I apologize if this has already been asked. I *DID* search around this site, several others and even Google but no one seems to have posted a comparison of extended battery compatibility along with pros/cons of the expanded battery cover backing...
So, like everyone else, my Tilt doesn't last overnight w/o a recharge. In looking at my options for extended batteries, it looks like the largest are the Mugen 3000, the Seidio 3200 and the Mobi 3000.
I'm curious as to peoples opinions on these major points:
1-Duration coupled with whether the battery causes lock-ups/freezes or other errors for the phone...
2-How the revised back cover of the phone compares to the OEM cover with respect to the camera lens, speaker and GPS.
3-Cases and cradle chargers that will work w/ extended battery covers...
4-Tweaks or other hacks needed for the Tilt to recognize the extended battery time.

Instead of other I think you should have put the option of " I dont know". I think people clicked for the sake of clicking to see the results quicker. My 2 cents.
extended battery
I have a Boxwave 2700 mah and a Seidio 1600 mah battery. The boxwave is from Taiwan with a humped back cover, so I can use my Seido holster, but will not fit in my cradle. Does fit into my Brodit car holder though, and the full backed extended battery cover will as well.
I cannot for the life of me get the correct battery reserve power reading correct. I have tried every tweak and twitch I have read and perused the registry for settings not mentioned elseware, as well as various 3rd party battery utilities, to no avail. Quite frustrating, as I can alarm on low battery, pull it out, put it back in and have 45-60% battery left on the meter. Don't know what else to do, as it does it with my 1600 and 2700 and did it with a "borrowed' Mugen 3000 for a test. Tried all the reccomendations of running it fully down and doing recharge, all that stuff, still wrong indicaitons of remaining power.
This is my greatest frustration right now with the Tilt I have and the other 8 I have bought for employees.

I ordered the Seidio 3200 battery and tried charging it in my AT&T 8925 Tilt. I left it on charge until the light turn Green.
Starting using it and within 8 hours I was at LOW battery and system died. I removed the battery and put it back in and the battery indicated goes up to 73%.
What is the deal here. Is it my phone that does not understand that it has a larger battery or is it the battery. Since that time I have sent the battery and got a new one and the same thing.
Is there some software utility to tell the Pocket PC that it has a larger battery.

As I sit here perusing options for replacement Wizard and Kaiser batteries (my sister's phone and my own...) I suddenly fear the pointlessness of choosing an extended battery! Has any headway been made on these extended battery glitches in general?
Nope. The Tilt's hardware always expects the standard battery's capacity, and will turn off when that is reached even if the battery is actually twice the capacity and is still half full.
So what you're saying is buying an extended battery is useless because it will shut off at the regular Tilt battery level? Well, glad I read this thread, I won't waste my money.
Yep. However you can remove/reinsert the battery and have more running time again. But then in that case as you have to turn the device off and open the case anyway you're better off getting a 2nd standard battery and swapping it when it's empty. Saves you from having a Kaiser that's twice as thick for nothing.
What About....
Well, I think one objective would be to try charging it as often as possible. It may be that if you plug it back into a charger, it will grant an extension of time. But in the event you are unable to charge it, you could simply remove and reinsert the battery to continue on. Has anyone tried this? I'm curious to know.

Could someone please clarify this as I find it confusing as well, I'm just using the times and percent for reference to understand.
Lets say with the stock battery it takes 8 hours to get to 40%.
Will an extended battery like those listed give me longer, like maybe 10-12 hours before it gets to 40%?
I too have searched and read everything from people swearing to get no extra time at all no matter what they do, to people getting double the talk/data time and everything in between, including but not limited to that the usable time gets longer with each recharge. If I'm going to have to take the battery out 3 times a day, I might as well just get 4 or 5 extra stock sized batteries for the same price.
Looking for someone to clear the fog...

If I could get 3 more hours before shut-down, that might be worth it. It would mean 90% of the time, I'd get 12 hours of use as long as I didn't need the GPS. It would have meant last week I would have not spent an extra 30 minutes on ice because the GPS quit with less than a mile to go, but I didn't know which way, and I had not way to charge it, so I spent an extra 45 minutes trying to find the highway home when it was time to leave. Just 3 extra hours would have been perfect.
I can't tell you how many times an extra 30 minutes even would have made all the difference in the world, and I really can't think of a time when I needed more than a couple hours.
I realize I'm playing to its weakness. I rarely use the phone itself, but I'm always in email, rss feeds, web browsing, listening to music and using the GPS.
If an extended battery will get me through a normal workday without having to rush home to charge it... That would make me a happy camper.
I have the Mugen 3000
I have the seidio 3200 and after i fully charged it for the first time use, I use it for like 12 hours of txt, calls, internet and normally at the end of the 12 hours i have about 20% of battery left. Just mainly depends on what ROM your using, what radio your using and what programs you have running. Just because 5 people have the same battery doesnt mean all 5 people use their phones for the same thing. Best thing i found is find the one with the highest battery life and go with it.
Finally it seems that Seidio has come out with an extended battery that fits without having to replace the back cover.

It is only 1500mAh which is about 10% more battery power but that might just be enough for some people to make it through one heavy day of use.

For what it's worth, I picked up one of these and slapped it in my Fuze last night. I know it'll take a handful of power drains to fully "charge" it up, but will report back when I can.

I bought something similar to this on ebay. The two batteries I got last a lot shorter than the factory battery. I cycled the batteries 5 times and still the capacity has not increased. I would say I get about 25% shorter battery life with these batteries...they do a good job of making them look authentic...minus they all have the same serial number stamped on them...
ahh i was hoping it had more mah, its not even worth the extra money to purchase this. the things people make, its not even worth it.
Has anyone ordered or used one of these? I'm interested I just want some opinions before I go and spend 44 US dollars on it.

Conditioning a Li-Ion battery is a myth and you only speed up the lifetime of the battery that only lasts about 2-3 years.
When you get your phone, you should plug it in, charge it to full, and have fun with it. None if this "charge, discharge, charge, discharge" is needed.

It's not a myth, sort of.
It takes a few cycles for the sensor to accurately understand the capacity of the battery. This means the battery might be detected as "empty," when there's some left.
After that, you only need to "recalibrate" once in three months or so to stay updated. For everyday use, you are right. It's better to charge whenever possible (but constantly trying to "charge" at 100% is not a good thing, even with the "smart chip" halting the process).

As I posted before, I got the battery the other day. Thus far, it seems to extend my capabilities enough to where I only have to charge my Fuze once a day. The exception was Friday when my bus got stuck in traffic, so I watched video for an hour. Previously, I could last about 8 hours before needing to charge.
For what it's worth, I'm a heavy SMS and data user. Don't really talk all that much, but do a lot of SMS, surfing, apps, and other PDA-ish activities with my Fuze. Running the Elite RC2 ROM as well.

Went from about 8 hours to about 12-13 hours, unless I do something super-draining like watch video for an extended period of time. Mind you, I've only had the battery in what... 4 days now, so this is still very limited scope.
Today, I was up at 6AM @ 100%... spent about 30 minutes surfing on the train, during my commute in... did some SMS... and just spent the last 90 minutes stuck in a meeting playing Freecell... and am at 57% full.

and also as a backup! the main reason i might buy this is not to completely replace my original battery, but between the two, you can easily get through a heavy day of usage... now to find a charging dock for the extra battery...

This might be true for laptop batteries but not necesarily true for phone batts.. the phones monitor the battery's voltage and compute the state of charge based on that.. there is no "smart" guts in phone batteries

supposedly after it reads full from being on.. you unplug it turn it off plug it back in and it will charge for another hour or so... than do it one more time and it will charge for 30 min again... people seem to be having good results form this theory ... I'm going to try it tonight and post my results...

This explains a lot. When I unplug the phone it goes down to 99% within 30 seconds, and down to about 92-96% within 5 minutes.
Hopefully this gets resolved soon, because as of right now i am waiting for the 2150 mAh extended battery, the 1750 mAh isn't worth the cost of extra battery life IMO.
keep in mind people, some of you have your wifi, bluetooth, gps, everything on full blast, brightness also plays a dramatic part in battery life. turn your backlight down!!! yall got a huge damn screen, remember that as well lol.. and you wonder why you have 0 battery after 8 hours >.<

You will need to do the same song and dance with the 1750 or 2150 as well - at least you will if you want to get the full battery potential.
Just turning the phone off and then plugging it in when you wake up helps significantly in topping off the battery correctly. Then I just turn it on and pull it off the charger when I'm ready to leave in the morning.
This suggests that There is a hardware flaw by htc on charging the battery... So far its looking true... Been using the phone for 3 hours with wifi on and im only down to 95%... Usually in down to this level after 15 minutes without wifi on..
Its a pain in the arse but seems to help... I im going to try this with the stock battery tomorrow

No, 5 minutes is what you'd get by doing this on a properly functioning phone/battery/charging system. It is a significant increase ... probably closer to a 10% increase than 5minutes.
Have you guys noticed any issue with the charging speed of this phone?
Last night when I went to sleep, 8PM (i know early), the battery was at 9 or 10 percent. I plugged it into the charger and all that. So this morning I go to remove the charger to check e-mail and what have you. 94%.... Come on, its 4:30 AM so that is eight and a half hours and not 100%?
Is this in the experience of anyone else? (Also do not let stock battery meter fool you, it doesn't show accurate measurement of the battery.) If not, what are you guys doing? Or is there anything I can do?
Honestly, 8 hours to charge your phone does not seem right. Something is wrong with your battery. The vibrant does take a long time to fully charge, but never 8+ hours. It usually takes mine a good 3-4 hours when my battery is dead.
I highly recommend download the application juice defender. Research and learn how to use it. It will save you tons of battery.
I'm currently on my 38th hour since the last time I unplugged my phone and I still have 8% battery. Btw, I've been using my phone for phone calls, texting, and playing games.

No, I leave my phone on. Usually with Wifi too.
Also, I have a simple wallpaper that is mainly black (it has some blue designs, but the wallpaper is mostly black). Having a black wallpaper saves battery as well because the color black consumes the least of amount of energy from our screens.
Well my homescreen is pretty black. Black mesh background, black icons (bettercut). Black bar mod. Just got done configuring juicedefender, even bought the pro version. Figure if it doesn't work out I can simply return within 24h. And, I will know within 24 if it is helping the draining.
Leaving Wifi/Bluetooth/etc on will suck your battery down. Turn it on only when you need it. This is true of all smart phones.
My Vibrant will charge to full in a couple of hours from dead. I get 10+ hours on a charge even with heavy use but I almost never use Wifi or BT so YMMV. I definitely get better battery life from the Vibrant than the old G1.
Curious if you could pay attention some time when your awake... my phone rarely charges past 98%. Wondering if your phone is charging up to 94% quickly, and then hovering or if it's actually taking 8 hours to get to that point?

I can plug my phone in around 10pm and at 6am my battery sometimes says 98-99%, but normally is good to go shortly afterwards. I do turn my phone off at night and those that need me do have my home number too unless I'm traveling.
As well I normal usage is 6am-10pm or so and I have typically 40-60% left on the battery depending on the usage. Yes I do check the About Phone and not relying on the wacked out battery meter.
I don't leave wifi, gps or 3g on all the time simply because I don't need them. Id rather squeeze the battery than have something on that isn't being used anyways. Having that quick settings drop down in the Notification bar rocks.
I have the same issue. It always takes about 4.5 -6 hours to 'fully' charge my Vibrant from <10% regardless of whether the phone is on or off. Then after unplugging the charger, the battery info states that the battery is charged to 96%. My belief is that there are firmware issues with at least some TMO Vibrant phones. I'm also dubious of the USB charger. I've ordered a regular charger and I'll see if my suspicion surrounding the USB charging system is founded. Maybe...

Mine takes about 3 hours to charge but I normally get about 13 hours a day on it with normal to serious use. I haven't had a problem with battery life since I purchased it but I have been trying new battery saving techniques to see how long I could make it last.
Currently using a mostly black background. Wifi only when I'm in the house. Brightness all the way up. Synching two email accounts and Facebook all day. Definitely getting the most out of the battery that I could expect.

Well mine takes a while but not that long. I'm going to try out the juiceDefender that was mentioned but the other thing I would recommend is the accurate battery mods that can be found in the Themes and apps section. You can flash with clock work and it's a great way to know what your battery is actually at so you can see how much you're using for various things.
Make sure your charger or USB port has high current output. There are some out there with only a few hundred milliamps. The phone will take nearly one amp and should charge in a few hours.
Excellent point. For me, I'm using the supplied Samsung USB to 110v adapter and I'm getting 4.5-6 hour charge times.

Also the USB cable is important too. 1 amp over a long, skinny 5 volt cable can drop the voltage. If the charging chip sees a lower voltage, it will think the USB port is at capacity.
I love this phone but I must be honest.. this phone is worst as the Motorola cliq battery wise. it's terrible. I had 100 percent battery life at 8am and at 10:50am I had 23 percent battery left............ no matter what I was doing.. even if I had the screen on full blast *i had it on the lowest* it still shouldn't be almost dead in 3 hours .... smh!

One poorly written application running in the background could be causing the CPU to wake up constantly. Yet I can talk for hours and the battery will still be nearly full.
I know for sure one of the latest versions of Facebook ate batteries like crazy. I ended up installing an older version and my battery life returned.
Update on the issue. I was using juice defender but it wasn't doing anything for me as far as I could tell. I have since turned off vibrate on touch, and noises coming on during clicking. I am using a usb hub with two vibrants on it. I'll plug it into the wall tonight and see how that goes.
I have been turning off my wifi when not using it. A little better I suppose. While typing this I went from 49 to 46 percent and I am a fast typer. No wifi bluetooth gps.

Yes the battery drains pretty fast, and it does take about 3 hours to charge... my main problem is... at night when I plug in to charge, couple hours later I get woken up by a beep and popup window telling me charging is done and to unplug...
anyone know how to turn that off?
So I bought a Venue Pro and I'm loving it! However, after a full charge, hours later in the battery info under settings the battery life falls very fast and says 2 hours left. Is there anyway to fix this? Thanks in advance!
I found out the answer myself. Unless you charge it from the computer it will not show you correct battery life or it doesn't charge properly. One of the two.
I thought I had solved it but no, it just charged slower and the battery I'd going equally fast. Can someone please give me a solution? Thanks
i think you simply have a bad battery.
DVP in general charges pretty fast, one hour on PC USB (500mA max) gets you a full charge.

hmm 1 hour on PC USB? Mine takes close to 3-4 hours for full charge. My battery lasts 1 day with moderate usage. So could it be that my DVP battery is bad too?
Either you have a bad battery, or maybe it's still being calibrated?
I bought a used DVP, and the battery on it lasts a whole day on moderate usage, and almost 2 days on light usage.

My battery takes 4 hours for full charge via PC and finishes to zero in 5 hours. I charged it 100% this morning, disconnected it, put it on lock screen and I've just come home and the battery has fallen to 42% even though it was on lock screen. I always keep my screen on low brightness. Will my battery calibrate in a week or do I have to buy a new battery?
Oh and I am a VERY light user. My phone isn't unlocked so I don't use cellular connection. I simply message my friends on WhatsApp and browse the web a little. Battery just fell 2% again.
The battery life is crap, thats basically it. Had several devices, none of them could last a day without basically no usage at all. Best to get used to charging it whenever you can or get a spare battery.
Hmm other users are saying theirs last almost 2 days with light usage and I don't even use cellular and it dies extremely fast! The battery life may suck but no device will kill a battery like my DVP is doing right now.If my battery is bad should I buy one of these and which one:

Sadly none of those look legit, the second one has the incorrect wattage (actuall 1400mah) and the first one claims the battery will also fit the Venue, which I think is incorrect. Try contacting the sellers to confirm compatibility and if they will accept returns for a refund.
It comes with a 12 month warranty and and returns accepted if there is a fault. Even if it isn't original will it last and solve the problem I have?
If you can return it, buy it and test it. Only way to know if that will fix your problem. Only other thing I can think of is doing a hard reset and seeing how the device performs with few or no apps installed.
Hmm that seems like the only way. I've already messaged the seller asking him if his battery will fix it and then if it doesn't I will return it. By the way I don't think a hard reset would work as the device was doing this from the first time. Also I already did a hard reset once to change the SD card and it still goes as fast. Thanks for all your help guys.

The battery life is crap, thats basically it. Had several devices, none of them could last a day without basically no usage at all. Best to get used to charging it whenever you can or get a spare battery.

DVP's battery life is not the best, but as a heavy user I can make 18-22 hours without charging (lot of phone calls, 20-40 incoming e-mails / 1 account, refresh every 15 minute/, no push), which is quite good (of course not a BB 9700 .
I messaged the seller and told him about my problem to which he replied the battery he's selling will fix it, if not I can return it. And 22 hours is quite good battery life. I charged my DVP 100% this morning and went to school. I had no cellular connection so I didn't make any calls or texts and had WiFi off with screen on lowest brightness. I played 5 minutes of movies, took 5 pictures and played 5 minutes of games. When I came home I was down to 30%. A mate of mine suggested I should let my battery die completely then charge it up and do it a few times and that fixes it as he has a blackberry 9900 and he had my problem when he had his phone brand new and after going what he told me for 4 days his battery works fine now. So ill try what my mate told me and if it doesn't work by Saturday I'll order my new battery.
Btw battery fell from 100% to 0% in 9 hours.

I bought my first DVP back in December 2010, exchanged it a few times before the wifi crashing bug was fixed, beta tested the fix for the crashing, and on none of those devices has the battery been able to last a day. That's been my experience, with normal usage.
