[Q] Battery Life - Venue Pro General

So I bought a Venue Pro and I'm loving it! However, after a full charge, hours later in the battery info under settings the battery life falls very fast and says 2 hours left. Is there anyway to fix this? Thanks in advance!

I found out the answer myself. Unless you charge it from the computer it will not show you correct battery life or it doesn't charge properly. One of the two.

I thought I had solved it but no, it just charged slower and the battery I'd going equally fast. Can someone please give me a solution? Thanks

i think you simply have a bad battery.
DVP in general charges pretty fast, one hour on PC USB (500mA max) gets you a full charge.

hmm 1 hour on PC USB? Mine takes close to 3-4 hours for full charge. My battery lasts 1 day with moderate usage. So could it be that my DVP battery is bad too?

Either you have a bad battery, or maybe it's still being calibrated?
I bought a used DVP, and the battery on it lasts a whole day on moderate usage, and almost 2 days on light usage.

My battery takes 4 hours for full charge via PC and finishes to zero in 5 hours. I charged it 100% this morning, disconnected it, put it on lock screen and I've just come home and the battery has fallen to 42% even though it was on lock screen. I always keep my screen on low brightness. Will my battery calibrate in a week or do I have to buy a new battery?

Oh and I am a VERY light user. My phone isn't unlocked so I don't use cellular connection. I simply message my friends on WhatsApp and browse the web a little. Battery just fell 2% again.

The battery life is crap, thats basically it. Had several devices, none of them could last a day without basically no usage at all. Best to get used to charging it whenever you can or get a spare battery.

Hmm other users are saying theirs last almost 2 days with light usage and I don't even use cellular and it dies extremely fast! The battery life may suck but no device will kill a battery like my DVP is doing right now.If my battery is bad should I buy one of these and which one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BATTERY-D...808?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a0f77e3f0
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-O...340?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f115330f4

Sadly none of those look legit, the second one has the incorrect wattage (actuall 1400mah) and the first one claims the battery will also fit the Venue, which I think is incorrect. Try contacting the sellers to confirm compatibility and if they will accept returns for a refund.

It comes with a 12 month warranty and and returns accepted if there is a fault. Even if it isn't original will it last and solve the problem I have?

If you can return it, buy it and test it. Only way to know if that will fix your problem. Only other thing I can think of is doing a hard reset and seeing how the device performs with few or no apps installed.

Hmm that seems like the only way. I've already messaged the seller asking him if his battery will fix it and then if it doesn't I will return it. By the way I don't think a hard reset would work as the device was doing this from the first time. Also I already did a hard reset once to change the SD card and it still goes as fast. Thanks for all your help guys.

DVP's battery life is not the best, but as a heavy user I can make 18-22 hours without charging (lot of phone calls, 20-40 incoming e-mails / 1 account, refresh every 15 minute/, no push), which is quite good (of course not a BB 9700 .

I messaged the seller and told him about my problem to which he replied the battery he's selling will fix it, if not I can return it. And 22 hours is quite good battery life. I charged my DVP 100% this morning and went to school. I had no cellular connection so I didn't make any calls or texts and had WiFi off with screen on lowest brightness. I played 5 minutes of movies, took 5 pictures and played 5 minutes of games. When I came home I was down to 30%. A mate of mine suggested I should let my battery die completely then charge it up and do it a few times and that fixes it as he has a blackberry 9900 and he had my problem when he had his phone brand new and after going what he told me for 4 days his battery works fine now. So ill try what my mate told me and if it doesn't work by Saturday I'll order my new battery.

Btw battery fell from 100% to 0% in 9 hours.

I bought my first DVP back in December 2010, exchanged it a few times before the wifi crashing bug was fixed, beta tested the fix for the crashing, and on none of those devices has the battery been able to last a day. That's been my experience, with normal usage.

Battery life sucks?!

So last night was NYE. I took my phone out with me and the battery was at 100% according to Touch IT ROM.
I took 4 or 5 pictures which were terrible, the camera sucks.
I stayed at a mates and woke up this morning, the battery was down to 20%?!
I haven't even used the phone and after 16hours or so the battery was nearly dead. What the hell, am I doing something wrong.
I always thought the battery sucked but this is a joke

same here ill try to get a new one
Check if you have any applications running in the background. Do you have Wifi turned on, bluetooth? Every module that is enabled keeps sucking power. If you don't turn them off, your phone can indeed get drained pretty quick. The battery is just fine, 1500mAh isn't bad at all. Do keep in mind that - due to the big screen and many options - phones like this just don't last for a week.
Also, did you fully uncharge your battery when you first used the phone?
If the problem persists, you can always contact SE to get a new one, as it's not supposed to drain that fast.
I know on the old P990 if you didn't exit the camera app correctly it just ran in the background and drained the battery. I do a double check in the task manager every so often to ensure that nothing was left running that shouldn't be.

the camera is not that bad, actually it's one of the bests I seen in a mobile device... anyways, don't expect to take, for example, good night photos, but actually, with good lighting the photos came really nice.
as for battery; I'm sure you shoudl have something (maybe wayfinder) running in the background, with moderate use I get 3-4 days of battery without problems; and I never let it get down 40%.
i get about 2 days max on my battery. thats with nothing running in the background, althought it does ckeck my emails every 15 mins.
shame u cant buy a bigger battery like a 3000 that would last twice as long as 4 days on one charge would be amazing
Hm.... i have another one for you guys. I was using the phone non stop for the past couple of days. Wi-fi is always on and i watch media and use opera a lot. The battery lasts for about 8 hours. When i got the phone the battery was almost dead. I did charge it but for a couple of hours only. Then i charged it overnight for 12 hours. Did the fact that i did not charge it for a long time from the box affects my battery life???

yeah, i did that with a phone i bought about 2 years ago and had to get a new battery as the original one would die after a day or 2 (should last about a week as was standard phone). i always leave a new phone on charge overnight now so i know its charged all the cells
I'm not going to say that you guys are wrong, but...
This phone, does not need to be fully drained the first time you use it, nor does it need to be fully charged. That was only an issue on older batteries, it's not an issue anymore.
I also believe it says so in the manual somewhere So, I'm guessing you guys had some defect batteries, cuz it's not an issue with the battery thats in the X1.
are you using Itjes latest HD based rom?
I found I got really bad battery life out of it for a couple of days till I let it run down to under 10% then charged it again. It's working fine now.

I heard the same thing from a couple of people. Older batteries had that problem but modern ones don't. I just wanted to make sure =P
u might be right. like i said it was about 2 years ago it happened to my phone. but why take the risk
The only thing I had on was wifi and check mail every 30minutes.
I only use general useage (8 pictures and a few messages)
but that was it. I dont understand. I charged it for 20mins and its gone from 20% to 60%.
7hours later its only on 50%. Strange thing is, my phone has been on a radiator all day and it hasnt last that much charge.
Last night it was freezing -4c outside and wasnt that warm inside, then I slept in a cold room. I wonder if heat has anything to do with it :S

Did you flash your phone recently? was the battery at full before you flashed it? it's been reported as a problem on other phones (I remember the UNI used to do this) that if you flashed when the battery wasn't at full it messed up the power levels.

Just a sidetrack with regards to batteries...
When I charge my X1 with the device turned on, the battery tends to heat up till even the casing is hot to the touch. Is anyone else encountering the same thing?
However, when the device is off while charging, the battery doesn't heat up.
Weird...
It depends on what applications you've installed.... Touch flo drains it like hell.
My phone looks like this.
I use SE panel 1, no other gimmicks.
Pocket player for music 2 hrs each day.
15 min of video here and there.
2 hrs of phone calls, and a hell a lot of messages, which means keeping on switching the phone from potrait to landscape and so on...
SPB phone suite.
SPB wallet.
SPB Wireless manager.
I get a solid 2 days with about 15% remaining at the end of the second day...

As much as possible put the phone in sleep mode when you charge the battery. And the battery gets more heated up when charging over USB.
Hi!
I had the same problem some days ago. Even if the X1 slept on my desk with no application running, after 2 days the battery was empty.
I thought about what I installed last and deinstalled Batti. And now the battery lives much longer.
Btw... does anyone know a good app to show the status of the battery? Or how I can show it instead of the clock?
Batti was great but charging every second day was not.

Battery drains faster than it should

Hello there,
I would really like some advice - my battery is draining like water. I'm quite convinced it is the regulation of the unit; I bought a 2400mAh battery replacement and it lasted ages on first go, but then my G1 started draining stupidly fast after I'd recharged it. This also happens on the stock battery too (buy even quicker!). I'm convinced it is the regulation because a) I've never had battery problems previously and b) the battery meter starts at about 26% when I plug it it in (after the phone shuts off from it being dead and I then plug in the charger).
I actually have a bricked G1 that still charges batteries, so I thought I'd do an overnight charge on the battery that way, to 'remind' the other G1 what a 100% battery is like, but that didn't seem to work either.
Can someone help? Is this a known problem? I would really appreciate any advice.
Mark
Things that cause ridiculous battery drain;
Backlight, keep it at no more than 30%
Wifi - turn off search for open networks,
Gps - wow does this drain

GPS doesn't really drain battery unless it's actively being used...at least not on my phone.
You can also try disabling 3G if you're not in a 3G area. It will keep trying to find a 3G signal, which really drains battery.
For the record, I have a stock battery that I get ~13-16 hours on from a single charge... my backlight is at 40%, GPS is always on, and I use wifi whenever I want to surf the web and am near an open network.
OP...if your battery is lasting you only a couple of hours, then I'd try to reflash your ROM. Might help...
Wow 13 to 16, I am lucky if I get 6 with 30% backlight, and wi-fi and gps off, I have always gotten that on ever rom even stock with no widgets, you are one of the very few with good battery life cause I have seen many complaints about short battery ranges

Yeah, that's on a normal, moderate usage day. If I use it heavily, with a lot of wifi and web browsing, then I'll get around 10.
Maybe your battery needs to be replaced... could just be old and not holding a charge properly.
It's 2 months old, has done it from day one, I also have another battery that does it too that I kept from a previously brick g1, so one 3 phones, all the same battery life but then I use it quite heavily, always browsing on the web since my computer burned out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555048
try that? 3rd gen battery could help..
Thanks for the suggestions, but it's not a wifi/3g/brightness etc problem - I've had a G1 for six months, I know exactly how much power should be consumed. It's also not the battery; I have two stock batteries and a brand new 2400mAh battery, which for the first few charges lasted about 2 - 2.5 days and was brilliant (as it should be), but now doesn't last all that long.
I may have made the situation slightly better however - I did a Nandroid backup, wiped to factory (well, Cyanogen 4.0.4 anyway) and booted into that. I then restored the backup and when I plugged back in to the charger, the meter was at 85%, and seemed to take a normal amount of time to charge (and not jump to 100%). It remains to be seen if the problem is solved, I've yet to have the battery drain (this is a good sign though) an plug in the charger to see if it will jump from 0 to 25 or not.
I'll re-post when I know.
run the battery down until the phone shuts off without plugging it in.
charge the battery while the phone is off over night
do this 3-5 times and see if you get any improvement.
also remember some of the cheap 2400 batts from ebay and such claim 2400 but that is from 3.5V to 3.0V. The G1 considers 3.2V to be dead so you only get from 3.5V to 3.2V which sucks.
I'm with gridlock on this one. My batteries suck. It always needs a mid day charge. And to the poster that said to reflash a rom, that is bad advice. There is known issues with getting poor performance out of these batteries. I have 2 and both do the same. Got the second one from complaining to t-mo about how bad it sucks.
Reflashing seems to have worked...the 2400mAh battery seems a lot better now, it lasted nearly two days (it runs at 3.7v, according to my battery diagnostic), I've only just recharged it last night. When I plug it in, it charges normally and linearly now, instead of jumping straight to 25%.
So my advice, if anyone is having similar problems to me, would be to try a reflash.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Battery life after initial charges- your opinions

As we all know, the Galaxy S uses a Li-Po battery.
Having previous expirience with those batteries (R/C Helicopters), i know that they require 5-10 cycles of full drain-full charge to reach full capacity and start their normal life cycle.
Not too long ago, there was a thread complaining about battery life here, but i think it was due to people checking usage time on the first or second charge only.
In this thread, i'd like to hear your opinions about battery life, but please-
Only those who passed 5 FULL drain-charge cycles, reply. We need some objective information about it.
Personally-
I'm after my 4th charge, and already seeing HUGE improvement. When i recieved it i barely managed to go through a single day, and now i'm almost 2 days since i last charged it, played some games, browsed a little, made a few calls, and i'm still over 65%.
Waiting to do 2-3 more charges and reach optimal state to see what it's worth.
Mine is a Li-Ion and lasts about a day with almost constant use.

You are correct in that initially we were told the battery type would have been a Li-Pol.
However, since the phone's release it has now come to light that the battery is in fact a Li-Ion.
I made a post that mentions this here if you wish to have a read.
I’ve had my phone approx 2 weeks, so I’m on my 5 or 6th battery recharge. My phone has been on for 1 day 20hrs now. I’ve talked on the phone for about two hours and surfed for about ¾ of an hour. Wifi has been on all the time – Bluetooth about 3hrs. Current battery level is 70% - I must say after all the gloom and doom re the latest smartphones I’m more than happy with the battery life so far and does seem to be getting better all the time.

I'm pretty sure it will.
When i got my phone i charged it to full, and before the day ended i needed to chrage it again.
And now:
Last charge was thursday morning (GMT+2), and now, after 2 and a half days, i still have 40%.
I could probably go on for another full day.
My first few charges barely made it through the working day, but now the phone still has plenty of charge after 24hours. Although right now is an exception, as the lady is playing Abduction on it and will probably keep at it until the battery dies
She really should get her own Galaxy S. Although we're waiting on some GPS improvements before replacing her phone, she cant afford to get lost.

Correct.... She's far too busy keeping me in check, looking after our Granddaughter and the Farm.
I got my replacement SGS today (had to send the original one back as Carphone Warehouse messed up the order so had to send everything back just to get a new SIM) and been hammering it for 14 hours, literally 80% of that running games, using WiFi, bluetooth and GPS and I only got it down to 25% and hadn't even charged it to 100% before I couldn't wait any longer. If the battery does get better after the initial charge, I will have no problem with this phone.
Further to my earlier post...
Charged the phone to full before bed last night... All of the power widget functions of two exchange email accounts and hotmail updating every hour.
So with no other use for 8 hours the battery was at 91% when I woke up. Battery status confirmed that 57% had gone on standby and 29 % on idle
So... Presuming this bsttery use is constant when idle... My phone will be down to 70 % by 24 hours with no use?
Crabby
It varies greatly according to reception.
Good network coverage= less work for the transceiver inside the device=less power drain.
It's not really constant.

I don't feel my phone will last my journey home at 6 tonight, so I have had to put it on charge again.
But still... on 3 days old...

[Q] Battery Life?

So Samsung Omnia 7 or Focus owners, how is the battery treating you on the phone? I'm going to switch to AT&T for this phone, but I want to make sure battery life is good too on it!
Based on your "average" use, how much battery life do you get? You can make it like 1 and a half days? Barely make it through a day? 2 days??
Thanks everyone! Vote in the poll, but I'd rather here your written opinions!
You seem to be missing the Lasts a Full Day option...
Could people post whether their usage is using push or not? Been hearing some heavily varying battery life from people and personally I need this phone to last a full day on push.
My finding so far....
It doesn't last a day doing what i want it to. But I do a lot with it, bluetooth music for hours, wifi when at home, games at breaks, facebook checking, marketplace scanning, phone calls, plenty of texts and email (set to 30 min)
To be honest it does very well, would be handy to get some app that shows % of batt and estimated time remaining.
It does seem to take quite a while to charge from nearly flat, the Omnia 7 has a decent sized battery. In order to increase the battery life i've set the tiles to red, I seem to remember reading a while back that the power consumption is reduced when displaying red for some reason or another. Will keep you posted if i notice a measurable difference to life.
I tend to charge the phone overnight, and by 5/6pm the battery icon is pretty much empty and i give it a boost for an hour to see me through the rest of the evening before getting its proper charge at night.
Remember batteries tend to take a few days/weeks to reach there maximum performance.
Sorry for the disjointed post but its whatever comes to mind as i type lol

Well, the "Lasts a day and a half" covers lasting a full day. If your phone barely lasts a full day, then you would pick the first option. If it lasts a full day pretty well, then you would probably have enough juice to go another half day, therefore you would pick the second option.
Thanks for your feedback rlatarche! Yeah it might be true that the battery needs to settle in and be better calibrated, after being drained and recharged. That'd be awesome if your battery life improves sometime!

But what if you have, say 15% left at the end of the day. That's not enough for another half a day, but I wouldn't say it's barely making it a day.

I think the battery needs a few charge cycles to attain its full capacity. Also I think it is suggested that you charge the Li-ion batteries very often first few days and don't let them deplete completely.

I have added a 16GB Class 2 Micro SD card. Everything is working fine. I hope this is not a related issue.
Anyone else experiencing this as a heavy user.
Overall im very happy with the phone. very fluid and easy to use. Great one handed operation.

Well I ended up getting the HD7. Battery life isn't great over here either. I got through until like 6:00 tonight, from a morning's charge. As the other guy said, the batteries might need some time to train themselves.
The problem with battery usage on the Focus and the Omnia 7 is the S-AMOLED display. AMOLED displays have different power usage depending on what is showing on screen while LCDs tend to have pretty much the same power usage no matter what is showing.
If you're seeing a white screen on your Focus, it's using about 3 times more power than the same screen on an HD7, for example. That means that if you spend most of the time looking at websites, the mail app or the facebook app, your battery will last less than on a phone with an LCD display.
However, if most of the time your phone is on standby or you're using apps with a black background your phone will last a lot longer than the HD7 also thanks to the bigger battery (1500mAh vs 1230mAh).
Last night my Focus received a full charge.
Took the phone off the charger at 7am and needed to put it back on at 7pm.
2 hours of phone calls.
Gmail (Push, 45 emails 1 attachment)
Texting (40 texts)
Light browsing of the web
I have had some accidental camera button smushes and that turns the phone on, and it doesn't go back to sleep, so that could be some drain.
I used it on Nov 8th from desk at work with it plugged in to wall charger. It took nearly the whole 9 hours I was there to charge the battery while I was using it. I was using it VERY heavily. Due to MicroSD issue (Lost everything on power cycle) I had to re add apps over the air. I streamed & downloaded from Zune, had all 'use location' features on, activated find phone fast feature, linked 4 email accounts, I pretty much got paid to play with my phone all day.
Nov 9th, I woke up with full charge around 7am. Didn't use phone much till got to work 9:45am. Today I left it unplugged from wall to test battery life. I streamed from Zune and Last.FM, and had 43 minutes of phone calls, 47 text messages, 11 of which had pics attached, and used map with location and traffic on when I went to lunch. Note the screen is off during music streaming. I also used a very simple $10 Logitech 2 speaker set that plugged into my phone, with phone volume on 20. When I got into my car at 8:15pm I still had life in the phone. I assume that using the external speakers greatly reduced power drain on phone. I have a spare battery and wall charger. The wall charger takes about 5-6 hours to charge a dead battery. I'm not sure yet how long it takes the phone to charge the battery, since I sleep while its doing it.
Mine is almost dead by late afternoon.
I shouldn't have to shut all the extra like wifi, bluetooth, location and dim the screen just to scrape by for barely a day. It's either the OEM batteries, or inefficiencies in the WP7 code. Since no 3rd party apps can run the background, I can't blame them...yet!

X10 battery drain solved - by buying a new battery

So I always assumed the battery drain was a hardware or software issue, especially as my X10 would often shut down on 40% power and refuse to stay turned on unless the battery were taken out for 5 minutes.
Rather than buy a new phone I thought I'd try a new battery (I have had the phone since August 2010) - just £3 from ebay, and since then my battery life has been astounding - I'm quite a heavy user, but would almost run out after 8-9 hours despite keeping everything off and only switching on 3g and wifi when necessary. Now I can leave wifi and 3g on all day, leave the phone at medium brightness setting and still have 40% after a 15 hour day of medium-heavy usage.
I used to get idle drain of 1% every 10-15 mins as well (unless the phone was rebooted), but that seems to have disappeared as well.
So before you give up on it, do try a new battery, especially if you've had yours over a year. If there's no effect, you've lost £3 and still have a spare on hand.
Hello friend, could you please post the link where did you buy?
You think people on here throw their phone away because of battery drain, and it doesnt cross their minds to buy a new battery.....instead of buying a new phone.
I just hope your £3 battery doesnt damage your phone........or explode when youve got the phone in your pocket.......or during a call

Whats the size? i have a 1500mAh and a 2600mAh whats ur cpu settings also? looking for a good setup thanks in advance!
Also amazon link for 2600mAh btw its a big battery, and requires its own case which is rather bulky (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Ericss...TIMS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331594837&sr=8-1)
This is the 1500 i currently use, still getting the battery sorted with kernels ect

I would just like to confirm what OP wrote. Not only did my new battery (I got the 1800mah one from Mugen, $33) solve my battery drain, it also solved my mysterious reboots, lockups, and heat issues. My phone would regularly get up to 48 celcius, it would result in it automatically shutting off the charging. It was a pain in the butt when using GPS on long trips as I would have to have the AC run straight onto the phone just so it would still charge. It was like this from new. With the new battery it has not budged above 29 celcius with GPS navigation, 100% screen, bluetooth, music and sync all running at the same time, I am shocked!
In order to condition the battery I turned off the screen timeout ("No screen off" in the Market) so I could get it to drain to 5%, it lasts twice as long even with the screen on all the time then it did before I got the battery, feels like a new phone.
beware of cheap batteries
beware of counterfeit batteries. Ive read a bit about cheap batteries being inferior knock offs. You tube has several vids about how to tell the difference
I'm about to buy bigger battery for my x10i. Now I have original 1500 mAh. Do you, who already tested thease 2500 mAh bateries see the difference?

My phone starting doing the exact same thing... shutting down at around 40% so I order the Mugen 1800mAH battery as well. Should get it in a few weeks... I did see much cheaper batteries available but figured you get what you pay for, and the reviews on the Mugen batteries seem to be good so I spend the extra money for it. Looking forward to the extended battery life!
