what to buy? B7610 or i8000 - Omnia II General

Should you pls help me which one of these great devices to buy? I cant still decide. HW keyboard doesnt matter so much... I would prefere i8000 but I like B7610 interface.

I got a B7610, because for me the keyboard is the dealbreaker.
Aside of that i never got my hands on a omnia II but i can see that the best things for it are the huge 4.7 screen (i think is 4.7) and the weight compared to B7610...
B7610 has a good today screen but it was already been ported to I8000

really? I couldnt find it here?! I would be great to have b7610 screen on i8000!

If you're planning to run custom roms the i8000 has many more alternatives and a larger user base. The screen is also larger. The premier reason to get the B7610 would be the keyboard.

Samsung Pixon... A successor to Omnia?

A new Samsung mobile has been unveiled. The Samsung M8800 Pixon.
Pretty neat, and definitely a successor to Omnia (same widget today screen, so definitely a WinMo device)
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2008/09/29/samsung-m8800-pixon-press-photos-aamp-sp
The problems with this one? For such a beatiful screen, a very low resolution. And also only upto 8 GB Micro SD supported with only 200 MB internal memory.
What do you think?
doesnt look like a winmo device.
but its still VERY nice
i love the 8 megapixel camera.
you see what you get when a universal electronics company decides that they make phones and cameras but why not have them all togther in one?

I am 99.9% positive it'll be a WinMo device... (especially in regards to the dashboard interface they introduced in Omnia)
ithink it isn;t WinMo, because:
1. It don't show start bar like omnia (Today screen totally different from omnia) i can say that because my father use omnia.
2. Samsung usualy give their product code with ixxx for their WinMo line up.
So i guess is not WinMo

I hope you're right, if it has Android I'm buying it once it supports US 3G frequencies. Case closed, that will be my new phone.
Note to mods: This shouldn't be here, if you can move to General that'd be great.

But the Omnia also has a widget-based homescreen, and that does have WM. I'd say it's more likely to have WM considering it seems to be an Omnia clone. If it doesn't have WM, I think it'd be like the Tocco and have its own operating conditions... Not using Android.

it has windows mobile:

not every widget based home screen from samsung is WinMo, even the widget first appereance is not on WinMo device.
And they still sell thier omnia as first line.
And see slowly on home screen it's totally different with omnia.

X1 vs Touch HD

I'm nearly at the end of my contract for my T-mobile vario II. It looks like my next phone will either be the X1 or the touch HD. I read a lot of ebooks and web pages so the bigger screen is going to be great.
I like the fact that the X1 has a slide out keyboard and dpad. These should help when writing emails or playing games. However the simpler package of the Touch HD does look very nice.
One thing that sucked about the vario II was the sluggish interface - from the few videos I have watched the HD seems a bit slicker than the X1 - am I right?
If possible I would like to install android on my next device - is this more likely to be possible on the HD?
So what are your views - which is better?
Mercedes or BMW.
Two similar but quite different animals.
Need the keyboard... X1
Need no keyboard .. T' HD
It's simply a choice only. Some point or other.. a HardSPL and cooking of roms will be well underway.. along with a vast choice of rom shape and size, along with inbuilts. The only thing that will not change is the Hardware shape. (guts are the same)
The Touch HD is not even out properly, and the HD manilla is already available and installable on the X1. the Sony panels will no doubt hit the Touch HD.
I have bought 2 X1's..along with an Omnia... Will get a HD also.. but this is because i'm a picky sod.. and have money to pee away.
Please don't tell my wife!.
Well the Touch HD is technically using HTC's "2nd" version of TouchFlo3D, after Diamond/TPro, so understandably they've put some effort into getting it to run more smoothly. SE's panels will debut on the X1 so it's probably buggy just like TouchFlo3D was when the Diamond first came out.
That said, XDA got even the stock Diamond interface running really well, so there's no reason they can't do it with the X1's panels. It's not a question of if but when.
I think if you're going to reading most of the time, the HD will be the better choice (bigger screen, and you dont "need" a hardware keyboard to read). But I must say if you do a fair amount of messaging, a real keyboard is second to none -- there's just no going back after you've used one (imo).
As for Android, only time will tell. My guess is yes for both, but it might not be fully functional for some time. There are just too many unknowns right now for there to be an easy answer.

If you are so flush with cash feel free to mail me one of the X1's!
fhseih - I do read a lot and the physical size of the screen on the touch hd would be very nice for that. However the actual resolution of the X1 is the same so it should be almost as good in that respect. As you say, once you get used to the keyboard you never go back. I have got used to having a keyboard on my vario II. I love the way that you can type without wasting screen space on a virtual keyboard.
Maybe what I really want is a Touch HD Pro - any rumors that we will see one of these soon?

Even though i have capital... and enough to buy a handset i want when i want it on the network i choose to be with.. i am certainly no charity.. so i'm sorry.. if the second x1 goes anywhere its back to supplier... and get a HD instead.
I think getting a Touch HD pro is pointless.. HD is such because its not bulky. Its slim and basically a screen with a send and end key.
Adding a keyboard to it = not a Touch HD Pro but a X1.
Lack of G-sensor on X1 is the thing i think when it comes to using different roms and software. Hardware apart from this and keyb is the same. (except screen size...res is the same)
I think... i will keep one x1 and get a HD...
that way.. i'm covered.
Really wish the DX900 Glofiish had been released... 2 sim cards... one phone with VGA/GPS/WIFI/Bluetooth/3G/HSDPA .. but as yet.. its just due... due .. and due....
who could want more?

Excuse me.....My TyTN II (Kaiser) is hardly obsolete!!! My wife has the X1 and I wouldn't swop if I was paid!!! I don't think you have ever used a Kaiser otherwise you wouldn't have made such a comment. I have had mine for over a year now and it's the best device I have ever had. My other ppc is an iMate K-Jam (Wizard).
I find that the X1 is not all that it's made out to be after having tested it quite extensively. Firstly, the keybord slides out too easily, the Kaiser's is more solid. The screen on the X1 is far too small for a WVGA device. I can hadly read what's displayed most of the time even with my reading glasses.
Yes, the X1 is a beautiful looking device and it's great all-round, but, sir, it is not king of the heap. That honour goes to the HTC Touch HD (Blackstone), as judged by certain smartphone mags.
I know we all love our devices, but one should be careful about making false comments about other devices.
To be honest the best phone can be different for alot of people. It's just what features that matter to you.
For me a 3,5 mm jack and hardware keyboard are important thats why I chose the xperia.
For other people this isnt that important and they will go for another one.

I agree. For me, a touchscreen only device is not desirable as I prefer to use a hardware keyboard. I also don't like cleaning a screen all the time either, due to fingerprints and smudge marks from excessive touchscreen usage. I love my X1 and find cleaning the screen, with a protector on, is greatly reduced due to the hardware keys below the screen and the slide-out keyboard.
There are so many touchscreen only devices currently available that are huge sellers and a lot of people enjoy a touchscreen only interface. As they say, different strokes for different folks.

You should vote for the kaiser if you think it is the "best HTC device ever", because as I said before, I respect your oppinion and this is nothing but a simple poll. Everybody has his own personal preferences of course.
BUT I WANT THE XPERIA FORUM TO BE AWARE ABOUT THE POLL !!!
You're right: I've used the Kaiser, tytn, jam, diamond... name it.
And again you're right: it's a very personal matter of styles and needs
XPERIA HAS NOW BEATEN THE UNIVERSAL FOR THE 5TH PLACE !!!
LETS GOOOO FOR THE RAPHAEL AND TOUCH HD !!!

XPERIA has beaten DIAMOND for the fourth place !!!
C'mon guys lets vote for the BEST HTC DEVICE EVER !!
"best" is pretty subjective.
Never liked my first
I loved the form factor of the Universal, but the screen always felt too small, and the device was underpowered.
the athena has an amazing screen, the form factor left a bit to be desired, and again needed some pepping up.
The x1 has by far the best performance, but I'm underwhelmed by the form factor.
So who do I vote for?

Man i've voted for X1i and I was that close to creating another account on just to vote again...but integrity kicked in! haha
i hate to say but iPhone's hardware functions are world apart.
the touch response, the multi touch and the accelerometer.
i really crave these things in all touchscreen phones.
if WM 6.1 phones can have multi touch and response of iPhone..it ll be the ultimate thing.
voted the X1 is at the bottom of the list
oh men, x1 passed the touch pro, it's so fast:d very impressive
I voted, but actually I don't have had another HTC device so it's more of a subjective vote, but I don't think anyone has had all the phones and well I think it's the best looking phone on pictures I thought mmm seems cool but when you really have it in your hands and see this screen where you can't count the pixels because you really don't see any pixels as it's all so smooth of high quality you know you just love this phone

Happy with Xperia X1?

Is there anybody who bought Xperia to replace Universal?
I'd like to hear your experience, I'm seriously considering in buying X1 sooner or later..
but I'm particularly worried about its keyboard.
1) Is keyboard good enough for touch-typing? not thumb-keyboarding?
2) can you type as fast as when you were typing with universal?
Any other perspective from uni users will be appreiciated.
1) i'm using the keyboard most, but for shorter messages the on screen keyboard is fine. but hardware keyboard is always faster in my opinion
2) i can type faster with a keyboard then universal. used to a touch pro. but now i have and X1 and can't say more then its just better and faster!
overall i just like the X1
I think there is no better keyboard than the Uni one!, at least from all devices in the market today
Check the upcoming HTC Rhodium, this can be the real Uni succesor, but Xperia.... I don´t think so
Good luck,

Couldn't agree more (except on the HTC Rhrodium, saw 0 images of it with Google). The Raphael/X1 could be argued as successors to the Kaiser, however I just can't see the same for the Universal. I thought the Omni was going to be the successor but then they never came out with that :S.

Yep, it was very expected the Omnia, shame...
Here a pic of HTC Rhodium, and think it´s an interesting option
Cheers,
Hmm, I can touch-type on Uni, but i don't think I can with Kaiser and even Rhodium.. They are too focused for thumb-type usage.. they can't even adjust the angle of the screen.
How about Xperia?
I think maybe I can, considering its "mushy" feel and wide key pitch... plus its arc shape.

This isn't the new HD though, so maybe the HD is still going to be strong for a year(meaning no major updates to it, just internal hardware, like a US 3G antenna).
I dont think we will see an upgrade for the HD till later this year (if at all) but this in most peoples eyes will easily do for a HD with built in keyboard.

That new TPro is still sexy though , but they could have done with out the bezel and all the brushed aluminum(not saying that I don't like).
*sigh* it makes me confused to make a decision between Touch HD and Touch Pro2
Touch Pro2 contains lots of software impovements, espsecially a newer version TF3D,
however, the backplate which coloured in grey really... ugly ('cause I'm a grey-hater)
the Touch HD have a stylish design (in my opinion), but software are just out-dated
and there maybe not have any WM6.5 offical ROM provided, even an update of TF3D
Anyone can help me to make a choice?
My only concern is about the updating of software and any alternative colours of Touch Pro2

The Touch Pro 2 is just too heavy for me, the HD is bad enough...same old story, to keyboard or not to keyboard. The WhiteStone is supposed to be the replacement for the HD. Who knows when it will come. Personally I don't care to upgrade my HD because with these new devices come new roms, YES!

i fully believe that the new TouchFLO will be available to the HD thanks to XDA-DEVELOPERS
and i can't wait, it seems to have some nice additions and tweaks
o and WinMo 6.5 will definitely be available for the HD thanks to XDA-DEVELOPERS (not an official upgrade, but fully awesome)
not impressed
I'm not impressed, i have had three HTC Phones and all have been underpowered due lack of chipset drivers, I will be probably looking towards the omnia HD next, unless HTC decide to shell out the cash for licences for drivers. it winds me up no end that. made I was fooled yet again by HTC into buying one of their half finished handsets.
Its good more XVGA's are coming out as it means more supported apps. Maybe a google version might help us crack the RGB666 issue.
Hardware Keyboard
I sincerely beleive that the HD (aka beast, aka black stone) is currently the ultimate device. Most people who long for a hardware keyboard must have never used the TouchPal. I have done continuous testing and TouchPal allows me and most other people to type considerable faster. I DO RECCOMEND IT for anyone who has not tried it.
I love what I'm seeing with the new ROMs out there and I'm not worried at all that the brilliant minds of this community will bring it to the world best device. Heck, after WM 6.1 was ported to the BlueAngel than everything is possible here!
I love my HD and these new devices can't even hold a candle to it. 3.8 WVGA display, FM Radio, 5MP camera with Autofocus, GPS, front full 2nd VGA camera, 7 hardware buttons, magnetic stylus, expandable memeory via Micro SD (now up to 32GB) all in a form factor the same size as the iPhone! (who can beat that?!)
Only thing the HD's missing is US 3G support, and Video Out, and a capacitve touchscreen.
Damn I love my HD!!!!!

LOL yes many of us agree with you there!
I wonder if there's an exact launch date on this. I'm due for an upgrade soon.
Before getting the HD, I was a happy TyTN II user. Sure I wished for at least VGA and a larger screen but I was content (with the technology back then). But when the super sexy HD came out with WVGA and faster performance I was interested but the lack of keyboard held me back till I found out I could manipulate the screen to horizontal for any "serious typing" since the landscape keyboard was almost the same size in length as the physical keyboard. Now with FingerKeyboard (the black & red) I am completely satisfied. I gained light-weight and thin and able to type.
My next upgrade will be for windows 6.5 and the faster processor and video card!
I think my girlfriend will be pleased
I just pre-ordered the diamond2
expected delivery date: april 10th
I'm gonna be so lucky tonight

Degake
