Touchscreen died – Anyone found a working solution? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

The other day my touchscreen response time started to flicker and then gave out within a matter of a few hours...
I am making due with the help of smarts key and sphelper (adds a mouse you can move with the arrow keys.) The only functions that I lost were the ability to play my games and to change anything with battery status (beta 3).
I tried to connect a M$ Bluetooth mouse but it wanted a passkey which M$ does not provide. I tried installing the drivers from Think Outside's Stowaway® Travel Mouse but the software would not even find my M$ mouse. Has any one found a workaround to get the M$ mouse to work on a wizard?
I think all I need to do it replace the touch screen. Has anyone had any experience with this? I downloaded the service manual off the wiki but don’t want to trash my phone without a backup one ready to go.
Thanks for reading and any help is much appreciated.

a bluetooth mouse maybe?
has anyone at least gottena bluetooth mouse working sucessfully? and if so what brand was it?

Not the solution you are asking for, but something that will drastically help:

Thanks for the links...if I get ballesy enough I will try and do it myself...hopeful I will get a new phone soon (if i can wait til June the Kaiser) and I can try and fix this one...or at least sell it on eBay

This one will give you access at least until you find another solution: you get your PDA on your desktop screen and can use it with desktop keyboard and mouse. I am using it myself and started to use my MDA more on the desktop than directly.
You can hook it up via USB or WLAN ...

Thank you so much that was exactly what I needed to get battery status set up the way I liked it as well as all of the registry keys set. Thanks again

Well,
I am glad I could help!

In case it is only the digitizer and not your LCD screen: SPB MOBILE SHELL lets you almost do anything on your PPC with only softkeys and navigation pad. The HW keyboard works on your device anyway I asume? If you want to take a closer look: http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/screenshots.html?en

Same here. Hacking the Magician to act as a Bluetooth HID optical mouse by using the camera as a motion detection sensor, now THAT would be a hack...

Seriously though - I have this cheap mouse that works on a Wm2003Se Pocketpc like a charm but not on my WM5 JJ . Which version of the STowaway Mouse is his 4.2 ? 4.3? - Did someone get it to work on WM5?
I got to play with a Stowaway Mouse for a week  - You should have seen the students faces when I pull out my "mini Laptop" in the coffee shop and they still sit with Old NoteBook technology
Now without the mouse it is not as impressive
Cant we hack the latest WM5 compatible driver as the previous one's - Who knows how to reverse engineer DLL's??

Well, I've tried to use it with a Qtek9000 and WM5.0, without success.
Stowaway mouse driver version 4.4, but finishes always with the two messages bellow, poping-up:

The Keyboa driver ("StowawayXT.dll")is not responding.
Please reinstall.
I might be some problem with the .dll.

USB Mouse. Where's my pointer?

Guys,
Just plugged in a USB mouse via the 4in1 socket. The device powers the mouse after a soft reset and I can use the scroll wheel to scroll.
Anyone know if there's a facility to enable a mouse pointer like on the Athena?
Cheers.

Clear something up for me guys. With my T-Mo Ameo, i received the the mains charger, a USB cable, and a VGA out cable. Should there be another one for connecting USB devices? What is this 4 in 1 socket?
Hi,
It's an optional cable, which you can buy:
http://www.expansys.nl/p.aspx?i=145166
Thanks, I've ordered one.
Yep, I have one too. Hence the question.
I've tried USB Keyboard, Hard drive and Mouse. All seem to work, but I need a mouse pointer to see where the mouse is pointing obviously and I can't seem to find one.
Sorry for hijacking your thread Mr Wavey, as soon as my cable arrives I'll see if I can answer your question
Hi
I've tried the 4-1 cable and have also had no luck with the mouse pointer. Tried downloading the iGo Stowaway BT drivers but no luck. I think I will wait for expansys to get the new iGo BT mouse in stock in April (about £35) - they list the Advantage as being compatible. Unless anyone has any other ideas?
On a seperate note - I've managed to get VGA out working on my LCD TV through the PC input but have so far not had any look with sound. Ideally I would like to be able to plug in into my aux of my hifi but so far my cables don't seem to work?
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers

Problem solved
I have found a lurverly little tool discovered/created? by non other than Paul who runs www.modaco.com
http://www.modaco.com/Athena-Test-Mouse-Driver-t253431.html
Try this my brothers, it's nifty it is.
Remember to:
-Install cab file
-Soft reset device
-Only then, once you have seen the little screen pop up saying test mouse or something, plug in the adapter and the mouse.
I have found it works exceedingly well. The pointer can stutter slightly but I have not found it a problem at all.
Enjoy!
I don't really want to sign up with Modaco just to get the file.
Can you upload it here?
Good find, by the way....
I might get flamed but....

Thanks for that Yarod....you're right, it works a treat!! I can live with the occasional stutter. The Athena is becoming ever closer to a Mobile PC.....just with a different more limited O/S but superb connectivity options.
Hello, had someone else testing this programm on a Ameo with German language?
I install it and get the massege "new USB Mouse" but nothing happens :-(
just click ok and plug in your mouse. remember not to plug in before soft reset. the language does not matter.
O.k. I do a soft reset, than i tapped on o.k. after this i plug in my mouse.... nothing happens.
Is there a special brand of mouse that works with this programm?
I would be so happy if it works

Review: Testing my new Celluon CL850

I just received my CL850 virtual Keyboard today. Try to set up, it is easy - medium setup. It took me about 30 min from installing the drivers and connecting it to my HTC Tilt. It work on my WM 6.1 Dutty's Rom with a WM5 (the latest driver).
The keyboard overall is very good, if you want me to rates from 1-10 with 10 is the best, I will give 9. It is easy to type and adjust the sensitivity, I can see cleary even I am in very bright room. And the keyboard stroke sound can be adjust into four levels plus no sound, with quick function. So you don't need to be worry bothering other people if you are in a library.
The downsize of the keyboard: (1) it only can use on flat surface, so you need to place it on the table, (2) You can't assign a button on some of 4-unassign keyboard keys. I try to look at the manual so far but can't find any guide how to do it. I will try to contact a customer service if I can assign a button. It will be very helpful if I can assign those 2 soft left and right buttons key.
It is my first day got the item, I still need a further test and lets you guys know. Thanks
Nice, I've never seen a review on this keyboard before, only some previews. I have the iTech VKB but I don't like the fact that it lacks usb connection as I would like to connect it to my PC. Yes I know you can connect it with bluetooth but I would like to use it when entering the BIOS and also choosing OS to boot.
Does it work with USB on a standard PC without drivers or do you have to install the ones from Celluon? I'm asking this because I rarely use Windows. I read that it does indeed require drivers and therefore won't work on for ex. Linux based phones or Linux PC's.
I have an iTech VKB but it only has bluetooth and the quality is not that good. It tilts over easily too.
One problem with these keyboards are that if you typ a key that is between to IR sensor and another key you are typing it won't register. It does also not like too many simultaneous presses.
I really like the fact that you just need to swipe the table instead of opening the keyboard when it gets really dirty inside.
Well this is very interesting but It's expensive at least if ordering to Sweden.
I just got one today and It's the greatest "keyboard" I have used ever. It works all the way from bios to the Ubuntu desktop. It's much better than the itech vkb. The more solid construction prevents it from tilting as easy as the itech. It seems I have to adjust sensitivity however. The touch-pad feature is great and it feels to me like it supports multi-touch. Finally no more cleaning of the keyboard.
My current problem is scrolling in touch-pad mode. Arrows and dragging the right bar works but I would really like scrolling in the middle.
I thought the silverish button on the top was a push button but it was actually capacitive.
I haven't tried bluetooth because Ubuntu has currently big trouble with bluetooth.
Another problem is when playing games that require WASD and the mouse. The touch-pad feature won't work at the same time as the keyboard except the most basic buttons like ENTER and ARROWS.
PS. CTRL-ALT-DEL works (emergency reboot).
cl850 celluon laser keyboard/mouse on wm6?
I've gotten the keyboard to work via bluetooth and it works amazingly on my omnia wm6.1; had it working on previous dell axim x51v and palm tx... BUT, I haven't been able to get the mouse portion to work under wm... both keyboard and mouse work great in XP... any suggestions?
What drivers are you using and how did you set them up on wm6.1?
I have tried all the latest drivers from Celluon on my HTC Fuze p4600 and none will go.
I get an 'initialization error' when I try to run the setup util on the phone.

I get the same error when running the software on my Touch Diamond. This happens when running their app from the control panel.
From their site i've tried
SmartPhone [WM6.0] PKSetup_v1.9 / PocketPC WM6PPC_PKSetup_v1.9
Rob
Rob,
I did actually get this device to function with my p4600. I have since switched to another device, however, if I remember correctly I think it was the pocket PC 2003 drivers (not smart phone) that I FINALLY got to work, though the keyboard function was rather choppy while typing. You also have to start (and leave running) the Virtual KB app every time you want to use it.
Under XP, Vista and even Win7 the keyboard functions surprisingly well.. I just wish there were more support for mobile devices, which is where this device would really shine.
Interesing, i've just tried
Smartphone - [WM2003] PKSetup_v1.1.exe and it has a start menu app instead of control panel, that program does find the keyboard and it works. It seems accurate but its really slow, ie typing hello, you finish and then it start's its clicking noise and the letters appear.
The previous ones I tried was WM6.0 version 1.9 under both smartphone and PocketPC, although both zip files are identical size.
So when you used it and it was rather choppy, too slow to actaully use? Just wondering if the WM6 ones would work at a good speed if they worked.
http://www.celluon.com/common/data/list.html?a_gb=data&a_cd=3&a_item=0
The 2k3 drivers were the only ones I could get to function at all, and yes it was too slow to use. I assume this poor performance is not caused by a limitation of the phone or the keyboard because like I said in the previous post it functions flawlessly on a PC (XP,Vista and Win7) as well as with my Nokia (Symbian) device. This of course leads me to believe that if the correct driver or driver program existed and were used then this lag in typing would go away.
On another note it seems there are some people that have no problems using the WM6 drivers on their 6.1 devices which makes me think the incompatibility could reside on the device manufacturer side of things.. IE HTC has some setting or settings enabled/disabled in the OS which makes the driver program error out. I can only assume it would be an easy fix.. if it were just known what the problem is.
I have sent several messages to Celluon about this matter and receive nothing in return. I am afraid its just a defunct company at this point. Its ashame because its such a great little device. I don't think there are enough units out in the world to receive much community support.
oh man
I have one and I love it to death, but it does NOT get along with windows mobile 6.5
anybody seen any anything resembling a glimmer of hope? I've seen some of the stuff the xda beasts do, there has to be a way to get this to work.
Ive got the latest WM driver i could find on the celluon site & it all installed fine on my HD2 the only thing is i cant get it to connect via bluetooth, when i try & connect im asked for a passcode & whatever i enter it just says there was an error.
EDIT: Solved that, got all the way to selecting Projection Keyboard in the keyboard menu, then i get an error 'The security account database contains an internal inconsistency'

Bluetooth Keyboard for HTC touch pro?

Can anyone suggest a good bluetooth keyboard for the touch pro? Im planning to use it for typing down notes. has anybody here been using an external keyboard?
I've got an old foldup stowaway bluetooth keyboard (with a dell label)from thinkoutside - might me 'igo' now. I got working in about 10 seconds on my new touch pro. If you want something portable its great, and even has a little stand hat the tough pro can sit in, on its side or upright. The batteries last for months.
Freedom BT Universal Keyboard
I'm using for several years a BT Universal Keyboard of Freedom, link here
Working very well on my Unviversal, TyTN and TyTN II. Have had some problems with the drivers for WM 6.1. Another problem is getting additional unlock codes for use on your new PPC. I'm waiting now for about 2 weeks to get a new unlock code for my TP. The hardware is very good and the power consumption very little. Recommanded!
I have a Freedom Universal Keyboard that worked great with my Tilt. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to connect to my Fuze, and I've had many emails with tech support from Freedom and so far they haven't come up with an answer. It's not an unlock code issue, they were very prompt to email me a new unlock code when I switched to the Fuze. But for some reason, my Fuze won't recognize the keyboard.
I got spoiled having this keyboard with my Tilt, would take it to meetings, etc and type away rather than writing notes. I've got to figure out a new option for a keyboard.
I also have the Freedom Universal Keyboard, and it connected to my Fuze immediately with no issues (as opposed to my old Kaiser, which took multiple tries). Are you connecting with SPP or HID profiles? I connected with HID -- WM6 has HID drivers installed so you don't have to install any software.

Exactly -- I use the software built into WM6. Not using the
driver means that the programmed keys don't work (i.e. the shortcuts for launching apps), but I'm OK with that.
If you want something small, get yourself a FrogPad - they are one handed keyboards. Might take a little time to learn, but it wouldn't be too difficult. I've got a Bluetooth model here from my office, so I might test it out in the near future.

How do you use the software built into WM6.1 to connect? I tried not using their software and just turning on the keyboard, but nothing happened? Could you walk me through what you do, if anything to get the keyboard to connect to the Fuze?
I didn't do anything special. I just turned the keyboard on in HID mode, pressed the pairing button (the round one with the letter B), and then put the Fuze into discovery mode (add new device in BT connection). The Fuze saw the keyboard, and asked for a passcode (I entered 0000). and promptly connected to the keyboard.

HTC HD as drawing board

Hey!
I bet there is someone asked this before, but I seached the forums and didt get any results.
Since the HD got such a big screen in size, it could be cool to be able to connect it to a PC and use it as mouse like a drawing board. I downloaded Paint to the mobile and worked great to draw with the pen, so maybe it could be possible to make a program to use it as a mouse?
Heh, that's a cool idea! I wonder why this has never been done before with earlier smartphones. Or at least not as far as I know.
Could you install and use the Remote Desktop client on your Touch to control your computer mouse?
Have you tried Gremote? You can connect via wifi and use your screen as a touch pad, and you can also use the accelerometer to control you mouse pointer.
I've only tried it on Kaiser, so not sure about working with the WVGA screen.
in diamond apps forum or wiki
get an eye on diamond forum, you can connect your phone via bluetooth and using it like a logitech mouse.
