Can not access internet at home using USB connection - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom General

Hi All,
I could not access internet at home using USB connection (active sync is OK). But in the office it works well. Is there anything wrong with my PC at home? Thanks.

in activesync go connection setting and chose "The Internet" in the "This computer is connected to:"
If it still failed please do check your firewall setting
Hope this helps

Thanks. But I checked the option and it is "The internet". For firewall, I don't even have one... So strange, right?

can you try delete mobile device on your activesync and re-setup again?
Or check if you have the default window bulitin firewall?
Is your activesync the latest version?
Sorry dunno your problem can only help u troubleshoot

Thanks ckaidi. My active sync is ver 4.5 and the default firewall is disabled. I tried delete the mobile phone and active sync then re-installed but the problem is still there .
I wonder whether there are some 'hidden' options in windows...

Use this software...

For those, who want to connect via BT stack. Yes it is not so clear about the APN,but this will connect via your default internet connection, that you're using on the go(The APN is described there):
1.Pair your Himalaya with a PC.
2.Start the Wireless Modem app.and choose Bluetooth. Then tap to Start button. Your device must be in Discoverable mode!
3.Now in computer click to the 'My Bluetooth Places' icon on the desktop.
4.Open the connected Himalaya and click to the SSA service.
5.Now the connection window will appeared. Choose the *99# as a dialed number and click to Dial.
That's it.

Cixi,
I had the same request and was actually coming back to my original post to update it with the information that i got from O2 and finally I managed to set up for oth a USB modem connection and a USB one. I have attached the USB Modem driver but saved as a .txt file so you will have to open it in note pad and rename it as a .INF file (can also be found on the companion CD that shipped with your Atom) to this post (if uploading allows).
Below are the detailed instructions from O2 to set up a USB connection.
Regards
Chris.
Wireless Modem via USB for XdaAtom
a.) Installing USB Modem driver
1. On your PC, launch Microsoft Activesync. Click on File  Connection Setting
2. Uncheck “Allow USB Connections” and “Allow connections to one of the following” then Click “OK”
3. Microsoft Activesync is disabled.
4. On your device, tap on Start  Programs  Modem Link
5. Select “USB” for the from the Connection drop-down menu.
6. Tap on “Active” and connect your USB cable with your device and the USB port on your PC.
7. Windows XP will recognize the device as a new USB device an will start to install the required modem driver.
8. Select “Install from a list or specific location” and Click “Next”
9. Select “Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install”.

And as Kropotov points out, he was very helpful in assisting me on the previous post that he references above and that i was coming back to update prior to seeing your post.
Attached is the set up instructions for BT Modem link.
Diffence is that with USB modem the connection is of course faster than BT. Also your phone can still accept phone calls while your using the USB modem link but go straight to your Voice mail if your using the BT modem connection.
Thank You All.
Do you think it will work with MacBook Pro too?
I left the Atom at home and now I'm around so I can't try your settings in windoz but as soon as I get back I try them so I can tell you more.
I prefer BT communications since I can swap between PC and MAC easly
Thank You anyway great persons here.
Any idea on how could I achive this with SuSe Linux 10 running KDE?

How about Atom Exec as modem to connect my laptop to internet
How about Atom Exec as modem to connect my laptop to internet by using Vista
any idea?
Why All That?
Read first post and was thinking why you need to connect your Atom Life as modem with manual setting while its just one click away
Assuming A) you have GPRS connection and phone data settings are working as told by GSM provider, you can browse on your phone.
Assuming B) On your pc/laptop you must have installed either ActiveSync 4.2 (WinXP) or later or Mobile_Device_Centre in any version of Vista and you are able to connect your phone to pc. NO NEED TO DISABLE, KEEP THEM WORKING.
If you are ready with above two things, just do one following step.
Step 1) Start >> Programms >> Internet Sharing >> Connect. THATS ALL, YOU ARE ALREADY BROWSING ON YOUR PC.
Only two options are seen in INTERNET SHARING, first to select is USB and second is your GPRS connection profile.
Someone please tell me why all those manual things are required, just for browsing on pc/laptop.
thanks
thank you very much!

USB unable to connect; but able to charge

All,
I am currently able to charge my TYTN, but unable to get a USB connection to activesync; any ideas?
I have tried switching off the usb advanced but i doesn't work...
When I soft reset while the USB cable is connected it starts up in bootloader but does not show it is connected via USB.....just nothing but the bootloader startup screen.....
IPL is 1.01 and SPL is 1.04.
My rom is the latest South African....
Ant help would be very nice,

sounds like a firewall problem. Try disconnection from the internet and disable your firewall. If it connects then, adjust the firewall settings before reconnection to the internet.
I had the same problem with EZ Firewall
Nope, it is not the firewall, it used to work perfectly and it suddenly doesn't...
2 different computers have the exact same problem..any ideas?
I'm sure you've probably tried these, but just in case:
Reset device & stop activesync on device (memory/running programs)
Reboot laptop/pc
check in task manager that activesync is not running in the background
Delete existing partnership in Activesync & set it up again

Yeps, tried all of that.....even ahard reset....
But still no succes, now back to syncing via IR....
Just :
START > SETTINGS > CONNECTIONS > USB to PC (then untick this box)
Then try again, worked OK for me!!!
use USB switch program
try install this program in your PPC and after that change activesync via serial instead of RNDIS.
worked on my Unieversal but i do not know yours
i don't think you need this program as it is already available in control panel -> connections -> usb-pc
hellejoep - any progress in solving this problem? I seem to be having the same problem with mine - tried activesync 4.2 and 4.5 on two machines - running the latest SA ROM.

Generic RNDIS Drivers not found & other Problems

Hello,
Just upgraded my 8525 to the latest and greatest ROM. Well ... greatest should really be within quotes!!!
I'm having 2 problems ...
#1) I cannot use my phone thru DUN. I select Internet Sharing. Disable ActiveSync on my PC. Select PC Connection as USB and Network Connection as My ISP GPRS. When I connect the USB cable, I immediately get a message box that New Hardware has been found (Generic RNDIS). Windows (XP-SP2) then prompts me to install the drivers. I click Next but it does not find them and throws an error that Drivers could not be found. I've searched the internet and HTC sites in vain, but cannot find anything that helps.
#2) When I connect my device using ActiveSync (4.5), I cannot get the device to use ActiveSync as a pass-thru for the internet. This results in any calls made to the internet to fail.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm back on the road on Tuesday and need to get this resolved.
Thanks

Mike,
I had tried that earlier today but it did not work. I unzipped the file and pointed the "Find New Hardware" wizard to that directory location. When I click Next it searches and finally returns with "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software".
I'm confused. Aren't the Remote NDIS drivers part of the ActiveSync install? What am I missing here?

I have exactly the same problem, and I still didn't find any solution
I have exactly the same problem, and I still didn't find any solution
I also have the same Problem but a different situation
I would like to tether with my phone which I can do with no problem on most computers. However I have a corporate laptop that I cannot install activesynch on...So i just need the driver to install when I connect my phone via USB.
So i get the same error as the guys above me...so any fix to this problem that does not involve installing activesync would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance

Hi everybody,
Yesterday I had the same problem, but I resolved it.
First, install Activesync 4.5.
Second, when you plug your device and it ask you for the driver generic RNDIS driver, you can choose the place of this driver (don't choose automatic).
So point the "Find New Hardware" wizard to that directory location :
C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Drivers
Then Ok (or next I don't remember)! After windows'd install alone the good driver.
Enjoy your synchronization!
Bye bye
Upgrade ActiveSync

I had this same problem with my HTC Touch Cruise. Here's what solved it:
Go to Settings > Connections > USB to PC
Uncheck Enable advanced network functionality
Then the computer sees your mobile and sync begins (at least for me).
Something worth trying...
If you look at the driver settings for "Windows Mobile Device" under WinXP it shows a file called:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\rndismpx.sys
I'm wondering if the rndismpx.sys file is all one needs to use to install the driver so that WinXP will see the WM phone as a viable device and therefore allow you to use it's Internet Connection Sharing function to give the PC a data connection to the net?

Ok I too had this problem, and refuse to use active sync as it always muck up my special clock settings. This is what fixed it for me.
As i DO have active sync installed on my desktop system, and taking the advice of the persom who posted above, i just copied the "DRIVERS" folder onto a disk (From \Programme files\Microsoft Activesync), took that to the laptop i needed to install on, and installed the driver manually, pointing to the DRIVERS folder on th CD i just made. All installed, and "Pinging" nicely!
