Menu titles are invisible but working - XPERIA X1 General

The programs coming from earlier WM versions are fully functional but the menu titles in the bottom bar do not show off.
However when you click on them , the menu appears.(See VisualGPSce for example).
I have tried to change the resolution but the problem remains.
I have not found this problem listed in the forums but I know that it is common as I have seen such programs with a blank bottom bar in some tests.
Any idea ? Thanks !

Yep I got that too. Was a bit worried at first but I think there's a registry key somewhere that can be altered. Just can't remember where!! However if I do remember i'll post it (or possibly someone else will remember before I do...)
It's not a problem as long as I can remember what menu option is where....

Menu titles
Use Raiisak´s Flatbar Black cab when you use Xperia black theme like me and don´t forget rename xperia black theme to defaul.tsk and activate default.tsk in settings today... work fine for me... old trick from my old Hermes time

I just cheated with mine - did a registry edit on the Xperia Black theme!
HKCU\\Software\Microsoft\Today\XPERIA Black.tsk
changed the value in "Color_CommandbarText" to 55,55,55,00
Bit of a "fiddle" but it works fine for what I needed! I may try 77,77,77,00 and see if that's still useable
you have to reset the device as soon as you've updated the value or it doesn't appear to want to stick.....

Dissappearing dialer skin after changing today skin

I have a dutch HTC P4350 and I hate the green today theme.
But when I change the today theme, the device asks for a soft reser and when its again up and running the dailer skin has disappeared.
I only have grey buttons which are ugly (imho).
Has anybody this problem?
Can it be fixed?
I was thinking that the problem is a invalid link in the registry to the default dailer theme because when I restore the original htc green today theme, also the dailer is restored (after a soft reset.)
Can someone help me???

I have this problem also. I have tried two hard resets and nothing works.
Can't say I've ever used the skin, so don't know what it's doing, but the long way around might be to get the .tsk file (the theme) and decompile it with WinCE Cab manager to see what registry settings it's changing.
Then just ensure that those registry keys stay as they should after changing the theme.

Hmm, decompiling the tsk file, seems to be difficult.
I spoke to HTC support, but they don't know the problem exist.
Think it's a bug in the rom or ext rom because I have no problem with my HTC P3600.

On my HTC Herald (p4350) the Smart Dialer Application skin has a light gray background and the text (caller/callee, elapsed time, etc.) is in white and therefore barely readable.
I changed the following key
HKLM/Software/HTC/?PhoneCanvas/Task0
in that I changed the value of the REG_DWORDs
DIALER/portrait/text:textColor
DIALER/landscape/text:textColor
from their default value FFFFFF (hex) to 000000 (hex). That changed the color of the text from white to black in both orientation modes (after soft reset).
I tried it on my brand new device and dont have this problem. I changed to the standard windows theme and I got a grey dialerskin (with smart dialing working)
Smart Dialing
I had a problem with the HTC Dialler skin disabling the smart dialling. After reading many forums i gave up on trying to get that particular skin working and opted for one of these http://www.zombienexus.net/portal/GH_ShowArticle.asp?HID=35&CATID=1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8|9|10|11|12 The black skin is a little too black for my liking and was overriding the "HTC new theme". I just changed to another theme and back again and hey presto, colour scheme as I wanted it AND my smart dialler working. Haven't looked at the memory usage yet but seems to work fine after the initial wait on first use.

Enlarge your today screen (how to remove the bottom menu bars)

If you're looking to get rid of the menu bar at the bottom of the Today Screen, read on. This is not a new tip, but might save you time, as there's a lot of different versions of these programs flying around. Only the one below works on WM6 / HTC Touch.
I personally find that the Menu Bars at the bottom of the Today Screen really spoil the look of the HTC Touch's sleek black/grey theme. Besides, the Comm Manager and Contacts are both accessible via the spinning cube (or the camera button if you install Double Launcher) so there's no need to have on the Today Screen, you may as well get more space for plugins, or just to keep everything looking neat and tidy. See screenshot below!
Here's how to banish them forever (?!) :
1. Download ToggleTodayIIAlpha from this link:

2. Copy it to your \Windows\Startup directory. (or somewhere else and paste a shortcut instead)
3. Go into the registry and edit this key:
HKLM/Software/Vijay555/VJTodayToggle

Softkeysize = 1
StartSize = 26
TrayVisible = 1
That's it! I've had no massive problems with this so far, although I haven't been testing it for too long. I'd be interested to hear how people get on in terms of stability/bugs. You WILL get problems if you try to use any of the older VJTodayToggle programs in the thread on this forum:

A: If you want to make your screen even neater AND still overclock your Touch, then, in step 3 above, you can make TrayVisible=0 then you can minimise the BatteryStatus plugin and it won't show up on your today screen. (right click on batterystatus icon, choose 'show rows -> minimise') I haven't tested this properly yet.
B: If you want to explore hiding the Start Menu, feel free, it looks superb when you first do it, but then I have found that the HTC biotouch (spinning cube) automatically re-instates the start menu bar when it's deactivated each time.
C: Please note, this program ( tt2.exe) DOES NOT TOGGLE, even though it's called that! Again, it's a 39 page thread, I warned you...
D: You can also run TT2.exe with a -config option to avoid editing the registry, but this would actually make the above even more long-winded to explain to any n00bs.

Good luck! The honest truth is that after I'd posted this, I discovered a couple of bugs that appeared in soak testing. I gave up in the end - it worked 90% but I would still occasionally get conflict, e.g. the SIP keyboard would appear at the top of the screen sometimes and only a soft reset would put it back where it was meant to be!

Yep I confirm that, SIP keyboard is there, and sometimes as well softkeys stay there after softreset.
Well actually for me it's even worse, it's hiding the system tray (the bar just above the softkeys bar) where we can add shortcuts icons and keep the softkeys bar enabled..
Im disappointed but thks for vijay555 for all the efforts

See my original post, have you tried setting TrayVisible=1 in the registry, this should show the system tray.
I followed exactly what u posted, it displayed it correctly the first time, then after soft reset it was displaying only the softkeys bar and hiding the system tray bar

How does this look on screens BESIDES the today screen? I have used other programs on different WM phones in the past and although the bottom bar disappears on the today screen, it is still on other screens.
Also, can you use the bottom of the screen or is it just dead space? Some of us have moved the HTC Home Plug to the bottom of the page and if it is just dead space, it is going to look bad....

The menu bar is visible on other screens, this behaviour is by design. I cannot see why anybody would want it invisible on other screens, as you normally need those softkeys for menus in most programs!
As far as I know you can use the bottom of the screen, it is not dead space. But why not try it out - it's unlikely to do any harm. You can always delete it from your startup directory to uninstall if you don't want it.

I can't remember if the TrayVisible setting even works - I think it was something I was intending to build in, but never got around to it.

I installed this, but I don't know how to get into the registry from an .exe file, so I just tried to open the file through my phone, and instead it has hidden my start bar, as well as the bottom bar. How do I reverse this???

How did you "move" the HTC Home plugin to the bottom part of the Today-screen without any plugin above it? I searched all over the forums, but I cannot find the answer to this question

Use the HTC Home customizer to "unlock" it. Then you can move it around like normal.
However, it doesn't redraw correctly on the right side if you unlock it, and a scrollbar comes and goes.
i have a other solution!! PCM shrink installe it and your bar remove it s very easier! For become to the original config juste delete the programmz!!

Hi..very nice and easy Zip File..just one problem: the toggle won't stick after a soft reset = one has to go into File Explorer..double click the Toggle File and only than the screen is "clean" again.
Any way to make the toggle "stick"?
I have not this problem! I install the cab i going on the explorer and today shrink and clik on after i reboot my pda ans the bar not appear ... You can try put a abbreviated of today skrink in WINdows/started for star the application automatic on windows sartup

hide bottom/softkey bar when sip active??

ive been trying to figure out how to do this for a loooong time. i use pcm keyboard with an iphone skin and its HUGE. it plus the bottom bar take up more than half the screen. plus its easier to type/know where the letters are if the keyboard is all the way on the bottom. i use a hardware key to toggle the sip so i don't need the bottom bar to disable the sip. anybody know if its physically possible to hide the bottom bar when the sip is active (or make the sip cover the bottom bar)???

if anyone is interested in this i might have some info you might find useful:
when i use the attached .tsk file, the behaviour of my tob and bottom bars becomes completely unpredictable. basically i end up with a combination one of the following combinations:
-normal topbar
-no topbar
-"transparent" topbar (so that i see the top few pixels of my spb mobile shell theme)
and..
-normal bottom bar
-no bottom bar
-bottom bar on which the keyboard overlays (when activated) << this is the original desired effect!
see the attached images for examples
i can't just keep this theme because behaviour is unpredictable and sometimes causes freezing. Also, choosing a different theme returns the bars to normal behaviour.
other info: i have t-mobile wing and use an open touch v6 rom, spb mobile shell w/ a greatbal diamond theme, and s2u2.

vijay555 made an tool called today toggle that did that on the today screen (I don't know if it hid the softkeys when the today screen did not have focus). It was originally written for WM2003. I have not seen much about it in a long time. Try checking his website http://www.vijay555.com
i did read alot about VJ's todaytoggle but i assumed and other people confirmed that it only works on the today screen. i guess ill play around with it when i get a chance and report back here

VJToggle only hides on today screen. I wish someone can come up with a way of hiding these things other than today screen!

Problem with Volumeoverlay

I am experiencing a rather frustrating problem here. When I change the volume in HTC's audiomanager, it appears a grey column on the left side of the screen (see pic) instead of the green overlay in the middle of the screen as it should be.
What is the problem here and how can I solve this? IMHO, there is a PNG missing. But where do I find that PNG and where should that be stored on my device?

It seems that by installing A_Brians WM6.5 Taskbar gfreek edition, I did change HTCVolumeControl.dll.
I will try to change it back to the original DLL.
OK, I have reinstalled the original DLL from the ROM using SKTools, after changing HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\OverlayUI from 0 to 1 the grey column has disappeared, but the overlay stays also disapeared.
I'm having the same problem. I think it has something to do with the custom taskbar you have installed. I installed a custom taskbar myself and it caused my music volume graphic to disappear too. I beleive it has something to do with HTCVolumeControl.dll which has been changed. I re-installed it but it made no difference. If anyone has a solution to this, it would be much appreciated.

Well I simply gave up after long horus of REG tweaking and changing files from the ROM and from the internet to get it back.
I hard resetted the Phone yesterday and voila, the volume overlay is back. It's an awfully dirty procedure, because I spent half of the night and a few hours today to get all Programs and Settings back. Unfortunately I had only backed up the whole system (including that overlay problem), so the backup was not very helpful at all.
I remember reading, I think its to do with that taskbar you have installed, I had it and had the same problem, now I dont (hard resetted) and my music bar is sorted
I uninstalled the taskbar. No change.
Then I tried to get HTCVolumeControl.DLL back from ROM, no change.
I treid to install a HTCVolumeControl.DLL from the Internet, no change. Well, there was a change here. I had WM Volume control suddenly. You know, the black and white control bars at the top right corner we all remeber from WM5.
Then I gave up.

The english is fine, better than my Deutsch!
It depends on your ROM version. The stock ROM has an HTC icon, sort of a downwards arrow, that shows up only on the Today screen. It is controlled by the stock WM task manager icon in the Settings / System screen. Hope this helps.
BTW, I use Arkswitch, and it is really nice - although it is not really optimum of you are using WM 6.5. It works best on WM 6.5.x.

My Energy ROM does not have the default WM Task Manager in the Settings / System area, so I cannot use the icon of which you are speaking.
Arkswitch is a task switcher. It sets up an area of the screen that you touch to control the tasks. On the WM 6.5.x, the start menu is on the bottom left. On the earlier versions, the start button is on the upper left, which makes Arkswitch a bit more difficult - the activation area defaults to the upper left area of the task bar.
Yes, that is the icon indicator that HTC puts up on the home page only. If clicked, it shows all running programs, plus has three icons at the top, I don't recall what they do - one of them was battery, I think. If your version of WM supports it, you can control it via the Settings / System / Task Manager icon - assuming that the program you installed did not change this icon in some fashion.
I am not to sure what your asking for but here is a cab that will install that task manager. Install to your device and then soft reset. It will put that task manager with that icon in the upper right corner. I hope this helps you.

i guess he simply don´t like that icon for the taskmanger. It seems all he want to do is to exchange that icon with a more suitable icon.
And because he don´t know where the picture information is stored (maybe in a dll-file or an exe.file) he asks for help.
