Why is there no release date? - Epic 4G General

I don't understand... Both AT&T and TMo have released their phones (although AT&T's isn't suppose to be released until Sunday), yet there still is no release date even announced for the Epic. Futhermore, EVOs are still out of stock. Sprint is really dropping the ball.
I search everyday to see if a release date has been announced as it's the day I move from Verizon, but I'm becoming impatient.

Given that both the CDMA(Sprint, Verizon) versions of the phones have not been given a release date. I am going to guess it has to do with some difficulties or issues with this version.
The GSM(ATT, TMobile) versions were so quick because they are nearly identical to the original.

What I find interesting is that I don't think the Epic has even passed FCC yet, whereas the GSM versions passed FCC months ago.

Really Is this true?
Maybe thats the hold up?
I just wish they would announce at least the price or the date either one.
The tesing of it is killing me.

I tried finding any fcc info and I cant. If its not fcc approved or under galaxy s fcc approval then we have at least 2 to 4 months more to wait.

not necessarily - the Captivate was only submitted to the FCC on 6/11 and is launching just 5 weeks after.
I’m not sure if the FCC makes records available immediately once they’re submitted, or if they wait until after the devices have been approved. In the second case, they could have already been submitted and we still wouldn’t see them listed.
Question to mods - I tried posting a link to the Captivate info on the FCC site, but I'm too new. How long does that restriction last? thx

tweeted by samsung 2 hours ago;
"if you are on Sprint, make sure you pick up the Sprint Samsung Epic 4G. no launch date/price but it's coming out this summer."
I asked them to define summer

You can have the FCC withhold information until it is close to release date..
So far the most precise release date I found was late july -early august for the epic 4g...the verizon one best I found is late august - early fall

I was at radioshack today to purchase my EVO and I asked the sales guy about the epic, he claimed mid to late September...

It is possible that radioshack may not stock the Sprint version at first because of their recent dealing with T-mobile and it competing with the Vibrant...

Nope, I'm guessing mid to late August. I was chosen to be the store rep who gets the phone early, and I'm expecting the phone this week or next. Usually we get them about a month earlier than the general public.

If you get the phone, can you check if there is a SIM card slot or not? thats pretty much the only major information that we have not gotten confirmation for...aside from the release date of course lol

If I get an EVO now, and the Epic comes out in 30 days and I want to switch, is there some fees I have to pay?

No just return the Evo say you didn't like it and tell them you want the Epic instead. Pay the difference if any (which I doubt) and walk out with the new phone. If you're buying from a Sprint store be careful this may mess with your rebate, that's why I buy Best Buy Mobile or Radio Shack I hate rebates.

If you swap phones within 30 days, there will be a $35 restocking fee.
As for the Epic, there's no SIM slot, can tell you that with 100% certainty.

By that you mean you actually took apart the device and saw it is not there?
cause so far the specs that were outed a month ago were dead on and there was a mention of it having a SIM slot in there...of course that was possible to be in only the prototype..

gTen, SIM slots are a standard requirement of GSM phones. Sprint is a CDMA based provider. So no, it will not have a SIM slot.
More details here.

Was under the impression worldphone sprint blackberrys have sim cards,
as does iden devices technically. I'm really doubting the epic will be a world phone though

Yes I know that much..but TP2 did CDMA and GSM..so do the BB, LG Fathom and a few other phones too...
The SIM card slot was mentioned in the Leak of the device..aka its CDMA/Wimax/GSM..but so far other then the leak no one has confirmed it or denied it thus far with actual evidence...

The TP2 was sold as a world phone the Epic and Evo are not advertised as world phones although the unlocked variant of the Galaxy S I believe might be.

This is a bad omen. The only reason I can think of, to push a pre-order date, is because the release date or some other launch detail isn't ready. Last minute OS bug maybe?
You should also know that you won’t be able to re-activate the data package on this device whenever you like at no cost. An activation charge will be enforced each time you re-activate.

What a friggin scam. The whole benefit of CDMA is the lack of nonsense with SIM cards, and month to month isn't really month to month with activation costs.
Hopefully the delay is caused by the introduction of the WiFi only version? Seems logical to me..

I would be absolutely excited if the WiFi only was coming too. I personally don't see it happening, but hey if I'm wrong then by all means I'll be wrong and happy at the same time.
On the activation fee each time. I wonder if that's a Verizon thing or a BestBuy thing, as they said they don't want to encourage customers to cancel after the first month because they don't get their bonus until the customer keeps it active for 2 months or more.
It could be for the WiFi version. They pushed it back at Motorola's request, and Motorola released the detailed specs on their website today (no difference besides lack of 3G.)
We'll have to wait and see..

Most likely it was a Verizon decision. Month to month is essentially a contract and will automatically bill you each month, but unlike a true contract you can cancel at any time, no strings attached. The fact that they charge an activation fee makes it contractual, because if it were truly month to month you'd pay each month at any time with no obligations, like an MMORPG subscription.

I actually think you may be right. I dont remember seeing the wifi model (then again i dont check reguarly) and is it coincidence that sanjay jha said it would be around 600 the same day this is announced? By the sequence of events going on, I can see them delaying preorder 3 days to add the information to their servers. It also gives moto a little more time to ship out. If the preorder was delayed then the release date is probably moved back too. I know it can be alot of things but given the evidence starting with the leaked price, following the fcc leak of the wifi version, and sanjay saying how much the wifi version is (why announce how much it is if it wasnt near release?), i believe that is the closest reasoning to why it wass moved back.
sounds like good reasoning. hope that is certainly the case. I think the public response to the verizon version might have moto shifting things around a bit.
Actually, they confirmed both prices today. They had never officially announced the price of either until today.

yea, when i said leaked price, i was referring to the reaction to it. i think that spurred on to maybe an earlier release of wifi model than expected. of course it is just speculation but i think its also realistic.

The response to the Verizon version was very possibly the strongest response to a products pricing in modern times . This is the first of an army of real Android Tablets. Android is an industry juggernaut and all eyes are on Motorola to get this right. Motorola being an old-fashioned OEM might not be privvy to the groundswell of public dissatisfaction, but their partner Google sure as hell is.
Delay
They believe the delay is because the Motorola Atrix is releasing sooner then expected. As in next week, so they pushed the pre-order back for the Xoom allowing the Atrix to sell and take pre-orders a few days later for the Xoom

USA - May 24 Announcement, potentially all carriers!!!!!

May 24, New York City
androidcentral.com
almost exactly 11 months after this
intomobile.com
I am sensing SUNDAY June 12th AT&T release of Samsung Galaxy Attain (almost 11 months after the Captivate)!!!
How long was it from when they made the announcement last year did the Galaxy S actually go on sale on AT&T?
Here you go, last years dates I posted earlier
kreoXDA said:
Do you guys remember how the first Galaxy was introduced on the 4 carriers last year?
Let me remind you
June 4th - first release in Asia
June 29th - launch party in New York City where it was first announced that 4 models were coming to 4 carriers, with no dates. (+25 days)
Later on, gradually, release dates were being announced about 1-3 weeks prior to a particular release. The phone was released as follows:
T-Mob - July 15th (+41 days)
AT&T - July 18th (+44 days)
Sprint, keyboarded CDMA version - August 30th (+87 days)
Verizon, CDMA version - September 9th (+97 days)
We learned that SGS1 was even coming to the United States 3.5 weeks after the phone was released in Asia.
The quickest provider T-Mob got it almost 6 weeks after the first country.
The slowest provider VZW - 3 months after.
So give this some time, sit back, relax, wait for bug reports from the UK beta testers , and enjoy your fixed (or maimed) version in a few short weeks.
peace

lol after dealing with the ATT Craptivate for a year I'll gladly "beta test" the vanilla samsung GS2
good luck with your carrier updates. I'm done purchasing US phones "variants" that force you to use reorient kernels for the Roms.
Thanks for the release date info. Looks like they're following a similar schedule... just bumped ahead 1 month from last year =)
Still, as much as I'd like to wait for a US variant... I don't really want to have to sign a contract to get one, nor do I want to put up with the bloatware and filth they put on the phone. Rooting and flashing ROMs on my T-mobile spec Galaxy S was annoying, having to ODIN back to certain firmwares before being able to flash a new ROM.
And the one question that I'm still wondering... will the US be getting a tegra version? That would suck =(

i've been off contract since Dec. i had originally settled on getting the Infuse when it was first announced but instantly fell in love with the SGS2 and decided to wait. but... i need a new phone NOW. actually i needed a new one 2 months ago but decided to hold strong for the SGS2... but it's come to a point where my current phone is damn near unusable, so i think i'm going to get the infuse when it launches and roll the dice on the sgs2 coming out before the remorse period ends. or failing that just give it back and wait some more for the sgs2 to release.
I think the best option for some of us is to buy the carrier branded version on contract, sell it, and use that money to get the vanilla SGS 2. After dealing with all the Captivate issues as well I'm never buying a carrier branded Android ever again.

If i was on att there would be no doubt id go with international like you said no waiting for carrier update, no carrier branding and missing hardware features.

That's one point where you're crazy. The Captivate is the nicest Galaxy S and has a lot less plastic than any other one. Everyone has told me they liked the Captivate over the other Galaxy S variants. I've been very happy with the Captivate, but not as happy about the AT&T branding and waiting for their crap.
I would much rather spend the money and buy the phone unlocked than buy it from ATT.

Only issue I see with this is warranty support. If Samsung US would support a UK model fine, but if it requires international shipping that would give me pause.
What if the US version has NFC? Would that change your mind?
Yes, NFC is useless right now, but wouldn't that at least lower your resell value of the UK version whenever one else in your area has NFC?

Given the fact (I hope) all 4 major carriers are getting it, and AT&T, VZW and T-Mob are in an NFC payment system alliance , the chances of US getting NFC versions are not extremely low

I don't see NFC being that important to me right away. I am guessing by the time it becomes important to me, I will already be looking at another phone.
Also, even though the UK might not be getting the NFC version, you probably will still be able to buy a NFC version unlocked from another country.
Hate to say it... but until the iPhone gets NFC it's not worth worrying about.
Devices still need to be upgraded in stores, airlines, and what not to accept NFC no? The above poster is probably correct, the phones are going to need to be widely available before companies spend the money to upgrade their equipment.

Interesting. I am REALLY killing myself staring at pictures of these phones. I have a Samsung Epic 4G (not the Touch), and am dying with this archaic phone.
Anyway I find it interesting that your source says that AT&T is releasing the phone in late September since this week is as late as late September can get, and we haven't heard the smallest hint of this happening.
I am with Sprint, and although my contract expires October 15th, I think that I would only have to pay a prorated ETF, and this may be the best reason that I could have to go to AT&T.

Thought I would start this thread for those who have info regarding the upcoming release of the One in Canada.
I have pre-ordered mine through Rogers. I believe the pre-order ends on March 22. Perhaps that is when we may expect the release of the One. That's the most solid info that seems to be floating around.
Anyone have info related to the Canadian release date, please post.

Yes,
I did the opposite. I bought a One V from Koodo outright ($175), put my Telus sim card in it and was up and running in no time.
A Telus or Koodo "locked" device work on either. My "my Telus Mobility" page even shows a Koodo One V as my current phone.

Damn I am jealous of all you guys. I got an HTC One X+ about 4 months ago. I would love to have the One but I need to wait for the next iteration. I know for the vast majority of people the storage is enough, but I need at least 64GB. My one X+ has 4 GB free and it is 64. Here is to hoping for the next one. I love the build quality of HTC devices compared to other android vendors, and from what it seems this one is the best so far.

Yup, blackberries are unique because of BBM and the fact that their email etc has to be routed through their servers. That is also why all companies have smartphone plans, then blackberry plans due to the licencing fee. If it is not a Blackberry, it should be fine. The fellow I responded to was asking specifically about the One

I am hoping the 64gb version of the One makes it here (in black). If not, 32gb is fine for me at least. I got the One V as a temp phone cause I was pissed last years One XL and S had only 16gb versions for Canada. Almost jumpsed on the One X+ but figured i'd wait for the inevitable spring / MWC ish flagship that HTC always releases. I am glad I did.

I read that it would be available in March. I haven't read of any delays in Canada. Nothing other than they won't disclose a launch date and it is nearing the end of the month.
So perhaps it no longer is March.

In fact, they just delayed even further the release on the other markets (i.e., Italy was March end, now is April 13th)

"HTC Canada: Mihir - We don't have any exact dates or prices but it will begin to be available in certain regions in March. Stay tuned for more."
Granted this was said in Feb.

Any Sprint users?

I received the $100 off email yesterday. But I'm on Sprint. And I can't select Sprint on the pre-order site, so I haven't ordered the phone yet.
Has anyone pre-ordered a Sprint phone yet?
It hasn't even been announced when pre-orders will take place.
Sprint M8

Me too, contacted Sprint, no tentative date of release. They need to get the ball rolling.
I'm waiting as well.
I must admit, I've been very excited for the release of this device. I've been a big fan of HTC since the Hero days and am still quite happy with and impressed by my trusty M7. The release of the 10 has, in my opinion, been nothing short of dismal. As evidenced by Samsung and even LG, you need to have your product available when the hype is at its peak. I'm really optimistic that the 10 will be worth the wait (despite not being water resistant, which would have put the thing over-the-top) but in this day and age people don't like to wait and with so many other great options available a struggling company can't afford to miss out on even one potential sale...
Totally agree. Should have been available at announcement.
Verizon is the #1 Carrier and seems to sell the most phones for HTC so I have no doubt that they were the first because of that. Back on the M8 sprint got the only harman kardon edition and I am think they didn't sell as many as HTC would have liked. HTC is trying to fix their profit problems in the US and one way to do that is to make Verizon happy. The sprint version will come. We already know a t-mobile phone will come as they did an un-boxing yet no announcement and I would assume its because Verizon rigged the game to be first. ATT won't sell it probably because they don't care to, they know people that want the phone want an unlocked/unlocked bootloader and will pay for it and they are possibly fine with that. Plus I assume they have have a better deal with Samsung and Apple where they make more money per phone sold. I will say it is sad to see that the unlocked version wont work on sprint, I think you can blame Verizon for that. This is only my opinion but verizon is opposed to unlocked bootloaders we all know, but since its CDMA it would be eaiser for HTC to make one "CDMA version" of the phone for both Verizon and sprint. It is still unclear if the unlocked version will have CDMA bands my guess is it wont. If it has CDMA the unlocked version has band 13 and should work on Verizon. That would be a big disappointment for sprint users since it does not have the 25, 26, 41 LTE bands. I am just glad I will be on ATT now...
I should add Verizon always gets their way, I cant wait till they day that stops but until then bye bye.
Really surprised there's not even a sign of when pre-orders are going to start yet. All the hype will be gone by the time that date arrives....

Yea, I mean I know it's first world problems, but I need a new phone and I want the new HTC.
saw a email (addressed to someone else) from a marketing VP @ HTC which said the sprint option would be available on htc.com on 5/11...take that with a grain of salt...it didn't mention if the option was to buy or pre-order, though you'd think by then it should be the option to buy!
Let's hope so

5/11....wow. I surely miss the days of the M8 launch. I guess funding is the biggest issue with availability. I hope that the 10 can really help out HTC with their finances.

I'm waiting, hoping I can get it =P
Waiting (im)patiently as well. Neither HTC nor Sprint will cough up an actual date. Hopefully the 11th is true. Or sooner.
Looks like it's officially released on the 13th for sprint. http://www.droid-life.com/2016/04/29/sprint-gets-htc

Still too far away, lol. Hopefully pre-orders start soon. Thanks for the info though.
So, no contract renewals for 199$ ?
We are expected to pay for the phone AND stay with Sprint using a phone that cannot be transferred to any other GSM network?
Somehow, GSM carriers are now looking good.
I have been with sprint since they kitted out as Sprint. Hope the above is not the only option.

Consider T-Mobile if the coverage works in your area. It's super fast in most big cities, the plans are reasonable and they are modding friendly.
But T Mobile will not have OMJ
