dragon is the android version of the hd2. So i'll be looking at a 1GZ Snapdragon powered Android 2.0 phone with sense ui. I hope it doesn't melt my hands.

yeah but i wonder what the price tag will be? better start saving now zen.
I can't imagine the phone NOT being subsidized in part by the carrier, you know... like everything else they've ever put out - it'll just be close to half a million when it first comes out like it always is.
But yes, I like the touch a lot but I really miss the hardware keyboard on my MotoQ, I am now not only against all screen keyboards, but will never buy another phone that doesn't have a hardware keyboard now.

HA did you say YOUR choices are limited? I'm with Bell Mobility. MY CHOICES ARE MUCH MORE LIMITED
well i can say goodbye to winmo in a few days. i just got a great deal on 2 new blackberry curves from sprint for only $50, so i got one phone for free!
come on windows mobile is great. i only have to hard reset every week or so.
I've had my WinMo HTC Touch with Sprint for over two years and I had to hard reset all of like twice....and one of those times was just to install WinMo 6.1. So yeah, maybe you guys are just doing something wrong, lol.
As far as my next phone, I am getting that HTC Touch Pro 2!! It look so amazing and I am dying to get my hands on it. HOWEVER, I just might change my mind because these new 1GHz phones seem so freakin' beastly. I gotta see when they'll be out and if it'll be worth the wait. Also I gotta see if they have all the features I want.
The Verizon Eris or Droid doesnt look so bad......
Canada wont get the Motorola droid for months and when we do it will be a 3 year contract with a $500 activation fee and a minimum $60 monthly plan with 500mb transfer and NOT unlimited texting just like the Palm Pre. Epic failure.
It's Droid for the Wifey and I at the end of the Week!!!!

$50.00 to pre-order/hold the Handset, $149.99 due at the time of pickup (price with new 2 year contract is $299, but Best Buy gives you the $100 rebate instantly unlike Verizon retail locations)

I went into the local Bell retail store, looking at phones. Talked to the guy about the HTC Touch Diamond. He looks at me weird, asks "You like Windows Mobile??". I grin back, and say, "No, I like Android, but that's the closest I can get with you guys." I pull out my vogue and show him plemen's themed Donut build. At this point he tells me to hold on to my $200 upgrade credit a bit longer... as they will have the Samsung Galaxy within a month! Apparently the Samsung rep had been in the day before to talk 'em up about the Galaxy and Android, how awesome it's gonna be... yadda yadda. Needless to say, I'm holding onto that upgrade credit of mine for a *bit* longer
The galaxy is very un-exciting.
Better to get an unlocked Hero from Telus and put it on Bell.

Just saying hello to my new home.

I'm definitely 100% getting this phone when it comes out. Perfect timing too, as I get my upgrade in May.
Will you guys be buying this phone?
Best believe I will be getting this! And my upgrade isnt gonna be till oct but I am just gonna buy it or get it for the bday
i voted "i want to but dont have sprint". I have verizon but would definately switch for sprints fairer plans and this beast phone. but i dont think i have ANY sprint coverage in my area. I checked to see how many sprint stores i have in my area and in a 50 mile radius there were only 2!! all other carriers had over 10!! i also dont know anyone with sprint. could anyone tell me how i could get a complete view of how much coverage certain carriers do have in comparison?? i go to there sites but it just seems incomplete
I will be getting this phone for sure! This will be the best phone hands down.
I don't know if I will be getting it the first day out of the gate but I know that I will purchase it shortly after it has been release. I currently have the HTC Vogue and would love to have a larger screen and the flexibility of Android now.
I love how amped so many people are over this phone. I cant wait til release day
I'm going to be all over this the day it comes out! or soon there after. I can't wait to ditch my TP. I'll miss winmo but I won't miss the 2.8" screen or the ancient 528mz processor.
this will without question be replacing my creaky old kaiser with ATT. im looking forward to everything about it and sprints plan pricing.
Will sure get a Supersonic or Desire, haven't fully decided yet!
I think, I'll be taking that day off
After 6 years of being a Cingular/AT&T customer, I am switching to Sprint just for this phone.
if/when there is a gsm version i will get it for sure
but for now i wait...
I've been with AT&T for eight years, and I'm planning on switching to Sprint when this phone comes out. Currently I have a Nokia N97. No Comment........
Been with sprint for...awhile...and I'm sitting on my upgrade for this. I need to get rid of this horrid TP (RAPH800).

Is a Hero worth buying at....

$200? I can get a Telus Hero from a friend for only $200. I am on AT&T in the states and the phone works on our 3G. The phone is in immaculate shape and is less than 5 months old. The phone is not rooted or altered in any way. I have an iPhone that was given to me by my company but I just like Android better. I would love to have a N1 or Desire (if it ever comes to AT&T) but I am warming to the idea of having a great phone for so little money. I need some input. Give me the pros and cons. Put up a good case to talk me out of it or into it. TIA.
Pros:
* It's Android.
Cons:
* It's Android 1.5.
* Outdated hardware.
* It has all but been officially abandoned by HTC. Don't expect even major bugs to be fixed in a timely manner. I also wouldn't hold my breath for any update after 2.1.
When the Hero came to Sprint, I was excited. My store launched a day ahead of schedule and I got one then. Then it took HTC over a month to release a fix for a battery bug that drastically reduced the standby time. Then they announced the 2.1 over four months ago, and have been nearly silent since then.
If you don't care about your phone being updated and a little buggy, by all means, buy the Hero from your friend. But if want a good phone that will be updated timely, save your $200 toward a N1 or a non-HTC phone (if you can't avoid HTC, make sure it is supported by another reputable company, like Google for the Nexus One).
As someone who bought the Hero as soon as it was available on my network, I can say that I am thoroughly disappointed with HTC and would not buy another phone from them that is not supported by someone else.
No its a great phone.I had no problem with it.I am currently on 2.1 Herodroid. The phone for me is fast reliable,I am not on a 3G,and also in the US.Plus its a cool looking phone, that can go up against an iphone. For notifications and access to emails, texts, facebook, tweeter, etc, etc. All at the flick of a thumb, with HTC Andriod.Compared to the iphone, where you have to navigate to each one..
Thanks for the replies. Keep them coming guys. I guess I am a phone ho. I cannot just have one phone. I will probably use this and bounce back and forth to the iPhone as well when I get bored. All things considered, I would take the N1 or Desire 10 times out of 10 if they were even close in dollars. No contracts and only unlocked phones for me though. I am just trying to decide where the price is at a can't lose situation.
Awesome phone
I have a Telus Hero that I am using on AT&T in Atlanta. The phone is awesome. I rooted and am running VillainRom. It is fast, 3g works great! I paid $500 directly from Telus and think it was worth every penny! $200 is a steal!
The problem with waiting for at&t to have the desire is that they are going to pull an at&t on it and limit the hell out of it. The at&t desire will supposedly be without google. Can you imagine? Also $200 is much less than the $500+ for the N1, which some are having issues with.
If you want an Android phone that works great on at&t 3g, and can be modified to your liking, GET THE HERO.
Also, since at&t has no record of the imei's of these phones, you can use the $15 a month unlim data plan with no problems rather than the $30 pda plan.

What will come first, Android ROM or WP7 port?

In your opinion, which one do you think will come to the HD2 and if you had to choose, which one would you get?
first will come people who should have gotten an iPhone asking when a dumbed down os will be available. giventhe choice, i stay with the ROM that came with the phone, that'swhy i got it in the first place
What I wish would come first is the time when people looking for Android on an HD2 realize that they should just suck it up and get an EVO. But, that's probably not going to happen any time soon.
Seriously, though, I think the WP7 port will come before Android.
port
With the extraordinary chefs of XDA my bet would be on WM7 getting to the HD2 first.
My 2 sense....
fhaines
Well seeing as a basically fully working WP7 was already ported and working on the HD2 I would say that one first.

Sprint's probably got better coverage than T-Mobile. I'm starting to regret switching over to T-Mobile from AT&T for the HD2. I should have spent the $800 to get the australian HD2 and stayed on AT&T. Now I've got a 2 year contract with T-Mobile.
Back on topic... I think WP7 will probably have a port first. I'd like to play around with both WP7 and Android on my phone, but I'll keep WM6.5 as my main OS. That's what I bought the phone for. It'll be awhile, if ever, until there's a stable port of either of them, anyways.

Sorry to hear that. Wondering why you didn't go with getting the HD2 from T-Mo without a contract. In the long run, it's cheaper and you aren't locked in. You didn't have to pay for the phone in full up front, either.
I did this, bought the phone for $449 and their Even More Plus with Text + Web. No 2 year contract and over the two years, I save almost $240 over getting the subsidized phone and a more expensive contract. If I had the need to switch to someone else, I'll sell the phone and move on.
Are you people serious? You should NEVER switch to a cell phone company for a freaking phone. Look at all the stupid idiotic iphone customers who switched to at&t to get one. How many of them hate at&t because of it. I will be honest, I have sold for S,V,A and now T, and quite honestly it really irritates me to see people treat the industry as a product industry. IT IS A SERVICE INDUSTRY PEOPLE! The products are just a secondary thought, or at least they should be. At&t really ruined it with that craptasatic iphone. I'm not saying it is a horrible phone, but it is not, nor is any phone worth switching to a company that you don't get service with or who has horrible customer service. I would like to see android ported over from the new Sprint phone that is being released so I can duel boot and get the best of both worlds, but F#[email protected] Sprint. I wouldn't have that companies service again if they paid me to.
I'm guessing WP7 will be the 1st port. I'd love to have Android b4 WP7 hits. But, its just wishful thinking I guess.

Sure, it's a service industry. But one that happens to have products that use the service. Until all of them make the same devices available across the board, the reality is some will have devices that others don't. And Sprint may be horrible to you, but there are plenty of users who would swear by it and say the same about T-Mo, AT&T, etc.
BTW, it's just a phone.

Nah, it's a product industry. If it were a service industry, everyone would be 4G and rising by now.
Yeah, it should be service-oriented, but everyone knows that these companies make money off their handsets, not their all-in-one plans.
Look at AT&T. They seriously offer a new product now (for only $99!) that connects to your home internet service and "boosts" the cellular signal.
Read that last one again. Yeah, they are offering you a new product because they know their signals suck indoors. And that product uses bandwith on your own internet connection. And they are charging you for it. So, AT&T knows they suck and instead of building their infrastructure, they are actually selling their "solution" to the very people who are already paying exhorbiant prices for crappy service.
Back on topic: WP7 will get ported first, but it won't be a full port. Android is coming, but it has a guaranteed 1 year wait and another 6 months for the bugs to be worked out.
Personally, I can't wait for Android. I ran it on my Kaiser, then my TouchPro2. It wasn't a full-time OS for me, but the app store was too juicy to pass up
