[FROM HTC] No future updates to correct camera issues. - HD2 General

Hello guys,
I have contacted HTC asking them some questions, including the over contrasted pictures and whitebalance issues in the camera, oh and the pink tone as well. Here is their reply :
"Regarding the camera issue, kindly be informed that unfortunately there will not be any other updates for this issue but it is recommended that you follow the steps below to minimize the effect of this issue:
1. Under certain lighting conditions, especially indoors, the color of your picture may be tinted. In order to prevent this, try to ensure you have the flash enabled and enough ambient light to take pictures. To enable the flash, please press HOME, and then slide to Pictures and Video. In the top right of the screen press the Camera icon to launch the camera. Your phone will automatically rotate into landscape mode. Then press the lightning bolt to turn on the flash.
If your phone has less than 30% power remaining, your flash has been automatically disabled to prevent users from accidentally using their remaining battery life while using the camera. Please charge your phone to over 30% to re-enable the flash.
2. You may consider turning down the saturation on your camera. Turning the saturation down will remove the reddish tint from the center of the photograph.
To turn down saturation please press HOME, then slide to the Photos and Videos tab. Tap the Photo Icon > Menu Icon in the lower right corner > Gears Icon (settings) > Advanced Icon > then tap the right arrow 2 times to go to page 3. Then tap Image Properties > Saturation > then press the “-“(minus) icon to adjust saturation. "

I also asked about battery drainage, and they replied :
As for the Battery issue, kindly follow the steps below to check that the batter of your handset is working fine:
1. Charge the battery to 100%.
2. Start > Settings > System tab >Task Manager,Disable from running or uninstall any 3rd party applications
3. Start > Wireless controls, disable all connectivity (Data/Wi Fi/Bluetooth),
4. Start > Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > Advanced> Power mode , put Power save Mode to “Best battery”
5. Start > Settings > Power > Backlight, select Auto adjust backlight
6. Start > Settings > Power > Advanced, check Turn off backlight if device is not in use and choose the timeout as 10 seconds.
7. Start > Settings >Personal > Phone > Network, set network type to Auto
8. Let phone stay idle for 1 hour and check battery capacity.

Pink photose problem was solved with hotfix
What do you mean by white balance?
If your phone eat more then 4% in 10h (night) check if all apps which likes to synch auto over the web have sync option set to off.
With freds task manager you can check for apps wasting your battery.

The update did not fix the pink tone entirely, hence the HTC employee mentioning ways to minimize the issue

The hot fix did not work for me either, I think in fact it was better without applying it. Any way to reverse the hot fix?

Just remove it in add/remove programs.

Hahaha!!! ROFL!!! What a copout! That's the biggest load of pap I've ever heard. Basically, if you don't like the pink blotch in the middle of your pictures, take shots that look virtually black and white instead
Are they actually being serious with these responses?

My Leo is a Barbie Camera
This picture was taken with the supposed "Hot Fix" installed! I am a little embarrassing to send anybody these kind of pictures. I miss my SE X1 camera; and did not expect HTC to have the same quality as Sony's camera; but i do expect a usable camera.

Coud you please add the cab to this topic? I didn't find the task manager you were talking about.
Thanks in advance.

If I read the HTC email correctly, he's saying that there won't be any other fixes to address the "pink blob" issue - he's not completely ruling out any future fix for any camera issue (which is what the subject line of this thread suggests). I'll be deeply dissapointed if they never address the massive over-exposure on flash shots. (OP might like to write back and point out that using the flash is generally impossible because of the over-exposure problem, and that consequently HTC's advice sucks).

Speedbooster working well!

http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=speedbooster&tab=download
Just installed speedbooster v2 and I really like the application (under processes/add) speed up feature. I added new sms, new appointment and some common application I use often. The speed improvement is quite obvious.
I also have read that other users just adjusted all processes to high and have seen much faster speed on TP2 which I have yet to try.
Am observing the battery consumption but so far no significant deterioration after installation but still observing.
i concur, it has speeded up texting etc noticably when the right settings are tweaked.
Does this program just need to be run once or after every soft reset?
I have not noticed any major drop in bat life but will report back.
I noticed that a short cut shows up in "start-up". Believe it is restarted automatically after each reset.
By the way, there is a power saving selection that I have selected. After running it for almost a day, I have not noticed any significant drop of battery comparing to before the installation.

Can you share your settings you've tweaked? Thanks in advanced
yes a brief tutotial of what you guys did would be greatly appreciated
The setting I currently have... just to share.
1) Under processes: select highest for all. Select Refresh and select Monitor.
The best part here is the "Add" function which allows you to pick applications you want to add and speed up. Once you add, select highest speed as other processes. The improvement is really noticeable.
2) Memory: similiar to other clean Ram type of utilities. No setting required. Just hit Free.
3) Video speed: I select fastest and disable window animations.
4) Storage performance: Just select all to tick.
5) Tools: I only need battery hack (to last longer).
6) Benchmark & reset to default - as needed.
Hope this helps.

There is a "Default settings" selection to reset back your phone to original setting that you can try out. I don't have this problem... but perhaps you might want to speed up one process at a time to check which process cause your problem.

Cm7 Light Sensor Levels (Small simple guide)

Please go to Settings -> CyanogenMod Settings -> Display -> Automatic Backlight -> Edit Other Levels...
Below is a screenshot of the settings I'm using. This is much easier on the eyes during the night, as I found the stock settings to be too bright. This also improves battery life.
Play around with the other settings in the previous window like Sample Interval ( 1 second) and screen dim level (1).
Like I said this is what has worked best for me. If it is too dark simply increase the numbers as needed.
If this was helpful don't forget to hit the Thanks button! Cheers!

I like my screen about as dark as I can get it, before CM I used SuperDim to get my screen dark. I've had my screen dim level set to 6 ever since flashing CM, but never played with those setting cause I wasn't sure how to work them. I set mine exactly like yours. My question is do the "other levels" only kick in if you are using automatic brightness?

My atrix has the automatic settings selected, then I customized the light levels under CM7. Seems to work smooth as well. That's what bothers me the most with the SG2. Half the time when i turn the screen on its dark for about 10 seconds (and in direct sunlight you can't see anything on the screen) before the phone realizes the light settings and adjusts.
Just play around with the settings. Hold your finger over the light sensor and watch the numbers drop.
Which version of CM are you running? On the most recent stable build Ba2Tf (IIRC) the top two in the second editable column can't be changed from their defalt 24/48 values...?

You have to change the dim level to 1 before you can set those values that low.
I applied all the settings and my phone screen didnt changed a bit (i am already using lowest screen brightness from display settings) should i reboot or what ?
Edit: Rebooted and no change
Edit 2:Screen dim is working amazingly, all i want is to lower the actual screen brightness, that hurt my eyes when i wake up and start reading sms
Edit 3: just edit the settings and put ur phone to auto brightness, it should work. I was using my phone all the way lowest brightness 24-7 manualy.
P.s: thanks and thanks cm7.

Tutorial: Letv Le1s: Reducing battery consumption for non-rooted Le1s

Here are the few tips you could use to reduce the battery consumption for your device. I use it for my Le1s and it helps me, hence I'm sharing it with you.
1) Uncheck "Scanning always available" in WiFi settings.
2) Avoid live wallpapers
3) Use manual brightness feature and uncheck auto brightness
4) Dont need vibration, then switch vibration and hepatic feedback off.
5) Set screen timeout to 15 seconds and increase it if necessary.
6) Switch off the hardware features like WiFi, Bluetooth, gps if not needed
7) Use the battery assistant feature frequently, it helps a lot.
8) Dont use too much of ram consuming widgets
9) Switch off auto-sync and enable it when needed
10) Keep your apps and system firmware updated and to the latest version.
11) Turn off voice commands if not needed, like Google Search commands, Cortana, etc.
12) Dont use app killers or ram optimizers, just swipe away the apps you don't need from the recent menu.
This guide is for people who dont know about the tips. Power users may know about it already.

If you could improve on the phone...

Just thought to have a thread where I will try to compile all suggestions and feedback regarding the phone -- be it hardware or software (EMUI). Hope you guys think this is a good idea...
compiling a list...
1. Customisable notification lights -- whether to turn on notification LED for charging, type of colour for different events, etc... (see OP)
2. Separate volume for notification. (see OP)
3. Remove the CD-Drive where HiSuite is stored (see OP)
4. Default USB mode does not seem to work. enabled it on Develop options and set MTP as default but still, it goes to charging mode only on my phone (see OP)
5. Option to disable auto beauty mode when using front facing cam. i'm one of those that don't like beauty mode. or at least a settings where we can turn it on/ off as default. (see OP)
6. Option to manually change screen resolution to 1080p or even 720p. right now, it's automatic and comes under power savings options. (see OP)
7. Double-tap to wake. (see OP)
8. improve on smart unlock -- paired with my fitness band but the smart unlock behavior is erratic. sometimes does not work. (see OP)
9. Mobile Data stats to track usage needs a major improvement -- ability to change data cycle date. not every data cycle starts on 1st of calendar month. mine starts almost mid month, so this Mobile Data thingy is quite useless in tracking and reminding me of usage. should stick to something simple like what Samsung has got. (see OP)
10. Improve/ Reorganise options in settings. (see OP)
11. No notification when low resolution mode kicks in. Also see point 6 above. (see OP)
12. Improve on volume level, especially when using earphones. Also, an equalizer? (see OP)
13. Themes that does more than just change wallpaper and icons. (see OP)
14. Clicking sound on the power button. (see OP)
15. Charging speed when phone is used should be faster. Currently very slow. (see OP)
16. More improvements on the camera - better overall quality (including in low light) and speed. (see OP) (see OP)
17. More options for selecting network-type (which SIM gets 4G, 3G, 2G only, etc). (see OP)
18. Club honor forum needs some reworking. (see OP)
19. Expand on the menu in Power Button. (see OP)
20. Improve on low-light photography (see OP)
21. Heat issue after prolonged use of camera (4K recording) (see OP)
22. Photo and video using both front and rear camera. I know Samsung has got this and I quite love it. Useful for those still not using selfie stick. Plus, for video and doing livestream, being able to use both can be fun! <-- This seems to be on the new Nokia 8. Even if it's not possible on video, would be nice to see this option for photos.
23. Improve App Twin. Currently only two apps. Would be better if users can just clone any apps. (see OP)
24. Add quick menu on camera editable -- users can customise what they want on the camera apps' quick menu. That way, we can put whatever settings we like. Perhaps HDR. (see OP)
25. More icons/ options for Quick Access. There could be many more options like Auto Sync. (see OP)
26. Allow warranty claims even on rooted devices like OnePlus. (see OP)
27. Enhance the PIN entry screen. (see OP)
28. Allow contact events (like birthdates) to be entered without YEAR. (see OP)
and to kick things off, my own list of suggestions:
1. customisable notification lights -- whether to turn on notification LED for charging, type of colour for different events, etc...
2. separate volume for notification
3. remove the CD-Drive where HiSuite is stored
4. default USB mode does not seem to work. enabled it on Develop options and set MTP as default but still, it goes to charging mode only on my phone

Your list of suggestions is definitely a good start. IMHO, suggestions 1,2,7 are to be given high priority followed by 5,6 and 8. Regarding 3&4 I have observed the same default action on all my previous OnePlus devices also. May be it's implemented that way I guess.

Let's start -
The number of options is settings is huge. It's sort of a mess to find out a particular setting.
The low resolution power saver has no notification about when it lowers the resolution.
The double tap to wake should be there.
Notification light should be customizable.
The volume level through earphones is very low. Also an equalizer is sorely missed.
There is a click noise when pressing the power button. It irks me when the surrounding is silent.
The themes present doesn't change much other than icons and wallpapers. I would like to see themes changing QS panel and settings screen as well.
The charging speed while using the phone is way too low.
The camera quality is good enough but improvement is still desired.

regarding 3 & 4... i do wonder what is the logic for implementing it this way. anyone can share if there's a good reason to do it this way? plus, the settings in Develop Options to set default USB mode does not seem to over-ride this, making the option in Develop Options useless.

+1 for all the suggestions! If these could be managed, it would be a near perfect phone which ticks all the checkboxes.
Also club honor forum needs a vast update. It doesn't allow to post a new post after saying it is getting reviewed and the whole forum is a mess. Nobody knows what forum is for what and there are no separate sections!
just remembered something else... would be nice if the power button's options can be expanded. i mean, perhaps under Develop Options, we have the ability to add more options such as:
* screenshot
* mute (mute using volume button currently needs 2 press -- one to reduce volume to 0 and then another click to enable MUTE)
* airplane mode

i totally agree. first of all, signing up was confusing. first attempt, i ended up signing for HK account. later, i managed to create another based on correct country -- Malaysia. when i joined the club honor forum, i found it messy as well. and... there was no section on honor 8 Pro. i asked 1-2 members/ mods, but never got any reply.
in the end, came back to XDA instead.
For me, there are two major complaints. Fast charging on this device is a real bummer. It charges incredible slow. Also, I don't like the oversaturated, unnatural looking display.
Battery life and camera are just ok. Over all I'm fine with the phone.
In addition to said improvements, they should start working on an update that supports VoLTE over wider providers. Here in India, there was a problem with Jio VoLTE and the now another company (Airtel ) os going to activate it on their Network. So that should be addressed as well. Including low light photography needs improvement
---------- Post added at 01:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:10 PM ----------
Also I read in the PDF, about the meet up in Chennai, India where discussions were held for feedback, that a hashtag be created for sharing pictures on Instagram. Can I know what the hashtag is?

Regarding the volte support on other networks, it's still some months away but as the volte support is present, I guess it will work automatically on other networks also once they support it.
Low light photography. Yes needs to be improved.
Also on continuous usage of camera, it gets unreasonably hot.

sorry... what do you mean by import HDR to main display? isn't that already done?
also, auto-sync... you disable/ enable it every now and then? or? usually, i set this when i setup my phone -- to determine what needs to be sync-ed and what does not. and then just let it auto-sync...

technically, this phone does not have any Quick Charging tech. it's just regular 2A charging. the phone does not come with Huawei's Fast Charging (like on Mate9) or Qualcomm's QC or even like OnePlus's DASH. but still... full charge within 2 hours, i feel... is OK for a phone with big battery and no Quick Charge tech.
as for un-natural looking display. i dunno... i can't really tell. plus, if anything, i'm am AMOLED fan. but... having said that, i thought the phone has got some display calibration that complies to some standards?
updated: there's this DCI-p3... not sure what that means. maybe later i Google it.
was reading the Nokia8 first impression when i got reminded about this camera feature where you can take a photo with both front and back camera together. in Samsung's case, they have done it quite well. would be nice to see this on our phones.

i see. i get what you mean now. ya, sadly, camera apps don't allow us to customise the menu. I know i can do that with Samsung phones. and on some other phones, they have swipe gestures to toggle between the modes. this one... good idea!

for this... iinm, i've seen this on Samsung phones too. auto sync option. but, i never really understood why ppl need these. you don't want phone to auto-sync? why not?
just thought to highlight this... hopefully we can compile a list of suggestions/ feedback that our lucky fellows in India can share with honor India.

A40 : how to be visually warned about notifications?

hi everyone,
How to be visually warned about notifications on the Galaxy A40? (notification led? Always on display?)
Is it planned by samsung an update to enable a solution?
thanks,
Download Glimpse Notification from Play Store. Adfree app to Flash screen when notification arrive.
What a bad news.....
Nothing official from Samsung??
This program is cool with 0 memory and battery usage. I use this and perfect.
I have a Xiaomi mi band 2 too, you should buy one for 15 $ if dont like the first option.(glimpse notification)
Led is hardware option, what dont have Galaxy a40.
AOD is software solution, but for this prize Samsung Will not give this feature to a ,,budget'' phone.(Galaxy a40)
Try expandes Settings. Its in a40s Settings - there is an Option to to lighten up the display At notification

Unfortunately this option a piece of garbage. When you use your phone in your hand, this option Will blink the screen with yellow color or blink the Flash lite. If it just work when you dont use your phone this option Will be good.

P.S: Sorry mate, my job is bulls*|t.
2xP.S: After doing all this settings, you gonna have somewhere in background battery optimiser AOE, the only way to get rid of that is to go on Settings > Apps > tap on those 3 dots on the right corner > Special Access > Optimise battery usage > than Enable it for "Always on Edge" (it should disappear) > tap on the drop down menu > and select "All" > look for Always on Edge and disable it.
Oh, and "one more thing" over here
make sure u drag that slider to always:
after that reboot the phone.
