USB Drivers for Vista - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi
As explained here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_USBModem
The driver won't load under Vista with an error "can't find specified file", it looks like the usbser.sys file is missing in Vista.
Has anyone succeeded in getting the TyTN working as a USB modem?
With HSDPA speed, bluetooth isn't fast enough
Maximum speed I've been able to achieve over bluetooth is about 400kbit/s while over USB I can easily get over 1.1Mbit/s

I got it to work in Beta 2 & RC1 but since RC2 I get the same error

I have the same error.
It worked in Beta 2 and RC1 OK, but not in RC2. The error is 'can't find specified file' as noted above.

I'm having the same problem after doing a fresh install of build 5744. I had it working on the system before - upgraded from RC1 to 5744, so evidently there is something missing in 5744 that breaks this if installed from scratch.
/POL

here is the same error in 5840, i will wait until RTM version to test it again

guys have you tried installing it while logged in as the 'Administrator' not a different username just added to the Administrators group because as you all know applications being installed are run as standard 'User' privlages until installed by the default 'Administrator' account.
try that and let me know...

Got it working for Vista RC2
You have to first read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837637 and change your driver INF file accordingly. I have a version of the P2K driver file that recognizes the motorola V360 which I'm attaching for ilustration purposes.
Hope this helps...

Working on Vista RC2 Build 5744
Thanks for that. It's now working in my version of Vista (this post is written whilst using the USB connection).
I used the files attached which I tweaked thanks to xargons17's note.
My tweaks included changing the following so I could check the correct driver was being installed:
[Strings]
PROV = "HTC"
USB\Vid_045E&Pid_0079.DeviceDesc = "RAV Hermes WM5 USB Modem"
USBFilterString ="RAV Hermes WM5 Modem Driver"
and it involved changing the following reference (commenting out usbser.sys,,,0x20):
[UsbModemFiles]
;usbser.sys,,,0x20
;
; Explicitly states the usbser.sys should not be taken from the CD/Disk
;
When installing always choose 'Let Me Pick From A List of Device Drivers On My Computer' option. And choose 'Have Disk' to navigate to the attached .inf file. The device being installed should be the 'RAV Hermes WM5 Modem Driver' or whatever you decide to call it in the [Strings] section. I changed the strings name so I could be certain I was selecting the correct driver/device.
This assumes that the file usbser.sys has been copied to c:\windows\system32 folder as this is hardcoded in the usbmdm.inf file attached. Make sure you have the usbser.sys in that folder before attempting to install.
Hope that's helpful to somebody else.

USB Modem
I had the same problem and ended up buying PDANet which works great! www.junefabrics.com/palmnet/

rav your download is corrupt!!! i am having problems installing the file. not working in vista....

file not working
I tried downloading that file that you had already modded but it was a corrupt zip file. please repack!

another file
I created my own file and works fine on Vista RTM, This file assumes that the usbser.sys is under c:\windows\system32

Here are the files again.

Still seems corrupt.

I've just checked from another PC and can download and open the zip file fine. Have others downloaded successfully?

I don't get the 'Let Me Pick From A List of Device Drivers On My Computer' option. Windows automatically install the default driver. Even if I uninstall the default driver it still intalls it with out giving me the oprion to pick.

Vista USB driver problem
I am also having trouble with Vista USB driver & usbser.sys.
Can anyone please advise on modifying my .inf file?

Easy as ABC to resolve Vista USB problem..
Hi guys, I have been having lots of prblem with USB devices ( pen drive, USB portable HDD, IDE-USB HDD, USB MODEM, PDAs etc.. ) but I have found a simple way to resolve all my problem then going thru different ways to resolve issues caused by different devices..
Please read below:
Special Thanks to: http://teknobabble.wordpress.com/20...ems-installing-a-usb-media-reader-a-solution/
Problem:
•In C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository I had two folders named “usbstor.inf” but each one had a different set of numbers attached to the end of the folder name. <- could this be where part of the problem lies?
•When I looked in my C:\Windows\inf folder I discovered the usbstor.inf and usb stor.pnf files were missing <- this definitely had to be an issue.
Once I discovered these anomalies, I proceeded to copy the pnf and inf files from the most recently updated usbstor.inf folder to C:\Windows\inf. I then went back to the update driver wizard, pointed to the inf folder and what do you know but they all started working again.
So with some scepticism I tried this approach and it worked.
I have also attached a ZIP(.doc) file with screen shot for easier reference.
Hope this helps everyone....
Apology for the late reply.
I attached more files to share.

Hi!
I followed all hints, but it doesn't work. The driver can not be installed says Vista. Files are placed in the correct folders.
HTC has release a zip with the drivers, but i can't find it on the web, does anyone have it and could post it?
Thanks
Wonko

REQ: USB Modem Driver

Can someone upload the INF file for using the Wizard as USB modem in Windows XP/2000? I left my bluetooth dongle at home and need to use my laptop to upload data. Thanks!
Here's the .inf. Because you cannot upload .inf files to this forum i have zipped it
TIP: i've put this file on my storagecard and together with WM5storage, i can always acces it
Thanks for the QUICK response! I did not enjoy posting that original message request on my Wizard.
This is what makes this site great, I've always found the best support here ever since I owned the Wallaby in 2002.

How to find correct "BlueSoleil" driver or other Bluetooth driver

Hi
Having a problem to get my bluetooth running (see previous posts) the QTEK support answered to install the "Bluesoleil" Bluetooth driver.
On the web site of Bluesoleil it is possible to download an evaluation version but when I install it, it doesn't run.
The installation process seems to be OK, but when I tap on the bottom right Bluetooth Icon I get :
"Impossible to find 'NULL' (or one of its components). Check the path and the file name are corrects and all the libraries are available".
If I try to launch with the shortcut from program screen, nothing happens.
When I use windows file explorer I can see that a new directory has been created in "program files" but empty.
Is it possible to get a correct installation of this product (or another one to manage Bluetooth instead of Microsoft basic one which doesn't run) ?
Thanks
Thanks

Touchscreen not working - Help

Hello,
the Touchscreen of my Shift is not working after i updated to Vista Enterprise Edition. Is there someone that can send me an image of the expanded device manager?
Thank you!
Can you be more specific?
Does it work in Snapvue?
Huib
Same here!
After update to Ultimate or Enterprise version the touch screen does not work within Vista. Works without problem on the snapvue side.
Native HTC Pen Driver missing / not installed.
Have you checked windows update? It offered me an updated HID input touch screen driver a few days ago.
Yes if checked windows update, all update are installed.
HTC gave me this answer:
Dear Customer,
We can not send the drivers yet because only the developers team in Taiwan has got them and they are not redistributing them at the moment. However, you should be able to go back to Vista Business if you perform a "hard reset". When you switch on the shift, if you press and hold FN key and then the number 3, it will show up a recovery utility which should take your device back to factory default settings.
I am wondering if reseting the device is there only solution ?

SD Card not working on XP?

Hello everybody,
Is it possible that the SD Card's are not working on XP?
I have an entry in my device manager. But if I insert a SD Card it wont work.
Regards,
CodeX2k
XP on the shift reads my smaller cards, 1gb and 4gb, but not my 16gb sdhc. There is an XP sdhc patch available from microsoft, but it made no difference on my shift.
Mine reads 16.
Only after hibernate/sleep I often loose any sd card and I get an error in my device manager.
Huib
Stupid me!
Did not see the XP!
Apologizes pls

Right now I can't test if the smaller cards are working. I only have a 16GB SDHC Class 6 with me in my holidays...
Did anyone get SDHC Cards working on XP?
I have the same problem when I installed the XP, SD slot won't read 16G,
But 16G SD card works with my USB card reader. Touch screen also won't work so gave up XP, restored Vista.
Only things won't work for me on XP are SDHC, Resolution Change and the HTC Utility all others works just fine ahhh and Touchscreen Calibration.
Hi @all
***EDIT***
I test now some other drivers, and see: It is really necessary, that you really right update the sdbus driver. I use this one:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67470
and force this driver to update, then if you want to update this driver normally, then the device manger tells you, that no other driver is newer than the installed.
But: I install again from scratch and test a little bit.
I think it is really related to the sdio driver problem when you want to install the WLAN.
But i´m not really shure, it is the right driver.
later more ;-)
*** old ***
SDHC don´t work to by my side. (test with 8GB kensigton) Normal SD e.g. 512MB Cards works.
I comparing the drivers with a other Notebook and i See, on HTC Shift the Driver is originaly from Microsoft build date 10-01-2002. My other Notebook has an driver from 2006 and from company O2Micro.
maybe that´s the Problem. Anybody knows what is the manufacturer of the SD Card Slot?
Can anybody send me the *.inf files from a Vista installed machine? Or have a look to the devicemanager of Vista, which driver is installed?
Additional I See: the driver sdbus.sys located in c:\windows\system32\drivers is the Version 6.0.5308.17 (with SP3) and is newer than the SDHC Hotfix that you can download from Microsoft...
Hmm. crazy..
see here the Microsoft Hofix link: (BTW: there a other hotfixes for SDHC Issues downloadable from MS too)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923293/en-us
It doesn't appear to be limited just to the Shift: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366570
It appears that the hotfix won't work and even the sp3 unless there's a specific fix/driver for the Shift, since Shift is not supported with XP officially, there wouldn't be one from HTC.
P.S. 16GB doesn't work on mine either. Still, not enough to make me go back to the ultra-slow Vista
Hi Doni,
thank you, really interesting. As I install a blank Windows XP SP3 from CD on shift (without additional drivers) , my Kingston 8GB SDHC Card works. (the first time I inserting my SDHC I become a blue screen) but after restart it works.
I think, the SD Card Reader device of Shift is a standard product, that build into other PC´s too, only the way to find out that that´s is the problem
I have some backup´s from my installation and can go back, so I will try it, at which time it has works..
see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=438820
###edit: ###
I test it with fallback to my older backups.
SDHC works, before I Installed the SDBUS.sys driver that is needed to become WLAN functionality. So I think, we must look for a other sdbus.sys driver (file) ?
I'm assuming then that WLAN doesn't work with the SP3 sdbus.sys, right? And the version that does, doesn't work for SDHC. Nice I suppose we need one that does both.
Hi Doni,
i have searched some hours for a solution.
to track the problem was a Everun UMPC http://www.raondigital.com/fnt_english/ev01.asp
essential, where we have stolen the sdbus.sys driver.
If you go there to the support and driver download you see, there is only the "sdbus.sys".
Really interesting, "how to" the normal user can change this file
normally is in a driver package (*.sys) always a *.inf file included, what I missed.
When you change only the *.sys file, maybe you can have problems with it, sometimes, there a difficult or other settings stored in Registry to control this driver.
And this is the problem I´m think. We need an officical *.inf (maybe installed) file from a Raon Everun UMPC.
I install at the moment Vista on shift to fetch the SD Bus settings from Vista side, maybe I become like Jesus and see the holy spirit.. (sorry, only joking)
I think the sdbus drivers of WXP-SP3 are ok, but you need some registry tweaks to control that right. Maybe the *.inf from Vista tell it me.
BTW: I don´t need the sdbus.sys from RAON within my precomiled WXP TPC SP3. WLAN works with the original sdbus.sys as well.
And that´s it: I try this way. Next week I´m on a Business trip, long time in lonesome hotels with long nights..
Always with a 16GB USB Stick and Acronis on it to recover. What need a man more in the City Jungle?
))
bg Joy
BTW:
WXP SP3 Driver Version 6.0.4069.5 from 2008-10-01 (Y-M-D) (sdbus.sys 6.0.4069.5512 (080413-2111)
Vista (org HTC) Version 6.0.6000.16478 from 2006-06-21 6.0.6000.16478 (vista_gdr.070427-1615)
Vista with SP1 Version 6.0.6000.18000 from 2006-06-21 6.0.6001.18000 (longhorn_rtm.080118-1840)
if you use that in a *.inf file
(make a new inf file with texteditor and copy lines above into it)
than you can install the raeon sdbus.sys driver
normally without windows safe mode...

Hi Unapproachable, where can I find your patch, please? Would you please put up a link to it or attache it here in the theread? Thank you!
EDIT: I've found it! For those interested the patch <SDIO_Fix_01a.zip> can be downloaded from the thread SHDC & Wifi XP Fix located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691208
Great thing Unapproachable2kx, thank you! I'll test it asap and report back.
Unapproachable2kx, is this patch still in the alpha state or is it pretty final?
Hi Unapproachable2kx!
I have tested your patch and I have inconsistent results. This means that I got wifi working (it used to work also before the test) and I got SDHC working once without problems for several insertions and wifi connect-disconnect cycles.
But after reboot and several other reboots the system was self-resetting and restarting when inserting the SDHC card (8GB Kingston). So after 6-7 such auto-resets I gave up using the SD card.
It is good to know for those who want to go that way that even if the wifi is on, the wifi icon doesn't show up in the task bar, so to make it visible you have to disconnect it and reconnect it with the .bat scripts (buttons).
Actually it seems to me that one can get the same results as installing the patch by doing an update of the wifi Marvell driver (which will go from the ionitial version 8.75.500.624 to the latest version 8.75.813.830) via internet (wifi connected) by using the appropriate Update button in the Hardware Manager. After that you have to replace in c:\Windows\System32\Drivers the sdbus.sys used in the wifi installation process (6.0.5308.17) with the initial Win XP SP3 6.0.4069.5512 (if you copied and saved it during the installation). For this replacement no Safe mode appears to be necessary. The same game with stopping and restarting the wifi board is necessary.
Any other's experience please?

if you use that in a *.inf file
(make a new inf file with texteditor and copy lines above into it)
than you can install the raeon sdbus.sys driver
normally without windows safe mode...

Hi joy.d, wonderful thing if working stable.
What is the purpose of getting this new *.inf file, are you trying to replace the initial sdbus.inf file? If so could we start from that one and do only the changes?
Could you please be so kind to attache your *.inf file here in this forum? How did you named it? How to proceed further with it?
What sdbus.sys file did you use, the 4069 or the 5308 version?
Many thanks!

Pof's tool for enabling WIFI in XP.

I am really struggling with this tool and will appreciate all the help I can get.
I installed WinXP successfully with WIFI and bluetooth enabled and working. Then I didnt use my Shift for a month ( been on business trip). Battery was completely discharged. When I charged the battery WIFI and Bluetooth are switched off. I assume it cause of full battery discharge.
Now I am trying to make use of Pof's tool but having problems.
I ran install.bat and then tried to use enable WIFI with no joy. I downloaded crygwin and installed it.
I tried to installed ioperm manually but it said "ioperm already installed, canot start service".
On enableWIFI.bat it says "connot connect port. no device found"
Any ideas? pof?
Try uninstalling ioperm (ioperm -U I think?)...reinstalling it, then copy hsect2.exe into the bin folder of cygwin (in c drive)....open cygwin by double clicking on the cygwin icon....type in hsect2 -W 1 to turn wifi on...zero to switch off....same goes for bluetooth - hsect2 -B 1 for on....
TRy that first...
Just out of interest, where did you even find instal.bat in pof's tool? All I got was a zip file with 3 text notes and the hsect2.exe...nothing else? I couldn't break the .exe down any further?
I downloaded and unzipped POf tool
When I downloaded Pof's tool I got more files. There were batch files to switch bluetooth and wifi on and off. (so tha tu dont have to type switches). I also had ioperm and crygwin.dll plus and install. bat which installs ioperm.
When I install ioperm it says driver installed. funtion call to start service failed.
when I uninstall it by using -u switch it says its is not running.
the bin folder in crygwin in empty. I copied hsect2.exe as you suggested but it requires crywin.dll to work.
I am close to pulling my hair out.
Try to remove battery, install it back and then run install.bat and so on.
I got cygwin from here - http://www.cygwin.com/setup.exe
Just run the installer, the only change you need to make to the default settings is to tick the ioperm box, which is in the libs section. You'll see what I mean when you install it.
Then you can copy the hsect2.exe file to the cygwin/bin folder, and run cygwin and issue the commands there.
ya75khan - I think you need to delete all the old cygwin files and start from a new. As Pantaloonie touches on you need to d/l the full cygwin recommended data set PLUS make sure ioperm is selected...I tried using a lesser number of files by deselecting some but eneded up with similar messages relating to DLL's missing etc etc.
I started a fresh with a new download and installed as per Pantaloonie's instructions and "bing", hsect2 worked.
Pantaloonie, do you think we got a different file set off pof's site? Seems we might not have the same files as some others? Mind you, entering the command line info is straightforward - the buttons do look savvy tho....
No joy
Many thanks for the great suggestions. However despite follwing it word by word I have same problem. i.e. ioperm is installed but service fails to start.
and hence hsect2 has no effect.
I then reverted back to vista. swtiched on WIFI and bluetooth. I earlier had an acronis image of the clean install xp. It was a breeze to resotore the xp with all the drivers installed.
I am happy to share the acronis image. it took a lot of effort to install all drivers and can be realy helpful for some one looking to install XP. problem is it is almost 4gb in size and I cant find a free web service to upload it.
