Trinity - multiple little problems - P3600 General

Hi,
First of all, I'm new here and I'm sorry if
a) These questions have been answered here 3748 times or
b) I have put this in the wrong forum/in the wrong format. I decided to group my questions together, in order to avoid cluttering the forum.
If a moderator feels I have posted this inappropriately, I'm happy to correct it, (eg. split this post into three).
So, that much for the disclaimer, don't shoot the noob
First question:
So, I bought a (used) trinity, pretty cheaply, and for the most part have been happy with it. Even got the GPS working, with the official update from the HTC website.
So, now that I knew how the rom flashing process went, I tried flashing the Indigo rom I downloaded from the forum. The problem is, I get stuck in the rom upgrade process, when the flashing is actually supposed to start. The PDA asks me to accept running the EnterBootLoader program, I accept, and the phone restarts, then, the system pops up with "connection lost, error 246 if I remember correctly". The phone returns to normal after a soft reset, so no harm done, but no good either. Is there some solution to this problem I am unaware of. Oh, the same happens when I try to flash hardspl too, so either, the current official ROM has some deviousness about it, or it's my computer. that is to blame.
Second question:
Two times now, my trinity's phone has played some tricks on me. First time, it showed an exclamation mark on the phone networking icon, the second time, all seemed normal, except, I couldn't access the phone settings, and when someone called me, to them it seemed I was just not picking up, but on my phone, nothing seemed to be going on. Is this normal, just another windows being windows, or could this be an indication of a hardware problem, or a problem with the dialer?
Third question:
When I first received the phone, it always tried to use GPRS or 3G to connect when I opened IE, even when there was a perfectly good WLAN connection connected. Upon ROM upgrade, all connection settings were lost. Originally, in the connection view, there were 2 or 3 sets of connection settings, now, there is only one.
- Am I supposed to add sets of settings there?
- I don't know where I am to add the 3g and GPRS settings?
- How do I set WLAN proxies, on the one set of settings I can see on connections, I can set a proxy, but it doesn't seem to work: at school, I can only see the internal network, but can't access the Internet.
I would also need to have two sets of proxy settings, one for school, one for home, is this possible?
Then, some spex from the phone, so you don't have to ask:
OS: WM5
ROM version: 1.23.403.2 (Offical, GPS enabled)
Radio version: 1.38.00.11
Protocol version: 32.71.7020.12H
ExtRom version: 1.23.405.103
Phone sold under name: HTC P3600
Finnish retail version.
Oh and on final note, this is an amazing forum, even if I started reading this a week before I got my phone, and have continued to do so ever since, the amount of information on any given subject related to PDAs and mobiles seems endless. I look forward in your insights in this matter.

Easy HTC Operator Configuration
Hi, if you have lost your Operator settings, there is an easy way
to set these settings :
You only need to download the operator configurator at http://www.planete-htc.com/index.php?mod=telechargements
It works well with Orange for me.
thanks to planete-htc
Hope this can help you.
Regards

OK third question seems answered. You should find network operator settings on the HTC website.
Second Question - try flashing a ROM / Radio ROM again and see if you still have the problem. (For that you'll need an answer to question One
First Question: if this happens, you should leave the phone in bootloader mode (three coloured bars on the screen) make sure it say USB at the bottom of the Trinity screen - make sure you're not using Vista as an OS - use XP. provided the above conditions are met, exit and run the Rom Upgrade Utility again. This time the progress bar should show - start moving - and your ROM will flash. Search Google for trinity guids on how to for vista if that's you case.

Thanks for the answers, first of all,
I actually found out one bit of the problem by searching the forum, it seems my firewall might have been the cause of the ActiveSync problems I've been having. The Kerio Personal firewall seemed to cause the rapimgr.exe to go into a loop, this might have caused problems to the Rom utility as well.
The strange thing is, this problem only stopped when I _uninstalled_ the KPF, not when I turned it off.
I will load the operator settings you mentioned
The only thing left is the WLAN proxy settings, how do I set them, and is there a way to have two sets of them, say, one for each network SSID?

people with GPRS problems...

I am one of those users that is having trouble connecting to GPRS more than once and getting the "unknown reason" problem. Only a soft reset or turn on/off flight mode will fix it. Well I found out what is causing this, at least for my device. I am running Wisbar Advance on mine and is what causing the problem. Once I closed the app, I can connect/disconnect GPRS as I please. I made calls in between also and it still works...
The developer for Wisbar is working on this issue so hopefully he will get this fixed. In the meantime, I have turned off Wisbar..
Hope this is what causing u guys' devices also.
Great info! Just a heads up. I had this problem since I upgraded to the 1.06 ROM however I have never installed Wizbar Advance. The only thing that I could get to fix it was upgrading to the Norwegian 1.11 ROM version or using the 1.10 US Radio stack. Even the Finish 1.11 did not fix the problem.
-Mashie
I have the problem and I'm not using Wisbar. I guess magician_os1.11wwe_bigstorage_6.zip is based on the Finnish ROM?
You can add another application to the list of problem apps (at least this worked for me)
Sygic .mobile contacts seems to mess up GPRS as well.
I've been using the 1.06 WWE rom, and i tried anasky's 1.11 bigstorage rom, and both times, with .mobile contacts installed, i received the "cannot connect for an unknown reason" error, after uninstalling it, GPRS reconnects fine everytime.
Hope this helps some of you.
i changed my sim card to a new one and now i don't get that error. plus i believe that part of that error is the service provider.
hope that helps
I have Qtek 1.11 and same problem too
It is a real pain, I do not have Wisbar, and I can only connect once then need a reset. Any ideas out there?
One cheap solution is to put the phone in flight mode and then go back to reset the GPRS. Not very smooth, but at least better than having to soft reset.

I have tried to turn flight modem on/off but i still get the error
"dialed:isplnk1.swip.net. The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap settings"
Does ne1 know what I can do? so I can use my gprs again. it worked fine just a day ago, and I havent done anythin at all that could cause this problem
I don' t have a magician but a blue angel.
I've got the same problem.
It's the last built of IA Caller ID.
I've make a hard reset with no IA Caller and no problem again.
just double check the settings to make sure that the access point name shows up in the number section of the connection settings, when its not there that can cause the answering modem problems
rgds

I have 2 SIM Cards with the same number, one for the QTek 2020, and one for a Motorola mpx200.
If they are both switched on, then my GPRS is disconnected after about 15 minutes, and I can only reconnect by going in and out of flight mode.
If I switch the Motorola off, then I stay connected, and can disconnect
and reconnect properly.

Never had that error message. Only the one hamsup1o was talking about. Is the Norwegian 1.11 Ananskyfied yet? I want to test if the problem is fixed in that one.
For me, I don't think it's any one piece of software. Since I upgraded my Jam last weekend to 1.11, it continually disconnects from GPRS. Soft resets may or may not correct the problem on the first try so a second reset is in order. Trying to turn Flight Mode On/Off is a chore in itself. I may need to tap "Turn Flight Mode On" several times before it finally does it. Even when GPRS is connected it will only last 5 minutes. Then while still connected, going to a different webpage, says that webpage cannot be found. Very freakin' frustrating!!
So, today at work I backed everything to SD and did a Hard Reset. I then cancelled out of the Operator settings, but allowed the other apps to install and soft reset. I manually added my data settings and connected. Within two minutes I lost my connection. Reset the device and couldn't connect. Reset again and it's fine. It's hit or miss. Restored from backup. Gave a MS Voice Command error so deleted that. Several resets later on the train ride home and it's been fine ever since, for now!
The question is, could this be a T-Mobile problem? I called them yesterday and all they could tell me is that data outages in the Boston area may occur in the evenings due to upgrades. Perhaps it's just a coincidence that I did the ROM upgrade and TMo is acting up. I'm pulling hairs here!!

I have the exact same problem with my Jam on T-Mobile (in Colorado) however it seems to have gotten better with the 1.11 ROM. The strange thing is that it does not ever happen with my 6315 on T-Mobile. I have spoken with their customer services serveral times and we have tried a few different things. The last thing we tried was a brand new SIM card to remove that as a posible problem. Since doing that, I can stay connected to GPRS, take calls and it re-connects with out me doing anything and it seems to have helped.
I have not tried to see if there is any change between wap.voicestream.com or internet2.voicestream.com. Which are you using?
I have the same problem with GPRS and the Cannot connect for an unknown reason. It initially connects fine, but if I disconnect it manually, I cannot reconnect without the soft reset. I started getting this error when I upgraded to 1.11WWE last night. I went back to Version 1.06WWE and the problem was gone so it is defiantely a ROM problem. Imate's Customer "Dis"-Service continues to timeout everytime I go online with them. I am in the process of trying the UK 1.11JAM Rom to see if that makes any difference. I am with T-Mobile USA.
On the Club I-mate forum there are people with this problem as well and one of them is on Cingular!!! So it's not carrier specific.
__________edit
I tried the UK 1.11 ROM and it worked a bit better. There was even a new tab in the GPRS bubble that you could click to disconnect the GPRS rather than holding down the red phone button. But alas, I still got the Cannot Connect for an unknown reason mesage. I'm going back to 1.06 (Thankfully I backed it up) It worked fine. Is anyone having this problem with the Anansky hacked ROM?
Also, why does the UK version come with Skype and the WWE version doesn't?
Could it be due to Activesync?
I too have the GPRS problem, usually it occurs after synchronizing with the PC. The flight mode trick fixes it. I can repeat this behavior and can always fix it, so it remains a nuisance...
Since you can access the internet through Activesync, maybe the OS stays locked in that mode and does not allow for GPRS to be a valid network connection...
Anybody else have similar symptoms?
Mashie, I use internet3.voicestream.com. As you said nothing seems to help.
chinadan, Yes! I had the exact same thing happen to me last night. I've been tinkering with my Jam for the last week trying to get it to work. Last night it was working fine, but then I connected it to my desktop to load PHM Registry and when I disconnected, GPRS started flaking out! Performing a soft reset didn't help.
I've been going back and forth with i-Mate CS, and it's obvious they know there's an issue. They seem to be getting a little testie since I'm basically telling them I'm not an idiot so please get the crap fixed! They had the nerve to send me instructions on how to setup a GPRS Connection on the Jam! What nerve!
Anyway, think I'll try loading the worldwide 1.11WWE and see what happens. Anyone have a backup of 1.06 US 850 ROM?
Thanks and cheers!
Well, I went almost 24 hours without a GPRS problem on my JAM yesterday. I didn't get the usual "Cannot connect for an unknown reason" error message. This time I got a message saying that there was a problem with the modem???? I don't know where that one came from... changed my gprs setting to internet2.voicestream.com and it works now....until the next error message.
Screw it. I'm going back to 1.06. The JAM is VERY sluggish now and I can't even get it into flight mode to correct the problem. I guess I'll wait for the patch. (It seemslike we spend most of our time waiting for a patch or an update of some kind. ARGGGHH!)
ALso, I don't know if this was the case with the 1.06 ROM, but I used to have to hold down the red phone button for a few seconds to get the GPRS to disconnect. But with the 1.11UK rom all it takes is for you to click the red phone button and the connection is dropped. Example: If I'm on the Today Screen with GPRS connected, click the red phone button and voila, gprs is disconnected. Is this normal? I don't remember it disconnecting so easily with 1.06.

New HTC Galaxy and Wizard to replace the Magician.
Got a hirizontal slide out keyboard. Same size as Magician. Black in colour. with 128mb ram, Wifi built in. Same size as Jam. With a 2.1mb camera (undecided maybe 1.2). Just saw the pictures, but it looks awesome. (I think it also had edge).

Any chance you give us a link to those pics? Pleaseeeeeeee
Ok, been tinkering around this evening concerning the GPRS connection issues and this is what I have thus far. First, Club IMate has new Operator Settings on their website. One of their techs was kind enough to e-mail it to me this afternoon and checking their website this evening shows T-Mobile ver1.6. Applied those settings and it seemed to do a better job at installing my VPN settings for internet3.voicestream.com. However, when I checked the Connections screen it listed My Isp with my VPN connection and My Work Network was setup for wap.voicestream.com. Ok, nice but I don't use the wap settings. Connecting through IE to wap.yahoo.com resulted in the TMo Wap connection to launch, but not my VPN connection. So I went back into Connection settings and set both Work and Internet to "My ISP". Upon doing this and selecting any website from IE, it wouldn't connect and give me the error "Make sure you have your modem installed blah, blah, blah". If I then press and held on the "G" and tapped connect, it connected just fine.
So that got me thinking about the Registry again and why in the Connection screen for both Internet and Private network, why there was no option for "The Internet", or "My Secure WAP" so forth and so on. When I had my XDA IIs, those where options. So I loaded PHM Registry to the device and went exploring. The first thing I found and deleted was in: \HKLM\Software\HTC\WModem. I deleted the Preset GPRS key. The next thing I found where all the Interent settings I just mentioned in:
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Destinations\. There is listed "The Interent" (which I tried to create myself in Connections but it said it already existed) and My Secure Wap plus others that I had made. So for starters I deleted "The Internet" key and reset the device.
Went back into Connections and created a new network called The Internet and added my connection to internet3. I then switched it to only look at The Internet network. Launching IE again and trying to go to wap.yahoo.com. Again, I get the "Unable to Connect: Ensure that your modems are presentand inserted correctly, and no network card present".
So obvioulsy, my edits to the Registry made little difference. So again that got me thinking. Why would their be a WAP connection when I selected T-Mobile VPN during the new cab installation? Because it needs it!
I then went back into the Network Management screen under connections and left it set to The Internet for programs that auto connect to the internet and set it to My Work Network for the private network option. Since doing this I've had no issues when any connection while browsing. If I go to a WAP site it automatically connects to T-Mobile WAP connection. If I then decide to go to a full blown HTTP website, it automatically stops the WAP connection and launches the VPN one. There is no delay when it does this, well, maybe a second!
My thinking is (and, I'm no programmer or Registry master!) that the problem lies in the Registry settings for IE. Perhaps it runs deeper than that but if one of you Guru's could take a look perhaps we can get this ironed out once and for all. Thanks for listening!

** Updated Jam now ignores Spectec - HELP **

OK, someone please give me a hand with this one.
I'm far from a noob with this PPC stuff, and I've played around alot, but this one's got me stumped. If there is a simple fix, I'll go to the nearest brick wall and ...........
OK, I have the 128Meg Jam (US version) and I finally decided to upgrade to the lastest i-mate offerings of their ROM update called...
JAM_USA_11200_188_11210_ship.exe
The upgrade went smooth/perfect without any hitches and or hangs. Whew! So next was the daunting task of installing all my apps, games, emulators, etc...
So before I got in too deep, I did a soft reset, and deleted the ROM installed Skype (installing a newer version later) and deleted the AntiVirus software also.
Soft reset was next.
Then downloaded the latest drivers for my SPECTEC SDW-820 Wi-Fi card, both the Canada version 1.25 and the US version 1.25.3 (same version as the WM 5.0).
NOW... Guess what?!?
Up till this upgrade, my SPECTEC rocked with FAST X-Fer speeds, both up and down! I loved it and used it alot!
Now the damn JAM/SPECTEC combo sees a signal, grabs the signal, and tells me it's "connected", but yet the Wi-Fi icon at the top does the "searching" animation. When I click on the icon at the top, it says...
"No modem at above number. To check your connection settings and change them if neeed, tap Settings".
It's looking for a GPRS signal!
When connected to my PC via ActiveSync, I can use the internet with/without setting up any "Rogers" settings.
I've done soft resets, hard resets, re-installs, etc... EVEN a "hacked" E300 Wi-Fi driver from another chap (ampda) and a Wi-Fi companion, and still the same results... Sees signals, "says" it's connected, but IE, MSN, etc. don't work!!
If ANYONE has a fix for this, or has experienced this, please help me out! I LOVE my JAM, and it's to me the perfect little do-it-all, but I'm soon approaching this "Can Jam's fly" theory!
Talked with Chris and Impact Wireless, and contacting others... Everyone is stumped, but it seems to be the "newest" ROM offering.
Awaiting help,
Rick.
ROM version: 1.12.00 WWE

Im getting a similar error with mine atm, im going to be backing up and performing a hard reset in the next day or so...will keep you in formed.
Im currently on 1.06 again (long story) and it has suddenly "stopped working"
I think its a application i have installed that may have caused it.
Imp
OK...
AFAIK, most of the things you have mentioned are a settings problems if I'm not mistaken...
I mean in many cases you can connect your PDA to the internet using Active-Sync but applications like IE or MSN messenger won't work... all you have to do is to go to
Start>Settings>Connection:then Tab connections and manage your connection in order your desired application will get the right settings.. you may also edit the advanced settings as well ( select Networks )
Another thing you can do is to go to
Start>Settings>Connection: Network Cards.. and choose the right card and the right option (work or the internet)
In most cases... if you edit your connections settings, things will work for you... for instance you can delete ( temporarily) the GPRS setting for your JAM, so when you use you WiFi card... it will be the only option....
I know this sound weired, but I have tested it before, I used to do a lot of internet via BT or cable + Active-Sync but after I did a ROM upgrade.. things did not work... all you have to do is to tweak the settings a bit, and I guess you have the same problem, because you say you get connected... so this is just a matter of settings IMHO
Another thing, I think you can try older drivers for your card... it might work
I hope things will work for you
cheers
Well, I got it working! FINALLY!
Bye.
.................. LOL! Ok, Ok, here's how I fixed it.
I really don't know how!
I went to Wireless Wave in one of our malls here, and the store manager let me take one his new Audiovox PPC6600's up to the food court where I know there is an open HotSpot.
So I installed the latest SPECTEC SDW-820 v1.25.3 drivers, and did a soft reset, popped in the card, launched the W-Lan utility, and would you believe, it worked like a champ, right off the bat! With the settings at stock. I didn't have to change anything to "Work", and it worked perfectly.
So......
I brought it back, and went back for the real test now that I know that my Wi-Fi card is fine. So, same thing, did an installed, soft reset, popped in the card, and again, it worked perfectly!!
So, I'm wondering in all of this, if for some bizarre reason, that the "contacts" might have maybe been dirty?!? I really am not too sure, however, I am taking this moment to thank all that have been patient and helpful with this issue. My JAM doesn't need flying lessons now. LOL
Rick.
P.S. Wi-Fi worked at "The Internet" settings, as well as "Work" settings. It just automatically decides to go to the Wi-Fi card when it's in place. Neat!
P.P.S Can surf the internet using PIE and use MSN on the JAM while activesynced. No Wi-Fi card installed, and GPRS off. Using ActiveSync v3.8

Lost and Scared - CID + ROM heeby jeebies!

Hello, I have scoured and search and read multiple forum posts here about Lokiwiz, Faria's Incredible ROMs and how to downgrade etc etc. But I am still muddled oh a few things.
Firstly:
I have an HTC Wizard from T-Mobile that is SIM unlocked and working on local network with local SIM. I am completely happy with the phone but for the fact that my WIFI does not work.
I have found posts that gave me RegEdit instructions to fix this and they have not worked. I have read through a multitude of pages and posts here and at HTCWIzardWeb on upgrading rom etc and it freaks me out... last thing i want is a brick - as seems to be the expression.
I have the latest release ROMS from T-Mobile per their website.
So:
1. How can i tell if my Wizard is CID unlocked?
2. Is there a way to activate the WIFI without switching to a cooked ROM?
3. Are there other manfuacturers ROMS that I can transfer to that have WIFI enabled?
Simply put I am scared to death of this whole ROM update thing and I am not ashamed to admit it. Down right fearful!!
I am such a noob to the whole PPC thing that if possible I don't want to mess with too much until I get feet a little wet with some simple things. And the last thing I want to Brick my phone...
So if anyone, can help me out and provide some clear concise info about these things, that would be greatly appreciated.
I look forward to getting in deeper with all this stuff, but for now I just need a little spoon feeding.
Thanks!
Rob
Hey Rob,
Soft-reset your phone and on the white screen that flashes up (with the t-mobile logo on it) there should be some letters and numbers in the upper-left hand corner of the screen. What do the numbers next to IPL and SPL read?
if they end with .0001, i'm afraid your phone is a G4 and is CID-locked, my friend...
but don't worry...there are ways around this. I myself have a G4 Wizard (t-mobile) and have been able to flash many different roms (i'm currently using xplore wm6 which is great btw). I believe there's a G4 flashing tutorial in the G4 threads...
but, if you're still too nervous, don't do it just b/c i said it was possible! I don't want to be responsible for bricking your phone!
My phone is G3 per other posts... no .0000x after the IPL and SPL.
hmm...
I used to have the most recent t-mobile rom for the MDA as well... but I never had any issues with the wi-fi... have you tried connecting with many different access points?
or, t-mobile forbid, a hardware issue?

Not sure what it is exactly... just does not connect to any wifi. Read on various forms that T-Mob lokced it off, but nothing seems to have a clear answers...
one post here had a cab that supposedly worked but it did nothing... which made me believe I was not CID unlocked and started me down this whole haunted house of ROM speak...
If you decide you want to try the flashing route to move to a custom rom, here's the thread to read and use to get yourself CID Unlocked and then into the promised land of custom roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613
Can't say whether going to a custom would fix your wifi issue (I'd advise you stay away from WM6 roms as Wifi isn't always reliable with some of them). Maybe try Faria AKU 3.3, or Molski 2.3 final as they are good solid custom roms.
Then if you don't like it, you can easily flash back to your trusty T-Mobile 2.26 ROM and be back to known territory.
Good luck!
Appreciate the link and the advice, however, I am still trying to find out how I can I tell if my device is already CID unlocked. That is priority one and surely there has to be a way to tell.
Next I want to know if there is an easy, non-ROM-Flashing way to activate my WIFI. Again surely there are some things I can attempt to adjust this prior to flashing a custom ROM??
After that, if I still can't get the WIFI to work, then I will have to lose the skirt, tighten the ol' jock strap and dive feet first into this ROM flashing world.
So again, first I need to know these things:
1. How can I tell if I am already CID unlocked?
2. How can I try to activate my WIFI (RegEdits?)
Thanks

I have read almost every post in this form, and I remember coming across question 1. The answer is: You can't tell, the best and safest way (so you are less likely to brick your phone) is the follow the procedure step by step (DO NOT SKIP ANY STEPS) in written by Dr. P found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435 to unlock the phone. If you try to burn a custom ROM without unlocking, you'll have big problems.
Question 2: By default, your phone probably has wifi 802.11G turned off in the reg settings. Only 802.11b is turned on, so unless you have an 802.11b router it will not work. Have you tried this tweak?
• Enable 802.11g 54Mbps
To enable 802.11g set:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS "dot11SupportedRateMask"=dword:00000001
and add this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS "dot11SupportedRateMaskG"=dword:00000008
I used a number of WM6 ROMs and the wifi always worked great, I also used Cingular’s stock WM5 and now I’m Faria’s WM5 3.3 and the wifi always works great! All of the costume ROMs I have used already has this wifi tweak added.
Okay, I tried the regedit and both of those keys already exist and are already set to 1 and 8 respectively. Nothing.
So i guess that leaves me one final option and that is to CID the darn thing and hope to God I don't turf my unit.
Thanks for the help... Any last words of advice/caution/etc. before I dive into this process?
Just read and follow the link I gave you above. Don't skip steps and you will be fine. Its really not that bad, and you will be amazec at how your phone can perform.
Are you sure you're understanding what WiFi is? Do you have a wireless router? Not trying to insult you, but the way you are asking the question infers that you think the phone just comes with wifi that gives you internet access. Wifi requires a wireless access point
If you want internet everywhere, you're thinking of GPRS, which either requires a data plan, or is charged per kilobyte.
Yes, I know what Wifi is. I have a WRT54G Linksys wireless router set to b/g mode. Laptop connects to it without effort. My iPaq 6315 connects without effort. Know my Wizard can do the same, but can't seem to get it to work... which has brought me here...
So I start reading through steps, downloading all the files suggested and preparing to CID unlock and flash a new ROM. But when I get to step 3 of Docs directions, I realize one thing, that I don't really know how to "Flash" a ROM or Downgrade. Now call me stupid if you must, but my searches of the forums keep bringing me back to the same thread from Dr.P. And Step 3, I quote, "3.. Downgrade your ROM to the Button 1.05. Let it go through the whole setup please..." But it doesn't tell you HOW to downgrade!
Okay, you finished laughing and cursing me?
But I am serious about not knowing HOW and deathly afraid of bricking my Wizard I figured it would do no harm to ask and get a full clarification of the whole process.
So if someone could help me out in that regard, that would be greatly apprecaited.
Thanks
Downgrading the ROM is as simple as downloading the file and executing the ROM update utility (RUU). After that, just simply follow the instructions.
RUU is your friend (unless you are on a G4, then you need to be careful with it). But yeah, just download the file and execute it. You'll need to have your phone connected to your computer. It will step you through the process.
I was hoping it was that easy, but gotta make sure... better to ask than to be another poster with a brick
Alright!!! Did it and it worked like a charm!! BUT STILL NO WIFI ACCESS!!! WHAT the HECK!!
So now I search for a custom ROM that might solve this problem.
Any suggestions?
And thanks for the spoon feeding...
How is your router set up, what kind of security settings?
So to make sure all of us have the complete situation down. You can turn on wi-fi, you just can't connect to anyone? Does it list your router? Did you try downloading Wififofum and see if it shows your router on the radar?

Router set up in WPA-PSK, dual b/g mode. When I tap the WiFi button in CommManager, it shows the windows loader icon for a few seconds, then shuts off the Wifi. It is not even turning on the wifi. Nothing else on the router is customized... just straight out of the box WPA settings.
I have tried switching to just b and just g to see if that made a difference, but absolutely nothing.
There are 4 secured wireless networks in my complex. My Laptop detects them all. My iPaq 6315 detects them all and connects to mine with no problems. Put the PassKey for my router in the iPaq and presto, no hassles at all. My Wizard... Nada!! When I go to Wifi settings, it does not even allow me to enter info into the settings fields.
Have not tried Wififofum yet... but would it make a diffence if I cannot get my wifi to turn on? This is the thought process that brought me to looking at Custom ROMS. Thinking T-Mob has locked it off or something? I mean when I researched PDA phones and chose the Wizard (T-Mob MDA) I did so because it was wifi capable. And everything I have looked up since says it is.
I have tried the RegKeys and unless I am doing something wrong they didn't change anything.
So I am at a complete loss. So maybe I should try Faria's AKU2 ROM? Or his WM6 ROM? Any suggestions?
Thanks
A few people have intermitten problems like the one you describe, but not constantly. I would just try flashing T-Mobile's official rom first, no cooking, unlocking, etc needed. See if that fixes it.

I currently have the latest T-Mob ROM. Just CID unlocked, but there are no other customizations or cooked up stuff done to it.
For further reference, Staying at a friends house, whose running same WRT54G Linksys, but has it unsecured. Laptop connects. iPaq connects. Wizard nada.
So I am left thinking 3 things:
1. Something wrong with the ROM I have (standard tmobile 2.26)
2. Something wrong with the regkeys or other settings.
3. Something is physically wrong with my wifi on my wizard.
Any suggestions (and links) to another ROM known to work with Wifi??
PS Also of note, though not sure if related - Bluetooth works fine on the device. Can communicate with laptop and ipaq via bluetooth.

Here's how it SHOULD work. When you turn on WiFI from the CommManager screen, the icon will indicate that its now on. If that never turns on its either a problem with your rom or you have a hardware issue. At this point you should go grab your latest official rom from your carrier (TMobile 2.26) and reflash it (even if thats what you already have). If you still have the issue then to me its a hardware issue. If you don't believe that and have to further prove it to yourself then go get the official Cingular rom (its on the HTC website just tell it you have an 8125) or get the Wizard Love rom and flash them to see if it makes a difference (but if TMobile ship can't turn it on, the others won't be able to either is my bet). Your only option then is to do a hardware exchange (just make sure you put it back to the TMobile rom.
If that WiFi button in the CommManager does turn on, then at that point your phone will search and then tell you the access point(s) it finds (Both secured and unsecured). If that doesn't happen then most likely its a hardware issue.

Wifi to GPRS/3G

I have searched this and other forums and have not seen either this problem or an answer to it. Per AT&T's suggestion, I just upgraded to the new AT&T rom version that adds PTT and seems to have big problems. My current issue is that when I first boot up and connect via GPRS/3G all works well. When I get to a wifi area and switch to wifi, again all works well. However when I leave the wifi area (or just turn off wifi) I can't get any data via GPRS/3G. The balloon comes up saying it is connecting. The little "G" and bidirectional arrows in the top left indicate it is connected. However in the browser, it just continues to grind away with "Locating" in the bottom right corner until it finally times out and puts up a screen that says that the "page cannot be displayed because the connection was lost". I open the connection manager and press and hold the "Data Connection" icon until that goes off and try again, same problem. The only way I can get GPRS/3G data connection to actually work again is to reboot. Any ideas what is going on or how this can be fixed? Forgot to add that this is an HTC 8525. Thanks.
From your description I wasn't able determine whether AT&T's suggestion was aimed at remedying the issue, or if it's something that came about with the update.
Assuming the latter, you may want to try a hard reset first and run it for a bit before loading any other apps. Failing that, reflash the ROM. I had a lot of trouble with my radio when my 8525 was new, but it mysteriously cleared up after a few radio flashes.
Thanks but still a problem
Thanks for your thoughts here. I hard reset and reflashed.
Yes the firmware is the latest one that AT&T has suggested that everyone who had the older Cingular phones upgrade to. It provides the AT&T logo, the "push to talk" feature, and some other junk. I have contacted AT&T about this and their response was to send me a new phone that they claimed had the old firmware, since they have been getting a lot of complaints about the new firmware. It didn't have the old firmware and also it's SIM card reader appears to be broken. I called HTC and they said that they too have had lots of complaints about the new firmware quirks but had nothing to offer to solve them. Anyway, the old firmware had no problem switching between wifi and CGRS so I don't think it is in the hardware. On the other hand I'm surprised that nobody else is encountering the problem from the upgrade.
I'm having the same prob. Purchase three of these phones and the other users have little technical expertise. First I set up a sync with my office PC. Then loaded the ROM update. I run MAC's @ home had difficulty connecting to my home wifi. Finally determined that the 8525 would not accept the 13 key ASCII wep password. Needed to use the HEX. So I connected. Went to work and had problems syncing with my PC. Active sync had to rediscover the device. Now I'm back home and can't connect again. My Device ID changed names upon "resyncing" and I updated the Airport Base Station with my new name. I've spent a lot of time on this issue.. Maybe I need to send em back for an iPhone!
Well I found a solution to it
This is a great forum - though somewhat hard to search through thoroughly. Anyway the solution for me was to go back to ROM 1.34. Found how to do that through flashing from the micro card at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311704&highlight=cingular+8525+rom+version and getting the production ROM version at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades. Back to normal - everything works fine. Just for a trial, I also downloaded ROM V2.1.1 and it works find also - but sure seems a bit large - ends up with 42.9M of storage free vs V1.34 that has 50.25. Think I'll try the the memory expansion process at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298327&highlight=want+more+storage. That seems to at least provide a more than 9 megabyte smaller MBH file but I don't know what that translates to in memory usage yet.
Suspect there is a way to fix this problem but I haven't seen anything in the forums on it.

CSD-Line Modem connection to a home-pc (hermes)

good morning everybody
i've got a networking question for you: i followed this guide: MDAC - Home connection (sorry for posting it in german).
basically it describes the following essential things:
setting up the modem on my home computer to accept incoming calls
actually i opened a terminal on COM2 which is my modem-port and tested it by calling the modem from my mobile phone via voice-connection. the terminal displayed: RING RING RING RING ... etc.
so i set up my hermes: changed CSD-linetype to 9600(v.110) and the mode to: non-transparent.
set up a new modem connection with the number of my target modem and tried both version, with login credentials and without... (in fact i got the same problems in both tries)
as i have set up everything correctly i tried connecting my hermes via the new modem connection to my modem-computer, but after three tries the hermes gave up and told me: could not connect to...
looking into my modem-terminal: nothing... not even a ring...
so i must assume: my settings are incorrect, do you have any clue?
or has anyone else tried such a connection before?
hope for some replies.
greetings
garfield
CSD connection is a bit hit and miss in recent HTC devices.
Yes, it's definitely a device problem rather than a carrier one - the receiving modem indeed never rang.
If you have patience, try redial a couple of times. I got one out of ten that got through.
hmm, might this be fixed by flashing a newer, or even an older, radio rom?
so i will try to redial, maybe i will get a connection after a few hundred tries
thanks for reply, i thougt i set a setting completly wrong, although there aren't much.
greetings
I thought a radio flash would help too - but I was wrong. I proved it myself.
I recently flashed my machine (Trinity) from WM5 to WM6 and probably will give it another try if I got some spare time. I wish it get fixed - but it's just a wish...
