Your first task should be to set right ActivSync as that plays a vital role in transfering files to BA. Uninstall existing version on PC and install a fresh 4.5 or later version. Then connect BA to PC through USB, PC should recognize your BA and ask for partnership. Go and finish that. Once you have a clean installation of activsync on pc and you have establised the partnership between pc and BA thru ActivSync, try to synch your data with PC.
Your next step should be to install programs. Create a folder "Cabs" on Storage card and through explore of ActivSyc, copy cabs to this folder. Later on, look a the files through File Explorer and double click each cab file to install them.

Hard reset helped with both problems.

Can't Copy Files From 9100 To PC

Hello all!
Many days now i have a problem which i can't solve after all my tries.
I own a Qtek 9100 with the WWE 1.6.7.1 Rom and the ActiveSync v4.1.0 (Build 4841). The problem is that i can't cut or copy files from the ppc to pc.
Neither the files are in main memory nor in the storage card. When i choose to copy the progress bar is shown and the little blue cubes go till end but then no file/s in the pc.
Vice versa-from pc to ppc-there isn't any problem.
Please enlight me!
TIA
Have you tried to disable the software firewall (if you have one) before connecting the ppc to the pc?
That helped me.
Foxtrot
I don't have a firewall. Don't even the Windows' one.
Anyone that can help?

I am experiencing this same problem on my desktop. However, I can copy fine to my laptop.
I am still trying to find out what exactly is causing it. Uninstalling & reinstalling ActiveSync did not help. However, I have found that it is copying the files from my Wizard to a temp folder on the PC. It is just not moving it from the temp folder to the true destination. If it helps at all, the temp folder is "C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\<username>\LOCAL SETTINGS\TEMP\_PEGEX~1" (replace "<username>" with your Windows login username). For now, I try to copy a file & let ActiveSync put it into that folder, then I go to that folder and move it to where I want it.
Thanx for the reply shdwphnx but there isn't any folder with the name _PEGEX~1. I searched in TEMP for anything similar folder but no luck.
I uninstalled/reinstall activesync, did a firmware upgrade to ppc but still nothing.
I've found a solution for this problem in this site. Here it is:
If you are having problems with partial synchronizations or missing notes, try re-registering the OLE32.dll. This is done by clicking on "Start" and then select "Run". Then in the box for the Run Command and type: Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll
Download the latest version of Activesync v 4.5 and run on winxp.secondly check your usb cable connectivity of the phone with your pc.

Unable to install programs via activesync.

i've tried to install AIM... and a webcam program.. both of which install through active sync.. however everytime I try I get the following message on my phone...
"Installation of (whatever).CAB was unsuccessful." and that's about all I get.
Also whenever I connect the phone to my PC is says it's unable to successfully syncronize and asks me to reconnect the device.
MS's support site has been less than helpful... any help you all can give would be greatly appriciated....
Installation problems.....
I am having the same problem too.
Even after a hard reset when I try and install Sprite Backup & Agenda Fusion I keep getting the install error: 'cannot be installed, try another location'
It's driving me up the wall! I would have thought after a hard reset this wouldn't be an issue. I'm now the proud owner of an MDA Pro (Universal) that I can't use because the software I want to install won't install.
Can anyone help me please?
Hi,
Couple of things you might consider / try: -
Establish an activesync connection, then use the "explore" button, navigate to your staorage card, and manually copying the .cab file from your pc to the storage card.
Then on the treo go to file explorer, storage card, and run the cab from the card.
The other thing is to check that you're using activesync 4.1 or later - updates are a free download from MS.
Hope this helps
Angus
Thank you for your suggestions.
Unfortunately i've already tried copying the CAB files straight to the device and launching them produces exactly the same result.
I'm also already using Activesync 4.2 latest version.
Is there anything else I can try?
judging from your sig, you're using a pretty old rom version... I would definitly upgrade it and then give it another go...

Programs or Games will not install

Hi all,
Having a spot of trouble trying to install anything onto my MDA Vario, I generally search for WM5 software/games and everytime I try to install I get this message.
XXXXX is not a valid pocket PC application
Any clues?
Thanks
Sounds like your installing an exe that needs to be installed via pc using activesync. You can download activesync from the M$ website. The latest version is 4.2 as far as i know.
If you are downloading exe files, try opening them on the pc first. Most of the exe files are installation files that need to be executed from the computer. Some, very few, are actually compiled executables that only have to be copied to the PPC and run from there.
You will also come across CAB files. These files are my preference because you just copy them to the PPC and execute it there, and it installs the files right on the PPC.
Had a problem running activesync, it used to loop my pc when I attached the device. Since then I reinstalled XP Pro OS and reinstalled activesync (probably old version conflicting)
It now works a treat and loads up all my software!
Many thanks

Is not a valid pocketpc application

I downloaded a lot of windows pocketpc applications for my Xperia and none of the worked... The following message comes up: "Is not a valid pocketpc application"
I had a lot of 2003, windows 5, and 6 applications, and games and they cant install or open!
How can I fix this?
RE:
Did you just copy the applications straight to your Xpreia then run the files? If so, you need to run most pocket apps on a PC first, then when you connect your Xperia to a PC then a window will pop up showing you the applications that need to be installed onto your Xperia. This is all Automatic, as long as you have installed the Phone onto your PC.
Hope this helps.
Joel
Yeah, that's the only real stupid crap on WM.
I could install any app on Symbian right on phone.
Why the hell they don't make all .CAB's??
I understand with big files, but with 100kB thing is plain stupid,
the whole idea of mobility dies with this.
P.S. I also have some apps like that, so what do I do?
Install it first on PC? And than what, uninstall it after installing on phone??
If you have it "install" on your pc only, it always leaves a .cab file somewhere to be downloaded to your phone later. That's how I extracted the CAB files from the executables I have anyway.
99% of apps can be obtained as cab. Only few I had to install manually (ie there was no CAB or PC EXE installer).
Most are avaialble also aso PC exe, but if someone bothers with EXE installer, he usually has CAB too (in fact he has to, since the PC installation shows some funky windows and then it simply copies the CAB to WM device).
Which is also where you can get the CAB. Unpack the EXE installer (very often possible, Total Commander can do that for example), locate the CAB inside it, and install the CAB manually.

So you had plain luck,
50% of the apps which I want are these f**n .exe. Without any .CAB inside.
But I still didn't get how is the standard operation from PC.
What do I do first? Install the .exe on my computer and than connect phone? And what than?
sync your mobile with activeSync, install the application through pc, activeSync will start the installation on your mobile
Connect the phone to the PC via ActiveSync.
Run the exe on the PC. It installs on PC and copies the cab installer to the phone via ActiveSync. The phone should start the installation automatically.
I still wonder .. what applications are those ?

Great, thanks guys for replies.
I assume while installing I can choose the place of installation (phone/card....)
P.S. Can the .cab installer stay on device, for quick reinstall after upgrade?
Or you have to connect to PC again?

Unable To Install Software

Hi Everyone,
New member here. First timer to WM phones. Bought the Hermes 2 months back, which came upgraded with WM6., but since then unable to connect to PC. Device not detected via ActivSync 4.5. Also downloaded some software from http://www.htcfreeware.com/ , but , some ( Like Skype ) dont install , message " This is not a PPC software " , any tips ?
pretty much all exe you download for ppc are exe files for the pc not the ppc
when you get installl programs for ppc they are called cab
the exe files are pc programs which using activesync install the cab on the ppc
if you try to run a pc progra on a ppc you get the error msg
" This is not a PPC software "
sometimes one can on the pc rename the exe to zip as many are just selfextracting zip files
and then manualy copy out the cab file
