Just to let you people know I think the BT issue was FIXED in this new ROM R2A
It's been 48 hours and my Bluetooth is still on, paired with a couple of devices and all OK to date. Will report if something else happens but in the meantime I think is OK
Edit: Is NAM ROM R2A

ive never had a problem with my bluetooth turning off on my x1a except once in a while when i have wifi turn on and the phone comes out of sleep mode.
do you have a problem with bluetooth turning off with wifi on and the phone coming out of sleep mode.

Tested. No problem.
BT kept active after waking up with WiFi connected to my network.

You bet we are ALL waiting for the UK 2 LOL
In the mean time, let's follow the link in my sgnatue and VOTE FOR THE XPERIA !!

That is excellent!!!! It was getting quite annoying having the bluetooth turn off mid call. Unfortunately my benchmarks are lower with this new ROM.

Anyone can try SPB Benchmark with R2A?
So we can see how is better.

Seriously? Install the Vodafone UK updated ROM. Believe me... it is worth it! Speed improvements, performance improvements, stability, and so on. you'll just have to set up your network settings in order to use 3G or GPRS with ur device afterwards: http://xperiancer.blogspot.com/2009/01/setting-up-your-network-rom-update.html

I think the problem still exists, but the behaviour is better. No more sound via the phone.
When making a call all goes well. The sound is going via the BT carkit (Nokia ck-7w). After I end the call via the phone (via the nokia button is NOT working), it takes abount 1.5 minutes and then the nokia carkit connection led goes off. Pushing the button for a second and the connection is back within a second.
This shoudn't happen imho.
I have the VFE R2 rom since 2 days btw...

Hmmm... this is car-kit dependant because my bluetooth integration with my car's on-board stock bluetooth is flawless, I just love the way it does it all automatically (even my phone or SIM contacts, lost calls etc display in the car's screen)

Lol no prob but why doesn't it work on R2A firmware? The tnynnt SD TuneUp? man these read and read speeds are like epic lower than usual. Maybe we should ask tnynnt to see if he can write like a new version of the cab and help with the speeds? I also uninstalled and re-installed tnynnt SD TuneUp and saw that it still does speed up the speeds. Without tnyynt sd tuneUp it's like :
Main storage (write);1025.32;KB/sec
Main storage (read);4256.45;KB/sec
Storage Card (write); 249.57;KB/sec
Storage Card (read);4597.97;KB/sec
So it still works, but not as good as we wished it should.
Help us out tnyynt!!!

from the official sony ericsson blog
The new ROM (version 1.02.931.3) speeds up the load time, updates the 3D drivers, adds a Google search bar to the default home screen and fixes the problem with Bluetooth. (note: as we’ve not had any problems with Bluetooth here, I can’t guarantee that this is right, but according to reports elsewhere, it is.)
is there a way to chack for the 3d drivers?

Tom Tom 6 and Artemis. Initial Impressions.

Tom Tom 6 and Artemis. Hoping my Initial Impressions may help someone.
Hi,
I'm a newbie... not up to the high standards of others here. But I thought it might be useful to give a newbies initial impressions on running TomTom 6 (application+DVD) on an Artemis.
I ordered TomTom from TomTom online. They quoted up to 5 weeks, but it took 5 days to get the DVD which contains application and Europe map and I received my TomTom 6 this afternoon and loaded it on my XDA Orbit with no real problems. (See below)
This goes against the advice of TomTom who say that it is not supported yet.
I started by resetting the XDA Orbit clean, which obliterated CoPilot.
TomTom 6 installed easily from the installation DVD.
Using the application software, I put the main program in the memory of the XDA, but put the maps and extra bits on a 2GB card. I was nervous about buying a 4gb or larger card , and so purchased a CNEX Flash format program to give me better control of what was happening on the Flash card.
The program installs on the PC first, and shows a split screen showing what's available to you on the left (e.g. DVD) and what's on your Artemis on the right (Memory & Flash card).
Registering was easy, but if you elect to pay for the Traffic reports etc, it's advisory to read the instructions to avoid losing out on the free month.
Finally, I downloaded John Cleese's voice at 10 Euros, since I'm a Python fan. This is nice.
Comparing it to CoPilot some issues struck me.
Good News?
-----------
First,It seems to be working well.
To my mind the range of TomTom extras seems huge and well developed. Colours, maps, layouts, voices. Good stuff.
I don't get CoPilot starting up at every opportunity.. like incoming calls. (Yes I've disabled the button)
I'll add to this thread anything I discover.
Problems?
----------
First, TomTom does not have an 'Exit' in the program like CoPilot. This was/is a pain.
No doubt I'll discover an answer from some helpful soul soon.
I press the red phone icon when in TomTom which brings up the XDA's menu. I can then I'm select Memory, Programs in use, and hit it over the head with a mallet.
It does raise the question what happens if someone rings me? More investigation needed.
Secondly, Tom Tom does not have a menu structure. You just touch the map which brings up options via icons. It works, but was/is not intuitive for me as CoPilot was.
I think I prefer the 2d direction maps of CoPilot to the 3D of TomTom. But it's early days.
General
-------
I have always had low Satellite reception on my XDA Orbit. Particularly in my house. CoPilot vsTomTom made no difference. In the car reception worked fine even with a heated front windscreen.
I've still got some ferreting around to do. I want to increase the warning distance from 200metres for one thing. I've also got to find out about the Traffic Alerts and how it works and can suggest rerouting etc.
All the best.
Hello!
It's obviuos you're quite new to TT, since there is an exit-button in TT, well it's somehow misplaced but it's there. When TT shows the map -> tap on the screen -> hit the next page button twice -> voila the exit button.
To edit the menu to your likings you can build your own TT menu. Onlineversion & Offlineversion. Just to make things clear the TomTom.mnu belongs in \TomTom\SdkRegistry
It does'nt make a difference if you use TT or another GPS-capable software in terms of GPS reception it depends only on the location your are roaming in (and I must say I'm more then positiv suprised with the quality of the GPS chip compared to all other devices I had before). Every software gets the same data from the Orbits inbuild GPS chip (well if you are intend to try MN6 it is likely you will experince problems with the positioning but it's cause MN6 is running slow as hell)

There are hundreds of pois out there for TT for almost every thing, some are free and some are...well...search the internet.

What exactly do you wanna know? The GPS reception or MN6?
I've taken a look at MN6 about 2 weeks ago and it was not usable in any way. Navigating through the menu was horrible slow and from what I've heard from others it gives voice instructions way too late, just when you have passed destination/turnings. Also calculating the route is very slow.
I had the chance to test MN6 on a PNA (Transonic 6000) the other week and even on this kind of device it was not running that well but much much better than on my Artemis.

QUESTION:
-----------
Can you tell me whether the slowness etc is due to the software or is it something else?
I notice a thread about TomTom and T-Mobile MDA Compact 3 and it seems to run ok on that. Isn't the T-Mobile MDA Compact 3 roughly the same as my Orbit is is it the operator making a difference?
QUESTION:
-----------
Any tips to watch out for about running TomTom on the Orbit?
e.g. can for example the Artemis be overclocked and resolve some of these weaknesses ? What's your opinion?
Finally, I had NOT noticed but TomTom was booting up at each soft reset. I turned it off but hadn't noticed that the GPRS was still live ... hence a bigger bill for GPRS than I was expecting.
I had a look on the sd card and found the TomTom auto Autorun file called Start.exe in the root Dir of the card. I moved it into another folder and all is ok. Most of the time now TomTom does not start up unless I invoke it.
QUESTION:
-----------
When TomTom exits can the GPRS link be broken off automatically?.. might save me a few pennies?
Thanks

Hi Ann,
I just got my MDAC3 as well and have just installed TT6 from a DVD. These are my thoughts to your questions above. I did a bit of web searching before I got one though, to find out that YES, the MDAC3 = O2 Orbit = Dopod P800W = HTC Artemis (with(out) various options made possible by Texas Instruments(the makers of the hardware) [MDAC3, Orbit, Dopod P800W are corporate brand names of the various carriers in their relevant countries, but are all know and referred to as ARTEMIS in the development circles.]
Answers to Q1 and Q2: -
I think the slowness may be due to a combination of several things.
a.) The type of microSD card you have in your set - when I was searching to buy one, I noticed there are 2 types : a normal one and and ultra II. The difference is the ultra II has a faster read/write speed, which is affects the general speed/performance of the TT6.
b.) AFAIK(As far as I Know) The orbit has a bit more capabilities than the MDAC3 such as WIFI. This additional function the same processor-OMAP850 has to cater for. Now, this porcessor is not necessarily the most efficient or the fastest available, so impacts performance as well.
c.) If you overclock, there will be a noticable improvement in performance, and a corresponding increase in battery consumption, but this may not translate to an improved experience with TT6, if you have it on a normal card vis ultra II.
The speed of refreshing the map overlay and playing the sound files associated I believe is the reason you hear the instructions after passing the landmarks/turnings, all of which I think is due to the card read/write spead again, plus the processor speed.
Answer to Q3
Its surprising that you mentioned GPRS - as this differs from GPS which the TomTom uses, though I was made to understand that a SatNav software may also use the GPRS (wierd - as this is VERY expensive if you dont have the unlimited package only available cheaply on T-Mobile). You may want to check the the connection settings of the TomTom, changing it to connect using the GPS on a port you set on the hardware.
Start Menu > Settings > System> GPS > Hardware (You may also set the port for TT6 to connect on the Program window.
TT6 starts the GPS receiver upon request for navigation (which I thought was intelligent - to save battery power)
Lastly,
IMOE (In my own Experience) I initially installed the TT6 software + maps from the DVD + POI overlay to the microSD ULTRA II, and noticed it froze up many times then I installed in the phone memory, removed the overlay (TT6 has a manageable one), maps still in the microSD and it stopped freezing up, plus refresh of map was every second.
Now I have overclocked with the hope of a good performance whilst multitasking, which is Ok with some combinations and not with others. Hence my conclusion as stated above. The processor really can be better, but Vs price, it will not be marketable in its class with the many ther products out there at the price it is given.
I hope I have been of some help.
Cheers

You can use a 2D map mode if you really want to, go to change preferences/ Turn off 3D display.
You can overclock the unit but I have found no valid reason to actually do this.
The GPRS charges are only applicable to the actual data transferred to/ from your device, so don't worry about it remaining connected - if there is no data traffic there will be no extra charges.
Leave the GPS applet alone (the one that exists in the settings menu) this often leads to confusion and is only really needed to be used/ set-up IF you want to run two applications at the same time (not something the Artemis excels at due to the processor power). Set to Other NMEA GPS receiver/ Baud 9600/ COM4 should be all that is required.
As for poor GPS reception, you mention the car has a heated screen, is this Athermic glass which is known to attenuate the signal or a standard wire heater element embeded in the glass (which do not affect GPS performance) - make sure the Quick GPS data is up to date, and don't drive around until the device has actually locked on to the signal - Mike

This thread is all about TomTom6. Best Sat-Nav software I have found for the Orbit. Doesn't cost anything to use after you purchase the software, unless you want to add the extra's, like Traffic data or Weather data.
TT6 and WM6 sloww processing
I updated my Orbit to WM6 yesterday and was a bit annoyed that TomTom has slowed down to a point where it's pretty useless for navigating. this is made worse by the fact that on WM5 it was faultless, and a lot faster to process than an Eten glofiish X500, which has a 400MHz processor!
Can I roll my Orbit back to WM5? If so, how do I do it?

You can download O2 UK WM5 ROM from these forums. just run this and you should be OK back to WM5.
On a different note. I too installed WM6 onto my Orbit and noticed NO slow down in speed of navigation. If anything I noticed it was slightly faster. Not sure why you experience the opposite from me.
Only thing I can think of is:- Did you install O2 WM6? or B&B v4?

Go into the mobile 6 thread in the forums. Black & Blue version4 looks a lot better that O2's WM6 and runs a damn site faster too. Do not upgrade to O2 WM6 first though. You need to be running WM5 and then upgrade to B&B 4 as the upgrade does something to the handset and seems to block any further update.
Before you do anything you need to download and install USPL on your handset. If you don't do USPL first you will end up with a stylish "brick"

Many thanks for that. I searched the site last night, and found B&B v4, and V3.7, and also USPL. Unfortunately, I had already upgraded with the O2 WM6, so although I have also been able to roll back to WM5 (and TomTom is now back up to speed), I am getting the "Image file corrupted" message with any attempted update, including USPL. Looks like I've been blocked from any updates unless anyone has a solution? I still have my Glofiish X500 running WM6, but the XDA runs TomTom more quickly.

This has happened to a few people. Download the file again and try.
P.S. Are you using XP or Vista. Vista seems to be a bit problematic. Some people have gotten Vista to flash ok, I on the otherhand have not.
For complete trouble free flashing use XP.
Run start_uspl.exe file, then after phone has rebooted again, run the ROM of your choice and upgrade to WM6. You won't be disappointed.........unless you run the O2 WM6 which I have found to be a big disappointment.
Success!
Hi Shand359
The Artemis USPL successfully "unlocked" my XDA, and after that it was an easy ROM update - I know have a fully functional B&B v4! Many thanks for your help and advice - donation to PDAViet on it's way.
TomTom v660.1256 map now working just as well as before - just in time for my 10 day driving trip to Spain at the end of the month. I thought I was going to have to buy a TomTom unit, but no need now.
Incidentally, I haven't worked out what "Touch Flo" is all about - can you enlighten me?

If you press the windows key ( beside the GPS key) then drag your finger across the screen from left to right, the cube should spin with different icons on it. Looks cool.

Got it now. Even my teenage son thinks it's "way cooooool"!

SDHC card disappears after resume

Hi Everyone,
I experience that the inserted SD-card is not detected when I put my Shift into hibernation and than resume. Even worse: it doesn't appear when I remove & reinsert the card neither :-(. I need to reboot when I want to use SD again !
Would be great to hear that somebody solved it in the meantime..
I'm experiencing the same problem .
Other than that I couldn't be happier. This is by far one of my greatest gadget acquisitions!
ok i got a workaround, b4 you hibernate or put into sleep disable the memory card under disks in device manager then sleep/hibernate. when you wake up re-enable sd card in device manAGER. works for me but is not ideal, guess we have to wait for updated driver.
I have the same problem.
Mine stays on!
Now...
What do you know.
Mine stays on after Hibernate and back.
I installed SP1.
Could that SP1 have solved it?

No, it's not solved.
I've got sp1 from the beginning and am missing the sd card
Readyboost is the solution ?
Hi,
I was also experimenting in the meantime. Apparently, when I enable Readyboost on the SD ( not the whole capacity of course), it stays visible after hibernate and resume.
Can somebody confirm it or it is just my luck ?

Stranege,
I am having the problem also now.
Have I been lying before?
I remeber it worked well, and now....
Huib
Same problem. I have SP1 and it won't even recognise the card if i take it out and re-insert it.
No problems here with SP1 and 8GB SDHD....I always recognizes the card (but after 5 - 10 seconds)
SD card is OK Now. How come?
I am unable repeat this problem.
I have two SD cards.
One is an "old" Sandisk Extreme III 1GB card and now and then it gave me problems not being recognized after hibernate/resume.
Today I am testing it several times ( with power plugged in or not, and several power plans, because they are supect for me) and I see it back every time.
I can "safely remove" it and I get it back.
So this is really random.
The other card is a 4 GB sandisk SDHC. I never had problems with this card.
How now?
I hope somebody can find a kind of consistency in this problem. Restarting is a drama under Vista and, when on battery, costs you at least 10% of power.
Huib
Edited: Now I also have problems with the 4 gb SDHC card. So, for me, the problem is random.
Also after "safely remove" the card does not come back when ejected and re-inserted.
Using the USB port with a reader seems to work better. But not very handy though.

Strange Faisal,
It does'nt seem to work for me. The Shift did not show my SD card after an "re-enable" It (Of course) asked me to restart after the enable.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi,
Now I have this problem too
Not at first but today it suddenly started, I changed nothing, didn't install anything. Just browsing the Internet.
btw, I can't enable readyboost... The option is not there in SD properties... Could it be the card is not readyboost capable? Or should the tab to enable readyboost still be there...

You have to enable the readyboost service. It is turned off by default on the shift.
Oh? How?
The windows help only tells me:
When you insert a compatible device, the AutoPlay dialog box will offer you the option to speed up your system using Windows ReadyBoost.

Well, the option is not there and also not in the SD's properties...

Not sure if we are talking about the same things.
If you do not enable the ReadyBoost service, the Readyboost option will not appear under the SD card's properties.
Have you enabled the ReadyBoost service? It is set to disabled by default. You will need to set it to Auto.

Phone ring lag problem

I phoned my pocket pc from my home phone I had to wait 4 rings to see that I'm actually receiving a call. I tried a soft reset but doesn't help.
I am with this ROM -> WM6.1 5.2.19716 hoangdat_VT, I have lots of programs installed, 14mb internal memory free and 64 RAM Free. I don't have any Caller ID software and I am using the stock ringtones.
ps I'm starting to hate blueangel, it's so slow in every situation
I am using xplode's WM6 rom, and just tested with both PDA screen on and off, neither took longer than one ring on my house phone. Maybe try another rom, or check with another cell phone. It could always be your carrier that is being slow and not your blue angel.

There's no problem with my ROM either. When I installed it without any programs, everything was ok. Now somethings wrong :/I know xplode's ROM is the best but I'm staying with this because it is only ROM that works with Wifi driver 2 and Helmi Broadcomm Bluetooth Drivers. I know hard reset will fix the problem but I'm tired of it Any other ideas ?
Soon I will do just like Xeon but the main problems is that I don't have money right now.
I'm using xplode's ROM, and the only problems I have with bluetooth and wireless are as follows:
Beam must be enabled for bluetooth to send and recieve, a 2 second job from comm manager.
WiFi must be switched on in wireless settings before comm manager after each reset.
I'm sure at some point soon the problems will be fixed, but as there is no official WM6 for the BA, by using it you're accepting that the developers haven't fixed everything and as such it wont be perfect.
If a hard reset will fix it, it takes my BA no more than a minute to boot back up and 30 seconds to apply the wireless settings (although I don't normally need it straight away), I don't see why doing so isn't a good idea? I treat my BA like a PC. Not a good idea to have it running for a long time without rebooting, as it will bog down.

Also you can't see other's bluetooth shared folders like on every standart phone. I got a pocket pc and I can't do that that's just a shame. There are also no services for the bluetooth and with some phones/pc I can't receive files because they need file sharing server, there's no serial port service no dial upq no HID service. You can't make other devices never to asko you for password. I have all this with my ROM. The only bad thing is that's a little slower tha xplode's ROM. But I decided to do a LAST hard reset and go back to xplode's rom. I will miss the great bluetooth software and the one click turn on Wifi function
Anyway thanks for the help.
Hopefully xplode will get around to fixing such things then

Maybe you've overclocked your BA ;], my MDA working just fine. Speed is aversome, after half ring my PDA start ringing.
ROM from pdaviet DVH 19199 - speed is great! much faster from TYTN (i have one) with 'rom polok'.
Only issue is battery with RADIO 1.06 . PDA with phone turn off work about one WEEK, but when we turn on GSM, its drain battery ~1%/1h.

Yes I overclock my PPC every time a start a game because the 400 mhz processor is not good for games. TYTN has quallcomm which is still not optimized. Try something with samsung processor. My friend has HP RX3115 with samsung 300mhz and even with WM2003 it's reaal fast. Everything starts immediately. I didn't get the chance to test it in games. And about the battery is this ~1%/1h in standby or turned on ?
Incoming ring delay...
Do not use SD for ring files. Use BA memory. For me, work.

Hi, thanks for response
question...do you have the problem that the x1's bluetooth is turning off randomly?
yes I have had the bluetooth problem and also my email signature keeps going back to the default one which is annoying.
Same problem
I have exactly the same problem. The bluetooth connection gets lost. And sometimes my phone has according to the HCB-700 an empty callers list.
This problem seems to have gone away since the rom update that is floating around as I had it until I put on Jack's 2.4 rom easily available on this forum.
problem with HCB 700 and X1
I have same problem of bluetooth turning off randomly and disconnecting from the HCB 700. This is so annoying.. what should I install? Please advise.

Could you please tell me how to do it and which one to use and where can i find it? Do i need to backup all the data on the device?
Switch to the rom development forum and choose a rom. Follow the instructions to install for one of the unofficial (but better) roms.
In certain countries you can get official updates from SE too.
Yes you will need to backup your data unless you keep it on a storage card as I do.

[Q] Wi fi

Can someone tell me how to get the Wi fi working in windows 7 on hd2 ??
assuming you have actually tried turning it on there couple of a couple of possible reasons its not working.
firstly WP7 wont connect to hidden networks
secondly, wifi not working is a very common sign of a incompatible SD card,
Thanks for the reply
a "compatible SD card" well what are most people using?
I am using a SanDisk 4G is that good or bad?
I also have a 16G but that’s for android
I'm using my stock tmous 16gb sandisk. From what I've read, & including the three HD2's I've installed WP7 on, it's very compatible.
yes i have the same problem, i know my sd card works with it because, i went through like 4 roms, and it worked perfect. I have installed HD2O_1.04_DFT_LEO70_RELEASE, and everything is perfect BUT wifi
ok let me be clear on this one, dispite what some folk on here believe there is no compatible list, any thread suggesting otherwise is just a waste of bytes.
however, in saying that, statistically, you have a better chance with a class 2 or 4 8gb or 16gb, thats not to say others wont work because they might, in short its luck!
sandisk, an all the other brands all suffer the same issue, im not going in to details on that issue but bassically even the same make and model of a card may or may not work, this is down to the manufacturing process and what components are used.
The only way you can take anyones "advice" on a specific card working is if they have tried it and physically gave it to you.
yes its a common error, you SD card might work but if its not completely compatible it may have issues, wifi, lagging, random reboots etc.

then, it's not your sd card that is the problem! simple logic here mynamemonte.
can you new folks please be more specific when asking questions? a generic question like "how do i get wi-fi to work in wp7 on a hd2" leaves open all sorts of interpretations.
a better question would have been..."i've tried such and such to get wi-fi working and not having any luck". also, if you include the rom and specific technical information about your set up increases the likelihood of a direct answer.

That is what I've gathered from all the readings on the SD card issue in the various forums. I'm using Kingston 16GB SD, class 6 that I bought to speed things up a bit when I was still using WM6.5. Works fine for me, but I'm on Frantic's 7008 ROM.
I think SD issues are a combination of both the card itself and the tweaks of the various ROM cooks put into their individual versions other than the basic DFT port.

Thanks for the info. I was getting tired of having to switch my broadcast option at home to use wi-fi. I've installed it and we'll see if it works at home tonight considering I may need the NoDo update which isn't out for the HD2 yet.
Will report later.
Btw...HTC sent out an update for the Connection Setup tool on Marketplace this morning. Just in case this update fixes any issues I may run into with HTC Wi-Fi I would recommend people install the update.
