Nice review, but please take off the A2DP reg edit from the document. It is currently optimised already and editing brings the dreaded skipping All you need is the UseJointStereo = 0 setting.

Can someone tell me what combo style is with T-Mobile and what with Dopod? Does Dopod has Laser pen? Would Advantage also have Laser pen?

The carrying case should include a place for the "huge laser pen"

With the settings I used I don't experience any skipping at all, and I use it for music everyday. Maybe your BT Headset is at fault?

Anyone got a picture of the laser pen?

Hmmm .. I never got a laser pen on my T-Mobile Ameo - it came with a pointer and pen all in one. One Click and it becomes a pointer another click it becomes a pen, I think this is useful if like me you tend to forget and start accidently scribbling all the Ameo screen, great idea ;-) .... I threw this in the bottom end of the draw, as I cannot blame the kids for everything that goes wrong.
I think T-Mobile may have given the laser pen idea a miss due to kids playing with laser pens in the hope of becoming eye specialists and using them for corrective eye surgery on each other, or they saved some money? Either ways I feel that that if they included a Mont Blanc Ink Pen I would have felt a lot better.

Might buy a Advantage ...... good idea ?

hi, guys, Im looking to buy a HTC Advantage but not sure if i should.
Right now i own a Hermes, the only thing bothering me is that if i will be able to use it on trains and stuff, (send emails/sms) since it doesn't have a thumb board like the hermes (the only reason i want the Advantage is bigger screen and CPU 624Mhz), im just wondering if on screen input with your fingers is possible without third party software ?

don't really understand why you ask this. Advantage has a keyboard, which makes it easy to type compare to Hermes. You shouldn't worry about the typing, although it's lacking a number row, the typing is still better then Hermes.
From spect (I don't have it yet) athena far better than hermes
so do you mean can i use the hardware keyboard on trains and in places where a flat surfaceis not available like in my hand? or if not is the software keyboard on the screen good ? can I type on it with my thumbs ?

The on-screen keyboard is big enough for your thumb Remember the athena has 5 inch screen, so everything on it is big It covers almost the lower half of the screen.
can one of you guys please post a screen shot ? it would make it a lot easier for me to decide if i actually saw the on screen keyboard

with some time and practice, you can type the hard keyboard without a flat surface easily.
wow cool sounds gooood !

Hi LK
Just checked your question on my Athena, I can tell you the screen keyboard is just 3" (75mm) wide and to do it on the tube with my fingers-impossible without multiple errors. BUT maybe your ring size is like a childs, then maybe you'd succeed. The good news is I tried thumb operate with hardware keyboard and--well lets say I give it the thumbs-up! s'cuse the pun. The magnetic hold is really strong so it aint gonna drop off, you can hold it upside down and shake it, still holds on. Caution don't put it on sensitive magnetic media or it could corrupt data, eg cassette tapes (remember them) hard discs, caddy, laptop etc.
But for a phone/pda your Hermes is a gr8 bit of kit, so compact and useable. I rate the athena as a pda then a phone if you get my drift. Hope you get one and enjoy, also save ur eye strain!
Cheers
Oh an after thought-dont wear steel rings with this one, ya could get locked onto it!
Isn't the keyboard detatchable and attached only by a magnet? How good is it to type while on your hands? Doesn't it increase the risk of a major floor wipe out?

Yes quite practical to type on hard kb with fingers when Athena in hand. The Keyboard is attached by the magnets only. its amazing but however u try to mis-align it, the thing zaps into the right place! only the mag holds it on, nowt else. If the mag wears out after a year I'll also trade in the alternator off my car but have to wait and see

Oh yea,
A SOBERING THOUGHT : If the earths magnetism wears out we'll all hurtle into outer space -- yikes!!

Anyone have the HD in hand?

With the Touch Pro/Fuze, there were a few people I bumped into that had the device in hand before the release (job perks). Does anyone lurking this forum have the device in hand, or know someone that does?
I played with it in Gitex Dubai - UAE. Looks nice but i hate to judge a device while it is being connected to a power cable and a security cable.

can understand that. lst time i went into a shop to try out a touch diamond just to see the interface, it didn't even work because those idiots at the shop connected the security cable on top of the screen, destroying it ^^
But beside of this, can you tell us about your experience? how big does it feel? whats with the screen size? how does the interface handle on this version . tell us every bit!!
Sure,
Size: seemed big in hand, but again, i beleieve this sense is due to the 'Cables' below and Behind :|
Screen size and quality: simply Amazing.
Performance: seemed excellent, without any lag. better than diamond.
Look & Design: Better than what u see in utube or images

haha, i cant wait also for the release ....
as for the keyboard, it is yes, way better than hat on diamond. but i am using TOUCHPAL on diamond, so i can't tell exactly the difference from the built in which i never used.
Good thing, yes, the upper part of the screen is too big where u can see more while typing.

Good. I liked the sturdy feel of the Diamond which was largely because of the robust feel that the metal border gives.
Good thing the HD has this too.
Does it feel solid in general? I like a phone that feels heavy and solid. I know the weight spec but it all comes down to the total feel.

HTC patent for Capacitive screen stylus....

Found this interesting item on pocketnow.com Htc seem to be working on a stylus for capacitive screens. Should be interesting
http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/htc-brings-stylus-accuracy-to-capacitive-touchscreen-in-new-patent
old news.....
Question is if some support must not be built in the device. There is no public working prototype, and no one said it could work with existing displays. So don't hope too much ..
Old news alright, I was hoping this device would ship with the stylus, now hoping its available to purchase separately at some stage (SCUMMVM benefits from this, as do a few other things, not needed at all for usual use of the handset).

ah ok, if your phone doesnt have a hole for the stylus, your keyring, pens, wallet and similar, you can't carry one with you.
I've been waiting for it ever since i first read about it..
come on..
You can already get a stylus for a capacitive screen, the HTC one might be nicer - who knows. Some have inbuilt pens etc.
The HTC one is much nicer, it looks like an ordinary stylus with a pointy tip. The existing ones have big fat heads, which kinda defeats the purpose of having a stylus in the first place...

I agree, I like the HTC version the best, however, until they come out you really only have two options...
1. Get over having a stylus (not realistic for some)
2. Buy the current versions and at least have a working solution until the HTC ones area available.
I'm in the camp that don't need a stylus, I'd just like to have one for the occasional use, so I'm happy to wait until HTC release theirs (or someone else comes up with a palatable alternative).

3. Don't buy an HD2 in the first place. It's not the law that you have to.
I ordered a Pogo stylus with a soft tip and big head only for use when I go out with gloves... I would love a pointy tip one though so that I can run through some WM app's menus a lot easier.... I suspect the little scroll bars that pop up during some app settings changes are going to be hard to do without one
*** Controversial statements warning ***
If a capacitive screen designed for finger-only use was a good idea, there would be no market for a capacitive stylus.
If the HTC stylus works well and is affordable, I have to wonder why it's not already on the market

Hmm, will that work? I'd assumed that a capacitive stylus works by establishing an electrical connection between the screen and your skin. If so then it won't work unless your skin is in direct contact with the stylus - so even a conductive stylus won't work if you're wearing gloves.
According to the report, the stylus will replace the electrical connection with the skin with some sort of magnet. If it was that easy...
I wonder if it would work if one were to dissect off a square centimetre of skin and glue it to the tip of one of the old fashined styluses...?
Cmon guys,
i have both HD and HD2 and i used the stylus on HD for less 5% of the time (never for writing). Now with HD2 i don`t even think to stylus.
I have over 100Kg so my hands were not very slim

Stylus for A500?

Has anyone done testing with a stylus for the A500? If so, what were your thoughts?
I'd like something I can use to either draw quick sketches for photo ideas, or something I can use to jot a quick note here and there (of course, I'd probably need an app that supports handwriting, but those may come in time).
I purchased a Targus stylus today. Having come from the old pre-capacitive days when the stylus is hard, the new stylus' seemed a little odd but I must say the control is very good. Pin point accuracy - excellent for drawing.

I also got the Targus stylus a week or so ago; and it does works well.. I saw another stylus somewhere online that is supposed to give you even finer control and allow you to actually see exactly where the stylus is touching the screen, but now I can't find where I saw it. I'm thinking about giving the new one a shot too, if I can find it again. ;-)

I think you're referring to this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/DAGi-Stylus-P10...?pt=US_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item41582701ff
I have one and it works very well in general. The only issue is getting it at the right angle with the screen - particularly if you have the screen at an angle. But I like it better than the rubber tipped ones.
I bought the Boxwave stylus. I like it a lot. However it doesn't always catch it, sometimes it clicks on a screen I don't want or am scrolling through. But other than that, I am very happy with it for detailed work. My fingers get sweaty on occasion and I have a hard time using the screen when they are like that. So the stylus is a nice addition to have, especially if you don't like fingerprints.
I do wonder if it will somehow mess up the screen though later on.
Just curious, is there any way to get hand writing recognition to work? So for instance, if I bought one of these stylus's, would I be able to use it and forgo the need for an on screen keyboard?

Can anyone recommend a stylus that's got more of a penpoint tip rather than something the size of a finger?
With a capacitive screen I don't think something like this exists. Although I was in a meeting today with somebody taking notes on an I pad, not sure how they were doing that.
I own this stylus and I really like it. This is the only stylus I have used so I cannot compare it to anything.

I got word yesterday that Acer is releasing one specifically for the A500. I will get more information and keep everyone posted.
I'm getting behind on everything as I had to go out of town for a few days on a business trip. Also, prototype custom Iconia case ships to me today for a review and should be available stateside after the 26th. It's similar to the FUSE.
I also use a Targus stylus for iPad as it was called.
Has a soft rubber tip, but works great on my device.

Nah - all I've found are really crappy too.

Will be doing an indepth review of the Note - let me know your questions!

Hi everyone,
I'm getting a Note (whenever it does actually release that is).
Keen to know what questions you have about the device? Either ask here, or post a comment here (it'll probably be easier for me to track questions via the blog).
Will also be getting a Razr and Nexus if you have questions about those handsets.
Hey!
I can't wait to get this phone!!
The stylus looks interesting, and I'm keen to know whether it feels "right" as a pen and paper substitute. Can you write on the screen easily without the stylus dragging too much/feeling too slide-y etc? I'm talking purely as using this as pen/paper rather than using handwriting-recognition etc.
Oooh - also, if this is something you were planning to do, I'd be interested to know how Divx/videos look/work over HDMI out
And battery life is always a good Q, although I know it normally takes a week or two to get a feel for this.
Very jealous of your new phone! Thanks for your report
Thanks man, I waiting for one myself. My one question is: When can I upgrade to ICS? Not easy for to answer
An overall comparison between the devices would be nice.
I am so hopeful that it will come to the US on AT&T, I'll skip the SGS II for this one! I'm very interested in the stylus and its functions, if you could go over that I'd appreciate it.
Please try to include stuff that other videos don't.
It seems like the videos cover the exact same stuff over and over - it's incredibly boring. I'm close to making my own video actually, if I don't see a review that I like.
Stuff I want to know, for example:
1) Most of the stylus writing demos are stupid. They write 'HELLO' or "BOB' in huge finger paint letters.
That's not how it's supposed to be used. It's supposed to emulate a pad of paper and a pen. Can you write, say, a shopping list on it? Is it comfortable to write on? Does it have enough friction or does the stylus slide all over the place? Is it really noisy and would annoy everyone around you? (plastic vs glass = tap tap tap generally) How comfortable is the stylus?
How well does say, a regular capacitive stylus work? what exact functions will you lose? (pressure sensitivity, screenshot button, anything else?)
2) Show some pocket tests. Show how easily it slides into say, a front jeans pocket. Then sit down. Do jacket pockets, or whatever. People always ask how pocketable it is.
3) Ideally show some useful ways to use the stylus.
There's a demo of some guy circling the weather map and writing 'nice weather'. is anyone really going to do that?
The 'trace an outline to crop'- that's clever. Anything else like that?
A better example is to say, take a screenshot of a map, with buildings circled that you want to visit. I think a stylus is at its best when annotating things like documents or whatever.
4) Does the s-pad scroll, like you are a window above a larger sheet of paper? or is a fixed block?
- Frank

Like jeans, trousers etc. Might as well have to completely refresh my wardrobe for this.
One thing that I did not see yet is how the applications would look like in 1280x800 and compare to let's say a regular 800x480.
Can we return to a 800x480 mode if we want (with a reduced window)?
How easy is it to crop images ? What are the different functions of the built in drawing program?
Are there any other apps for taking notes compatible with the pen ?
Does the pen work as a mouse in a VPN connection/remote connection to a Windows system ?
On the audio outputs, what is the maximum output level?
Can you take pictures with the volume buttons ?
Hi,
Im interested much on Note, because dont want to have both smartphone and tablet PC, so hope Note can replace both.
Im worry about matter, said on some forum & review: Note as phone is too big but as web browser is too small.
Also with a high price, i worry to buy very expensive but not for daily use product.
Pls give your review how Note is comfortable for the daily use?, Can it completely replace a smartphone and tablet ?

Why on earth would you want the former?
I have some games on my current phone which don't scale, and appear in the middle. I can't stand it - the controls are impossible. ( i guess since we have the stylus it is okay, but why would you actually want this? It's not like you can open multiple windows)
I'm quite certain the answer to the last question is no - you have to use the camera app (and I beleve the galaxy s 2 is the same way)
- Frank
Is the touch experience as fluid as galaxy s2? I mean is the stylus an added bonus or a requirement? Did you try throwing it against the wall?

It's a matter of taste, and how you use a phone/tablet.
As far as tablet goes, would you be willing to go down to a 5.3" screen for pocketable 24x7 access? Depends - for example if you read a LOT, maybe you prefer that 7"/10" screen.
As far as replacing your phone goes - it's mostly how big are your hands, and how important is one handed usage? This is a two handed device, like all tablets.
- Frank
Can you also answer my concern?

It seems just like a big S2 (I have both), the stylus is a bonus, not needed.
I didn't throw it against the wall, since my S2 has become to small, so I will throw that against the wall.

Like jeans, trousers etc. Might as well have to completely refresh my wardrobe for this.

No, you wont have to I guess.... Until now the Note fits everywhere where the S2 fitted before.

This is just in case the scaling looks odd or in case the app does not launch properly.
The scaling from iphone to ipad apps is quite bad, often I don't use the scaling for iphone apps on ipad so just making sure you can remove scaling if you want to.
Please test the audio quality in headphone out and let us know if its good or atleast any better than galaxy s2.
Test the glonas gps. How does it work? Does it work without internet connection?

Can you write, say, a shopping list on it? Is it comfortable to write on? Does it have enough friction or does the stylus slide all over the place? Is it really noisy and would annoy everyone around you? (plastic vs glass = tap tap tap generally) How comfortable is the stylus?

The Stylus has nearly no friction and is sliding very fast over the glass. A little tap noise is there, but not annoying. Also the Stylus is a little bit small! imho its not very comfortable to write but for me thats ok because I just wanted the big screen

2) Show some pocket tests. Show how easily it slides into say, a front jeans pocket. Then sit down. Do jacket pockets, or whatever. People always ask how pocketable it is.

It fits in a front jeans pocket but if you sit down it is visible a litte bit at the top of the pocket!

How easy is it to crop images ? What are the different functions of the built in drawing program?

With the stylus very easy because if you hold the button on the stylus and hold a long tap on the screen it takes a screenshot of the whole screen!

Are there any other apps for taking notes compatible with the pen ?
Does the pen work as a mouse in a VPN connection/remote connection to a Windows system ?

The Stylus works everywhere like a finger, only that it is more accurate for handwriting/drawing! I tried Gmote and it works flawlessly!

On the audio outputs, what is the maximum output level?

On maximum the speaker sound is really loud. It sounds quite well. While watching a video everything sounds loud enough and clear!

Unfortunately only the on-screen button works!
