Legend on Vodafone and Vodafone 360 - Legend General

Hello all
I'm looking to get a Legend on Vodafone but can see that you get Vodafone 360 pre-installed. I was wondering if this interfere's with the phone and / or apps or whether you can basically ignore or uninstall it to get a "pure" android experience.
Cheers
K

Well, I myself just got the Legend on Vodafone and can safely say... no, the Vodafone interference is minimal, like... 2 widgets installed on the default scene. But HTC have provided their own scene which is identical, but removes those 2 widgets.
I basically just ignore the 360 stuff.

Probably a stupid question, but isnt it possible to just flash a official htc rom to the legend to remove all the vodafone stuff? Or doesnt it work this way with android? (still on WM)
I will also be getting a Legend from Vodafone and I defenitly do not want all the extra crap providers put in.
Btw, can you remove those 2 widgets from vodafone?

Cheers dlau77, I went ahead and bought one and, as you say, you select the HTC Scene and you've got a pretty Vanilla Android phone. Perfect.

Rogers htc dream question

Herro..
I got the dream a 3 days ago, I like it alot..but after doing lots of searching my main question i cant find an exact answer for...
has the dream been rooted? If so is their a tutorial? I can only find outdated threads..
Secondly. which phone is better? I bought it as a spur of the moment thing, the guy at rogers saying both were the same..then I found out the dream is a older model, a t1..
I am still within 30 days, shouldi switch it for the magic? Does the magic have any major advantages over the dream?
Ty in advance
D
There are literally hundreds of threads in the Dream forum, the one above this one, with everything you'd ever want to know about the Dream aka G1.
The Magic is new to the market from April 09 in Germany followed by Spain, UK, Italy, France etc and now Canada. You should really check out both devices and decide for yourself. Personally I prefer the Magic and it looks better.
Best thing to do is go to Rogers and play with the Magic. I didn't even play with the Dream because I absolutely did not want a huge phone in my pocket. The magic is a nice size overall with the same screen as the Dream, only realy difference is the physical keyboard. It really is personal preference. I believe the Magic actually has more internal memory, 512MB vs. 192MB? Other than that no difference between the phones. As for rooting the Rogers Magic I know they have no figured that out yet, the Dream not sure about.

HTC Sense UI

Hi there everyone!!!
This is my first post.
I've the htc topaz ,have just bought it a few days ago , so far very nice phone , but the battery sucks.
I was wondering if there will be a port for HTC Sense UI or Android Hero for this phone. Does anyone knows if using Android on it , would it consume less battery ?
I've bought this phone with the intentions to install Android on it.
If you want to run Android buy a Android phone duuude!
Also it will only make the battery worse, more juice will be needed.
Yeooooooooooo
... welll unfortunately where I live there ins't any android phones available. I live in Finland a place dominate by Nokia . It's very hard to get anything else than LG, Sony Ericsson or Samsung . Other models a extremely expensive ,if you can find other models.
They are available.
I know a lot of scandinavians buy stuff from over the border, and the non vodafone branded Magic is on sale in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. I don't doubt for one second that it is on sale in Finland as well.
But peter chou has hinted that it might make it's way onto existing devices and also in some form onto windows mobile.
You never know, this might be in the next update for the topaz....I doubt it, but you never know!
Android SUCKS!!!
Hi all,
last friday I bought a D2 after 2 weeks with an HTC Dream with Android.
I don't like Android at all.
You have to buy separately Office, PDF and no navigator available (ANDNAV is not an option).
And the battery lasted only one day.
All the things that are working with WM6 are a trouble with Android, and as I use it for work, I don't mind about themes, wallpapers and nonesenses.
Do yourself a favor and don't look for Android. I even would prefer an iphone instead.
Thanks all.
well I would like to see the new Manilla, i'm sick of the current version...

..there is already a rom with manila 2.5!
Yup, Tom Codon has cooked a ROM with WM6.5 and Manila 2.5 - only "beta" though and has lots of bugs as yet - if you want it, you can get it from the rom section

Wait for european version,..or?

I can get my Nexus One next week,.. which i am seriously considering..
My only concern with US version is the lack of multitouch in default browser, maps, picture gallery..
With european (vodafone) version,.. i would like to ask, what do you think, chances are it will be branded?
I've had HTC Magic before and i've rooted it and installed roms,.. but i don't like doing that very much I thought with nexus one, i won't have to
What would you suggest? Sorry for noob questions

Exactly the same position... But i've brought mine
Chances are that the UK version will be branded and locked to Vodafone are quite high.
As for multitouch, I expect it to appear in roms once the SDK is released. But I can live without it at the moment

Sorry to hijack the thread, but if you root the device, do you loose text messages etc?
I think you should get the US version and root, multitouch will be added soon through ROMs.
And Brent when you unlock the boot loader for the first time you lose everything.
lol who cares about loosing text messages, European version unless it has some hardware differences (e.g. 32a and 32b with htc magic) then couldn't care less - multitouch doesn't worry me at all since I already have it on my magic and it's not that big of a deal if i have it or not the novelty doesn't wow for long and its real uses don't extend much beyond browser photos (maps would be nice). Also Google tends to be more loyal to its American base so I'd expect more long term support such as an upgrade deal when the nexus two comes out or something

If the European version is completely compatible with the American ROMs, I'ld get the European version.
@t4tav: how do you like it so far? And what did you have prior nexus one?

I don't think it will be branded or locked as this model is not what google are going for. Even the phone sold on US T-Mobile contract are unlocked.

I thought the Sim free version is a 'world phone' (well in the place it works)
It's not American or European or Chinese or whatever, but a universal stock ROM?
Or if it isn't - what things on the phone will make it a US rom and how different will it be?
Usually when an operator takes it - they'll flash their softwar eovertop to brand it - so Vodafone may put in their Vodafone 260 shortcuts etc ....but usually they don't customise them a whole lot.
The Nexus One is being sold completely SIM unlocked on any carrier (would assume there will be no branding also), this is one of the big things about the Nexus One, it's being sold by Google directly and not the carriers. Watch the Engadget interview with Eric Tseng, give a great deal of incite into where Google are going.
http://www.engadget.com/video/page/3#player
There is never a branding on any N1,many sources say this.
The hardware of the EU and US Nexus are the same, so you can swwitch ROMs in between.
Multitouch will come to the US Version too, not by google but by the nice guys from cyanogen and modaco or someone else in this forum. In multitouch sensitive apps there are allready working Programs in the Market (Dolphin Browser,...)
I was watching that endadget interview and i like google's move..
It's just i'm still sceptical about vodafone, that's all
And there is also one huge factor called patience If i can install european rom later, why would i wait for european release?
Hope to see some more reviews of you european users.. I still have a few days to make up my mind.
If you want multi-touch in the browser then get the dolphin browser it has multi-touch
Should be interesting because I think that Vodafone UK dont lock their phones, or at least the 5 or 10 that ive had over the past 18months havent been locked.
The iPhone on Voda UK is probably locked down though. :S

Well, i guess since this news came out..:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/11/android-2-1-sdk-now-available-nexus-one-says-geez-finally/
..it shouldn't be too long, before we see some more "good stuff" coming to nexus one?

Anybody know what the point of devicewire.co.uk's purpose is in asking for interest in the N1 from UK customers?
http://www.devicewire.co.uk/google-nexus-one
If the EU phones will be the exact same version as the US one then why not just buy it from google? And, doesn't this go against google's distribution policy?

My first android mobile

I aiming to buy a second hand G1 as my first android mobile. Was aiming to buy desire, but I use music a lot so waiting for a android walkman from sony erisson . I have a few doubts for my first android mobile,
(1) can the G1 stay in battery for at least 2 days(I don't use 3G, i only use 2 g networks) ?
(2) what is rooting can it reverted back ?
(3) When a android releases a update can I install it right away or should i use a specific one ?
Am using sony ericsson w960i. now cant find good android phone to upgrade
Thanks
1- its possible, but you would have to keep it at min. brightness etc. The simplest fix is an extended battery, it makes the phone a little heavier but can double or triple battery life.
2- Rooting is access to superuser commands etc. When you are rooted, you can install faster, cooler, better firmwares, or themes, and you can also tether etc. It takes no more then 30 minutes to root, and you can unroot with just one file (rc29). If you do decide to root, go with CM's stable releases, or try a hero rom.
3- You have to install one that is compatible with the G1. for example, android 2.2 froyo was released today but it cannot be installed on your G1 just yet. But that's not something you should worry about, since we have some of the best developers working for us.
And how much are you paying for your G1? check your local craigslist, prices range there from 70-150 for a used one.
Thanks for the fast reply..
and another question.. all the applications will be available in the market for G1 ?
for example if G1 has 2.1 and desire has 2.1 will both have same apps in its market list ?
by the way am in UK so will be buying it here.. In ebay i have seen for 70 to 150 pounds. the price is good ? or its too much ?
Yes, all apps for 2.1 will appear on a 2.1 rom. But G1 won't get 2.1 unless you root first. And 70 to 150 pounds seems like a fir price, just make sure you get a working one.
Hi guys, im thinking one G1 too and leaving forever WM and my Kaiser.
Here im Portugal even in second hand there are a litle bit expansive, as all the HTC are... The cheapest G1 e found is from 130€!
I friend of mine have an Acer with android SO with 1000mhz cpu... First i love HTC, i had 6 models and the possibility of change rom and stuff are brutal. He said that G1 is totally discontinued, and i am afraid that when i update it to the lastest rom available it comes slow :S But ok, it will be always better than an Acer, even not talking about the qwerty keyboard.
The battery of my Kaiser with normal use of GSM, rarely WIFI and some times GPS longs 2 days, i hope G1 too, that's the aceptable for me.
Im accustomed to rom change on WM i hope on android thing thats not hard!
G1 thats not beautiful and thats not ugly, its different, but ok, all the HTC are. Its bigger than Kaiser but smaller than my lovely HTC Universal, maybe the best phone i ever had!
I believe in XDA-Devs forum, i have been using it for 3 years, used more than 50 different roms, i will read all of your possibile and updated reviews with actual roms, because if it would be positive, my thread home will change.
Have you tried out an android rom on your kaiser? You will have a hard time getting more then a day of battery on your G1. I use it a lot, from 7:00 to 3:00 I still have 40% left, but that's with using it for a few hours and some music, in a place with low signal, and no gps or wifi. And a lot of the roms for the G1 are a helluvalot faster then stock, FYI.

No i have not tried that on Kaiser... The border of the lcd makes the touch experience hard, the new htc and the androids are made for finger touch and no stylus, i wanna try that and much more. Im a little bit afraid of the change to a new device, android for example. Im used to wm, my sweet tomtom gps very very powerful, very efficient here in portugal and if g1 suck im screwed. i have th think about it, i think it will be nice some reviews, because all i found in the web was reviews from 2 years ago, and thats nothing, because of the evolution of the roms. its hard to update for a new rom? this week, i will abandon windows and start using linux full time, for WM thats complicated, for android too?
Just found a Hero for 150 pounds , is it worth it or not ?
Thanks
I need/love/... qwerty keyboard... And think, how many people in your workplace/university/city have a G1? Damn exclusive design Im really think on it.

G1 is a good phone to cut your teeth on. I bought one just to try it out before my Upgrade is due and I pick up a desire.
Mine will be hitting ebay soon with an asking price of £95 with delivery ontop.
Oh why? You dont like yours? My Kaiser is not fast, small or pretty, my previous phones too, so...
I also bought a g1 as my first android phone, in fact I still have it and love it, I can't speak to the change in diffaculty in switching roms on a winmo phone but once you do it the first time on android it becomes an addiction

Of course... The first time i flashed my qtek s100 was insane! In three days i broke it and a had to pay to solve it
But thats a piece of work the root thing, and the first flash to boot up SO 2.2 or something? A friend like i said told me that G1 is overpassed, but i believe on it, G1 is a crazy thing for me, thats the revolution, the first, the incredible
Folks, a G1 appeard in the bidding world here in Portugal but with AZERT keyboard! Its cheapest, its half than a qwerty one... What do you think? Maybe i buy later a qwerty keyboard, i dont know, i want a damn G1, please give me ur opinion.

Thinking of getting WP7

Hi, mate.
If you want customizable, buy an android. But if you want some phone that you could not change anything to, buy a trophy. except the main screen, where you can change the big icons in any order you want, the rest stays where it is. nothing can be changed ...... but there's one thing great about this win 7: everything is where it should be and it's very easy to use. Yes, to turn on or off wifi i have to press 5 times, for instance. But if you play with it for 1 or 2 days you'll see that it's a very easy device to play with .... everything is one click away .
I have a desire (wife using it for the moment) and i'm not sure i'll get back on desire after had this trophy for a week.
Good luck.
G.
I have both devices. HTC Trophy's performance it better than a WP7 rom flashed on an HD2. I like both devices but the Trophy is my #1!
My wife uses the HD2 now...also with a WP7 rom flashed on it (She likes the simplicity and metro-ui with live-tiles)
If you get a trophy make sure it's developer unlocked before upgrading to NODO via Zune. That way it is still unlocked with NODO installed and you can sideload apps.
