Synchronization - XPERIA X10 General

Hi guys! Just got my X10 yesterday and been trying to figure out what software to use to synchronize my X10 with my PC (i have Windows 7 64 bit). I have downloaded and installed SE PC Suite but no joy there, it could not recognize my phone. I would like to synchronize contacts from Outlook on my PC to my phone and will appreciate it if any one could help. Thanks!

With or without the cloud? Are you wishing to continue using outlook or just trying to move your contacts over?

Try to get your contacts uploaded over to gmail instead.

Use google to sync....

what kind of phone do you have? other than x10?
the google server that you use is:
m.google.com
username
password
etc.

I can't sync my X10 with pc suite either.

Got it now. The Synch software is in the supplied SD Card and it's what i used to install the PC software. Now using Sony Ericsson Sync and Google as well. Thanks to all those who responded!

Does the Gmail sync maintain categories? I know some people who have tried to sync their Outlook with Gmail and lost the categorisation.

Cloud computing = FAIL. Either store everything on your PC/phone or enjoy losing your data.

I can still don't connect to my X10 from SE PC Suite.
any one got idea?
I'm run win7 64. I can connect SE Media Go and see it in the Explore

X10 uses Sony Ericsson PC Companion, which is bundled on the SD card. PC Suite is only for old devices i think

Ok. Sad PC Companion can't read SMS

Ok, I'm borrowing this thread a bit...
Can someone tell me how to sync X10 from Outlook?
Is there a way to sync X10 with Gmail? And sync Gmail and Outlook automatically?
I would like to have same contacts/calendar in X10/Gmail/Outlook. If I change or add data in one of them, all the others will sync automatically.
It doesn't matter if it is a program that cost money.
In settings for my X10, I can only choose "Sync with Gmail". Google Sync and SE sync are disabled and can't be chosen. What is wrong?
I also want pictures in contact to be synced as well.

Perhaps this can be of interest?
Google Apps Outlook sync.

I struggled for a long time with the same thing. In fact you need to tap the line ABOVE Google Sync (should be called "select sync program" or similar). Then you get to choose SE sync or Google sync.
SE sync synchronises profile pictures. I like the SE sync website. I didn't bother testing Google sync yet.

need some advice here.
for some weird reasons, the install file that comes with my X10 cannot be installed on my Vista laptop, but worked perfectly on my XP laptop.
Is there something that I shld do to make it install on Vista?
thanks

Don't know if it will help you since I sync with my Mac and iCal... but the way I did it was to make both my mac and the phone to sync to google.
To get my diffent calenders, "work" and "personal" not to merge in google calender i first exported then as a cal-file (I think you can do this in outlook as well) and then made new calenders in google calender and imported each of them to a "work" and "personal" calender in google.
Then I set up the phone to sync to google and got all my calender-stuff.
Now I went to iCal.. disabled the calenders i had exported earlier and went to settings/account (I hope the names is somewhat like this.. I have a swedish computer...)
There I set up a CalDAV-account with all my google-account information. Under "Delegation" i then selected the "work" and "personal"-calender.
Now I got the two calender back, all synced from google calender and up to date with the phone.
The adress book had a setting to sync with Google under settings/account as well.. worked right away. Except I had tried to use some other sync-program before, and that made my computer think that the contacts that was already synced with google was new.. so I got a lot of doubles. I had taken a backup before, so I deleted all contacts and restored it, and synced again.
Now my adress book and my calender is up to date on my computer, on the web and in my phone all the time.

I installed the Google Calendar sync application on my work laptop and my home machine which both run Outlook.
This application syncs a Google Mail Contacts and Calendar with the outlook accounts and vice-versa.
Sync your phone with your Google account and voila: Contacts and Calendar on two PCs, the web and my phone and all self-update.
Then use FBSync to link your phone contacts with your Facebook ones and let Timescape rip!
I am unable to sync mail as I work for a security company, but the supplied Moxier App syncs with Outlook.
Instead I simply hard coded my home email details into the Xperia's Email app, which also shoves it straight into Timescape.
if you do use Moxier, be warned that it seems to be a major factor in poor battery life.

[Q] Easy way to move personal data

Hey guys,
I know this isnt a Development related question, but i think a suitable answer to this question would be invaluable (i for one find myself installing all of the new builds as they come out). Is there an easy way to move things like calendar appointments and contacts from WinMo to Android?
Thanks

Use google's tools.
You can SYNC winmo contacts and calendar with Google's FREE online calendar...
then when you run Android, it will sync with the same data.
Also, when do use Google's online stuff, if you lose your phone, or you reinstall, all your contacts and calendar items resync with your new phone As long as you have a data connection (wifi or phone)
How can i get google sync to work in wm6.5? Here, in the activesync program, clicking the "set up your device to sync with it" link does nothing...

sorry, if this is not the right answer...
For WinMO - Use ActiveSync to Connect to your device, setup Sync Partnership, and it will sync from Outlook (emails, contacts, etc etc... depends on how much you choose)
For Android - the options are (depends on which accounts is selected to sync contacts)
1. Google Sync - It will sync your contacts from your gmail account
2. Corporate Account - if you are on exchange, this will sync all your contacts from Outlook.
these are 1 to 1 syncs.
-----------------
To do Outlook -> Gmail -> Android, I believe there are some software you can use... i read on google, but reviews are very subjective, and I have tried none, so wont be able to recommend.
For corporate use, I have heard CompanionLink and Touchdown to be good.

can you please post the link you are using ....
Sry I'm new so I can't post any links but searching "google sync" in google should return correct link in first result.
My suggestion - don't sync mail, it's buggy. Better use IMAP for gmail and sync only contacts / calendar.
If "set up your device..." link is dead (that was my case also) try searching ActiveSync menu for "server source" or something like that (my ROM is localized so I don't know how it's called in English version). When done proceed as in tutorial about google sync. My ROM is WM6.1 but 6.5 should work the same way.
YES I was able to fully sync contacts & calendar that way with my google account. Syncing works both ways and if you set it up correctly it will push any new or updated items almost instantly between account and a phone.

Android uses its own internal google sync to make sure your contacts and calendar etc are synced with Google's servers.... GOOD
Windows Mobile is ALSO supported by Google who are using Exchange server!!!...you can sync over the air with ActiveSync (m.google.com)... look on Google's support site or search for "Google ActiveSync"... note, Google only supports Contacs, Calendar and Mail sync (push), it does not support tasks or notes.
Works flawlessly for me, except for STUPID HTC messing with the 'notes' field in my contacts. This is a HTC bug, so beware.
So basically, IF you use Google for your contacts and Calendar, you can keep WinMo and Android in perfect sync

going from winmo 6.5 to android

Hey all, i'm going from my winmo 6.5 install on my Touch Pro to the android system on the Evo(i've never used android before. i'm very excited!) whats the best way to transfer contacts, sms, mms, bookmarks, favorites etc to the android from winmo? in the past i would just use sprite mobile backup in conjunction with windows MyPhone service to transfer to the new winmo phone.
how does it work between two different OSes?
thanks!!
I too am in the same situation. My wife just went from WinMO 6.5 to Android (got a Hero, decided she didn't need the evo) and she ended up manually putting her contacts into google. Seemed like a pain.
I searched around and there are some paid apps out there to sync outlook and google, but I am not going to be to only do it once (abandoning outlook after this). Theres a sync plugin for outlook that google made, but it seems like you might need an exchange server in order to use.
I think there is a way to export your contacts into .csv and then import into google but that doesnt sound too great either (although better than doing it manually lol).
Anyone know of a good app to sync contacts and calendar from outlook to google (at least just for one time)?
You can use activesync on your winmo phone to sync your contacts and calendar to your gmail account, then when you get the evo, use the same gmail account to sync it all with that
backup your contacts to your google account from winmo, google has an exchange server you can sync using. do it right on the phone, search the winmo forums for exactly how, i did it over 6 months ago when the hero came out so i dont remember.

You're right, that probably would have been a good way. Unfortunately my HTC FUZE has died and I am on an oldschool smartphone (Cingular 2125, HTC Faraday, many other names) and I don't know if it has exchange/google sync support in its activesync.
Any software-solution ideas?
I use exchange server to sync all my data. If you dont have access to a exchange server then sync with google then resync with google on your android phone.
I am in the same boat. Unfortunately I dont want to merge gmail info with my phone. I was thinking about Sprite Migrate.... anyone use before?
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/migrate/how-does-it-work-
qu1nn
well, i can't get the google sync to work, so i'm going to give sprite a shot
sprite migrate looks interesting, is it free? All this research seems pretty time consuming, might just export to csv and manually input callendar lol.
would love just a simple sync from outlook to google... sigh...
Same here just made the switch from WM to Android (Sprint Hero) two weeks ago and couldn't be anymore happier. Android is fun, easy to learn and very customizable. Like all the above post, switching over contacts (not needed the other stuff) to gmail was super easy and save plenty of times. For me Android is here to stay and hopefully you too will learn to like it as much as I did. Good luck!!!

If you have access to Exchange use that, if not use Gmail. Those are the methods I have used for other folks and it works fine.

Well, its part of activesync.
Go to activesync on your phone, menu, add server source
server addy is m.google.com (and requires ssl)
username put FULL email addy (i.e. [email protected], you need the @gmail (or your server, some are googlemail, etc).com part)
then pick what you want to sync
you should be ok, the only thing I am worried about is if it replaces your phone contacts with its own or merges the 2, I might find out soon though... would just like someone to confirm with me
i tried that and it would start to sync then give me an error saying "the exchange server is not properly configured" and wouldn't go anywhere from there
When you are on the last activesync screen where you select what to sync, (contacts, calender, e-mail, tasks), Select Menu at bottom right. Select Advanced. In the top drop down select "Keep the item on my device". I just synced to my gmail contacts, which was empty, and it worked fine. I did have to try it several times to get it to work but now that its set up it works well.

Setup a Funambol account at http://my.funambol.com
Download the Funambol CAB install file to your Windows Mobile device (that is actually running Windows Mobile. You can get the CAB file by going to the email tab in your Funambol portal and selecting download)
Install Funambol (onto Window's Mobile)
Sync your contacts with the Funambol server by launching Funambol and entering your Funambol portal account information
Download the Funambol Android application (from Funambol Forge)
Put the .apk file on your SD card in the /Storage Card/AndroidApps folder. If this folder doesn't exist, create it.
Boot into Android by running Android from your program menu or by manually running haret.exe
Once in Android, bring up the Application menu.
Open the Funambol application.
Press the menu key and tap on Settings.
Enter your Funambol portal information.
Click Sync contacts and let it sync your contacts.

How to sync contact and calendar to outlook?

Just got my phone! Looked through the user guide and didn't see anything that tells me how to bring my outlook contact and calendar to the phone.
I do not want anything to go to the cloud, and I don't use exchange. I just want a simple window XP outlook to Samsung Galaxy S sync.
I came across a program called the Missing Sync but it cost $50 adding 10% to the phone cost!!! Something so basic should come working out of the box to be honest without further cost.
Is there any free program that you guys have tried and found working?
Install the Samsung Kies application, should do the trick.
On my side I have an exzchange server and I wanted also to sync the calendar
And it didn't work with the native exhcange sync with the calendar app
So I used the google calendar sync software to sync the outlook calendar with the google calendar
Then you can use the native sync between the phone and google calendar which works fine
Having exchange or not shoud not change anything
Isn't google calendar usage means surrendering my private data to the cloud?
What about contact information?

Not sure what you mean by the cloud but I guess the answer is yes
I must confess that strangely the contacts are well sync with the exchange server so I did'nt check other solutions ...
I thought the meaning of cloud is clear, but if the answer is yes then I'm not prepared to let Google have my personal information.

Have already tried the following:
1) Android-Sync - does not work.
2) CompanionLink USB - does not work
3) Sync2 - does not work
This is very frustrating. I still can't bring in my contact and calendar from my iPhone to Android.
Anybody knows how that can be done? (No Cloud please). I cannot believe that after 3 years, Android is still so raw with missing basic functionalities like this without having to pay USD$50 for missing sync (assuming that it even works)
I've sync'd my outlook contacts\calendar through the Kies software. You should be able to connect your phone to Kies then click on the phone icon to show the options for sync of calendar and contacts.
Have to admit it's pretty rubbish functionality compared to the HTC sync app and activesync. Can't get it to auto sync when the phone is connected it's a manual job every time.

Looks like Android fails miserably in this area. Noway I will let Google force me to surrender my private information to them in the cloud.
Looking more and more like the only way is to manually rekey all the entries? Or perhaps I would go back to iPhone 4 after all.

You have been told in like 4 posts here that you can use Kies to get your Outlook contacts and calendar. Kies is the official Samsung software for using the phone to connect to the computer.
So what is the problem?
It is not a geat piece of software, but it will do the trick for you.
Have you tried this? -> http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/
After long researching, only free method to sync contacts and calendar (and I do this) is to get gmail account. Export contacts and calendar in csv form ro PC and import it in gmail account. Till I find another free solution how to sync it, I'm using this method each day I leave my office. It takes not more than one minute. I know it is not confortable (been used to WM syncing), but it is only free way so far...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I've finally got it done with Samsung Kies. Wasn't smooth sailing at all. Had to remove the contact group before I managed to bring every contact over. I still can't bring the calendar ovef yet. During sync, the progress bar isn't moving. I had similar problem with contact but later it mysteriously completed successfully without me doing anything different.
Manage to bring the music and videos overs with only some if the album artwork. Playlist did not sync over for some strange reasons.

How Do I Sync Outlook and Vibrant?

Hi, all.
The manual for Vibrant, beginning on Page 120, talks about using Samsung Kies to sync files between the PC and Vibrant. I downloaded Kies version 1.5.1.10071_32 through samsungapps.com. Installed no problem on my 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate OS. I've got 32-bit Outlook 2010 installed.
I enabled the USB connection through Kies on my phone. Drivers installed no problem when the phone was connected through USB.
First time using Kies, contacts sync'd up just fine. Calendar, not so much. Nothing sync'd.
Subsequent attempts to connect the phone sometimes hangs Kies. When the connection is successful, and I attempt to sync, my entire calendar will be imported into Kies, but only a few of the appointments get into the phone. Sometimes no appointments get into the phone. There's no rhyme or reason to what makes it, what doesn't, and it varies from attempt to attempt.
I live and die by Outlook, and trying to make the move to Gmail won't work for me.
Let me add something here. I don't like clouds. Clouds conjure up visions of rain, darkness, thunder and lightning, wind, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. Scary stuff. That's why I'm not too big on using Gmail to sync the phone. It also doesn't work real well when the rest of the business world relies on Outlook. For the time being, I've exported my contacts and calendar to CSV DOS files, then uploaded them to Gmail. This is what I have to do everytime I want to update my phone, and it's a pain in the butt.
Even though my US Vibrant manual says to use Kies to sync the phone, the Samsung Apps website makes no indication of any support for US phones, and says my country is not supported by the site. Of the phones listed for other countries (including Canada and the United Kingdom), the Galaxy S is not listed.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any third party apps that work well?
Thanks in advance for all comments and suggestions.
I am assuming you're using Outlook without an Exchange server? This phone syncs just fine if you have an Exchange server.

Right. No Exchange server.
One other thing.
The initial contacts sync works great, subsequent contacts sync hangs at 35%, forced close, then a re-sync destroys the contact list.
I have the same problem. Coming from an Iphone this is the only downside I found with Android.
My Iphone was able to sync outlook (contacts, calendar and notes) + my internet favorites.
Now I use
- KIES for sync my contacts
- google sync to sync my calendar
I didn't found a way to sync my notes or my IE favorites
Still searching
Otherwise there is some third party soft like CompanionLink but they cost $$
Another option for you if you use GMail as your mail provider (via Outlook) is to use Google Calendar Sync. It will sync your Outlook Calendar with your GMail Calendar, which would then automatically Sync with your Android device. That's how I've been doing it since I've had my G1 and it's worked great...no need to plug in and sync anything.

I've been doing the same thing for over a year via OutLook. I just set it up at work as a Scheduled Task and it runs 30minutes before I go home. Keeps the IT guys off my back if they happen to look at my Task Bar and see thing odd running.
TouchDown
I am testing out a trial version of Exchange TouchDown by NitroDesk.
I am not able to post the link but you can google it.
It syncs email, contact, calendar and tasks via USB for stand alone Outlook as well as OTA sync to your Exchange mailbox. Give it a try and let us know how it worked out for you.
I have a different issue... Outlook 2003. I start out with all contacts LAST NAME, FIRST NAME. I sync and all of my contacts last and first names are now transposed in my PC. Now they show FIRST NAME, LAST NAME. It isn't just a function of 'sorting' for when I click on a contact on my PC, the contact's first and last names have actually swapped.
Anybody else experiencing this or have any suggestions? I really like this phone but the absolute lack of being able to update contacts via USB sync (do not like the cloud idea AT all either) is making me think about returning it. Thanks!

Outlook Calendar & Contacts Sync now available using PC Companion

Just noticed the latest version of PC Companion (updated today) includes 'Sync Zone' which allows you to sync your phone Calendar and Contacts with Outlook 'via Google'.
Haven't tried it, cos I got this set up ages ago using gSyncit, but, obviously, Sync Zone is free so good news for anyone who wants to do this but hasn't worked out how to yet.
i don't have it on mine
version 2.01.110
I Don't know how is it going to clash if you are using Moxier to sync with Exchange (which I'm doing ATM)
Anyone knows about this, please share.
Thanks.
mine showed up finally. works good, some of my merged contacts come into outlook wrong.
I have the update also and I am using it now to sync the contacts between my Google and Outlook now, I use companionlink software to sync previously.
I tried this, and it seems to work well enought. Only problem is it doesn't let you select what Outlook profile you want to sync. In my case, I have two Outlook profiles setups (one for me, and one for my wife). When I tried to sync my wifes contacts onto her phone it grab my profile and merged my contacts with hers.
Anyone know how tell it to use another Outlook profile?

I assume you are using two profiles under the one Windows log on.
The best way is for your wife to logon as a different Windows user. In that way everything is kept separate. It makes life a lot simpler.
This is great news for me. Add the improvements with 2.1.A.0.435, including multitouch and video editing and SE is starting off the new year pretty well. Although, you wouldn't know it with all the whiners bashing SE here on xda.

I've tried and worked OK for me... callendar and contacts sincronized... the problem is, MS Outlook works very bad with Gmail IMAP account, and crash every time i try to move a mail from one folder to another.
So far, back to Mozilla Thunderbird for me.
For me, it keeps crashing everytime I run a sync

same...Unknown error
It has totally screwed up my contacts - added random e-mail addresses where they shouldn't be and deleted contacts it shouldn't have. I've used sync software for years, and I understand how it should work - be warned - it doesn't - if you want to try it, make a back-up of *both* address books first.
I click on SE Sync from PC Compaion
i look at Dashboard and only my bookmarks were synced
Everyone should be careful with their outlook sync. Google uses non-standard labels for contact fields. If you have custom labels for anything, it will not translate well to outlook. Same thing with their imap protocols.
Outlook sync with google using pc companion
is anyone else having this problem - when I generate an Outlook appointment, it synchs to Google Calendar fine, when when it re-syncs, it rolls back the time & date in Outlook Calendar ...... ??????????
