gps function? - P3600 General

ok so i just upgraded to the gps rom....
what are some good maps i can install and use with this newfound gps function....
possibly free if not available for trial at the very least...

ok first things first, can someone post the settings i should have under my gps settings and program settings
i'm using googlemaps right now and it went through the initialization phase of gps fine and now its stuck at seeking gps satellites....
how long does it usually take to find satellites?

nvm got it to work......had to stand by the window
SWEET!!!!!
now get this going for the hermes and im in heaven! it will have EVERYTHING!

There's no built-in GPS on a Hermes. Yes, it does share the Trinity's GPS-capable processor and the same software, radio firmware and drivers work on the Hermes, but there's no antenna in the Hermes and no way to connect one.

XDAII + TomTom2 + BT GPS = Slow?

I just purchased the Fortuna Clip_On Bluetooth Reciever for my XDAII. First install went fine, I set it all up and used it walking home from the station. The TomTom software worked faultlessly and was quick to use. When I got home I closed TomTom, turned off the GPS and put the XDAII on the charger. In the morning I opened TomTom to setup a trip to France. When I opened TomTom it was VERY slow. It took about 8mins to open the application and navigating around the software was impossible. It did not crash or give me any errors it was just real slow. I uninstalled the application and reinstalled it. This seemed to solve the situation temporarily and off I set on my journey. After the first leg of my Journey I turned it off whilst on the Ferry. Next time I turned it on it was back to snails pace and so rendered it useless for the rest of my journey.
Any ideas whats going on? Is this a common problem?

What type of card? sd/mmc?
what version xda roms
what other apps. e.g. GPRS mon is known to cause problems sometimes.
try tomtom 3, it's much faster / more reliable.
I'm using xda2(1.6) + sd +cf, tomtom 3.01 + fortuna gps without problems.
you need GPS driver version 2.09!!!
I had the same problem cause I was using driver version 2.00, then I moved to v2.09 and it worked perfectly.
Ciao
I tried last week TomTom3 + i-mate+ Royaltek BT GPS, I drove in the UK. Everything worked very good all the time.
I am using all the latest ROMS, with Bluetooth tools.
How can I check my BT driver version?
It is a 256 SD card (Viking Interworks)
Rom Version: 1.60.00WWE
ROM Date: 12/03/03
Radio Version: 1.10.00
Protocol Version: 1.337.18
ExtROM Version: 1.60.50
Not much else is installed, I am using 1-calc and the check/clear notifications app. Thats it
Where do I get the updated GPS Driver?
give me your email via pvt msg and I will send to you, ok?
I tried to post it in the forum, but no way.....
its ok i found it on pocketgps. However it has not solved the problem. I installed the GPS update, cold booted and the same problem exists
Any other ideas?
what i do not understand is why it would work perfectly for about 2 hours then just slow right down like this.
Have you set GPS connections to:
- TomTom Wireless GPS
- Bluetooth GPS
I have these settings in v2.09 GPS and it work perfectly with fortuna clip-on...
I repeat that I had the same identical problem as you have and I solved with 2.09 driver and the settings you see above...
good luck
oops, actually i just noticed its 2.07 i updated to.
How big is the 2.09 update?
I found the 2.09 update on the web, but its not solved anything
after the update it is still really slow

?????????????????? WHAT ABOUT YOUR SETTINGS ??????????????
GPS Connections? I'm not sure what you mean by this?
Under TomTom GPS I have it set to:
SiRF 38400
COM5
I have it unticked at the moment as I am just trying to get it working properly. The PDA Slider is set to Zzz and sound is on.
Under TomTom GPS I have it set to:

and see what happen... 99% you solve with this settings cause it was the same for me. TRY these settings, let fortuna and XDA2 communicate and that's it!
I don't want fortuna and xda2 to communicate. I want to be able to use create routes without the gps reciever connected. At the moment it takes about 5mins for TomTom to just launch.
i tried these settings and it is still slow, i timed 6mins to launch the application and a further 1min to open the menu.
what other apps?
Wizer,
What other apps do you have?
Have you tried hard reset + reinstall ? First backup with say sprite backup.
I think this is driver related. Uninstall tomtom then reinstall with the latest gps drivers, I am not sure you should be selecting sirf 38400 either.
i tried installing from clean install and i tried with the latest GPS drivers. Nothing solved it. In the end I have had to install tomtom3 which has strangely solved the problem for now. All I have to do now is find the Great Britain maps

Bluetooth GPS, T-Mobile MDA... May God Make This Thing Work

Ok I've pretty much tried everything, been browsing the boards for over 6 hours for solutions. I've tried everything and just flat out can not get my Bluetooth GPS to work with preetty much any software I've tried. Using the T-Mobile MDA USA model here with Windows Mobile 5.0.
I did the registry tweak and managed to get the GPS Icon in my connections section. Messed with all the settings there, no luck.
I'm using a Ambicom BT-GPS that I used to use with my IPAQ 6315. Worked flawlessly with IGuidance but no luck. The MDA see's the device, successfully pairs the device. But no matter what settings I try to use I just can't get anything good to happen here. Should I abandon the Ambicom GPS? Is it just not going to work with the MDA? Should I try other software? I'm not all about shelling out bucks for software that I'm not sure is going to work.
Is anybody out there using a working bluetooth GPS setup with the USA T-Mobile MDA? What are you using, what are you running and what hoops did you have to jump through to get it working? I don't mind spending a little bit of money if I know it's going to work.
You did not state which model ambicom gps receiver you have but have you tried the updated drivers here for wm5?
http://www.ambicom.com/support/installation/gps/index.htm
hope this helps
Sorry bout that, it's the basic 1.0 version, BT-GPS...
Apparantly they don't let me download it because I don't send them enough money. That only works with their version of the navigator which is basically the IGuidance software re-branded. I do however have the 2.1 version of IGuidance.
That may be your problem then - try to get wm5 drivers for your device - not sure where from.
I am not a gps expert but few of the readers have praised the holux 236 gps and works with the wizard - and has the new gps chip
see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=44567&highlight=gps
For some reason, my first Holux GPSlim 236 did the same thing (Mapopolis this time). Surprisingly, an exchange did the trick. If you have a friend with a PDA, I'd suggest he try it too and see if it isn't a bad unit. That's the way I found out.

I have had a huge problem with getting GPS software to work with my MDA... the only marginal success I had was when i got Tomtom Navigator working with my Holux GPSlim 236. At first it didnt work, and I thought I hit a road block. But I switched the outgoing Com ports and got it working. But then I realized that I only had the Great Britain maps, so i downloaded the California maps, but the software wont work. I gave up on Tomtom and am going another route. I really cant get it working. Here is the link where I got the software for Tomtom. All other programs wouldnt work because there is an incompatability with Windows Mobile 5.0. This file works. http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3410079 Good luck.
Going a bit off topic (and not very helpful), but i was amazed to find out the BT Handsfree and BT GPS works at the same time
I'm dead happy to be able to talk and use TomTom at the same time. Everyone i asked said you cant use to BT devices at the same time. Great stuff.
Yes I do enjoy the fact that BT handsfree and BT GPS work in conjunction on my Wizard... really nice.
As for the original poster's issues. I use iGuidance with my Wizard (8125) and it was a bit confusing to get going at first. This is what I had to do.
1. Pair the GPS and the Wizard
2. Select the Com Ports tab and set up a new OUTGOING port, it should default to com6. I would uncheck the secure connection box as I don't think you have to have a secure connection to your GPS, but thats just me. If it doesn't work try checking it.
3. In IGuidance select the tools, GPS options, COM Port, and set it to com 6 just like it defaulted to com 6 in the settings above.
4. Tap the GPS icon and see if you have data streaming over the BT GPS connection. Hopefully you do!
I find that iGuidance is a bit strange in that it wants to hit the GPS on the port so it actively goes to the GPS it just does not sit there and wait so that makes things a bit strange. Also you most likely need the 2.1.3.2NA version on your MDA. All other 2.1.3 versions have an issue and won't display the 3D view at all on QVGA devices... its a known issue that they have fixed in this version. Annoying as the DVD did not have this version on it and I ran into the problem and was annoyed until I went to their site and found the issue fixed.

TomTom 6 with BT Rikaline 6033 GPS

I would appreciate any help offered,
I have searched the threads but have not found much applicable
My problem is that I cannot get My Universal to talk consistantly to the Rikaline 6033 GPS the BT link will not stay up.
I am using a T-Mobile Universal with the excelent
JASJAR_WWE_19096_19505_11300_AKU_3_2_ship Rom
The only way I have found of getting the GPS to talk to the Universal BT
is to install "Virtual Earth Mobile",
get it to pair with the Rikaline GPS
and then run TOMTOM 6
TT 6 will then recognise the GPS on COM0
Every time I switch it off and back on I loose the conection and have to go through the whole rigmarole to get it to go again.
I have tried opening the other comms with WM5GPSfix but it doesn't seem to help
If someone has managed it and can let me know I would be very grateful
TIA
A side issue,
What is the reason that the first connection with AS 4.2 takes so long?
Thanks

TT and Garmin did work, but now not getting gps fix, advice please.

Hi!
I have read the other GPS threads and cannot find a solution, but will keep searching.
I managed with help from here, to get Tom Tom working and also Garmin XT.
Both worked with the internal gps chipset well, but last night they both stopped working.
My version of Tom Tom does not have the inbuilt receiver as an option so I used 'Other NMEA receiver' with COM4 and baud rate 4800 and it did work.
In Garmin's settings, I used COM4 and it worked.
Now both do not work. The Tom Tom just waits for a connection and Garmin shows a panel with Awaiting better GPS Accuracy
Both programs do work if I use an external Navman B1- Bluetooth receiver.
I have also tried PortSplitter but that does not seem to work either.
Any advice appreciated !

Sorry dude, I can't help you out BUT I have noticed there's a fairly newish version of Garmin XT out now

some people may not have noticed
Thanks !
that's the one I am using or rather I am not using but want to use

sorted now....

There is a program called GPS Info.
Try to find newest one or use mine from att (it works for Trinity).
It should test GPS.
thanks nimnull!
I am trying now...I do have an app called GPS Test but it doesn't display all of the screens of information. Did so on the Kaiser by using the scroll wheel.
Yes, it works thanks ! I am not sure what all of the numbers mean but I can guess
Ofiaich
More important, that GPS Test should make GPS "fixed".
Hi!
I can see, at the bottom of the screen, [setup][GPS Info] and can see activity but I am not sure where to look for "fixed"
I have not checked the boxes for VTG WAAS or PowerSave
Sorry to be slow
Ofiaich
GPS Test has to write that GPS is fixed and show your position.
If you still have Kaiser you can check there.
Mine GPS in Trinity doesn't work anymore
Hi again,
on my Kaiser, the screen downloads lots of data then stops. i.e. it does not keep on scrolling...like on the HD,
In the GPS Info view, it shows the satellites positioned in the concentric rings, but not figures for the lat: lon:
the date shows as 1601/01/01 So about the time the first Englishman set foot in Japan
so I now check the boxes for VTG and WAAS and the GPS Info now shows
2008/11/13 and also my location.
Back to the HD, checked the VTG and WAAS and date was same as for Kaiser but now has updated. Position updated too.
Screen on HD cuts off the right side of the data. so need some screen rotating utillity
Ofiaich
If GPS Info shows your location - it means that GPS is fixed and works OK!
Hi!
with the he boxes for VTG and WAAS checked, it does !
Thanks very much !

The Touch 3G does _not_ have a G sensor.

AGPS means Assisted GPS and enhances the startup performance of a GPS. This feature goes only with GPS and Jade has both of them.
R u telling me that this phone has a gps in the same way that the touch cruise has a gps?
Yes, it has its own gps just like the Cruise.
Do you have a jade? I ask this because i cant find ANY gps software in the htc. I have igo installed and it only recognizes the bluetooth gps i use.
Another thing, some websites state GPS and agps while others only mention agps.
EDIT: which specs does the gps have? Is it sirf III? Why can't i find any specs regarding any gps, other than agps?
I have a Jade, and yes it has GPS, TT7 installed, working fine, I tweaked the phone a little and disabled aGPS, using com4 9600.
Hope this helps.
Unbelievable! For a week now i've had this phone and i have not found anything about gps. I'm using an external antenna.
Can anyone tell me the specs of the gps?
I am not sure if it is needed, but I used QuickGPS to set the hardwareport for programs on comport4.
After that I installed TT7 and placed the receiver on "Other NMEA GPS receiver, 9600b.
Working nicely, even inside although ofcourse better working outside.
What I do know that at the first time with every TT version, you have to wait a minute or so before its starting to pickup signals.
Why don't you just have a look at the official HTC specs ?
http://www.htc.com/sea/product.aspx?id=71380
or
http://www.htc.com/europe/product/touch3g/specification.html
Yes, i saw the specs on the site, but not on the phone! How do i turn it on or off? is it always on? where in the user manual do they talk about the freakin gps?!
another win for the windows mobile.

Gotta agree here. My brother got an Omnia i900 an he had a hard time figuring out how to use the GPS, too.
But I guess someone here will explain it to you. I don't own the Jade yet.
The GPS is activated only if a (navigation) software is active and configured to use the GPS, if no such soft is started the gps is not used. If you have a navigation software active/started and the gps has not the right settings like wrong com port, then the GPS is not used, so it's OFF.
oK, I'll test it today.
Yesterday i read the user manual and the only reference was to the Quick GPS app.
No where else is mentioned the gps capabilities of this phone.
How do i know its not using agps and not standard gps?
Quick GPS is only for faster positioning (download information of satellites by GPRS, WiFi or ActiveSync). Helping program only. You need of some GPS program in order to run GPS. In this program you need first to configure port and speed. Especially in Jade these settings are com-4 and speed-57600 (IGO). But in some other programs may be is different.
Kudos to you guys!
Gps is alive. Tested on both igo and tom tom.
