A40 : how to be visually warned about notifications? - Samsung Galaxy A40 Questions & Answers

hi everyone,
How to be visually warned about notifications on the Galaxy A40? (notification led? Always on display?)
Is it planned by samsung an update to enable a solution?
thanks,

Download Glimpse Notification from Play Store. Adfree app to Flash screen when notification arrive.

What a bad news.....
Nothing official from Samsung??

This program is cool with 0 memory and battery usage. I use this and perfect.
I have a Xiaomi mi band 2 too, you should buy one for 15 $ if dont like the first option.(glimpse notification)
Led is hardware option, what dont have Galaxy a40.
AOD is software solution, but for this prize Samsung Will not give this feature to a ,,budget'' phone.(Galaxy a40)

Try expandes Settings. Its in a40s Settings - there is an Option to to lighten up the display At notification

Unfortunately this option a piece of garbage. When you use your phone in your hand, this option Will blink the screen with yellow color or blink the Flash lite. If it just work when you dont use your phone this option Will be good.

P.S: Sorry mate, my job is bulls*|t.
2xP.S: After doing all this settings, you gonna have somewhere in background battery optimiser AOE, the only way to get rid of that is to go on Settings > Apps > tap on those 3 dots on the right corner > Special Access > Optimise battery usage > than Enable it for "Always on Edge" (it should disappear) > tap on the drop down menu > and select "All" > look for Always on Edge and disable it.
Oh, and "one more thing" over here
make sure u drag that slider to always:
after that reboot the phone.

[FROM HTC] No future updates to correct camera issues.

Hello guys,
I have contacted HTC asking them some questions, including the over contrasted pictures and whitebalance issues in the camera, oh and the pink tone as well. Here is their reply :
"Regarding the camera issue, kindly be informed that unfortunately there will not be any other updates for this issue but it is recommended that you follow the steps below to minimize the effect of this issue:
1. Under certain lighting conditions, especially indoors, the color of your picture may be tinted. In order to prevent this, try to ensure you have the flash enabled and enough ambient light to take pictures. To enable the flash, please press HOME, and then slide to Pictures and Video. In the top right of the screen press the Camera icon to launch the camera. Your phone will automatically rotate into landscape mode. Then press the lightning bolt to turn on the flash.
If your phone has less than 30% power remaining, your flash has been automatically disabled to prevent users from accidentally using their remaining battery life while using the camera. Please charge your phone to over 30% to re-enable the flash.
2. You may consider turning down the saturation on your camera. Turning the saturation down will remove the reddish tint from the center of the photograph.
To turn down saturation please press HOME, then slide to the Photos and Videos tab. Tap the Photo Icon > Menu Icon in the lower right corner > Gears Icon (settings) > Advanced Icon > then tap the right arrow 2 times to go to page 3. Then tap Image Properties > Saturation > then press the “-“(minus) icon to adjust saturation. "

4. Start > Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > Advanced> Power mode , put Power save Mode to “Best battery”
5. Start > Settings > Power > Backlight, select Auto adjust backlight
6. Start > Settings > Power > Advanced, check Turn off backlight if device is not in use and choose the timeout as 10 seconds.
7. Start > Settings >Personal > Phone > Network, set network type to Auto
8. Let phone stay idle for 1 hour and check battery capacity.

Pink photose problem was solved with hotfix
What do you mean by white balance?
If your phone eat more then 4% in 10h (night) check if all apps which likes to synch auto over the web have sync option set to off.
With freds task manager you can check for apps wasting your battery.
The update did not fix the pink tone entirely, hence the HTC employee mentioning ways to minimize the issue
The hot fix did not work for me either, I think in fact it was better without applying it. Any way to reverse the hot fix?

Hahaha!!! ROFL!!! What a copout! That's the biggest load of pap I've ever heard. Basically, if you don't like the pink blotch in the middle of your pictures, take shots that look virtually black and white instead

Thanks in advance.
If I read the HTC email correctly, he's saying that there won't be any other fixes to address the "pink blob" issue - he's not completely ruling out any future fix for any camera issue (which is what the subject line of this thread suggests). I'll be deeply dissapointed if they never address the massive over-exposure on flash shots. (OP might like to write back and point out that using the flash is generally impossible because of the over-exposure problem, and that consequently HTC's advice sucks).

Hi everybody !
Did not saw any thread which talks about battery saving tips, so this thread is for you.
Here is all tips collection I found since I bought my SGSII.
I would like to thanks all guys who posted various tips I encountered on SGSII different threads.
Feel free to contribute ! bests tips will be added ASAP with your nickname.
NOTE :
All those tips hereafter are ready for any official (Samsung ROMS) and may work on AOSP ROMs aswell (but some tips may not work, like the Samsung Apps tip for exemple).
CyanogenMod 9 and 4.0.4 ICS tips won't be added since I do not own anymore the GS2 (I now migrated to the GS3), sorry about this.

Firstly, before all, move to a 2.3.5 (or higher) Gingerbread ROM !
Note: 2.3.5 hit a new level of battery draining and managing. It is very highly recommanded to migrate into this version. Even with a stock rom and stock kernel, you will clearly see a difference.

Don't use BLN / NoLED (notifications apps from Market).
Note: this app once activated and hardware backlights on from a notification, drains like 20% in 5h sleep (tested personally) (and NoLED 8% in 1h) since BLN/NoLED don't really allows the phone to go into "deep sleep".
[*]But if you are a NoLED addict, please take a look at brahmy's setting file which will minimize consumption once load it.
Never use Tasks killer things or related.
Note: they are draining much battery than letting them on, while killing apps on the background. Let Android system managing them by itself.
Always use a black background on the desk + lockscreen (thanks Perceval from Hyrule).
Note: quoted from Perceval from Hyrule : "As it is AMOLED screen, black screen = black pixels, and on AMOLED black pixels are NOT consuming power, because black on AMOLED is not powered". Few others nice tips can be found on his post directly. I created a png directly that you can find right here :
Phone > Keypad > *#9900# > Enable "fast dormancy" > Quit
Note: This technology reduces network congestion. This would decrease unnecessary traffic at the same time as improving battery life (10 to 45%). If your carrier does not support this mode, then keep it disabled. How to check if your carrier support this mode ? click here.
Phone > Keypad > *#301279# > Click "[2] CHANGE HSPA REVISION" > Click "[1] RELEASE 99 (HSPA OFF)" > Back.
Note: locking to 3G only. To reactivate HSPA : Keypad > *#301279# > "[2]" > "[3]".
Install "JuiceDefender" or "Green Power" from Android Market.
Note: some users seems experiencing better battery life without those apps, so best solution is to test them by yourself.
Install a Kernel which allow UV (UnderVolt) to save a bit more battery.
Note: only if the Kernel of your ROM accepts it, so please verify if your ROM/Kernel is compatible. And of course, do not OC (OverClocking) your device more than 1200Mhz. Don't forget that every chips are differents so final results from a device and another are too. Always put moderate values, agressiv ones may get your phone rebooting and drain more battery than moderate. I would suggest to not go higher than -100mV. Moreover undervolting is impacting less battery heat aswell.
If you have multiple mail accounts, turn off auto-sync feature to refresh them manually. (thanks rumthin)
Settings > Accounts & sync > Auto-sync : [UNTICK]
Note: this will works also for any app like Facebook, Twitter, Beautiful Widget, etc..
Load this View attachment SetCPU_Profiles.setcpudb.txt file.
Note: once downloaded, rename "SetCPU_Profiles.setcpudb.txt" to "SetCPU_Profiles.setcpudb", put it on your in the root of your sdcard directory, go on SetCPU, and load the file on the "Profiles" tab directly by pressing menu (hardware button). Remember to never kill SetCPU process. If the file is properly loaded, it must look like hereafter. Note that many recent kernels already integrating some sleep tweaks configurations into governors like "conservative" or other, so this kind of tip is getting a bit old now.
Delete the following apps from your Samsung ROM :
Note: I recommand everybody to delete those apps which drains a lot in the background. Of course, you can keep them if you use them. Remember to always Nandroid backup before (just in case). You can deleted them directly using TitaniumBackup root app (safely), by Root Explorer, or delete them in "/system/app" manually (in the ROM zip) before flashing a new ROM.

About NoLED I don't know as I never tried it, but I guess it's based on a wakelock too, so I guess the problem will remain the same, but I'am not sure.
About Fast dormancy, I found the tips on Cognition S2 ROM thread, some poeple sharing their expenriences here as battery life improved with disabling it.

Why we should leave this option disabled? It says "Save power by..." so it should help getting better battery results. Did You find anything that would show it doesn't work?

This option is totally useless as it does absolutely nothing : automatic brightness already include it, so it's always better to untick this box as it (maybe) consum cpu for nothing concerning the sensometer.

A lot of people here on XDA and on Market definitely shows their enthusiast about this app (approx 4 dudes on 5 that I cross is happy with it and says it's much better with it), so do I. And some developpers are using it too, I don't think its so useless as that then

I think it's a good app for scheduling 3G/WiFi/Packet Data/GPS etc. I've used this app for more than one week, the Ultimate version, and it saved no battery but ended up under a big amount of time in Wakelock. So it basically drained more than saving.
Regards.
If you set it up correctly it's definitely a great app and it saves a lot more juice by managing your 3G than draining with wakelocks.
For BLN, is it 20% in 5h with "activated" BLN (lights on with a new(s) message(s) ) or is it all the time ?

Only when lights goes on.
If anyone is running multiple pop3, imap, or exchange email accounts, I highly recommend setting all of them to manual sync. I had three accounts set to update every hour, and my battery was draining at a rate of about 30-50 mA in idle. After setting them to manual, my idle battery consumption is at ~5mA in idle. It made a huge difference.
How are you monitoring you current drain , the lowest i have got is 15mah with battery monitor widget pro, though i wish we had true ma reporting like htc , not estimated

I agree that Juice Defender Ultimate is a great app for scheduling sync and turning off Wi-Fi (and/or mobile data) when the screen is off. This effectively saves battery. I have been using it for a while and I like it. Of course, its use results in wake locks, as it happens every time the app is activated when the screen goes off and when it activates the sync accordingly to the schedule set up.
The best solution would be to manually sync e-mails and everything else and to manually turn off Wi-Fi (and/or mobile data) when not using it. It would be roughly what JD Ultimate does, but without the wake locks.
However, I prefer using JD Ultimate for this, as it is much simpler than doing all the stuff manually every time you just want to quickly check an e-mail. The wake locks are the price to be paid for the simplicity.
I have doubts, however, whether the other versions of the JD are of any help or not, as they don't have the schedule functionality. JD Ultimate is useful, but it is not cheap. One might prefer to do things manually or leave Wi-Fi (or mobile data) and sync on all the time (but then the battery will go very fast).

Well it didn't do for me. Now if you are a person always connected to WiFi/3G and do not turn them off manually then JDU could have saved some juice but if you don't use them all time and have time to disable them manually then no way JDU will save any but drain it. I always had JDU as the first list under Wakelocks in BBS. Stats can't be wrong, can they?
Anyway, I am not going with this any far. Just to say if anyone likes JD then keep using but I, for me, will never use it.
EOD.

Yes my 3G would always be on when the phone is switched on so in that regard yes it definitely does save a lot of battery.
I am good at tuning wifi, gps, blutooth on and off myself as needed , so Juice Defender is not of benefit, though i did buy Green Power battery saver, and it worked with another android phone i had, but i would only use the function to turn off all transmitters at bed time, eg airplane mode, but it does not seem to work on the S2

Enable notification light on Moto G 4 Plus [Root Required]
Hey,
After a little experimentation, I found that you can use the Light Flow Legacy app to control the led. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflowlegacy&hl=en)
Once you've installed it, you must give notification access.
Go to menu > settings > Device Settings and Root > check "root mode" and "run every command as root".
Then go to menu > settings > LED control > Additional LEDs found > check "charging control"
Now, go to menu > notification settings > click the 3-dot menu on any of the items in the list > settings
In the next screen, swipe right to find a tab called Light. Find charging LED and click on it. You'll have an option of turning it "solid".
You also have an option to set its brightness, but that setting didn't change the led's brightness.
On the top right corner, you have an option called "Test". Click on that and switch off your display.
You should see the charging led light up.
Cheers.
Any Rooted User Can Try This App.

I think we can use the LED once the device is rooted. We can use apps like " Light Flow Legacy" and "Moto LED".Not sure if this will work or not.
But these apps worked on Moto G3 so i think these will work on the 4th gen as well

Light flow legacy doesnt work for me. Moto LED might, but what's the point. It doesn't allow for notification lightup.
did you find a non root method which work
Feature is crucial to me. I need my g4 to notify me of messages without having to pick the phone up. Has anyone got this to work as such?

I'm just curious but why is that small, barely visible in full light led any better than a notification turning your screen on.
For the simple fact I would notice my phone blinking at me without having to pick it up. I'm not sure I can explain it better than that other than without this feature I would be picking up my phone all the time for fear I have a missed message. I don't want to be doing this.

It only light up the screen when you first get the notification. If you missed it, the only way to access is to physically move the Moto g4. A pulsing light is always on. The amoled moto's have the consistent pulse notifications which sought of makes the light unnecessary. I too hope moto will activate this feature in a future update.

Thanks to Sai_D for the configuration info for Light Flow Legacy. Works for me on XT1641 (rooted of course).
I had installed it earlier but didn't have it configured properly and so it wasn't working.
Notification LED + Active Display is a great combo -- the LED tells you that you have a notification and then a simple nudge of the phone activates the display so you can see what it is.
Hey guys, someone can tell me if Moto G4 PLAY has hidden led light too? I'm really looking forward it! Thanks!

S7 Edge (exynos) keeps killing Apps in BG after few minutes

Hey there, is there any way how to stop that feature that will kill App in background (especially Pokemon GO), when im using Pokemon Go Plus, original App must be fully loaded in Background. But after few minutes phone will "kill" pokemon go and i have to reload game and pair it with Pokemon GO plus again.
Is there any way how to make App/Game priority so phone wont kill it when im not using it ?
Hope you understand

I have a few things for you to try
1.
Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery > Advanced(top right)
You can either just turn off App Power Monitor (if you do ignore number 2.)
or if you want to use it still you can click on it and then click "put unused apps to sleep" and change the sleep delay.
2.
Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery > Unmonitored Apps (scroll right down to the bottom to find it)
and add the apps you dont want it to monitor.
If none of this has worked for you its possible an option in devloper settings is enabled.
3.
Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Tap "build number" over and over untill Developer Mode is enabled
Then go to
Settings > Developer options (at the very bottom) > Make sure "Do not keep activities" is turned off and that "limit background processes" is set to standard.
Hope this helps :good:
