Storage Ram VS. RAm Ram??? - Touch CDMA General

ok well i know this soudns like a dumb question.. but...
if i store programs on my touch, like opera, slingplayer mobile, touch settings ETC, will that eat up my RAM. So like will my phone run slower?? Or does it come with BUilt in RAM for storage, and then an extra 128 RAM for like running apps?? If its using the same ram... I would much much rather, store all my progs on a memory card accept for the basics? anyone>?

if this is true, can i also delete all the sprint bloat ware... sprint music, video, on demand, software store. If it is taking up storage space, that is ok, but if its take up speed space i do not want that to happen?

Hi,
No - your programs are in storage memory. They don't eat ram (..or make your device any slower) unless you actually run them.
The touch has plenty of storage memory - so you're fine installing most things on here...
-mark

great! lol, it sounded dumb, but i was not sure. My next question is.. what kind of program memory does it have, like running speed, not storage... Also can i delte some start up stuff. IDK if sprint has some bloatware that i dont use running in the background, can i delete it off my phone? Also can i delete the sprint apps off my phone? Anything to do this, so i will have more program memory and storage memory.
My goal... Store on phone...
Opera Mobile
Slingplayer Mobile
Touch Settings
Resco
Few Other apps
Pictures...
on 8 GB Micro SD
Music and Video

anyone??? help please lol

look in \windows\startup
thats programs that autostart
if you remove the shortcuts they will not start
another thing is that it may not help speed at all
in windows having more memory help speed because then windows
dont have to swap to the harddisk
but with windows mobile there is no swap
if a program dont have enough mem it will not start it will not just run slower
vogue and elf have rather slow cpu's that could be the root of your problem

vogue has a 400 mhz processor? That is just as fast as mogul...

how about i might have posted earlier, deleting some sprint apps. On demand, Sprint Music, SPrint Tv. Can you delete those. I am going to customize my cube, and i dont want sprints garbage to be on my phone when i will never even use it...? Anyone??

More Program Memory???

I wanted to know is there a way to use the storage card for program memory?
I run PIE and try to run WMP at the same time and the phone really slows down.
sometimes I am just playing music and it eats up so much program memory even when I closed all other apps...
even just pocket IE it slows down a lot when im not even doing much on it
anyone knows how can it be done IF it can be done?
I'm surprised you're having trouble with program memory using just those 2 apps. Are you sure that's your problem? How much program memory do you see after booting? How much after launching each of those apps.
Now, PIE can use a lot of storage memory for caching pages. You *can* relocate that cache to an SD card, if desired.
Back to your initial question, you can increase program memory slightly by patching your ROM to reduce the page pool size. I've done that and it's improved stability and performance of certain large applications I run, PIE and WMP aren't any of them though.
PIE and WMP
There is no way to convert storage to program memory. They are physically different types of memory. You can minimize the use of program memory as mentioned above. That said, PIE is just slow. You can use a WiFi connection and overclock, but you can only do so much. WMP is known to suck memory, and will use whatever you give it. If you aren't using DRM, you can try TCMP or Gsplayer which are free and use less resources if you think it might help to have more memory available. (But I would be surprised if it made much difference.) Check out Smartskey or Omapclock or Batterystatus for overclocking.

Nice looks like it runs very well.
Impressive
Thats how my phone works to =) smooth and nicely =)
very impressive indeed!
Very very impressive!
Now you can pretty much guess that there is dedicated RAM for the 3D chip on that device...
Awesome, now we got the best of both worlds
Anyone who has this applied on their Xperia... can you tell if it is easy to disable Touch Flo 3D? or uninstall it?

yes to disable start>settings>personal>today untick tf3d
not tried uninstalling it, cant see why you'd want to its fantastic!
i wouldn't be uninstalling - after i do get it - but just wanted to know if it is possible to disable. Thanks.
is everyone installing this to their device or storage card? the TF3D app is rather large.
is there a difference to installing to the device or storage card in terms of speed? i'd assume running it off the device would be faster, but maybe so minute that it's not even noticeable? i have never noticed a decrease in speed of apps running off the storage card, but apps i use very often, i always install to the device over storage card.
also, if your spare memory is full, will applications run slower?

We have huge amounts of space, dont even think about trying it on the storage card!
I have this and quite alot of other apps on my X1, I have 131 mb of free storage and on average 125mb of free ram! there's only two apps I run off my storage card, and mainly 'cos the maps are there.

is it better to save in device or storage card? Does it matter

My phone is kinda slow and i was wondering if it makes any difference where i save my programs......Any suggestions on what to do?
I just got my phone and installed a recommended app called oxios.
A friend of mine had the tmobile wing, and it was operating really slowly too. I beamed that app over to him and it made his phone operate much much better.
I'd store stuff on your card, keeps the phone memory free to use and then its also removable if you want to loan some data to a friend or something.
To get Oxios, look at the thread I made called "Sprint Mogul must haves"
Yeah I agree...
Most stuff can be put onto the card.
I only put onto phone storage the stuff I use ALL the time or stuff that HAS to be there or running in the background(like MSVC, dialers, themes, sounds, etc)
I use wisbar advanved desktop and S2U2. I installed THOSE to phone memory along with various themes. It is running all the time and is quicker waking up when the phone rings etc. Ringtones should be on phone memory also.
All my games, other apps (like oxios, gps maps, youtube player, tvguide, aim, etc) are on the card. Because those I use/run them and when I'm done I close them.
Hope this makes sense....
I tried to download the file but it wont let me...do you know somewhere else i can get it? thanks

Generally, it won't make your phone slow if you have a lot of items loaded in local flash ROM. What typically makes it slow is having a number of background tasks that are running. Do you use taskmanager or something to close the excess junk?
Typically, if you have a program that runs on the today screen or in the background, load it in local ROM. If it is huge or seldom used, load it on the storage card.
If you install an app on the storage card, it may be a little slower to load into ram when you start it. Usually that isn't a problem though.
Ok. so I was thinking of installing manila and the opera browser. should i install them on the storage card?
I wouldn't put either of those on the storage card. As worwig said the speed of your device has only to do with the processor load, which can never be too much since the ram will never allow the titan to over bombard the processor. So, it really all boils down to open ram. The more you have generally the better proformance you are going to get. If it is really bad to the point where you open your phone and you have to wait more than half a second for the screen to flip I would recommend a hard reset or more effective install dcd's 3.2.6 or 3.3.4. Then install each program soft reset and find which program is causing the memory drain.

I personally prefer to save larger or less frequently used apps and all backups on a storage card. Just in case I need to do a hard reset or something goes wrong. Also a good practice is to have partial backups so if you need to get raid of some apps you could restore only what you need.

RAM/Memory Low Problems

For some reason, I don't see too many complaints about low memory issues - yet I have always had problems with my RAM.
I have almost all of my programs installed on my SD card to try reduce any of my memory usage - but if I run PIE, MSN Messenger, or try to play music, I almost always have low memory messages come up.
I usually have one program running in the background - Slide to Unlock - but as far as I know its not that memory intensive?
Any insight on how I can fix this?
Thanks!
Are you running an elf or an elfin? If your not sure.....go to start-->settings-->system-->device information-->hardware. What does your RAM size read? If its 64MB its an elf.....if it says 128MB its an elfin. Your saying you've installed all your applications on the storage card. How much free space do you have for program memory on your phone? Your phones needs free memory in order to run applications too. Perhaps its running low on that end? Two things you should do:
1. Move any extra files, photos, videos or anything else that you might have saved on the phone memory to the storage card. Use activesync. Its faster that way.
2. Clear out your browser history and temp files. This could most probably be your culprit as they take up space too...and you don't necessarily see this upfront. Goto Start-->Internet Explorer-->Menu-->Tools-->Options-->Memory Tab.

I've been having "Insufficient memory" errors while trying to run SpB Backup, and have deleted all sorts of applications, but nothing seemed to free up enough memory. Then I tried your advice, and everything is working as it should!
Thanks!!
I have an elf - usually when I close all of my processes, except my stumble to unlock, I'll have approx. 15mb/47 free in my program memory. 10/28 of my storage space is free.
I've tried to clear all of my temp files... even made it so that all my temp files/PIE files are put on my storage card through SK tools, but still have the same issues.
As soon as I run my HTC music player with the one or two background apps, it almost always pops up with memory issues. Browsing with PIE is almost impossible for any period longer than 5 minutes.
I've tried it with several configurations and I always have the same results, even if I have no background processes - I still have the same issues.
Are you using a cooked ROM? Come to think of it, I never had many problems with the original shipped ROM. I was normally running S2U2, PocketMusic, Opera Mini and SpbMobileShell back then.
You mean to say you can't even run one application at a time without running out of RAM? Soft reset. And if you use SKTools like you say you do, try running Free Up RAM, select all options.
In your shoes I'd probably move everything I want to storage card, (you should want more than 10mb storage) try a hard reset and install my most used apps again. Oh, and what is your PagePool size? Try here to find out about that. It should be 4mb.
Your primary problem is indeed the fact that you are running out of space on your phone. 15mb for program memory especially on heavy usage is quite insufficient. Especially if your going to be multi tasking and running several applications at once. I would move ALL my installed programs and anything else I may be able to get my hands on, to the storage card. Try to squeeze out atleast 25-30mb out of your program memory. This should give your phone some more breathing space.
This might be to use of you to try it out.

hi
I had the same problem before but now my touch runs fine now & haven't got any issues till now. Use advanced task manager and pocket mechanic. These application will keep ur pocketpc in good shape.
Very good, Thanks.

sd card vs mainmemory

would there be ever be a hack that can turn you memorycard into your mainmemory just likee the iphone haves built in memory.Because hate running out of memory on my windowsmobile phones and have the apps i use dont even really save to the memory card its always using the main memory

What apps are you talking about. most memory space goes to pics and music, which can be stored on the card. And you can install extract programs on your card instead of you internal memory.
fmadr
but that using up my memory i save everthing to my memory card but main memory still be draining it self dont know why
SD cards are only ever storage memory. The card behaves like a disk drive, that appears to be connected to the mount point '\Storage Card', or whatever your machine is configured to call it, there is a registry hack to change it if you want.
Storage space must be read into main memory, before the CPU can get at it. Access time is pretty quick, but nowhere near main memory speeds.
It's there for storing stuff as its name implies. Apps, data, movies, music, etc etc. It's not much use for anything else.
It sounds like you're confusing program and storage memory. If you're getting program memory errors, then you need to get a task manager and get better control of running applications/processes, or get a task manager that closes applications instead of minimizing them with the 'x' button.
If you are having storage memory issues, then you need to check for log files that might be hogging all the storage memory. Or get a utility like ClearTemp to empty out temporary folders. If you do a lot of streaming, sometimes you can get large stream dumps that aren't properly deleted and that hog a lot of memory.

You have probably some large log files, created by ActiveSync or some other program. Use SKTools or something similar to find it, clean Your main memory and disable the logging once You know where it comes from. That way it doesn't fill up Your main memory.

thanks using sktools way better in so good. oh and there any developers out there
SD-Card Driver 4 Read Speed
Hello all,
While mentioning SK-Tools ;
Not so long ago I stumbled over this thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2915068&postcount=1
So use SK-Tools its benchmarking capabilities to test your SD-Card before(!) and after the 'driver' (tnyynt SD TuneUP) mentioned above is installed!!!
It's kinda technical and a lot of 'know how' is discussed, but the main thing = tnyynt SD TuneUP, I assure you, will boost your SD-Card READiNG-PERFORMANCE!!!
Ofcourse, making a backup in advance could make a difference for everyone installing this,
Senax
P.S. I did not make a backup in advance!
How many sms & email do you have, both of these save to the main memory, a few hundred+ will soon fill it up. Internet Explorer cache is the other one to check. These are the 2 biggest memory users.
Can you cook? If so Extendir endir may help in achieving more free Main Memory space...
Hope this helps.
they should make you be able to use you memory card as your main memory or least fix instead of worrying about the windowsmobile7series that not coming out in the end of this year.
