Anyone have the HD in hand? - Touch HD General

With the Touch Pro/Fuze, there were a few people I bumped into that had the device in hand before the release (job perks). Does anyone lurking this forum have the device in hand, or know someone that does?

I played with it in Gitex Dubai - UAE. Looks nice but i hate to judge a device while it is being connected to a power cable and a security cable.

can understand that. lst time i went into a shop to try out a touch diamond just to see the interface, it didn't even work because those idiots at the shop connected the security cable on top of the screen, destroying it ^^
But beside of this, can you tell us about your experience? how big does it feel? whats with the screen size? how does the interface handle on this version . tell us every bit!!

Sure,
Size: seemed big in hand, but again, i beleieve this sense is due to the 'Cables' below and Behind :|
Screen size and quality: simply Amazing.
Performance: seemed excellent, without any lag. better than diamond.
Look & Design: Better than what u see in utube or images

did you take a look at the virtual keyboard? if so, is it much better than on the diamond. (bigger keys, more space to read what your tiping and so on)

I can't wait any longer. I hope what you saying here we all wait to see for the coming moment of truth, please HTC release our TOUCH HD on the market as soon as possible

haha, i cant wait also for the release ....
as for the keyboard, it is yes, way better than hat on diamond. but i am using TOUCHPAL on diamond, so i can't tell exactly the difference from the built in which i never used.
Good thing, yes, the upper part of the screen is too big where u can see more while typing.

Hi,
May I know the dark silver frame around the screed is made by metal or plastic with plating only?

I was at the phoneshop today...
Seems like they will have it on display inside 10 days.....

I too am eager to get this device, and am psyked that no one in the US will carry it. Just makes me that much more unique than the typical iPhone carrying fool here.

Good. I liked the sturdy feel of the Diamond which was largely because of the robust feel that the metal border gives.
Good thing the HD has this too.
Does it feel solid in general? I like a phone that feels heavy and solid. I know the weight spec but it all comes down to the total feel.

another one bites the dust... good bye xperiancers... :(

guys. it was pure JOY to be an owner of SE Xperia, but enough is enough. I just got another cracks so I've decided to let it go and got myself new htc hd2.
seriously, typing in landscape on it is not that bad and comparable speed/accuracy wise with that not so perfect x1 physical qwerty. btw... speed. snapdragon. do I need to say more?
anyway... I guess no x2 for me after what I've seen on videos. no n900 either, even if I was considering getting one. x2 is daaaamn tooo slooooooww (seems to stutter even more than x1) and n900 unfortunately is a one big bug and shortcoming.
wish me luck...
see You on other parts of the forum. bye...
BTW: anyone knows what've happened with orelsi?? I almost miss that crazy bugger always knowing better... maybe his xperia finally cracked and he commited seppuku?? lol
lol good luck with your hd2, im thinking of buying one myself as a second device
btw, i too was wondering what happened to orelsi lol, havent seen him around here for a while, let's hope he aint clocked out
Well always good luck with the device you wish beeing the best for you.
Capactive screen is like seppuku for me,
As for HD2.
Actually I wonder more and more often what will I do in the future.
Even considering that I'll get my X2, I assume capactive will become
a ****ing tendency soon.
In this case I don't imagine using TouchScreen anymore!
well there will be two of us ... i hate so much capacitive ... but there might be some explanation for this ... my hands get really wet often and touching with the sensitive part of my fingers and swaping around gives me the nerves so i always touch the screen with the nails or top finger ... and not to mention the stylus problem ... I hope there are more people who dislike this thing... Ive heard there are also screens hybrid ... capacitive and resistive screens around.
And what the hell ... I dont get it this finger typing is by default non precise how can you make objects so big that you can use only your finger in such a small screen ... Web pages are not so big and with buttons there are also links ...
This is all Iphone fault
the snapdragon really makes a big difference in the speed and performace compared to slow x1 doesnt it??
i too dumped my x1 for a snapdragon phone. the lower-profile acer s200. lol. (hd2 a tad too big for me).
now i can watch hq wmv videos with no stutter at all.
i was looking at that phone as a replacement but just cant afford a new one when the x1a is still fullfilling my needs.
good luck with that phone, looking forward to reading your xperience (pun intended) with the hd2. hopefully next year i will replace my x1a with the hd2 or maybe an hd2 pro in the future.
well... still here. waiting for hd2 (delivery on monday, great deal with o2).
do not get me wrong, as I am not trying to convert anyone to hd2, but this whole need for resistive screen and real qwerty is becoming less and less obvious for me.
capacitive screen, read - toughened glass, hard to scratch, forces companies like ms to improve ui on their systems. see... the only good uses for styli are handwriting (are You handwriting with Your mouse on a pc?) and drawing (again, are You so much better with drawing using mouse on a pc comparing to sketches made with finger on a capacitive touch screen??). imho multitouch is more important than stylus.
qwerty... well... again - do some tests as I did. spb keyboard 4.1.1 trial, landscape fullscreen with clicking sound for better typing feel. I couldn't believe my eyes, as it wasn't much slower (if it was at all) or less accurate.
all I'm going to miss is xperia's still shot quality. some pictures shot in daylight are comparable quality with real cameras, and not those ****ty ones.
... but hey. I won't have to convert videos anymore.
anyway... I will keep my x1 as a backup device and I'll come back in here to share my hd2perience from ex x1 user point of view.
btw, I am not beeing paid for it.

i am torn between the HD2 and the X2
X2 = slow and keyboard
HD2 = Fast and no keybard
But i am so tempted to get the HD2 - to be honest i cant ever see my self using like the tilewave etc on x2 >.<
yeah... spb ms 3.5.x and manila are mos def better option than panels. have You tried that test with onscreen keys that I mentioned above? this and a visit in local o2 shop to get the feel of it convinced me to give it a go.
the last thing I was worried about was the lack of d-pad, but... honestly I do not play games much. other thing is that with recently hacked multitouch api apps like fpsece could use it in the future for virtual onscreen pad.

that would be really funny if it were true.
I think I might upgrade to a N900 after I save enough money - the X1's reception issue is a nightmare, even after testing 8 radio versions. At least with Nokia there is assurance of reception quality - what use is a smartphone if I can't even access 3G?! Or any thing except for WiFi, for that matter. Reception is sporadic at best, and at worse it doesn't even pick up a signal but my Nokia does display full signal strength...

Well exactly my points.
I am not sure why everyone so upset with X1, except for kinda wimpy 7200 chip.
I like keyboard, and don't really care about resistive or capacitive touchscreen. I am fine with either.
The one thing I don't use that much, but I am certain I would greatly miss is the physical keyboard. I don't think I am going to switch until there is a full keyboard on a snapdragon.
The cracks that everyone complains about are really just a cosmetic issue, and I don't really care too much about it (although I did re-shell my phone to make it black).
It is always kind of interesting to me the various types of devices that people decide to get and why. For the most part I understand each individuals reasoning, but I am yet to be swayed that there is a better device for me.
If anyone knows of a full QWERTY hardware keyboard unit with a snapdragon that is on the horizon PLEASE let me know.
Also, I miss Orelsi in a weird way. I suppose it was just his belligerent insistence on his perspective. I bet he got an iPhone too,
EDIT: I forgot about one thing that greatly aggravated me (although I had same problem on Kaiser) was that the keyboard goes bad and needs cleaning. Because of that I reshelled because I figured if I am gonna tear it apart anyway I might as well make it look like new.

actually there's one announced quite recently,LG eXpo GW820, 1 Ghz+qwerty, plus finger print security and a detachable projector as an optional accessory. it was initially announced for the american market and didnt mention european market,so we shall wait n see.
you might also want to keep an eye on toshiba n Acer as well, since they both got on the 1 Ghz ladder pretty early but havent make it go with qwerty yet.
btw,I am on the same boat with you, just want a decent processor with qwerty win mobile, not fussy about how advanced the bloody touch screen is going to be whatsoever...

Yeah, actually I knew of that, but I am afraid of leaving XDA, so I guess I meant an HTC-based device with physical QWERTY and snapdragon
Nothing in particular against LG, but I am not sure I want to deal with their ugly iPhone-like interface.

Faulty touch panel?

I have an issue with my DHD touch screen, and before i return it, I thought I'd see if anyone else has the same issue.
When dragging horizontaly, the image speeds up the slows down. It's hard to explain so i've posted a video. Up/down scrolling is fine.
Notice what happens when I draw a diagonal in a paint program. Am I the only one with this issue?

I can confirm I have the same issue as show in the video.

Hardly! No other HTC device I've had exhibits this behaviour. It's damn annoying when slow scrolling a web page.
Sent it to HTC!!!
seems there are bad notices every day I get convinced to go and buy with no regrets
Please let us know what they say about this strange behavior...
Could it be the dirt in the screen ? 0_o have you tried it with it cleaned or with a pen ?
Unfortunately it seems as though this is just the way that the touch sensor works, mine does the same thing. Maybe a better driver for the touch sensor will improve the way it behaves.
Check this article for comparisons.
http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile...een-accuracy-test-iphone-still-wins-20100325/
That's the way the touch works on the DHD. All of them do that.
my legend did this to, but i think in the case of the DHD is that the effect would be amplified somewhat because its moving more cause the screen is larger with the same amount of pixels hence the scroll distance in pixels is the same only its moving over a greater area making it more obvious than on smaller screen phones
but for the most part most capacitive screens have this.

Nice link thanks.
If this is meant to be normal behaviour, then it's very dissapointing. This is my second phone with a capacitive screen, the other being a HTC HD2.
The HD2 doesn't do this, either in winmo 6.5 or Android.
Damn, what a setback
I was so going to buy DHD but this makes me reconsider.
Maybe I should wait until 8th November when samsung relases a new android device
mine has the same problem
The side-to-side scrolling looks like its related to the elastic recoil effect on homescreen scrolling - try in something with the elastic effect, is it the same?

Try 'finger paint', free in the market.
I emailed HTC and got a garbled broken English reply, telling me to return my phone to the retailer for an exchange. If all DHDs are the same, there's no point. But if some are worse than others, I may consider it.

I have found (unscientifically) that it recognizes all ren fingers at once...

the multitouch is fantastic. so far i can tel it recognizes all 10 fingers. i know cause an app i use for the little ones called toddlerlock picked up all my fingers.
Ten fingers with the app! Some reason I highly enjoy using the otherwise useless app.

Well, from a user perspective, so far I have had a Notion Ink Adam - ebayed because the viewing angles were SHOCKING, and 3 Asus Transformers, all returned because of build quality issues.
The Iconia is by far the best of the 3 I have tried, and a definite keeper, bigger than the Xoom, but in my opinion, far easier to hold in one hand because of the extra bevel round the edge.
Buy one, I honestly don't think you will regret it.

There is definately a difference, the transformer screen is amazing with ipad standard viewing angles.
As for general quality, I think you have to get pretty close up to notice any difference at all for armchair surfing and the like.
And for me the slight drop in quality was worth it for the lack of light bleed around the edges of all my 3 transformers.

Can't say I'm disappointed that it is plastic and not metal. He seemed to drone on about the plastic design. Sure plastic shells can scratch easily, but they stand up better over time than metal ones. I've had several devices metal and plastic, and metal always interferes with signal quality and when it bends, it doesn't bend back into place like plastic does. My TF201 looks terrible with all of its dents and scratches but my Evo 3D with its plastic back and only a little bit of metal around the edge is looking decent (except for the metal which is scratched and nicked.)
What is everyone's deal about plastic? A ceramic coating would have been interesting, but we have already seen the coating chipping off on one model of the HTC One series phones.
EDIT: Ok, so I see I wasn't the only person that found the way he complained about the keys and other nitpicking to be a bit biased and annoying.

Although...iPhone smooth?Nowadays the iPhone is Android smooth. With ICS my Desire HD is smoother than the iPhone 4 of a friend and rivals the 4S.My S2 rapes them both.

stay away from ceramic coating!!! good thing Samsung didnt go there.
I sent my 3d htc one s back for a refund and preordered the SGS3 for that reason alone!!
By the way, flimsy plastic? So what? You scratch it and buy a new one, the phone looks like new.

I'd have loved it to be HTC Sensation-style,where you can replace the whole housing apart from the screen in the form of a battery cover. That way you just don't give a rat's ass about scratches etc.
Very annoying. Love the phone. Plastic back is better for radio signal. Drop a plastic backed phone and you will get back a scratched but still very much working phone not like a glass backed device. Very easy to tell an I-Phone fan boy. Could not watch or listen to entire video due to the annoying Fan Boy.

phonearena is generally good as long as it wasn't reviewed by Ray S

S-Voice looks promising, hope to see it surpass SIRI.
camera has HDR?! WOW! if its true HDR =]
Camera is not finished, so those shots you saw in another thread arent from a production model either

This was John V or something.
Well, they are a really good site in fact. They may not have all the stuff Anandtech does, nor do they publish everything new instantly like SlashGear,Engagdet etc,but they do it all and do it well(Does that sound somehow...? ).I prefer them for my everyday mobile tech news reading.
EDIT:****,I must have my ears checked. He is Ray.John isn't the fanboy.I confused the voices and thought John was the annoying one.

HTC One Black Scuffs

Can anyone with the HTC One in black confirm that it does not scuff like the paint on the iPhone 5? I currently have an iPhone 5 and it will suck to go to another phone that is painted black.
Not seen anyone with a black HTC One yet on these forums but if they exist I am sure they will let you know.
There is a short video on YouTube that answers this. I can't post links as I am a noob here but if you search for 'HTC One Anti Scratch' you should find it.

paulobrien has one you can ask him.
Or you can ask the reviewer from CNET also.
Andrew Hoyle
Black is not released yet but we have been assured it is anodised. The iPhone5 was a joke arriving with chips in the paintwork out of the box! While it is VERY hard to produce things perfectly and there may be a slight flaw somewhere on the phone, some of the iPhone 5s were shocking.

FWIW - I have been using an iPhone 5 since launch day without a single scratch on it (no case or protector). I do however treat my phone considerably better than most. It has never been dropped and is always set down on something soft, never on hard surfaces.
Again, it all depends on how you treat the phone. Under the right conditions, I'm sure the HTC One will scratch as well. Hopefully not as easily as the iPhone though.

Thanks for the video. And that's okay, I don't mind a scratch here and there as my iPhone has scratches as well. But what really concerns me is CNET.co.uk's review of the HTC One Black where they mention the HTC One is actually painted, not black anodized metal, so it chips even faster than an iPhone 5. That in itself is concerning.
I really want a beautiful Android phone like this one, but unfortunately there are some things that are starting to turn me off, like the buttons that are too pushed in with the phone and the IR blaster being on the left, as well as the 2,300maH battery which would've been great for yesteryear but no so much to today's standards.
It's so hard to find a beautiful phone that performs like you want it and has top of the line specifications. I had the HTC One X and had to return it due to manufacturing defects and other problems with Sense (goddamn I hate Sense).
Sorry about that rant, just wanted to know about the black scuffs as that would be a dealbreaker for me.
Cnet.co.uk review got it wrong, it's not painted. It's anodized for sure.
Op, can you change the topic to: .... does not scuff?

iPhone 5 is painted or it would not do this

We are told that the Black one is anodized, but as nobody has a black one yet, we don't know for sure. It will be April before anyone has one I understand.

While I'm not trying to start a war here, because I don't know this stuff as well as some others, I do know that the iPhone is anodized.
A large part of an anodizing process (and it's overall resistance against scuffs/scratches) comes down to the type of metal and its hardness (tempered vs. non-tempered) along with depth, dye, and the finishing process itself. Anodizing is quite a bit different than just spraying some paint on something and moving along - however, it does have the ability to chip/scuff almost just as easily (depending on the process and materials used).

this guy doesn't understand what anodized means...
"Now, after using the phone for more than a week, I can say it’s surely one of the best phones out there, if not the best. It’s got issues, for example, with the pretty finish chipping off, but I’m been very impressed in other areas like battery life and camera."
this is from one of the reviews. do not trust the video on youtube.
Don't forget the guy in that review clearly states he DID put the one and his keys in the same pockets for a week to get these dents.

but to be fair, you do carry other stuff in your pocket..
within a week is a poor result to be honest.
Silver is the way to go
to be fair i make a point of never putting anything in a pocket that my phone is in.

I don't. Never did, and the time I went to a show and put my SII in a zippered pocket I got nasty scuffs, when the taking out.
But the pocket with the phone, is always the phone alone...
