O2 XDA Mini S, Active Sync 4.1/4.2 Problem - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi, I am looking for some help regarding a sync problem I am having with my XDA Mini S. I have recently re-installed my copy of Windows XP Home. Prior to this re-install I was able to sycn with my XDA using activesync 4.1. Since the re-install however when trying to sync I am presented with an error on the desktop machine.
Support Code:86000107
I have trawled the internet to find a solution, but to no avail. I have tried the new 4.2 beta of active sync and tried un-installing the software several times aswell as removing sync profiles form the unit.
Any help would be apreciated. I am using ROM version 2.21.4.1 WWE and Windows Mobile Version 5.0 (Build 14847.2.0.0)
Thanks

Thanks for the reply! I had tried searching the forum first, but my choice of keywords obviously let me down.
I have tried both disabling the firewall and ensuring DHCP is enabled. I am using the windows firewall controlled by Microsoft's Windows OncCare Live, and within which all processes associated with active sync have been granted permission to access the network.
The phone appears to be able to send data to the desktop pc, but the desktop fails for some reason. Any further advice?
thanks

Do you hear the usual "bing bong" type noise that Windows makes when a USB device is plugged in?
Does ActiveSync on the desktop even start up?
If so, on your PC goto Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections. When you plug the PDA in, does a new connection profile eventually show up in the Network Connections window? It will be called something like Local Connection #6 or something similar, I've renamed mine.

Yes everything connects and establishes a connection. I can browse the device and even upload to and from it. Active sync even tries to sync with the device, but then shows the error detailed above. The XDA was able to upload my contacts to outlook for example after the re-install of windows, but nothing is synced from the desktop pc to the xda.

See the Microsoft Knowledge base..........
............there's something I remember when I had this prob.
For me, it was ZoneAlarm firewall [free edition] which doesn't allow individual ports to be configured, just application rules [you can in Pro version] but in my research, I remember seeing something about Activesync not working even though the exception was set in Windows Firewall.
Try with NO firewall at all - probably best to pull your network cable if you're worried whilst you test ActiveSync with no firewall at all.
I'm sorry I can't post the reference but you should be able to find it again.
I now don't use any s/w firewall - I have a switch router with hardware router built in which shows as 'stealthed' to the outside world on all ports @ www.grc.com [ShieldsUp] and all my WM5 stuff works - ActiveSync and WiFi
I didn't get the error you did, mine just connected then hung whilst showing 'Syncronising'............'cept it never did !!! LOL but I could do all the other things as you describe....just no syncing.

Thanks for the reply. I have already tried without a firewall enabled at all but with no luck. I am trying to work out what is different with this installation tot he previous that worked.

I have found that I need to dissable the Sync of my contacts and it works with the Caldener etc. I have no idea why this is, but its the only solution I can find anywhere and its very frustrating.

That's a weird one, not be able to sync contacts but can do calendar events.
Have you tried a reinstall of outlook?
If so then, and this is just a guess, it could be that there is something wrong with a particular contact entry that's causing things to go wrong. Perhaps some invalid characters in any one of the many available fields (name, num, email address, website, notes etc).

Some solutions that worked for me
I had the problem with contacts not syncing when everything else would. My solution, which worked for me, was to:
1. disable 'contacts' in ActivSync options
2. sync as normal
3. disconnect device, reconnect device, sync again
4. re-enable 'contacts' in ActivSync options
5. contacts should now re-sync
Incidentally I found many problems with the ActiveSync partnership after restoring the device from a backup. The solution is to delete everything in the \Windows\ActiveSync folder on the pocket PC, go into ActiveSync options on the pocket pc and remove the partnership there. Finally delete the partnership on your PC.
I am running V-Com systemsuite on my PC (which I think uses the Sygate firewall) this firewall never interferes with my XDA Exec but oddly enough does so with my XDA mini S. If I disable the firewall - problem still exists. If I shut down the firewall completely (keeping Windows XP firewall running for security) the problem goes away.
Maybe some of this will help

I had moved the Outlook.pst file to a location other than the default. When I moved it back and created a new profile the error had gone. thanks for the help everyone.

Sounds like it was a corrupt pst file causing the problem then. I'm glad you got it all working now

First of all you have to open some ports in the sygate firewall: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/sygate.mspx
In my experience it's necessary to change the RNDIS driver settings in the mobile phones registry as well!
Use a regedit tool like PHM Registry Editor.
Here are the settings to be added (or to be changed respectively):
Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\RNDIS
Name of the Value to add: MTU
Type : DWORD
Data: 1514 (Value is Decimal)
Name of Value to add: MaxOutTransfer
Type: DWORD
Data: 1642 (Value is Decimal)
After a reset my Prophet (XDA Neo) synchronized well with active sygate firewall!

WM 2005 & ActiveSync 4.0- Solution

Somebody has trouble with WM 2005, ActiveSync 4.0 (in PC) is working not stable or hanging all the time and me too- Magneto with WinXP SP2, office 2003 SP1.
In my experience some solution can be improved as following:
1. ActiveSync via IR - very sample but too slow
2. ActiveSync via Bluetooth - sample and fast
3. ActiveSync via USB, we need to do some steps
+ Turn off firewall of OS windows
+ Open network cards on your Himalaya:: Settings/ Connections/ Network cards
+ Click "Remote NDIS host" and you can see: Marked " Use specific IP addres"
+ Click " Use server-assigned IP address"
+ Click OK
+ Connect your device to PC, ActiveSync must be working at least in my case

@ xpirate
You can try remove activesync 4.0 and reinstall again, reset PC, turn off firewall and reconnect.
the problem i have is with outlook and activesync. whenever i try and use activesync, it pops up with some dialog about outlook not being configured correctly. which is true, seeing as I DONT USE OUTLOOK FOR ANYTHING! so why is this happening? it's not even set to sync email as i dont use outlook!

I noticed the same problem with AS 4 - it would only synchronise Favourites and Files.
Read the error messages carefully and you will find one telling you to use the 'Detect & repair' option on Outlook. I did so and it synced properly.
It was when I went back to Outlook Express that I realised that my OE wasnt the default email client anymore - Outlook had taken over that function. I made OE the default client again and AS stopped synchronising - went back to the same old error.
From the above I can only conclude that AS4 will only synchronise with Outlook and not any other PIM programmes. It also requires Outlook to be your default email client if you want to sync - slimy lil microsoft trick.
If you have a firewall, you will also notice that ActiveSync tries to send out email messages - this is both annoying and scary. Who are these messages intended for - Microsoft? I have blocked AS4 from sending emails on my firewall, but I still have to do a 'detect and repair' which sets Outlook as the default email client everytime I want to sync...

I got the same problem with my Win2003Server box.
If you are running XP then you need to apply Service Pack 2
If you are running 2003 then you need to apply Service Pack 1
Seems that these packs have files "netrndis.inf" and "Usb_Rndis.ndi" that fix our problem
If you will find these files could you pls send them here? I dont' have SP1 installed and cant find these anywhere ((
I can confirm this.
On my office notebook I don't have SP2 on XP and Activesync does not work via USB (Bluetooth works).
On my home PC I have SP2 on XP and Activesync works via USB.
I guess I have to try to get these files somehow.
Patric
Update: OK, I got netrndis, but I don't have usb_rndis...
Hi Patric,
Thanx for the file!!!
Can you also post: rndismpx.sys AND usb8023x.sys ?
So, hope we will find a solution for non-SPed WinXPs and maybe for non-SPed Win2003
Thx!
OK, the files are attached. Does this help? I'm still missing the USB_rndis.ndi file.
Cheers Patric

Thank you very much for the files! No need for the "usb_rndis.ndi"
It seems to be working on XP but not on my w2k3 box :-(((
Here what to do with files on XP:
1) Open "Drivers" subfolder in your ActiveSync folder (i.e., c:\program files\microsoft activesync\drivers)
2) Copy all three files there: netrndis.inf, rndismpx.sys & usb8023x.sys
3) Put your I-Mate to the cradle
4) When device installation wizard will ask you to proceed with Automatic or Manual installation you need to Choose "Manual". Then open your activesync's Drivers folder. Choose "Windows Mobile-based device" and wait until installation is finishes...
Good Luck!

Have no exact idea cause didn't have such, but try to:
1) Disable ALL possible firewalls
2) Make sure your current ActiveSync Partnership is not "Microsoft Exchange" and if it is, just delete current partnership and create a new one
3) Remove "Email" from your sync list?!
4) Remove "Favorites" from your sync list?!
thx..
but..I have no firewall turned on (i had only microsoft firewall, it's off)
I have never connected to an exchange server, my partnership in activesync is only with my pc.
I have reinstalled activesync, not useful
removing items could help.. i'll give it a try
i'm going to sleep for now, thanks..
I *think* longhorn is very nice, but i'll stay with xp
I copied everything and did the procedure... now I get the error message 'Device can not start (10)'...
Not successful yet...

ActiveSycn 4.0 Works after all!!!
I fixed my ActiveSync USB problem...
I downloaded ActiveSync 4.0 from Microsoft's web site and instlaled over current AS4.0.
When I placed my MDA2 on the cradle, the same problem persisted, so with the PDA still in the cradle I unplugged the USB connector and then connected it again but to another port. Now the system detected a "new" device and installed properly this time so now it works 100%.
I hope this procedure helps you too!
By the way, I'm on Win XP (no SP2) and USB 1.1
Best regards,
Rayan
Does the activesync 4 can sync WM2003SE? cuz i got problem saying that version incompatible..

Activesync 4.0 / 4.1 and the Wizard - no go on the sync side

Help!
My spiffy new Wizard is not playing when it comes to the the syncing side of things...
I have Office 2003, and have been using async 4.0 with my WM5 blue angel quite happily. All works.
I installed ActiveSync 4.0 from the CD that came with the wizard, and then plugged in the wizard. "Retrieving settings..." comes up, and then nothing happens. I've left it for half an hour - no luck.
The communication seems fine, as I can explore "my mobile device" and that works well, but sync is no joy at all
I tried syncing over IR, and got told that error 85010014 had occurred. Googling shows I'm not alone.
I upgraded to 4.1. No joy.
I removed outlook and reinstalled. No joy.
I installed Office 2003 SP2. no joy.
Deleted partnerships from both devices. No joy.
Hard reset the wizard. No joy.
Changed my profile to not use cached mode. No joy.
I am a bit frustrated with this - any further suggestions? My only thoughts are that the firewall is blocking activesync's requests to the exchange server when it starts up the comms, but on the other hand the blue angel is happy! Help! please?
Hi Chiark,
I don't have another WM5 device to compare with, but my Wizard won't sync to Outlook on my laptop as long as Sygate Personal Firewall is loaded. If I exit SPF until the first sync happens I can then reload SPF and it keeps sync'ing away without a problem. If I set SPF to 'Allow All' it still won't work. The MS help pages mention what ports to open, but also mention problems with VPN clients that work in the same way, wedging themselves into the protocol stack.
I'd try disabling the firewall to see if it helps... On my work laptop with McAfee desktop firewall I can't adjust anything, but sync'ing over IR works fine. On my own, notes don't appear to sync, giving a similar error to yours, but I did read that another Thunderbird user fixed that by making Outlook the default mail client again.
Hope that helps..
Dox
(ocassionally of the ICE forum too ;-) )
Yeah, I have the same problem. Can't sync with the usb but can sync with IR. I tried closing Sygate FW but that didn't help any. I use Thunderbird as my mail client so always get a message saying that outlook is not my default mail client...blah blah. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but then why would it work over IR?
I am guessing something is messed up with the usb driver or something.
Thanks for the support
It's all pointing to an error with the outlook side of things, as I still can't sync over IR either, but I can explore the device quite happily.
I've run scanpst on all my pst files, no joy .
Try here, Microsoft have posted some clues
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx
thanks for that - I tried those. The best resource I've found is Chris De Herrera's troubleshooting; http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x.htm
In desperation, I've done everything again this morning.
I was assuming that setting my firewall to "Allow all traffic" would, bizarrely, allow all traffic. It wasn't.
I couldn't disable the firewall; I had to uninstall it.
It's now working, but hellishly slowly.
Why the Blue Angel will sync and this wont is beyond me!
Cheers,
Nick.
Well, sygate has had to go back on due to corporate policy... No joy. But the blueangel syncs.
ARGGGHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I installed AS4.x, one of the .dll's was called something like 802AFUSB.dll (from memory, so ICBW), which makes me think MS are running "Ethernet" over USB which suddenly brings activesync under the jurisdiction of our firewalls. I don't know if that's just done in firmware on "upgraded" devices, or maybe there's some hardware changes in native WM5 devices, that kick in the ethernet over USB that you don't get on upgraded or pre WM5 devices?
Do you need AS4 to sync the BA under WM5 Nick?
Dox
Hiya Dox, it's definitely firewall related IMHO, but I'll be stuffed if I can see what's wrong: the firewall isn't blocking any traffic, I've opened every port I can see, and it's still not working correctly.
the blue angel syncs using the same mechanism, over TCP/IP connection via USB, and does so without a problem.
Code:
Creating new partnership for device 0x0 (WM_Wizrard, PocketPC).
11/15/2005 11:28:48.342 p(356) t(2052) TraceToFile -> ERROR in CConfigMgr::GetConfig : hr = 0x80072746 - cfgmgr.cpp(318)

11/15/2005 12:51:44.361 **** ActiveSync exiting
Funny that crapi is causing the problem... Googling that number shows that it could be related to MSN or WM10, neither of which are present on the blue angel. I might install MSN on the host to see if that helps, but I can't see how it would.
I also think it might be to do with outlook running in cached mode as I changed that setting when I removed the firewall. Damn and blast!
Argggh!
Stranger and stranger: if I remove Sygate Security Agent, it works fine... However, corporate IT are rather against me doing this
The MS help docs do mention probs with VPN adapters that slot themselves into the protocol stack to do packet redirection. I only use SPF rather than the security agent but I guess it slots itself into the protocol stack to watch for apps attempting to use the network interfaces above it in the stack. I wonder if it's a software compatibility rahter than security policy problem. I'd guess wedging an additional layer into an already complex stack is far from trivial. Maybe MS just assumed everybody would have a nice clean TCP/IP stack with MS Firewall...
Does SSA not have an "exit" option? We did use ZoneLabs Integrity Agent on the work machines, but engineers could get a special profile pushed to them which llowed them to quit the app when they needed to connect to our kit on customer site which scrapped with IA. I only need to exit SPF to get the session started, I can restart it as soon as the sync gets underway and it's okay...
Roll on 4.2 and a fix to all this shenanigans
Thanks for the thoughts Dox. I agree that it's looking like incompatability rather than config, but I can't understand why the blue angel works: it's truly weird!
The "Exit" on SSA is disabled by our system administrators, meaning to get rid of it, I have to uninstall it . There is a "pass all traffic" option which doesn't appear to work.
I'll now secure my laptop with Windows Firewall; our group policy forbids us from turning it on, but I can sort that out.
Cheers!
Nick.

ActiveSync 4.1 with WIN XP Professional SP2

Hi,
Can someone help me? I recently bought iMate JASJAR. I have no trouble to connect with Desktop with ActiveSync 4.1 and WIN XP Home SP2. However, I have troubles to connect with the PC at work running ActiveSync 4.1 and WIN XP Professional SP2. The PC detect USB and Mobile Device but has error message saying not connected probably and may not work properly......
The ActiveSync never get connected. Please help. Thanks.
William
I used to have the same problem, but I discovered, as did others on this forum, that plugging the USB connecter into the Universal while the Universal is off works best.
1. Push the power button on the Universal to turn it off.
2. Connect the USB cable.
3. The Universal turns itself on, and
4. ActiveSync connects and syncs.
HTH!
I think there are issues with firewalls and anti virus applications that also prevent Active Sync from working correctly, maybe that's where your problem lies?
Regards
Take a view your Windows firewall, then, open the exceptions and look about the ActiveSync and fix it.
Hi, Everyone: Thanks for the advise. However, I tried all you mentioned but still not working. My problem is the PC did not recognize the device from USB connection. I did try the windows firewall and make sure the check mark shown on all "ActiveSync" items. But it is still not getting recognized. I have no troubles for Win XP Home Editions w/SP2 at home PC. I am having the same AntiVirus and Internet Security (All from Symantec) on Home and Work PCs.
Please advise.
Thanks.
Wel, Be sure you have the last ActiveSync 4.1 version?
What do you think if you erase the program (in the PC that you have the problem) and install it again.
I had have the same problem and I did the way I share with you. Let me know if it works!
Luck.
Hi
I had same problem.
I fixed it by plugging my ppc into my laptop once that connected i then plugged it back into my main pc and bingo
_^.^_
Hi,
I did reinstall the ActiveSync 4.1. Then, the other finally recognize the device now. However, I have two other problems now:
(1) The Sync did not get completed. I always got Erroe Emssage saying "The ActiveSync encounters problems from desktop. Support Code: 85010014.
(2) Then, I tried to connect to the old machine which I Sync no problem before, now it processing the Sync forever.
It appeared that I cannot really Syn for both machines now.
Please advise.
Try to soft reset your ppc.
Regards,
Arto.
I have been struggling with a similar (perhaps the same) issue which I have just found the fix for.
The environment is Exchange2003 SP2, ISA2004, XP PRO SP2 laptop running Activesync 4.1, Win Mobile 5.0 phone edition PDA (Qtek 9000).
The PDA synchronises with Exchange Activesync Server via a cellular (GPRS) connection no problem.
The problem we had is when the PDA was attached to the laptop via the USB cable (or Bluetooth) - the error we got was " Your account in Microsoft Exchange Server does not have permission to synchronise with your current settings. Contact your Exchange Server Administrator. Support Code 85010001 " which is clearly cobblers because it syncs fine over a GPRS internet link. Also the PDA takes between 2-3 minutes to error out and I have seen some posts in other topics that interprett this delay as a failure.
The above symptoms occur after a hard reset of the PDA and a de-install / re-install of Activesync 4.1 on the Win XP Pro laptop.
The clue to the fix was that another domain user, using the same Win Mobile 5.0 device, and the same Win XP Pro laptop, had no problems via a USB connection and I could not see what was different about their AD / Exchange permissions.
It turns out that new domain users using Win Mob 5.0 PDAs have no problems whereas existing (older) users (possibly those who used PPC 2003) have got something in their domain profile that causes the problem. Solution is to delete the domain profile (a copy first would be wise) and recreate it - bingo problem solved.
Hi, Waltzing:
Thank you very very much about your comments. You are very correct. My case is with Notebook running XP Pro SP2 which I used at work and was connected to iMate PDA2K w/WM 2003 2nd Edition before. I wait for almost 2 hrs to complete the Sync at home computer. I am kind of concern I have to wait so long everytime. Any advise?
Can you tell me how to delete the previous Domain as you indicated in your reply. I try not to hard reset the PDA. I already re-install the ActiveSync 4.1 and it can connected now. However, the Support Code is still there. I tried to Sync individually, but I always have the same problems for Calendar and Contact which are the most critical items for me.
Another issue for Contact. I found that I have several contacts has a lot of info in Note in PC but got truncated to the PDA JASJAR after Sync. Is that normal? Is there anything can be done to keep those lenghty note in the contact?
Please advise the procedures.
I really appreciate.
Thanks.
Hello Williamchu, I have done some more testing and I have to make a correction - I have solved this problem but for me it was NOT a profile issue. It is likely to be to do with your work proxy server.
As I am sure you know - in order for a WM 5.0 device to sync with Exchange Server via a GPRS cellphone connection you have to tell WM 5.0 the Internet URL of the Exchange Server - typically something like mobile.somedomain.com
When you connect your PDA to your PC via a cable - Activesync (on your PC) will search for the Exchange Server via it's name e.g. mobile.somedomain.com - the problem is that, in many local area networks, Activesync cannot resolve mobile.somedomain.com to the IP address of the Exchange server except via a proxy server (in our case an ISA server). This is why Activesync appears to hang - it spends all it's time looking for an Exchange Server it cannot find (I have also seen it throw up sys errors 85020006 and 85010001 at this point).
Connect your PDA to your PC (via a USB cable) after you have logged the PC onto your work domain.
On the PDA go to Start > Settings > Connections > Connections
Under "My Work Network" you will see either "Edit my proxy server" or "Set up my proxy server" depending on wether a work proxy server has been configured or not. You need to know what your proxy server name is and check both check boxes. Your IT guys will tell you what your
proxy server name is.
My apoligies for the bum steer about profiles - I have a complex test environment and changed 2 things simultaneously (without realising it) to try to fix this problem one of which was a new profile - which as it turns out has nothing to do with the problem. I hope this fixeds it for you.
Hi, Waltzing: Thank you for the info. However, what if I did not even select the Exchange Server to start with ActiveSync. I don't need to Sync the server. I just need to Sync the local machine Outlook Personnel Folders not the Public Folders. I skip the setup part when ActiveSync asked me. I still get the same error message.
Another issue, How can I delete files from "Storage Memory", somehow, it is 97% full. I installed most of the program in Storage Card which I have 4GB and I have plenty room left. I don't know why the "Storage Memory" got so full. After I uninstall some programs, I only free up Program Memory but not the Storage Memory. Any idea?
Do you have any idea about the Contact Note got truncated?
Thank you for all your kindness and advise.
William

Does anyone notice AS runs every 5 minutes? I first tried the Add Server Source hack by WM5 Axim users, but didn't work. I couldn't find any registry entry that relates to the sync frequency.
Apart from suffering the unplug usb and wizzard freeze problem seen here. AS syncs every 5 minutes really annoys me. I need to rely on AS's tcp via bluetooth to use networking on the device and AS is heavy weight process.
So far, I have some solutions:
1. kill the wce* processes, which leaves the device connected (TCP stack still works, USB charges) but AS on the desktop says disconnected. Your wizzard's AS will still TRY to sync every 5 minutes, but it'll return quickly because the desktop ain't listening. But remember to double click AS on your desktop when you need to sync stuff again.
2. Replace the useless MS bluetooth stack with the widcomm stack taken from the Atom? Then use the PAN profile for connection. Disconnect PAN and run AS via bt from the device when needed. (But PAN on PC is not always possible as company laptops will almost certainly not allow internet connection sharing, never mind allowing you to have BT PAN enabled in the first place)
So afterall, does anyone know how to re-enable manual syncing? Some registry hack? AS 4.x is such a big step backward, I already have to disable firewall and VPN service from my company laptop when connecting, AS 3.8 was so much better when I was with an ipaq or SP3i. May be a sticky with enough post on it to get M$' to fix AS.
There are numerous threads relating to AS 4.1 and starting every x mins .... Please try to search next time....
Anyway, the simplest way is to create a dummy server entry in AS (On the mobile device) then when creating it uncheck all the "MAIL / NOTES / ..." entries in the advanced section. Once the Server has been created you can modify the server sync to set it to never.
For more info have a look through this forum for other threads on AS 4.1.
sorry if that has been talked about alot before, I suspected it. But I did a search before and couldn't find related stuff on this site, plenty of firewall/VPN stuff found which I also had a problem with...
The Add Server Source hack has been widely referenced in the dell Axim WM5 forums. As I mentioned, it didn't work for me, my ROM is very recent, as the phone is new for two weeks. I couldn't find any entry in the device registry that suggests it will run at any schedule! Although I can see peak time settings...etc but none of the scheduling options in registry.
Am really wondering if this is a problem with the specific ROM.
Yeah, I aplogise, am I bad, didn't read all your post....
Have you got any other apps that try to update regularly like Weather plugins etc?
I can agree with humps on that.
I've got a new k-jam and tried to stop AS4.1 from syncing when not connected to pc, by creating a fake server then through options setting it to manual sync.
No luck however as it still comes up in the list of running programs whenever i check
fix for constantly syncing when USB-connected
Sorry in advance if this isn't the right place for this.
I was so mad about Activesync 4.5 re-syncing during two out of every five minutes when connected via USB that I implemented a workaround that might prove useful to others as well. The result is that you can click an icon on your desktop computer and instantly change whether your handheld willl connect to its partnership for syncing or as a guest for doing other work (or just charging). Most of my data syncs wirelessly with an Exchange server anyway, and MightySync and PocketController function independent of the ActiveSync partnership. Ah, the peace ;-)
Here are the steps:
1. Change HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\GuestOnly to "1".
2. Export HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners\[your device's partnership key] to a .reg file with name like "partnership.reg".
3. Create a batch file or script to stop WCESMGR, import the .reg file (regedit /s = silent) and restart WCESMGR. Name it like "partnership.bat".
4. Make a copy of the .reg file, edit it to *delete* the reg info (place a minus sign inside the beginning bracket of each key/subkey name), and name it like "guest.reg".
5 Create a new batch file or script to stop WCESMGR, import the guest.reg file and restart WCESMGR. Name it like "guest.bat".
6. When you execute "guest.bat," your device's partnership is deleted, and with the "GuestOnly" key enabled and no partnership found, ActiveSync will connect it as a guest without asking. After you execute "partnership.bat," ActiveSync will be ready to recognize your device on connection and sync.
7. Now, create a batch file or script that allows you to choose which .bat to execute, so you have one thing to click to go back and forth between connection types.
As will be obvious, I'm not a programmer AT ALL. I use pskill to clobber WCESMGR, and CHOICE.EXE copied form Server 2003 to choose connection type. It could be done more elegantly...but it sure works.
Only caveat: Later changing of syncing settings might require re-export of .reg key and recreate/edit of.reg-delete file.

What is needed to be able to sync?

Hi all, i hope this is the right forum.
I have problems with ActiveSync... i dont get it, i have a HTC Touch Cruise with Windows Mobile 6, ActiveSync 4.5, Outlook 2007. Windows XP Pro (SP2) and the HTC connect, but the only thing I'm able to do is to browse the file system on the HTC, i cannot sync. The sync-action in the menus are disabled and cannot even be selected/pressed on either of the machine. Still they are connected, and i can, as i said, browse the HTC:s file system without any problems.
I have read something about "partnership" between Windows and the telephone on several forums on internet, but i have never been given the opportunity to set anything like "partnership", and following the guides to do so does not work. Also, ActiveSync says i'm connected as "Guest".
I have performed uninstall of ActiveSync and cold start on the computer along with reset of the HTC several times. I have also tried to perform the above procedure with the Anti-virus/Firewall software (F-Secure) deactivated all network traffic allowed. Still no luck.
What have i missed to be able to sync?
Regards
Margot
I gave up, installed Funambol instead, it's benefits over ActiveSync is that it actually works.
i posted a comment to this last night, but for some reason,it hasn't shown up!
basically if you right click on the active sync icon ,you can create a partnership.
But what i would do is unnstall active sync then restart the pc , then reinstall it from the download link i have provided at the bottom of this text.
Make sure also that you disconnect your phone from the pc and click start > programs > active sync
then click menu > options. If you have no partnerships in the phone then you need to do nothing. If you have partnerships then that is probably why you cannot create a new one as you can only have two partnerships on the phone.
before deleteing the partnerships ensure that you have backed up all your contacts etc in your phone as deleting any partnerships will also delete the info it is syncing to the pc i.e. contacts, appointments, tasks etc.
I would also click menu > connections and make sure that syncronise all pc's using this connection is ticked and that 'USB is displayed in the box underneath, then when that is done ,click ok.
use ppcpimbackup on your phone(not the pc) to back up all the important info so that you can restore it if anything goes wrong. Just unzip the following file then copy it to your storage card and use file explorer to open it.

Problem is that that option has never existed for me, as soon as i plug in the HTC it is always connected as "Guest" (and has always been like that from the very first time) and there has never been any possibility for me to create or delete any partnership. When i right click on the ActiveSync icon only three (3) options are available, these are "Open Microsoft ActiveSync", "Connection Settings..." and "Explore", all other options are greyed out. And option to create partnership does not exist at all, neither selectable or greyed out.
Also, i do have the correct version (4.5) of ActiveSync, i did even try the English version instead of the Swedish to rule out any impossible "possibilities" for the reason of my problems with ActiveSync.
I have written further on the subject (what procedures i have gone through in my desperate quest to get a partnership between my PC and the HTC) on this link.

No, i'm using a PC, Windows XP Pro (SP2), installed the complete Funabol server bundle and Outlook client plugin on the PC, and installed the Funambol client on the HTC TC. Set up the Server to my needs and everything that did not work with ActiveSync, now works with Funambol -- and all my base are now belong to me.
did you try the settings on the phone to see if you have the sync partnerships setup already? also did you check the sync connections were set to allow all pc connections to usb? I know you have it sorted out now , but just curious with what the problem is, especially as you can connect as a guest. Is there any other software on the phone that is stopping the active sync connection. Or is the firewall on the pc blocking it?
I have just read the forum link you posted.
The reason most of the options are faded out when you try to select them on the pc and ppc is that you have the device connected when you try you need to unplug the device and then the partnership options will be enabled.
P.S. I love sweden, i worked over there for 8 months and Norway. Mainly in the north of sweden. Your beer is too expensive though

Cannot find any partnerships on the phone, not even in the registry.

This i have done. I can only do it when i'm disconnected, but i'm guessing that is normal.

Well, to be honest, the solution, using Funambo, is a last resort option (gee, i really come close to write "final solution" here. ), and i would still prefer to get it to work with ActiveSync. With Funambo, since i want to have full control over where the information goes, i have to run a pretty heavy server on my computer, and it does feels a bit overkill for just syncing Outlook with a PDA.
Anyway, i have tried to disable the firewall and Anti Virus software (F-Secure bundle) and allow all traffic, uninstalled AS, removed the AS aplication drawer, reboot, installed AS, soft reset my HTC, and connect it. It feels like i have tried everything. I even tried to do the complete reinstall process with my network cable to the FiberLAN disconnected to exclude the possibility of failure because of some security restriction reasons in AS, since i have WAN (internet) straight into my computer without a modem, switch, router or anything else in between (part from 127.0.0.1 i do not even have a local IP address, only a public WAN IP).

When the phone is disconnected, the ActiveSync window says "No partnership" and if i right click the ActiveSync-icon in the task manager only two options are available for selection ("Open Microsoft ActiveSync" and "Connection Settings...").
So, neither the PC or the phone has any partnership, still, when i connect them it immediately connects as guest and leave me no option to set up any partnership (neither disconnected or connected). Something is fishy.

*lol* Thanks! I'm no patriot or nationalist so i cannot take pride in being swedish, but i do appreciate our nature and so on... Indeed beer is expensive here, very expensive... But prize must also be put in perspective as it's a part of our still pretty successful national alcohol and drugs policy. It's a small price to pay for the sake of decent public health, and even with our high alcohol and tobacco taxes, the tax incomes from these products does not even close to cover the costs for the damage they indirectly cause.
Also, as i'm a "far left extremist", high taxes is a kind of a turn-on for me.
