Pof's tool for enabling WIFI in XP. - Shift General

I am really struggling with this tool and will appreciate all the help I can get.
I installed WinXP successfully with WIFI and bluetooth enabled and working. Then I didnt use my Shift for a month ( been on business trip). Battery was completely discharged. When I charged the battery WIFI and Bluetooth are switched off. I assume it cause of full battery discharge.
Now I am trying to make use of Pof's tool but having problems.
I ran install.bat and then tried to use enable WIFI with no joy. I downloaded crygwin and installed it.
I tried to installed ioperm manually but it said "ioperm already installed, canot start service".
On enableWIFI.bat it says "connot connect port. no device found"
Any ideas? pof?

Try uninstalling ioperm (ioperm -U I think?)...reinstalling it, then copy hsect2.exe into the bin folder of cygwin (in c drive)....open cygwin by double clicking on the cygwin icon....type in hsect2 -W 1 to turn wifi on...zero to switch off....same goes for bluetooth - hsect2 -B 1 for on....
TRy that first...
Just out of interest, where did you even find instal.bat in pof's tool? All I got was a zip file with 3 text notes and the hsect2.exe...nothing else? I couldn't break the .exe down any further?

I downloaded and unzipped POf tool
When I downloaded Pof's tool I got more files. There were batch files to switch bluetooth and wifi on and off. (so tha tu dont have to type switches). I also had ioperm and crygwin.dll plus and install. bat which installs ioperm.
When I install ioperm it says driver installed. funtion call to start service failed.
when I uninstall it by using -u switch it says its is not running.
the bin folder in crygwin in empty. I copied hsect2.exe as you suggested but it requires crywin.dll to work.
I am close to pulling my hair out.

Try to remove battery, install it back and then run install.bat and so on.

I got cygwin from here - http://www.cygwin.com/setup.exe
Just run the installer, the only change you need to make to the default settings is to tick the ioperm box, which is in the libs section. You'll see what I mean when you install it.
Then you can copy the hsect2.exe file to the cygwin/bin folder, and run cygwin and issue the commands there.

ya75khan - I think you need to delete all the old cygwin files and start from a new. As Pantaloonie touches on you need to d/l the full cygwin recommended data set PLUS make sure ioperm is selected...I tried using a lesser number of files by deselecting some but eneded up with similar messages relating to DLL's missing etc etc.
I started a fresh with a new download and installed as per Pantaloonie's instructions and "bing", hsect2 worked.
Pantaloonie, do you think we got a different file set off pof's site? Seems we might not have the same files as some others? Mind you, entering the command line info is straightforward - the buttons do look savvy tho....

No joy
Many thanks for the great suggestions. However despite follwing it word by word I have same problem. i.e. ioperm is installed but service fails to start.
and hence hsect2 has no effect.
I then reverted back to vista. swtiched on WIFI and bluetooth. I earlier had an acronis image of the clean install xp. It was a breeze to resotore the xp with all the drivers installed.
I am happy to share the acronis image. it took a lot of effort to install all drivers and can be realy helpful for some one looking to install XP. problem is it is almost 4gb in size and I cant find a free web service to upload it.

ActiveSync Problem!

Hi to all!
I previously used WM2003SE ROM2.06 (the one modified by ZeroExtreme). Then I took the plunge coz I couldn't resist trying out WM2005. The upgrade went fine, but then ActiveSync started acting weird. It synchronizes, but it stays minimized, no matter what I do. When I right-click on the taskbar tray (BTW I'm running WinXP SP2) and click on "open activesync", it opens, but again, stays minimized so I cannot get into the options or tools. I got pissed off so I rreverted back using XdA2JoJo and toenailed's Final version (the exe file). The update went fine. Naturally, I removed a ActiveSync 4 and installed AS 3.8 It was installed fine, and it recognizes my device, but it can't sync. It says connected but when I try opening AS it give me nothing. it doesn't even prompt me for a new partnership. When I cchoose to "explore device" by right-clicking the taskbar icon, it gives me like a communication error and tells me to reset my PPC. I did, but still to no avail. I uninstalled and reinstalled AS3.8 and even AS3.7 - same problem. I searched the forum tried running replog.exe on my Xda2, nothing. Tried deleting everything including manually uninstalling AS by deleting its registry files - same problem. When I install AS4, it synchronizes alright, but again, AS4 won't open, it just stays minimized.
Please help me guys. Thanks in advance!

Same problem here guys ... anyone can help ???
hi guys
when I tried to downgradte to version 3.8 form 4.0 I had the sam problem,
but then I just deleted everything including registry keys, and I reinstalled 4.0 ( not 3.8), and It works great now
Activesync Problem
Still the same here. I can't be the only one who has thes same minimized activesync.
No matter what I do i just can;t get it to maximize.
Help please.
Tried uninstalling deleteing registry keys. The only thing ive been able to do is a system restore. and of course i'm left with 3.8
Help
solution !!!
I met exactly the same problem some days ago. The issue resulted from the undeleted DLL files in folder "\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\NoteSync Forms".
You can find a install log file named "wcesetup.log" in the ActiveSync installation folder, in which it reccored everthing copied/replaced during installation. Some DLL were not copied/replaced, due to previous installation.
Just remove the DLL files which were not installed correctly. Then re-install, your problem should by solved.
Hopefully it's helpful.
Sorry for the late update. I solved my problem - I reinstalled windows! Well, apparently I had no choice for I already tried everything I could find in the forums.
installed activesync 4.0 due to curiosity.
failed to sync.
tried to re-install 3.8, but activesync failed to "pop-up" during startup. failed to maximize as well. indicates "Connected" at system tray.
it is such a great thing we have forums and threads like these.
after spending hours of trying to figure out what's wrong, it only just took me a few minutes to read this thread and fix the prob!
deleted files using WCESETUP as reference. some files didnt want to be replaced since they are "version 4.0.4343" and source file is older (from activesync 3.8 ). whew.
Still don't work
U said u deleted some files using 'wcesetup' can u explain yourself. I tried the above deleteing dll in nsync folder. That didn;t work.
Please this just keeps going and going and i need to fix it. And i don;t fancy reloading my machine to complete it
Thanks in advance
ok i can give some info
remove activesync from you pc
remove the XDA from the cradle
and use taskman to stop wcesmgr.exe and wcescomm.exe
go to control panel and remove activesync
restart pc
go to program files\microsoft activesync and delete all fire there or (if you have pocket pc apps instaled from the desktop backup it cos all cabs are there)
then if your xda as BUZmobile 2005 you MUST use activesync4
else activesync 3
dont use any type of anti-virus/firewall when using activesync4 cos it will prevent a good connection
after that install it again
for activesync4 is better to have outlookXP (outlook2003) and open it i did have some problems sync notes with it closed
well post what appened
Guys, I have a new problem now. I flashed my Xda to WM2005 again, using Buzz's ver. 1.6a
Activesync 4 (build 4343) installed fine but now, when I conect my Xda2, AS opens alright, but it doesn't prompt for a new partnership. Intead, the icon keeps on spinning and then I get an error on my device: "Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings." Please help...
I somehow made it sync! But now I'm back to the same problem in the first post! Now ActiveSync stays minimized and I cannot get it maximized! Please...
Try to disable windows firewall ... solved my activesync (via usb) problem

How to install .net on XDA11i

Hi guys / gals
I have an XDA11i and want to add .net compact 2.0 to it so that I can run hitchhiker or wififofum etc .
How do I install the .net framework ? do I just add it to the active sync folder and let it get patched across ? or do I load it to another folder on the Pda and run it ?
Am having fun with my work network whih at the moment is stopping me down loading the file any way but I believe my It dept can get round that one for me.
Help greatfully appreciated

I am a bit unclear:
In which format is the installation you have?
Usually you download the desktop installer from MS. (I believe it is an .msi file). Then you just connect you device, double click on the file on your PC and it does everything else automatically.
If you just have the .cab file, copy it to your device, then click on it from the file explorer (on the device).
That's it.
If you need to download it you can do it here.
Easiest way: dock your Alpine.
Download and run the .msi file from the Microsoft URL mentioned above (it's the latest version of the .net compact framework). Let the installation run its course, and as it goes it'll transfer the CABs over to your device and then they'll install. I don't think (if memory serves) any user intervention is actually required.
One soft reset later: bang, you're sorted.
Thanks guys
Took your advice and all sorted , as you said it does it all its self , no intervention .
Now have hitchhiker and wififofum all up and running although a big drain on system rescources .

USB Drivers for Vista

Hi
As explained here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_USBModem
The driver won't load under Vista with an error "can't find specified file", it looks like the usbser.sys file is missing in Vista.
Has anyone succeeded in getting the TyTN working as a USB modem?
With HSDPA speed, bluetooth isn't fast enough
Maximum speed I've been able to achieve over bluetooth is about 400kbit/s while over USB I can easily get over 1.1Mbit/s
I got it to work in Beta 2 & RC1 but since RC2 I get the same error
I have the same error.
It worked in Beta 2 and RC1 OK, but not in RC2. The error is 'can't find specified file' as noted above.

I'm having the same problem after doing a fresh install of build 5744. I had it working on the system before - upgraded from RC1 to 5744, so evidently there is something missing in 5744 that breaks this if installed from scratch.
/POL
here is the same error in 5840, i will wait until RTM version to test it again
guys have you tried installing it while logged in as the 'Administrator' not a different username just added to the Administrators group because as you all know applications being installed are run as standard 'User' privlages until installed by the default 'Administrator' account.
try that and let me know...
Got it working for Vista RC2
You have to first read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837637 and change your driver INF file accordingly. I have a version of the P2K driver file that recognizes the motorola V360 which I'm attaching for ilustration purposes.
Hope this helps...
Working on Vista RC2 Build 5744
Thanks for that. It's now working in my version of Vista (this post is written whilst using the USB connection).
I used the files attached which I tweaked thanks to xargons17's note.
My tweaks included changing the following so I could check the correct driver was being installed:
[Strings]
PROV = "HTC"
USB\Vid_045E&Pid_0079.DeviceDesc = "RAV Hermes WM5 USB Modem"
USBFilterString ="RAV Hermes WM5 Modem Driver"
and it involved changing the following reference (commenting out usbser.sys,,,0x20):
[UsbModemFiles]
;usbser.sys,,,0x20
;
; Explicitly states the usbser.sys should not be taken from the CD/Disk
;
When installing always choose 'Let Me Pick From A List of Device Drivers On My Computer' option. And choose 'Have Disk' to navigate to the attached .inf file. The device being installed should be the 'RAV Hermes WM5 Modem Driver' or whatever you decide to call it in the [Strings] section. I changed the strings name so I could be certain I was selecting the correct driver/device.
This assumes that the file usbser.sys has been copied to c:\windows\system32 folder as this is hardcoded in the usbmdm.inf file attached. Make sure you have the usbser.sys in that folder before attempting to install.
Hope that's helpful to somebody else.
USB Modem
I had the same problem and ended up buying PDANet which works great! www.junefabrics.com/palmnet/
rav your download is corrupt!!! i am having problems installing the file. not working in vista....
file not working
I tried downloading that file that you had already modded but it was a corrupt zip file. please repack!
another file
I created my own file and works fine on Vista RTM, This file assumes that the usbser.sys is under c:\windows\system32
Here are the files again.

I've just checked from another PC and can download and open the zip file fine. Have others downloaded successfully?

I don't get the 'Let Me Pick From A List of Device Drivers On My Computer' option. Windows automatically install the default driver. Even if I uninstall the default driver it still intalls it with out giving me the oprion to pick.

I am also having trouble with Vista USB driver & usbser.sys.
Can anyone please advise on modifying my .inf file?

Easy as ABC to resolve Vista USB problem..
Hi guys, I have been having lots of prblem with USB devices ( pen drive, USB portable HDD, IDE-USB HDD, USB MODEM, PDAs etc.. ) but I have found a simple way to resolve all my problem then going thru different ways to resolve issues caused by different devices..
Please read below:
Special Thanks to: http://teknobabble.wordpress.com/20...ems-installing-a-usb-media-reader-a-solution/
Problem:
•In C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository I had two folders named “usbstor.inf” but each one had a different set of numbers attached to the end of the folder name. <- could this be where part of the problem lies?
•When I looked in my C:\Windows\inf folder I discovered the usbstor.inf and usb stor.pnf files were missing <- this definitely had to be an issue.
Once I discovered these anomalies, I proceeded to copy the pnf and inf files from the most recently updated usbstor.inf folder to C:\Windows\inf. I then went back to the update driver wizard, pointed to the inf folder and what do you know but they all started working again.
So with some scepticism I tried this approach and it worked.
I have also attached a ZIP(.doc) file with screen shot for easier reference.
Hope this helps everyone....
Apology for the late reply.
I attached more files to share.

Hi!
I followed all hints, but it doesn't work. The driver can not be installed says Vista. Files are placed in the correct folders.
HTC has release a zip with the drivers, but i can't find it on the web, does anyone have it and could post it?
Thanks

Trouble when installing .CAB file on my Wing

Hi, all,
As a lot of you did, I got my wing and started to follow Nyer78's post "All you need on your wing" to try to optimize the phone, thanks to Nyer78.
But after I copied the first 6mb pool.cab to my phone and tapped it, I got an error message as the following:
"There is no application associated with "6mb pool". Run the application first, then open this file from within the application."
Could you help me to solve this? I'm very new to XDA and WM, and very eager to see my wing fly.
TIA.
Alan
You don't run the .bat file on ur actual phone.
Plug your phone up to activesync .. copy over the .CAB file and install it. I think you need to soft reset ... then once your phone connects to activesync again, you run the .BAT file on ur PC

Is not a valid pocketpc application

I downloaded a lot of windows pocketpc applications for my Xperia and none of the worked... The following message comes up: "Is not a valid pocketpc application"
I had a lot of 2003, windows 5, and 6 applications, and games and they cant install or open!
How can I fix this?
RE:
Did you just copy the applications straight to your Xpreia then run the files? If so, you need to run most pocket apps on a PC first, then when you connect your Xperia to a PC then a window will pop up showing you the applications that need to be installed onto your Xperia. This is all Automatic, as long as you have installed the Phone onto your PC.
Hope this helps.
Joel
Yeah, that's the only real stupid crap on WM.
I could install any app on Symbian right on phone.
Why the hell they don't make all .CAB's??
I understand with big files, but with 100kB thing is plain stupid,
the whole idea of mobility dies with this.
P.S. I also have some apps like that, so what do I do?
Install it first on PC? And than what, uninstall it after installing on phone??
If you have it "install" on your pc only, it always leaves a .cab file somewhere to be downloaded to your phone later. That's how I extracted the CAB files from the executables I have anyway.
99% of apps can be obtained as cab. Only few I had to install manually (ie there was no CAB or PC EXE installer).
Most are avaialble also aso PC exe, but if someone bothers with EXE installer, he usually has CAB too (in fact he has to, since the PC installation shows some funky windows and then it simply copies the CAB to WM device).
Which is also where you can get the CAB. Unpack the EXE installer (very often possible, Total Commander can do that for example), locate the CAB inside it, and install the CAB manually.

So you had plain luck,
50% of the apps which I want are these f**n .exe. Without any .CAB inside.
But I still didn't get how is the standard operation from PC.
What do I do first? Install the .exe on my computer and than connect phone? And what than?
sync your mobile with activeSync, install the application through pc, activeSync will start the installation on your mobile
Connect the phone to the PC via ActiveSync.
Run the exe on the PC. It installs on PC and copies the cab installer to the phone via ActiveSync. The phone should start the installation automatically.
I still wonder .. what applications are those ?

Great, thanks guys for replies.
I assume while installing I can choose the place of installation (phone/card....)
P.S. Can the .cab installer stay on device, for quick reinstall after upgrade?
Or you have to connect to PC again?
