HD2 to Verizon - HD2 General

I am sure everyone already saw this by now but just in case:
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/11/02/verizon-to-aim-for-the-smartphone-crown/
I spoke to friend at Verizon who said he confirmed they are getting the phone before end of the year but corporate (obviously) hasn't given out an official date. So let me Imagio buyer's remorse begin.

Where does it say the HD2 is coming to VZW? The only mention of HTC in the article is of the Passion, an Android device.

The HTC CEO already announced they are not making an HD2 running Android last week in an interview, he said it is WinMo only hardware (for now at least). The Passion is in the Verizon name for the HD2/Dragon.

Just because HTC are not planning to make an Android version of HD2 does not mean they have no plans for an Android phone altogether. The HTC Passion/Dragon is an entirely different device than the HD2.

Hero for Sprint

I had to contact customer service for a billing issue and also asked the guy about if the Hero was coming to sprint and he said YES!!! I know it's just a customer service guy and they've been wrong in the past, but I'm hopeful.
I've been hearing that too. The real question (since I firmly believe that the customer service guy has it right for a chance) is when. My guess (for no real reason whatsoever so don't quote me on this) is in August.
That's great news! All I need are answers to my questions I posted in the Hero Q & A forum to seal the deal.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532760
From what I understand, the only company whose bandwidths that HTC has applied for, for the Hero, is AT&T. I was despritely hoping the T-Mobile would be first to launch, but I've heard from many people and sources that AT&T will be the first to carry the Hero.

I am also desperate for T-Mobile to get this phone. I would get the mytouch 3g, but T-Mo got the lame version with less ram which kinda turns me off that...why not just get a g1 and have a keyboard if it's going to have the same specs? It sucks...I'm due for an upgrade next month, and really want to do it quickly (I'm still using a wing), but I want the Hero. The Touch Pro 2 is awesome but I think I want to get away from windows mobile. Dammit!
I hope T-Mo USA wakes up and takes the Hero...If the Hero is launching under the UK T-Mo then why can't it launch in the states? If they allow another carrier to get their hands on possibly THE BEST Android handset I would be so upset. It doesn't make sense to get the ball rolling with Android and then give up the most prized possession to another carrier.

HTC Hero coming to Telus - confirmed

OK, so I know this isn't the Hero forum but with the amount of people running Android on their Vogues, I know this will be welcome news to a number of people here.
Last night, I was talking to a friend of mine who works at Telus, and he promised me that Telus is getting the Hero this fall. He's 100% sure of this fact.
This also means there's a fair chance that it will come to Bell Canada, Verizon, and/or Sprint.
I'd still rather have the Samsung i7500, but I'll be more than happy with a Hero.

Sadly, no. I pumped my friend for as much info as I could, all I got was "the fall."

Confirmed from T-Mobile Rep: HTC HD2 WILL HAVE WM7!

I spoke with a T-mobile rep here in Moreno Valley CA and he said that HTC reps have frequent meetings with reps at stores and that the HTC HD2 WILL HAVE WM7! He said he physically saw it on the HD2 that the HTC rep had with him. And as far as price....according to him the HD2 will not be priced under $529, The phone w/o contract will cost at least $529. I believe this news will be announced at MIX10.
You can disregard this info if you want, but now that I've heard this....the HD2 will be my new phone. Sorry N1.

Was this REP trying to get you to sign up to a contact with them or sell you the HD2? I wouldn't take that as gospel unless you had it in writing. Atleast then you could take his ass to court.
On i side note i am not too bothered if WP7 comes to the HD2 seen as the ZUNE service will probally be as crap as it is now outside of the U.S.
What's so cool about WP7 ?

No, he didn't try and push me into a contract. Just exciting news from on phone

surprised what WM7 will have to offer. When MIX10 hits, I think they'll announce a totally re-designed marketplace. Everyone questioning what WM7

I happened to be looking for a BB bold on craigslist a found a local guy selling them for 325 brand new in the box. anyway we talked for a while and for the past week and it turns out he can gets them from his sister that works at tmobile. not sure whats going on but the last one he had sold on ebay for 805 and he has one now that he will sell for 900 but thats crazy since it should be out this month.

The problem with your story is the pricing is wrong. The leaks that TMo News got (From an arguably much more reliable source) put the phone priced at $449 w/o contract and $199 on a EM contract plan. Kinda makes the rest.....significantly less believable as much as I'd love it to be true.

definitely not true...hd2 will NOT be getting the upgrade to WP7S because HTC is proud of Sense UI and 7 is not skinnable...(retail full price is also completely off...youll be happy that it is not 529 )

I'd take that with a grain of salt. My girlfriend works at T-Mobile(she gets a free HD2 for 60 days for attending the training ) and from what she told me and from what I've seen online its to be 449 off contract and 199 on contract. Don't believe me? How about these leaked price sheets?
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/03/htc-hd2-nuron-and-cliq-xt-pricing-cometh/
So I wouldn't believe much of what this guy told you, most people who work at a T-Mobile store don't know much about their phones or what's coming. Hell I actually knew about the MyTouch Slide before my girlfriend did. But she has been out doing me recently when it comes to the new stuff, so I'm pretty sure it won't be 529 on contract.
Wait wait, I saw that page before and just thought 'wow, great price' and clicked off. Now that I looked closer, the HD2 is priced the same as the measly mytouch or a TP2? That's just... wrong.
Not saying it's untrue, but that is a pretty odd pricing strategy.
So when a sales person at a mobile provider says something that we don't want to hear, we're all like "Yeah, but they never know what they're talking about anyway", but when they say something that we do want to hear, we're all like "Wow, I can't wait for this! The guy was really genuine and smart and obviously very good at his job and cared for his customers' needs!"
Incidentally, I don't want WP7S - I think it looks gash. It looks like something you'd have thought was futuristic in the 80s, but old-news in the 90s. It's bloody awful (and fugly).

G1 died today.....what phone to get

So ya i was hoping my G1 would survive till an android phone with the 1ghz cpu was released to t-mobile in store, but it didn't make it. Unfortunately i cant get the Nexus in the t-mobile store, which i think was a terrible idea on google's side, but whatever. What other android phone you guys think would be a great device to have?
got the wife a Behold 2, and its AWESOME.....after i rooted it and put a custom rom on it. The mytouch is ok. reminds me a lot of the G1. Ill never buy a motorola product ever again.......does anyone know of any other android devices coming out for t-mobile anytime soon?
thanks a ton for the time!
cheers!
The HD2? It's Winmo but these clever minds here on XDA will soon put Android on it, I'm pretty sure.
I felt the MT3G is a vast difference from G1, and you can check out the 1.2 version as well.

It sounds like we may be in similar situations, this is what I am thinking:
Im wondering the same thing. i have a mytouch, and wife now needs a new phone. Not getting the nexus bc of the family plan we have, and not gonna spend $500 on it.
Since it does not look like tmobile is coming out with any new (nexus like performance) phones really soon, this is what I think we are going to do, maybe good for you too:
I think we are going to find a mytouch on craigslist (like mine). hopefully for around $150. root it so that it runs good, and wait for tmobile to come out with something good, then use upgrade to get discount on new phone. Then sell the mytouch (purchased from craigslist) on ebay for about the same, if not more...
sounds like we are in the similar situations, so figured i would share about the only option I can see would be good. What do you think? good luck

No, it was a very good idea. T-Mobile would lock it down and not let it be used on any other carrier, without unlocking. I'm sure you know that a large portion (probably around 60 - 70%, if not, more) of all cell phone users have never even HEARD of unlocking. Not being on just one carrier = more buyers. More buyers = more money.

Aside from the CDMA junk, both GSM versions are happy to work on other networks, not just the one whose 3G band is compatible.
I.e., the tmobile3G version is compatible with ATT2G, and the ATT3G version is compatible with tmobile2G. They are both compatible with INTERNATIONAL2G and some 3G.
Further, if you decide to go to.... europe, or wherever, with an unlocked phone, you can buy a LOCAL SIMCARD and it will work IFF your phone is unlocked.
But there is MORE TO BEING UNLOCKED than just sim-unlocked. There is also FIRMWARE unlocked, and with GN1, it is TRIVIAL -- "fastboot oem unlock" is the command. This allows you to load CUSTOM FIRMWARE to the device.... which is not possible with a carrier-branded device.
If you like the phone, buy it from google. They are a very reputable seller.
Expect this in the future though: as 2G dies away, you will start to see 3G-only devices with full 6-band 3G radios -- 850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100. These devices, when they appear, will be universal.

No, the Desire is going to be exclusive to Verizon in the US, thus cannot be used on T-Mobile because it is CDMA.

Heck yeah the HD2 is awsome, even though its not android. Like somebody above said people here at XDA will find a way to put android on it. That HUGE screen is amazing.
If you ask T-Mobile they are sure to say that one of their "lovely" blur devices is what you want, kindly kick their shin and spit on them if they do
and then Toot and, oh, I apologize, TWEET and inform us what phone you got on your way to jail.

JUST FYI, NO U.S.A carriers has been announced for the Desire or Legend and since HTC wants this to be their "super phone" it will most likely be GSM since it will be world compatible (on edge anyway) You are probably thinking about the HTC Incredible (A completely different phone)
Any way I would go with the HTC HD2 since it is a great device and there will be an android rom for it one day and when a great android phone comes out for t-mobile just sell the HTC HD2 (someone will buy it on XDA, you should get around $300 for it if you take care of it)

moto isn't a good company. They been saying for a few months that the droid will get the 2.1 update in a week but it has been pushed back a lot of times. They finally pushed the update but to the milestone (droid's name for other countries) so now the droid users are pissed.
I would only choose moto for an android phone as a last resort because HTC is the brand for me.
WOW! The HTC Legend looks amazing!!

I thought the supersonic/EVO was the android version of HD2.
only thing I like about the HD2 is how big the screen is...yet so thin like a razor, but I'd much rather wait...even if the devs dished out a android rom for it tonight, I don't want to waste my upgrade on a WMO phone regardless of it's value or capability...simply because I'm stubborn
As far as the Desire goes, I believe it will be coming to T-mobile and if not, more likely a universal unlocked release like the N1...but as far as the Verizon only rumor, bullsh*t. HTC would never let me down like Moto did with the Droid
I have had up close experience with the N1, (friend of mines owns it), lovely phone, simply the best Android has to offer right now until proven otherwise by a later release, but I'm not going for it
If I'm going dish $500 bucks or more for something it will most def. be the Desire...because that is what I desire

Why is there no release date?

I don't understand... Both AT&T and TMo have released their phones (although AT&T's isn't suppose to be released until Sunday), yet there still is no release date even announced for the Epic. Futhermore, EVOs are still out of stock. Sprint is really dropping the ball.
I search everyday to see if a release date has been announced as it's the day I move from Verizon, but I'm becoming impatient.
Given that both the CDMA(Sprint, Verizon) versions of the phones have not been given a release date. I am going to guess it has to do with some difficulties or issues with this version.
The GSM(ATT, TMobile) versions were so quick because they are nearly identical to the original.

not necessarily - the Captivate was only submitted to the FCC on 6/11 and is launching just 5 weeks after.
I’m not sure if the FCC makes records available immediately once they’re submitted, or if they wait until after the devices have been approved. In the second case, they could have already been submitted and we still wouldn’t see them listed.
Question to mods - I tried posting a link to the Captivate info on the FCC site, but I'm too new. How long does that restriction last? thx
tweeted by samsung 2 hours ago;
"if you are on Sprint, make sure you pick up the Sprint Samsung Epic 4G. no launch date/price but it's coming out this summer."
I asked them to define summer
You can have the FCC withhold information until it is close to release date..
So far the most precise release date I found was late july -early august for the epic 4g...the verizon one best I found is late august - early fall

No just return the Evo say you didn't like it and tell them you want the Epic instead. Pay the difference if any (which I doubt) and walk out with the new phone. If you're buying from a Sprint store be careful this may mess with your rebate, that's why I buy Best Buy Mobile or Radio Shack I hate rebates.
If you swap phones within 30 days, there will be a $35 restocking fee.
As for the Epic, there's no SIM slot, can tell you that with 100% certainty.

By that you mean you actually took apart the device and saw it is not there?
cause so far the specs that were outed a month ago were dead on and there was a mention of it having a SIM slot in there...of course that was possible to be in only the prototype..
gTen, SIM slots are a standard requirement of GSM phones. Sprint is a CDMA based provider. So no, it will not have a SIM slot.
More details here.
Was under the impression worldphone sprint blackberrys have sim cards,
as does iden devices technically. I'm really doubting the epic will be a world phone though
