Charging - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Hi all,
My TD1 would charge from any mini-usb charger (such as the one I have with my TomTom). I put the TD2 on charge from one of these last night. The front light went orange, and the battery status changed to charging. However, I wake up this morning (7 hours later) and the light is still orange. I disconnect and look at the battery info and it says the last charge was yesterday.
Is the TD2 fussy about which charger you use? I really hope HTC are not pulling an Apple and locking their devices to only their accessories!

I think I remember reading something about an option for not charging the battery when connected on PC USB (presumably for saving laptop batteries ;-) ) in the manual.
So I guess that the TD2 has a way to detect if it is plugged into a charger or a laptop, and maybe it can do that only with HTC charger, believing your charger is in fact a laptop. I would have guessed they use the activesync status to differentiate between PC and charger, but maybe not ;-)
So what could maybe solve your problem is to select "charging battery if plugged to a computer", I think it is in the touchflow 3D options somewhere... I would play with those options to check if it improve things...

Settings - All Settings - Batter - (Battery Tab). "When device is turned on, do not chagre the battery when connected to the PC.".
For me this is unticked - and when it was plugged in the battery reported as 'charging'.
Strange!

Does it work with the standard HTC charger?
And plugging to a PC?
If yes, your other charger may be a little light in specs (amperage too small, or voltage slightly below USB specs) and the TD2 may be picky regarding this...
I would also inspect the microusb plug of the charger to check for dirt/corrosion/deformation, and also the battery within the device: I already had intermittent problems like that caused by imperfect connections: the device was in a charging state, but no actual charging did occur. Replugging carefully after blowing on the plugs solved the problem....

From past experiences, all my HTC phones charges up with any USB cables or chargers, even my HD. So may your battery is not working some how... best thing to do is try charging it with your original charger or connect your device to your computer, it should charge up. If not, then take it back to your dealer man! I don't want to say it but maybe you have a lemon...

Hi all,
It charges well from the supplied wall charger. It also appears to be charging well from the computer. So, this leaves me to suspect the other (non HTC) charger.
Thanks for your help....
R

OK - this just getds weirder and weirder...
Yesterday, plugged into PC all day whilst I was working. After a while green light so fully charged. Went out for an hour or two and when I came back I put it on a different wall charger for a test (my old TD1 one) and after 30 mins or so green light - so fully charged again.
So, I thought - this is great, it proves the other wall charger has a problem. Before bed a few hours later I took the TD1 charger and put it in the bedroom. Plugged the TD2 into it overnight. Woke up this morning, and orange light???!!!
Put it into the computer this morning and after 15 mins - green light???
CONFUSED!!!
Could it be some function whereby it won't charge a bettery that has been charged full in the past x hours or so??? Is anyone else seeing anything like this????
R

I think you have might have a duffed battery. I think you should really check it out.

I use a Motorola universal mini-usb charger i mine car and I haven't noticed any different behavior than using the supplied HTC charger or HTC usb cable in my laptop..

I put it on the supplied charger for 12 hours and it did not charge at all despite the orange light being on. As I am within 7 days I've asked DeviceWire to refund or replace...
R

Way to go, you should get a new one!

check the connection!

First of all, yes you are.. IF the device is faulty!
from experience, I know that some cables dont charge the device.. First of all make sure there isnt some dust or stuff in the connection. secondly, try resetting the device.. If the orange light is on, then it only means some of the pins in the EXTusb connection have been shorted, my reccomendation, check the pins on the miniUSB connector on the phone, and make sure you didn't bend some.

Hey all,
No bent pins.
No dust or dirt in the socket/plug.
Tried 3 (HTC) wall chargers - all the same behaviour.
Tried resetting the device.
No luck
R

I especially used my USB-Charger this night to charge the device.
It is a Hama USB Charger (Prod# 00014095, you can find it with this on google).
It has an output of 800 mA, while the original hast 1000 mA.
But it charged up to 100% and was "green" this morning.
So it seems to work and is really Small in size
Regards Thorsten

Well, this has been a problem for me from the start and all I have used are HTC chargers. I've not had anything like this sort of issue with the previous HTC phones I've owned (and there have been a few - check sig). What confused me was that it does appear to accept charge from the USB port of a computer - which is just odd??!?!??
Anyway, I think this is unacceptable from a new product so I've asked for a refund/replacement. Awaiting a reply from Devicewire.
R

Whats weird,
My TyTn has some probs in this department.
From time to time, setting it on USB power, will not even lit the charge-light.
And it will not charge.
I have to reset it and then it works.
Dont know what that is.

DeviceWire sent me an RMA. In the meantime I hard reset the device again after confirming that the wall charger would not go above 89% charge - 9 out of 10 bars (I installed a prog to give me a % reading).
After hard reset the battery went from 89% to 100%. I am now running it down again - before I give it one last chance overnight. If I wake up tomorrow and it is still orange and at 9 of 10 bars then off it goes...
R

Fingers are crossed for you mate! Hope it goes well.

This just gets stranger - after *this* hard reset it now appears to be working as expected - woke up this morning to a green light for the first time!!
So, was this just a software thing - solved by a couple of hard resets - or might there still be a problem lurking underneath???
Problem now is that if I send it back to DW they'll confirm it is working as expected. If I wait and do not send it I run out of the 'return within 7 days for a refund' and will have to reply on HTC aftercare (horror!!).
What to do!!!???
R

I'd still return it but in your RMA notice stipulate that you suspect the problem "seems" fixed but say it might come back again and on that note are still returning it for a replacement/refund.

Repair a Hermes

All,
I'm looking for a company which is able to clean and repair my HERM300 device.
It got wet and now when I want to charge it the led turns red.....
When I leave my device on a warm radiator it works and I can use the device...
But it seems to fail when it gets colder....
Any suggestions?
Cheers and thanks,

I would like to add something, may be you already know, to red led knowledge. I have a car charger (just plain chinese USB charger with usb cable) When I connect my HERMES I could have 3 conditions: orange (charging) Nothing (not charging) or RED (?). If I soft reset, with charger connected, I ALWAYS have orange, after Windows Mobile screen, But if I disconnect and reconect I have ALWAYS No Light
connecting hermes to charger without battery also enables red light.
Charging Problems - Red Light of Death (RLOD)
Battery Charging Problems, in particular the RLOD so called because the phone refuses to charge and the red LED shows, indicating that the battery is NOT charging.
Background
Problems with charging are not HTC or Windows Mobile specific. Similar if not identical problems are reported across many models and platforms. The issues centre around the state of charge of the battery and the interpretive circuitry in the device and charger. Typically a device will show a Red light rather than an Amber charging light. (NB: RED LED always shows when battery is absent or fails to charge). see also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1076879&postcount=28
Getting the battery to start charging once this light is shown is not always straightforward and is as unpredictable and temperamental as priming a water pump (those that have done this will know what is meant). In other words, and to put it crudely, you need to kick start the system. Unfortunately those that have managed to do this have usually tried lots of things before it starts working again. This makes it hard to be absolutely certain about the solution other than perhaps the last 4 or 5 actions taken.
Those that have managed to recommence charging have not reported that the problem recurs on a frequent basis. (possible exception of in-car charging issue). This issue requires patience and time, (time maybe critical, it is possible the issue would resolve itself perhaps as charges dissipate within battery and circuitry involved). However the following points seem probable solutions and were thought to work by some who resolved the problem.
Failure to Charge (Red LED Lit when charger connected)
Causes of this problem are unclear, but in practical terms events leading up to this issue have included:
1
Leaving the phone on charge overnight (possibly but not necessarily with certain programmes or connections running) It seems a fault occurs in the charging system, which causes the battery charge to drain rather than increase. Resulting battery charge is very low. (Another Blog will be added concerning an Active Sync issue which can cause the battery to drain over-night through repeated connection attempts)
2
Through heavy use or not re-charging often enough so that the battery is permitted to reach a sub 10% charge (not precisely known but likely to be very low)
Possible Solutions:
A
1.) Remove battery
2.) Connect the phone to the charger or USB
3.) Insert the battery while connected to charger
4.) Red light should turn Amber
5.) Soft Reset
If this does not work immediately it is suggested that the battery be removed from the phone for around 1 hour and the above steps repeated.
OR
B
It has been found with some phones charging can be re-started by:
1 ) Remove battery
2 ) Connect charger (Optional. I would try this potential solution without the charger connected the first time I try this. If it fails to work then I would repeat the steps with the charger connected)
3 ) Holding the battery, line it up wiith the phone's battery contacts.
4 ) Move the battery rapidly on and off the contacts
6 ) Repeat the above until the Amber charging light comes on. So after perhaps connecting/disconnecting 20 times, insert the battery properly and give it a few seconds to see if the LED turns Amber.
7.) Soft Reset
NB: I have seen two reports where those attempting this report a fairly loud "pop" sound following which the phone began to charge. However in one case the person reported that they then had subsequent problems of signal reception on the phone and thought the popping sound may have been related to this.
OR
C
If your problems remain after trying this a few times you could always try the following to manually charge the battery a little (enough to let the phone charger circuit detect the battery is present when you put it back in)
1) Remove the battery from the phone!
2) Take 3 fresh AAA batteries in series (total 3 x 1.5V = 4.5V)
3) Connected the (+) wire to (+) on the battery
4) Connected the (-) wire to (-) on the battery
5) Hold this in place for 60 seconds.(possibly longer you are trying to charge it enough for charging circuitry to recognise there is a battery installed.
6) Put the battery in your phone
7) Switch on phone and start charging (via USB)
Hopefully you will get the Amber charging light. It may be worth repeating this a few times if not successful on the first try.
The electrical contacts are all important, poor contacts will render this a worthless exercise.
I leave it to you to decide how you connect the wires. If you have no other means you could enlist the help of someone to hold the batteries and wires together while you connect to the phone battery! Warning - Do not connect a mains based transformer to the battery with an incorrect charge rate (mAh) and voltage (V). Any attempt to force charge using mains transformers could be extremely hazardous (explosive). Only a qualified/competent person should attempt to charge the battery in this way. Similarly, even if you are using batteries to do this task, do not leave them connected for more than a few minutes and stop immediately if either set of batteries become warm.If the problem persists:The final resort - a new battery.

Very good article Mike, I linked it on the Hermes problems wiki page
i just want to add my 2 cents to this, there was an earlier post on here that mentioned the car charger deal where it wont charge unless you turn the phone off, plug it in, then turn the phone.. right now i am on my 2nd 8525 and it has done this, but its not only the car charger (cheap belkin car charger) but it sometimes does this with usb cradle i got from ebay, i have opened the cradle and there isnt anything different, its a straight usb connection, hmm except now that i think about it there is a blue LED, but it shouldnt be drawing enough current to cause this. Also i have a motorola charger in my office that i used with my wizard (i believe output is slightly different, if i remember correctly its a .5 amp where as the HTC charger is 1 amp) but it also behaves in the same manner... the only 2 methods that work constantly and consistantly of plugging in without turning off is either the factory charger, or a regular usb cable on the pc..
just seems weird since all of these problematic situations worked fine on the wizard and i believe they both have the power requirements...
let me toss another idea in the fire here on this, something that just occured to me... i wonder if this somehow could be related to the factory installed driver for this. what made me think of this is how the battery meter only goes by 10%.. could this funky driver be the source of the problem?

If your cradle is not connected to your PC, or if your PC is off while you see the behaviour you described, then the likely reason is that pin 4 of the Mini USB connector isn't grounded on both your car charger and cradle. See here for more details.

cradle is connected to pc at all times, and i will deal with the car charger for now cause my HTC one should be arriving any week now, but thanks for the tip!
8525 (hermes) Charging may be voltage sensitive
I have noticed with my new 8525 (USA Cingular model of phone) that it came with a 5.5V charger. Whenever I connect to a 5.0 V USB source charging the phone is very "iffy". Given that the standard for USB is 5.0 V (4.75 - 5.25) there is a problem with the design. My question for the HTC crowd is can this be fixed via a ROM change or are we stuck with a bad design?

Since you got it wet, it is most likely not covered by the warranty, these and the numbers for out of warranty repair if you live in the U.S. I know that for cingular, you have to ship it to them yourself, and they will charge you a $28 diagnostic fee, before telling you how much is costs to fix the problem (if they even can)
heh here almost the same, providers are charging ~$29.5 USD as diagnostic fee but they are more polite, they first tell estimated costs, and only ask for the sum if you (usually) don't order the repair but need back your phone
Hellejoep:
if you are willing to send it abroad (inside EU) and you are either not need "overnight return" or such nonsense or cover the extra costs such operations really need, you may contact me. no diagnostics fee or anything such (though you will have a small loss.
about the charging problem:
the same issue occurs also in Wizard/Prophet, and Charmer (compactII) as well. though not in Magician, even so that they share the exactly same battery.
I believe it must have something to do with the charging controller. I don't have a disassembled unit at home with me now, but I suppose it should be a crap companion chip from Texas, to be interfaced with the ever-worst TI OMAP platform
(sorry, no hard feelings, pals, but someone using such one as an actual everyday phone must have some sorta mental problem )
strange battery issue
Hi all,
I've a similar issue with any charger.
It happened first with car charger (one cradle with an usb output): sometimes it charged, most of all it charged only when power was off.
Now I cannot charge with any method. (those described here: battery charging problems)
Usb cable (it's not original), original power supply, even with the y cable.
When i try to charge, it drain battery (i tried with a new one) and amber led blinks slowly instead to be firmly light.
There's anything I can do?
It's a SPV M3100 buyed two months ago on ebay.
I tried also with two roms WM6 official release ITA ver and Schap's 3.54b ITA ROM WM6
radio 1.48
Any suggestions?
Herm200/tytn problems
hi to all,
i read most of your post on possible problems with this PDA (HERM200/HTC TYTN).
i'll try to spent some few words to explain the story around my pda.
i live in italy and i bought the TYTN on december 2006 and for 6 months with his software problems i used it day by day in my business activity, untill one day, it falled down the ground from my and with all the leather cover (bundled with the pda, an hard black belt cover); then i took it and picked up a telephone number from my addres book and then putted it in charge for all the night; when, late in the morning, i took it, i noted that there was still the red light of the battery indicator and then PDA didn't turned on.
i tried to make soft/hard reset but nothing.
I carried to the italian warranty service of HTC and after 7 days they deliver to me the PDA in the same state that i carried; on the technical report there was: pcb damaged, battery connector pinouts damaged, pda not Repairable - out of warranty.
i thought: "i have had a lot of care for this PDA that still look like as new one"
and now i have a 700€ of unusefull PDA.
Last day i finally decided to open my PDA to find broken pieces and more.... but nothing.... i observed really well: NOTHING of wrong.
Now i will to know if somebody of you, can suggest me something to revive my PDA or suggest me any service center (affidable) in europe (not like the italian one) where to send it for maintenance: I DONT WANT TO THROW OUT MY PDA!
Thank you in advance for your attention and patience.
ps: sorry for my english, i hope it will be comprehensive.

If I understood you correctly, your TyTN still works - it just cannot charge the battery, right?
Then, probably one of the cheapest (although not perfect) solutions is to get a cradle that can charge a battery outside the TyTN (like this one on eBay). You will have to power down your TyTN, remove the battery and put it in the cradle every other night or so, so it's not very convenient. But it's cheap. Maybe you'll want to keep this as "plan B" in your mind while you look for a more perfect solution.

Hello!
I had also a battery charging problems with my MDA Vario II (TyTN; Hermes; HERM300):
1. Charging from the AC mains supply with the original miniUSB 5V charger: no problems.
2. Charging in the car with the non-original car lighter miniUSB 5V charger: it was charged only when the phone was OFF; no charging when the phone was ON.
3. Charging with the USB-miniUSB 5V cable connected to the notebook: it is charging only when the phone is OFF; no charging when the phone is ON.
So I asked myself: what is the difference between all these three cases? They are all miniUSB 5V power sources... And I found out an answer: It should be a matter of the USB current amperage.
Original AC miniUSB 5V charger delivered with the phone is 5V/ 1A. When I have bought the car 5V miniUSB charger with the 1A (one amper) amperage - there is no problem with car battery charging anymore... ;-) The phone is charged either way: ON or OFF.
But is it possible to charge the battery correctly from the notebook? I think not, because I have no influence on the current value from the 5V notebook USB.
Previously I had MDA Vario (Wizard): in this phone there were no battery charging problems... I wonder why the are some with the Hermes...
Take care,
Przemo

This is not correct. The problem is well understood and has been discussed several times.
The key is that your device tries to sense what it is connected to:
- if there is USB data traffic, it concludes that it is connected to a computer. It will then negotiate the current (power) it can draw from the USB port with that computer.
- otherwise, your device checks if pin 4 of the connector is pulled to ground. If yes, it concludes that is is connected to a dedicated USB charger, and starts charging, consuming as much power as it needs. This mechanism seems to work only if the device is on - and sometimes not even then (bug?). I guess the mechanism is implemented in software, so it can't function when it is off.
- otherwise, it doesn't know what it's connected to. Could be a computer in stand-by that didn't power off its USB ports or something. Your device concludes it may be unwise to start charging (could, for example, drain the other device's battery).
The cheap after-market chargers do not connect pin 4 to ground (pin 5), so your device doesn't charge. If you are really good with a soldering iron, try connecting pins 4 and 5 of the charger's USB connector, and you'll see that your device will start charging with it.

Happens to me ocasionally.
Try a softreset and it will charge again.
Happens to me all the time...
Can it be connected to the fact that some applications crash and leave the system unstable ?
I did soft and hard reset, but it won't charge. Now the phone is dead, i am in the process of arranging funeral with HTC. I email HTC, have not heard from them yet.
May your P3600 rest in peace...and be quickly replaced (maybe only the battery pack...)
My phone is acting very weird too. I charged it up, left it overnight. Turned it on in the morning, it was at 90%, after about 3 minutes of wifi, it was at 80%.
Charing - need 500mah
Make sure that you're using the right charger - I was using accessories from my Dopod 818 Pro - the P3600 would say it was charing, but wasn't actually -because we need a 500mah instead of 250mah (or some such).

Did anyone get anywhere with this? Been a while and no updates.
My GF uses my old Orange SPV M700 as a GPS in the car, and plays solitaire.
It started to drain really quickly then it refused to charge at all.
I figured the battery had died, so bought a cheap compatible to check it was that.
The cheap compatible came 80% charged, but after two hours of charging, while switched on, battery was showing 70%
I've tried both the original HTC charger and the motorola charger that came with my Bluetooth headset.
Neither seem to work, does it sound like a soft reset might help, or does it sound like the phone is kippered.
I'm not an Orange customer any more (They wouldn't do me a good deal on an Omnia), and it is only as a SatNav/PDA rather than phone, so while it would be no mad loss if is dead, SWMBOd doesn't want to spend out on anything to replace it.
I problem with mine was the mainboard, and it had to be replaced.
If yours still has warranty, deliver it to a repair center.
If not, you have to find a way to charge the battery on another device...

I guess I'm looking for an external battery cradle and then and keeping a spare battery charged.
I think the phone is nearly 2 years old and out of contract
Just a quick update.
Both the motorola and htc USB chargers I have are both full 550miliamp usb chargers.
When plugged in the led goes from solid red, to flashing orange, temporarily to solid orange then a low battery warning, might be fine for 5 minutes or half an hour, then cycles back to solid red and arround again.

X1 charges from PC not from charger

Hi - my first post.
I have a charging problem not unlike that posted by Jurgensen on 25.11.08.
My X1 will no longer charge from a USB charger when it is turned on. It will only charge from a wall socket charger when turned off. Neither will it charge from a car socket or additional battery (Proporta type).
But, when I charge from a PC - whether it is synched to the X1 or not - the phone charges when it is turned on.
I have had had my X1 for a couple of months and this has only just started happening.
I admit that I have used different chargers and leads, apart from the SE supplied one, perhaps I have caused some damage doing this. I have tried using 4 different USB chargers and various different leads, but no go.
One coincidence is that it started happening the day I loaded VistaHide battery gauge - which seems very good. I have tried deleteing that file, but it does not make any difference.
I have just installed the latest UK O2 firmware, but no change.
Any help and suggestions gratefully received.
John.
In settings>system>power is the "when device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connecting to the pc" box unchecked? Just a thought...
As you have flashed the phone its unlikely to be a software or settings problem. And different mains and car adapters dont work its most likely to be a fault with the phone.
Phone O2 and ask for repair/replacement?
same problem as mine!
i told them just back my freaking phone! so i got it back UNREPAIRED!
I did not buy a 800$ phone so i can use it 1 month, 2 month, or 1 year later!

charge problem
i have the same charging problem. I must turn off the phone to charge from the car OR wall charger. It does charge from the USB PC connection.
When I plug it in to the wall, the display DOES get brighter. But the illumination lights don't go on nor the battery charging icon. If I turn off the phone, the illumination lights DO work when hooked up to charger.
Did anyone find out what the problem is?
I did find something that suggested maybe the battery isn't tight, but I tried several time to reseat the battery. This all started sometime after I had to take out the battery because the phone froze.
I have done a hard reset AND even did a software update getting the new software but the problem is still there.
it' a hardware problems.
and Sony Ericsson is a SCUM, after they got your money, they dont give a ****!
i sent my phone in for repair, they gave me the same BS excuess everytime, "we waiting on parts, and we have no idea when parts available".
u the manufacturer and u have "no ideas when parts available"??
ok, htc made the phone, how hard is it to give them a call and ask them??

HD2 Died - Power Problem

Thats right.. last night i left my Leo charging, today when i woke up i noticed that the battery level was very low so.. i unplugged it and plugged it again, noticed that the orange led wasnt lighting up, neither was the phone charging.
The phone gets very very very hot when plugged to charger or USB port on my computer and does not charge at all.
Tried it all, left it all day long with the battery out of the phone, tried charging without it in.. and nothing..it just gets very hot where the connectors (pins) make contact with the battery.
Now im trying to charge the battery on a cradle to flash it with stock rom and SPL to get it to warranty..
Any of you guys has any thoughts?
I see i posted in the wrong section.
Thank u mod
Do you always charge via usb into pc? Is your cradle plugged into the wall or pc? I don't know if you have done this, probably so, but check in windows settings->system->Power and inside the battery tab see if the "When phone is on, do not charge the battery when connected to a PC" is checked.

Yeah.. it crossed my mind to check for it, and that option is unchecked.
Though the charging "orange" led doesnt turn on even if the phone is off.
I usually charge it via usb->pc, allthough i tested with the wall charger and nothing.
I suspect it must have been a power surge that burnt in some way the PBC of the "charging module..thing"
Thanks for the suggestion
i'd check that none of the pins for the battery are in contact with each other if there is heat in that area.
Ok, I'm assuming then that the phone works, but just has low battery at the moment. If that's the case then it doesn't appear to be the battery or the leads. Any chance it's the cable? That of course assumes your using the same one with the cradle. I ask because my device didn't come with a wall charger, just a usb cable so I had to get a few extra plus a wall plug-in with a usb port.

Weird, but unfortunately it didn't. I think being in the US and getting the device from Telstra in Australia may be why I didn't. Well, if it is a hardware problem and you can't get it to charge from the device, I believe you can get a cradle that will allow you to charge the battery independant of the phone. I know it's not the best option on the planet, but it would get your battery where it needs to be to flash and confirm whether or not it's a charging issue with the battery itself.
Come to think of it, this did happen to me several weeks ago. I plugged the phone in before bed as usual and noticed the charging light didn't go on and the battery drained overnight from about 60% to 15%, which it shouldn't have done. Not in standby at least. Soft-reset the next day fixed it. It hasn't done it since. I was installing a bunch of things that evening, which may have been what did it.
I had a same problem with my hd2 and by some miracle and few days of pain
it workd again...and it workd about 5 days and same thing happend al over again...and I think I have solution!
It may be stupid but it work for me...
try to connect your hd2 to charger but without battery and then insert the battery and it should start up your phone and charging...
I apologizes for my poor english

HELP > Battery Is Not Charging at all (Via WallCharger / Computer USB)

Damn it..... i dont know what happened
it is still working perfectly yesterday
i did not drop the phone or battery, today the battery is still at 40% and as usual, before i went to sleep, i plug my phone on the USB Cable connected to my computer... but it is not charging.. and here i thought the error comes from my USB Cable , so i plug it into my wall charger ... but it is not charging at all!!!
and i thought, perhaps i have installed something , or some os faulty issue ... so i reset the phone via SETTINGS > About > Reset Phone
and after the reset.. it is still not charging...
argh what should i do... please help... anyone
i purchased this phone from singapore.. and i am indonesian.... the battery is currently at 30% , i am so afraid after it runs out of its juice, it will go away forever (because i cant charge it) T.T
what should i do....
(Is this battery and the one used on Galaxy S is the same? My sister has Galaxy S, should i try using her battery and try to charge it from my phone? .... ARGHHHH the omnia 7 is not even available yet in indonesia) T.T
Anyone help T.T
Get another charger it will charge get a new 1
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
you sure it is the charger?
You are talking about the wallcharger right?
usually it already charging via USB Connected to a computer.. but this time... the computer does not even detect if anything is connected.... (nothing happened when i plug this phone to my pc, usually there is a notification sound playing and my zune will autorun)...
damn it ... why this happened.. yesterday it is just fine (
damn it .. i am sleepy already..
i will go and sleep for now.. and left my phone turned off and plugged in the WallCharger
and hopefuly.... sigh.. it is still charing although no indication whatsoever is showing that
MAN... should i just try bang the damn battery hard onto the table... perhaps some of the chip inside the battery is misplaced by whatever unknown forced?!
damn it.. i never dropped the phone.... ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH
this is so frustrating
Relax
Relax man your charger is bad.
I have the same problem but my girlfriend have a Wave and start using his charger and everything works fine.
Buy a new charger
question
can i use any charger from any phone for this Omnia 7?
(the one that has USB Output of course, such as xperia1 charger)
if we can, then it is also not working.... and why suddenly it wont do anything when i plugged it in my Computer USB
the very same computer works perfectly yesterday, and suddenly it is not working..
I suspect either one of these is the problem :
1. the micro USB Connector in the Phone is broken somehow , hence the when we plugged it on, it does nothing
2. the Battery (which if i am not mistaken has a chip inside) is broken, hence explain why it is not charging at all (which a bit does not make any sense, if it is just not charging at least when i plug it on the computer, it should still detect this device...)
I am from indonesia, i can ask my friend who is returning from melbourne to purchase a new battery and new charger hopefuly
Okay to make things simpler.. i have a sister who own a Galaxy S
can i use the galaxy s wallcharger to charge my omnia 7? ah hell,i will try it anyway...
okay according to this
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-I917ZKAATT
it goes great with galaxy s standard battery...
so i suspect, i can use my sister galaxy s standard battery and try to charge it using my cellphone
and i can also try to use my sister galaxy s wallcharger to charge my battery...
okay lets try ... hopefuly.... it is only the battery.. i can easily purchase a new battery... if it is the USB Connector on the phone... damn, how on this green earth can i charge my battery? OH we can use the kickstand battery charger?
hmm suddenly it is working now :O
thanks God... hopefuly it will never ever happened again T.T
Great it is working again
Any possibility that there is a way that the device forces a full recharge cycle to calibrate the battery?
Honestly i guess so.
I have the same problem...i can t charge my i8700 at all...what did you do to charge again???...i use a universal charger where i put my battery ...this happens for two weeks now..

Try allowing the phone to run out of battery and turns off, then plug it into the charger, i would love to know if this is a failure or be design behavior.
Put the battery in the phone,
Wait untill the phone goes completely off.
Plug the phone to the wall charger.
write back here
i tryed this but the same problem it turns on but only while the charger is pluged in when i pull it out the phone turns off...i try to hard reset nothing..there is no update to work with non retail devices...the phone is from three uk...i m from romania there is no way to return there to an service..(
Having the same problem. Been working flawlessly.Plugged it in a couple of hours ago,but it doesnt appear to be charging.
When I use the USB charger on the PC, it is recognised, and Zune opens up fine and Phone shows up.
Have tried two Mains chargers, the Omnia 7 one and the one that came with my Galaxy S, same problem.
EDIT:
Left it plugged in overnight and it charged fine.Used phone, going down to about half battery.Plugged it in and seems to be charging without a problem!
I've got the same problem as you guys for a couple of days now.
Thanks for your reactions i will try everyone of them untill my omnia 7 charges again

Do you have a bit of battery left?
Windows Phone 7 devices power up when you plug them in. Maybe the OS is not booting and because it is S-AMOLED display we cannot tell if it is on or not.
Try Hard Resetting without booting WP7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Omnia_7
Make sure you have a bit of power though, you don't want that to stop in the middle of the proccess
This has happened to me a couple of times. I think it's just a reporting bug, the battery is actually charging. I just have to restart the phone and it magically has charge
battery is charging too long
How long does take to fully charge the battery? For me it's about 4-5 hours with wall charger. Should not it be faster?
Mine is about the same for a full charge and I have also noticed my Omnia 7 not charging properly when I plug it into my MacBook Air however it does seem to charge fine on my Dell laptop for work.
Maybe the Omnia 7 is very sensitive for charging over USB on a laptop and needs a certain voltage for it to charge properly?
What works for me:
1. Original charger
2. iPhone 4 charger
3. iPhone 3GS charger
4. Blackberry Curve charger
Not tried any other micro-usb cables yet but will do at some point in the future.
I had the same problem too. The battery was suspiciously showing high levels for the last three days (went without a charge!). In the morning, the alarm did not go off, and I realised the battery was dead dead! Charged (wall charger) for 1.5 h without any use -- would turn off if I unplugged. Tried with the USB cable too (connecting to computer) and no use.
I read this post, and tried with the wall charger again, and it shows me ~60% battery, and seems to be charging normally!
Will post an update, but really seems like a forced discharge cycle to me too!!
Thanks for this thread, and I am interested in seeing if any more ppl are seeing such issues!
At least once, but sometimes twice a week, my battery keeps discharging while my Omnia 7 is attached to USB. And even the icon shows it should be charging.
The solution I use is taking the battery out for 10-15 seconds, put it back in, switch the device on, and charging works like it should be.
I hope they come up with a solution, because it's quite annoying.
