12Gb microSDHC vaporware? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Accessories

I've seen release dated for this larger 12gb memory card fall back over and over ... and now no retail shops are offering a due date of when this memory is to be released.
Did anyone get their hands on a 12gb card?
Was the 12gb skipped over?
Now I see sandisk announcing the soon to be released 16gb next month (June). Are we going to see the same for the 16gb card?

It was always my understanding that SanDisk had made the 12GB card as a proof of concept that was never intended for retail sale -- just something to demo at trade shows until the 16GB cards were ready.

16gigs ... can't wait

SDHC supports up to 32GB.

I don't think they are available yet, when you try to order one, it says "out of stock".
Hopefully we'll see them somewhere in June

the cpu usage will peak to 100% and skip frames left and right with the porn.. so yeah.. that will drain the batteries.. i'll just use my zune =/ hate this damn htc phone. i miss the wizard. it made the tilt inferior in video quality. ugh

Way too funny. You can also hold songs, videos, movies, games, gps maps, programs, not to mention portable pc applications you can use via usb. Of course, you can have loads of porn to (ahem) keep you (and hapy go lucky bystanders, lol) focused until the train arrives. Make sure you have a spare a/c adapter as well. and perhaps the kaiser video driver or update will be a motivating factor to watch/play movies, videos, & games.

According to that mymemory.co.uk link the TyTnII will only address 8Gb. Is that just that they haven't tested it with any bigger cards? HTC quote 8Gb too.

well it is 32, it probably old info

what idiot designed SDHC to only go to 32GB!? We ran into the space problem at 2GB and they thought of only extending it to 32!? We are going to be there VERY soon and wont be able to go over! Whats next? SDSHC (SD Super High Capacity)? I bet they will only extend that to 64GB.

Can't wait for 32Gb - will finally be able to keep all my music in there, synched with my iPod which spends most of its time in the car now.

"It uses the same form factor as SD, but the SD 2.0 standard in SDHC uses a different memory addressing method (sector addressing vs byte addressing), thus theoretically reaching a maximum capacity of up to 2048 GB [2 terabytes]. However the SD Card association have artificially defined the maximum limit of SDHC capacity to 32 GB. "

Who is to say that 32 GB can't or won't be surpassed in the SDHC format?

4gb mini sd card

Before I splash out out on this card...will it work OK in my Wizard ?
http://www.imatephonestore.com/acce...te K-Jam&accMDL=MEM_MINI4GB&sameAs=IMATE_KJAM
I am pretty sure there are NO 4 gb minisd cards on the market. There have been a few stories of skams that would make me v wary. I have been watching the market/forums for months and seen absolutely no credible reports of one in existence.
I have magnified the picture of the claimed 4gb minisd card - and to my eyes it looks duped! the 4 is not in line or same font as the 0 - what do others think?
Yeah, there are 4gb cards
But I am not sure that the one you linked to is legit.
No branding for the manufacturer of the card itself is my biggest clue as to not believe it.
From another Forum
it deals with the sda but here is some info from HOFO

Ok friends now Yep they were meant to come out 1st or 2nd Q this year but I think manufacturers have withdrawn because of microsd cards and I reckon they are investing in these. I would like the manufacturers to prove me wrong though because many think 4 and 8 gb minisd cards are feasible.
sandisk's site and wikipedia both say 2gb is the max
I don't know if you guys checked but 4gb sd's are out. I don't understand the difference btwn sd and mini. They are supposed to be the same but just smaller.
I have not seen any 4.0 GB miniSD's. The font on the picture is definitely fake. The "4" is of different font type and size. My advice is "DON'T BUY IT". It's a scam!
OP: No, it will not work in your Wizard....
good lord...
It looks like a lot of people here really need to do a bit of research before flapping their lips about things they are not informed about.
4gb MiniSD cards do in fact exist.
However, the Wizard can not recognize it because of the size. It can only see 2 gigs of a 4 gig card... so it is pretty much useless until there is some type of firmware update that would allow them to see all 4gb of the card.
Like I said though... the phones only see them as 2gb cards because of firmware limitations.
Just a thought . . .
So, since there is a 2gb limitation, I wonder if you partitioned the card to 2 - 2gb partitions if it would address that (probably not) but seeing as I do not have one - it is a question that idly went through my mind.

Thanks gldrush98 for those images- do you own one? You will find i have done quite alot of research and i dont flap  The prophet - v similar firmware can manage a 4gb sd card without a problem as can the older magician. http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32265&start=25
Sometimes the card needs to be at least 2gb full for the card to be fully recognized or formatted on the device with storage tools or the like.
Best to be formatted to fat16 not fat32 - thats why its probably not working properly in the wizard. Many 2gb cards even dont work on the wizard if formated to fat32.
You can also partition your memory card - see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=52380&highlight=format+4gb
This is the orig post that those images came from http://www.bengalboy.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=584&forum=8&post_id=4043
and it looks like the poster bought the card from the same link as the first post. So it may be legit.

8 gb is a possiblity for universal? is nuclear right?

well im sure some of you have read post from this guy. about how he is able to read files from his eight gb sd card in is uni even tho it only says 2 gb on his device. has anyone else gotten one of these supposed magical cards and tried it out? i searched on ebay and it seems to be that only one guy has or sells this specific card . is nuclear advertising for this guy , is he a scammer or is this true and we dont know about it yet. please give input if you have gotten one of these cards and have tested it out.
Even all those 4GB SD-cards are already non-standard and not working in most of the devices. From 4GB upwards they have to be SDHC-cards (SD 2.0) which are not supported by the Universal's reader. Sure, it would be possible to manufacture 8GB SD-cards, but it's very unlikely that they work in a lot of devices since SD was never meant to have more than 2GB.
Cheers,
-mARKUS
well i just saw today that a treo that was supposedly not able to support sdhc is now able to because of a firmware update. check engadgetmobile.com if that can be done with a treo why not the universal. if its a software problem im sure there are people in here that are able to help
Sorry about my long post but i am trying to give as much information as i can in one post.
I am requesting ROM builders to start firmware upgrades to support these 4GB and 8GB cards. Windows Crossbow doesnt support 4GB or 8GB SD only cards, instead it reads them and reformats them changing the firmware of the card to 2GB!!!!... I havent tried SDHC yet. Here are pictures of my 4GB Extreme III SanDisk SD only card. I couldnt upload it here so i zipped them and uploaded them to rapidshare. Helmi's AKU 3.5 ROM doesnt read a card formatted using Crossbow... i dont know its just too many details. I cant think. But I just want to let you guys know that you are right so far on your research. Keep the good work up!
http://rapidshare.com/files/8938902/sandisk_tech_support.zip
I emailed sandisk tech support these images. It seems they havent replied yet. Keep a track on all my threads as i keep posting about these cards everywhere.
Trust me its just because i have a lot of money that i am able to get my hands on these things. And i just keep posting my observations. I would even get my hands on the 32GB card if I could bribe the CEO of SanDisk.
It got reformatted to 2GB.. I am unable to make it 4GB again.
My 8GB card as you can see in pictures on ebay is a samsung make. Its also SD only. 8GB SDHC cards are available to be bought. They are a bit slower then normal SD cards and are cheaper too.
32GB cards will be coming soon in SD or SDHC i believe. I read it in news. Like its totally upto you to believe me or not, my information is very helpful to me but i still encounter problems and it seems not even sandisk can help me
Anyways so its a farse that Universal's SD card readers dont support SDHC. And you can file a lawsuit on SanDisk or Samsung for that. They just want you to spend more money into buying a SDHC card reader.... Truly its the ROM.
ok now i know u r full of shyt. u keep popsting that u have this card and it works but i have yet to see ne photos. u just like the attention u get from lieing through ur teeth. thats pretty sad

SDHC compliant devices work with SDHC cards, SD devices do not.
You may be lucky to get one that you can read from, but an SD device will not write to it without screwing it up.
The Universal is SD not SDHC

this is total bull, i have came to two conclusions after reading all these post.
1 -now it seems like the only person that sells this specific card that nuclear has is fastmemoryman and he is advertising for him. IF that is the case then i tell u guys not to deal with this scammer cause i bought from him before and was sent a 2 gb card disguised as a 4.
2- Nuclear does indead have a 8 gb card from samsung and is able to put his dvd in it but because sd 2.0 IS backward compatible as i have read it from several sites you are able to use only 4 gb of the 8. so he is putting his dvd in the card but only one movie,
those are the only two possible conclusion there is . so if its not number 1 then its number 2

Have we given up on the SDHC card driver?

Or is there any one still working on this? Just what we need to make the BA truly invincible.
Apparently yes. Unless we get the source code from the original driver and some talented programmer to update it, I don't think we will ever have SDHC on BA... :/
I will be willing to donate up to 200 bucks to the guy who will make this possible and make it freely available.
Maybe, we should have a schema for card reader of this device, thanks to this we could replace older by new SDHC card reader. Hope, we would have someone talented.
It's really a shame for this wonderful PDA...
Save your 200 bucks and buy a 4Gb Transcend SD card (non-SDHC) mine works a treat in my BA, 4Gb is heaps of space. I paid around $40AUD including postage on eBay.

Of course, but some of us are really ambitious and want 8 and 16Gb storage cards!!
I have a 8GB SDHC on my Universal, and it makes all the difference...
Presently using 4gb on my BA and seriously short of space, only 150mb left. I have a Universal but with WM6.1, it has virtually no program memory. After installing spb pocket plus/mobile shell, I can't install htc home. I can't even run serious apps without crashing out on memory. A big shame. On the other hand, my BA runs all these and has more than 30mb program memory free. I guess I have to send my Uni to ppctech for a memory upgrade.
I was just about to post asking if anyone knew why the patch, available elsewhere, wasn't working on BA....?
I had thought it was for alll devices running WM6....was something missed out when WM6 for BA was made?
I bought a 4GB SDHC previously for it not knowing it wouldn't work. waste of money and a real shame. Student budget meant I couldn't afford to buy another. Bummer :-(
I'll chuck £10 in for whoever can get this to work.
So that's £210 now. Anyone else keen to add to the pot?
Just to bring this back up to where people will see it ;-)
This has edged beneith the beyond again ;-)
Just nudging it up. SDHC would be *awesome* but is it possible??
Also I'll up my cash to £15 - and for an enpoverished student that's loads!
I'm guessing dead silence with no more discussion means it's not happening and there are technlogical road blocks in the way?
Can someone reply just so I know I'm not alone in the universe?
You are not alone!
I'm here, but I'm not a progger....
maybe I'll make some research on this topic in Summer, but now I'm too busy with exams, sorry!
Maybe this is the solution
Can anyone tell if this works in the Blue Angel:

That's probably just your micro SD card.
Nope. It's there. App storage is 2gb (which by the way is an insane amount.) The 16gb is internal storage for other stuff like media and files that your apps create and use.
Go to the program on your phone called files and hit 'Home'. That's your 16gb and the folder in there called 'sd' is your external SD card.
2gig for app(which is plenty),12gig for internal, and 8gig for sd
Coming from mytouch 3g and g1 I have no complaints
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

what do you need more than 2gb for?
I am only semi-angry about the Epic only getting 1GB. The DROID and many other phones have only 256MB or so, and most of those users get long more or less fine, and froyo makes it a non-issue.
who would want more than 2gb? seriously! I had a 512mb partition on my G1 and the same on my N1. holding over 150 apps and didnt even come CLOSE to filling that up, and thats only 25% of what the vibrant has. sheesh.
Once Froyo is out you'll be able to use the full 16GB for app storage.
Kind-of. Not all apps can be moved to SD with Froyo's Apps2SD implementation, some ("protected" ones) still have to stay in the normal App storage.
The phone shouldn't be marketed as such if you don't have access to even half of the advertised storage. its pretty misleading.
well when in the heck is froyo coming out? I ordered a 32gb card for mine which will all be here tuesday. and i will throw this g1 as far as i can!!!!!

You're kidding, right? It has a formatted capacity of 12.7gb of internal storage. That's the same as having a permanently installed 16gb microSDHC card, with a 2gb partition for apps.
I guess some people just aren't happy unless they can load all 100,000 apps on the Market into their phone.

MicroSD is 2gb and replaceable by any MicroSD you buy in the store.
Internal is 16gb split up like this:
Apps - 2gb
Storage - 14gb
The 14gb internal storage is mounted on:
/sdcard
Your SD card is mounted on:
/sdcard/sd

The actual App is not 100megs, the apps are like 1-5 megs...the extra 100megs that needs to be downloaded to play said app is stored wherever you decide, whether thats on the internal memory or on an sd card. It is not taken into account in the 2gb storage for app space.
So in that case 2gb is plenty enough for whats out there right now...trust us!

[Q] Actual space on the Nexus 7?

I was wonder, the OS takes up space, but how much space? I pre ordered the 8 gig but if the OS takes more than a gig or so, I think I'm going to upgrade to the 16 gigs.
What do you guys think or if one of you have it, how much actual space doe sit have?
I searched for it and could not find anything.
Thank You In Advanced.
I think they said in some article that with the 8gb one, with the preloaded magazines and some apps, they had about 5.6gb left over. Hope this helps.

Wow, that doesn't leave us with much honestly... I think I have to switch it to the 16 gigs.
You also have to remember that they come preloaded with a movie which will take up a good deal of space

That's about what it's left on a kindle fire running a cm9 ROM.

I just contacted google hopefully they will let me alter the order to 16gb, if it was just for data 8gb would be plenty for me but as its fixed after purchase for £40 extra it makes a bit of sense to chose the larger size
edit: just looked on my TF101 and Galaxy s2 and, on the tf101 I have 600mb of apps and on the S2 I have about 1gb of apps, so I could probably manage with the 8gb version I will decide what to do when google get back to me

I wonder if the movie is actually stored on the device or if it's kept in the cloud.
Micro USB
The Tech Specs says that the Nexus 7 memory is internal.
pdadb.net says that the Nexus 7 supports up to 32gb of memory.
I've read is several forum responses that the 16gb tablet has a micro SD card and that the 8gb one doesn't, but I've not been able to corroborate that on any of the official web sites.
I'm waiting to read a tear down report to see what is actually inside the Nexus 7 tablet. (Too much unsubstantiated information is being posted in the forums)

I haven't held a Nexus 7 yet, but of all the pictures, videos and reviews I've seen there has been no mention of a microSD slot included on the device. That seems like a far cry.

I've watched quite a few hands on videos.
There is no sd card slot.
Yea everyone is complaining that there is no SD card slot, so I don't think there is one.

But if you think about it, everyone who got one at I/O has an 8gb version. Nobody actually owns a 16gb version yet. I know it probably isn't possible, but it would be cool if they added a little more hardware to the 16gb version to help justify the $50 price jump. Either way, it's the one I'm buying.

This works great. I have the 32gb.

Monkeyluis,
How long is the battery life on your Wi-Drive? How many unique devices can it serve simultaneously?
The Wi-Drive came out (I think) after I bought a Seagate Satellite, or I might have bought the Wi-Drive instead. The pros of the Satellite is that it holds 500gb and can serve unique content simultaneously to about 5 users before it bogs down (with hacked firmware). The cons are that it's a lot bigger than the Wi-Drive appears to be and it's battery is only good for about 5 hours or so. With the lower price of the Wi-Drive, it looks really good -- particularly if it has something approaching 10 hours of battery life.

If you're streaming movies yes I think it could last 8-10 hrs. I have not used it for that long at once though. You can have up to 3 unique devices at once. The wi-drive is pretty small, light & thin. Easy to slip into a pocket or extra pocket in a bag.

Does the device have to be by you to use it?

But wouldn't it be better if they just put a micro sd slot on the bloody thing? 8gb is a joke, but an extra £40 / £50 for another 8gb is an insult!
I was interested / excited but I think I'll give this one a miss.

The reason why they did not add a SD card slot, at least to my belief, because it would make the tablet slower. It takes more processing power to go through the SD and what not then the local HD. That's why I think iPhones and what not are less laggy because it maximizes it's processors for its dedicated hard drive and it does not have to sift through the others which makes it a bit faster.

Of course. I'm just providing a solution for those that want the extra space.
