CSD Line Type Problem - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom General

ok have the not for sale rom loaded, all works great except after connecting to the computer and sync'ing information when i disconnect it defaults to the csd connection instead of GPRS, needs a soft reset to get GPRS back can anyone help or suggest a reg edit for it?
Cheers

New official rom fixes this problem!

I am running the latest rom and I am still having this problem. I did not have it with the previous rom that I was using.
The only way I have found is to soft reset the atom.
Any ideas?

ok occasionally mine still reverts to the csd line error too...... but not always and ive found if u send an mms its fixed afterwards.. not sure what or why or how but on mine it is...so i have a dummy mms that goes to a myself and send it when it's playing up.... all fixed.. it must just jog its memory or something i have no idea but works for me....
Anyone else have this problem? or a solution?? must be a registry key that can force Active sync to go to GPRS not csd line...

I found an entry in the connection setting for Optus WAP. When you look at it a bit closer it is set up to connect via CSD. So I have deleted the connection settings for this and only left the Optus GPRS and MMS setting.
I have not had the problem occur since this. I imagine that this was set up via the auto configuration file that runs.
AJB

Where exactly is that i have checked all that and not found any reference to CSD Line, nor can i find the MMS settings can you tell me where you found it? Thanks

ok sorry found the setting you are talking about, wasnt in use but have added the internet settings and chosen that rather than let it auto choose or go to CSD.
Cheers

I am having a similar problem and have no idea where the settings are that let me view and change all the GPRS and WAP connection settings discussed here.
The G disappears on my phone and when I go to do something on the net it comes up and says it is trying to dial Optus Zoo - CSD instead of Optus Internet GPRS. If I turn the phone off then on or reset the device it gets the G back and all is well. If I send an MMS it sorts itself out as well.
I am sure I remember seeing the settings somewhere when I first played around but now it's as if the applet to access this stuff is missing? Or I am just forgetting where to look.
Can anyone please help? It's driving me crazy. Have a similar problem with a client's smart phone (not PDA) where he has to turn his phone off then on to get the G back.

Go to Start Settings Connections click advanced and select networks under where it says Programs that automatically connect to a provate networ should connect using ... find the setting that uses the CSD line and add the Optus GPRS setting, set it to not choose automatically but to choose the GPRS and save the settings...
you dont have to have this selected as this, but thats the only way to get to the setting and change it as far as i know, someone else may know different...
Have found tho it is an OPtus problem, i changed to Vodaphone in the last week and have no such problem..
Cheers

This is set correctly to Optus GPRS Internet Settings, there is no way to make it select automatically. No mention of CSD in there at all but there is an option for Optus ZOO WAP.
I don't have the choice of moving so need to solve this. Thanks for the help, guess I need to keep looking. Will look through the registry too.

its not in the registry you need to check each option cause one of them and not necessarily the one selected for use, uses the CSD line, you need to change the one that used csd line, you keep it selected for GPRS just change the CSD one so that that setting will always use the gprs.. hard to explain on paper pm me we will sort out

Trouble with GPRS connections on EXEC

hi everyone, i got my brand new xda exec today..
its a great fone and i like it very much.. but i am having some trouble with my gprs connections.. i have setup the connections as i wud on my late xda II mini.. and the connections seems working just fine wen the are connected automatically for use (like for receiving/sending mms, messenger.. etc) but as i hav a different connection for browsing the internet, because of my operater (damn operator!!!), i had to connect it manually (i did the sam on the mini too) by tapping on the G icon and choosing it from the connectivity bubble which pops up..
but wen it cam to the exec, it doesnt show any connections there, eventhough i already had the two connections from my operator.. it just says, "to connect to either the internet or work, set up a new connection in settings" .. as if i had no connections made..
why doesnt it shows the two connections like it used to show up in my mini :?: i feel its a problem with my fone / OS.. is this how it is in windows mobile 5 :?: if so, is there anyway i can show my connections there in the bubble which pops up wen i tap the G icon :?: any help wud b appreciated.. thanx in advanced..
wont anybody say anything?
still nobody?!? i'm sure there wud b ppl, hu can help me here.. or ppl hu've got the sam problem.. wont anybody just say anything???
I have the exact same problem! A bit stupid how nobody will answer!?? At least tell us if your own one works fine, people!?
I have a feeling that it is a problem with our phones, as I upgraded the ROM to a Qtek and Imate rom but still had same problem. Mine is an Orange SPV M5000 btw.
Hope somebody will take some notice....
cya
No I'm afraid I don't have that either unlike on my BA which did list the connections and a connect to... button.
Perhaps someone (or even I) could write a little program that pops up a list of connections and allows you to connect them.
But why would you want to do this. I too have a different mms and internet connection - just set one to be the default for internet and work (under connections control panel) and tell the mms program to dial the mms connection. Works for me on orange. Do you really need two different cellular connections AND an mms connection?
Pete
Because I want to use GPRS, MMS, and my own VPN Connection..... a bit annoying. Oh well
@appu, you know the bubble you get when you click on the "G" allows you to access a WiFi connection and that is why you get a query about internet/work. Are you saying your SIM has two phone lines, one for calls and one for data? If that is the case I have not seen any one mention this situation before. Would you need to switch off youe device and select the second line?
No No No. You didn't quite understand what I was saying. On my Alpine, when I tap on that bubble I get a connection menu for Wifi, My ISP connection, and my Work Connection. On the Universal, the last two do not appear... I was just wanting to find out if that is the case on EVERY Universal.
No two line business etc!? Don't know where that came from?!
Cya
@moghisi101, you can change the selection of the GPRS/3G connection from start>settings>connections>connections and select "manage existing connections"
Same on the JasJar and XDA Exec
Yes I know, but that seems much more 'involved' compared to what it is supposed to do; show them in that bubble. I think it may be a glitch in WM5. Would be interesting to see if people that have Wizards have same problem.
Cya
all wm5 have this issue.
it is known, there is no fix, and nothing that can be done at this point except follow the directions as indicated.

Normal for gprs to connect when already connected to wifi???

This doesnt seem normal to me as i dont remember this happening when i first got my 8125. When i go to internet explorer after i turn on wifi and connect to my home network it starts loading the page and then the connecting to gprs dialog box shows up. It still seems like it is using wifi but when i click on the wifi signal the gprs time meter is counting up. It seems to me like it shouldnt try to connect to gprs if the wifi signal is already picked up and connected. I thought i remembered reading about this somewhere but ive read so many topics in different places that i cant find it. Is this normal or should i do something to fix it? Thanks in advance.
Ty
anyone?
i just did this last night ..hopefully i rememebr the steps
but what you essentially have to do is remove the connection to the GPRS network and then itll stop connectinig to GPRS brb with an edit ill have to retrace my steps
*EDIT*
ok i think this is how i did it
tap start --settings -- connections tab -- then tap on connections and then make sure that there are no connections for GPRS i know its a little vague but i really forgot how i did it..
can't say that that helped me to much, sorry. I dont want to eliminate the gprs all together, i just dont want it to connect when im using wifi. Please help!
even with wifi on when it goes to sleep it will be the gprs that kicks in - pain in the butt
im just looking for a fix for this. Unfortunately my work doesnt have wifi so i cant test some things ive read here to see if it still does it. I have tried going into connections-network adapters- and selecting "the internet". Also, when i go to settings--connections--connections-advanced should i have media net, my isp, or my work selected? not sure if this has anything to do with my problem but i just want to make sure. Also, when i am connected to wifi and my gprs timer is also going, which is it using? I have an unlimited data plan so its not the biggest deal if its running but i just want to make sure im using wifi, not gprs.
RegistryWizard?
Are you using the program called "registry wizard"? I know one of the tweaks/registry edits is called GPRS always on. It might be the cause if one of the registry settings is telling the OS to always have a GPRS connection regardless of whether or not there is a WiFi connection or a program is requesting internet data...

You will select either 'My work network' or 'My ISP' depending on which rom you're using. If MEdia Net is selected, it will use GPRS. To tell whether or not it will use GPRS on any of these settings, you hit the 'edit' button. Don't change anything, but check it out, and it will tell you whether it will connect to GPRS if anything is in there. For me, 'My ISP' has 'auto pick' which means if it finds wifi or wifi is enabled, it will use that first, if not then use GPRS. If you have a stock rom, 'My ISP' may not have anything in it, therefore it will use wifi, or nothing. Remember to associate any wireless router you have to either your 'work' or 'internet' profiles.
awsome, looks like that worked. One question though....am i affected in any way by not having it set to media net? Will my edge and everything still work the same if i leave it on my isp? Thanks for the help
Ty
EDIT: It works better than it did but every so often it trys to connect to edge but it usually doesnt unless im inactive for a bit online. Is this supposed to happen?
I now leave my setting set to ISP instead of MediaNet and at first it is just connected to wifi but then as soon as it is done loading a page gprs tries to connect again so i have to hit cancel like 6 or 7 times to stop gprs from connecting. After that it doesnt try to connect but i wish i could avoid this because its a pain when im just trying to find something real fast. I just downloaded opera today and only tried a few pages on my wifi network and from the couple minutes i used it i dont think it ever tried to connect to the gprs while i was using wifi. i will have to test this a little bit more to confirm but is there any way its IE that could be causing the gprs to try and connect even though it has a full wifi signal?

Problem with data connection- Touch it 4.4

Hey guys i recently put touch it 4.4 on my wing and its pretty cool so far, but since i installed it im no longer to acess my Tmobile data connection. which of course means no internet or IMs!
Can anyone help me out i searched around a bit but cant find exactly how to change the settings to get things working again.
so if anyone could-
1) tell me where and which settings i need to edit
and
2) what the the tmobile settings i put into there
thanks for anyone who can help me
also: data connection under my comm manager is greyed out
There is a network wizard cab floating around here. Install that on your phone and select your service provider. Other than that you can create a GPRS connection. Go to settings, connections, add new connection. Name it whatever, DATA works, and accesspoint name is wap.voicestream.com through Cellular GPRS.
Look around, there is alot on this..
awesome thanks for the reply
had it preinstalled with the touch it rom actually, so all is now good!

HTC HD2 Data Connection Problems?

Hey all, just registered on this forum (heard a lot about it )
My main problem with this phone is, my data connections are seriously messed. I mean, the phone is brilliant no doubt about it but this darn internet problems are getting me more and more frustrated. Basically, my internet was working fine without Wi-Fi, Twitter updated would come smooth, YouTube videos took a couple of seconds to buffer, Opera was fast etc. etc.
Now here's the problem, I am not sure if this is connected to the Wi-Fi or not, but the FIRST ever time I used my Wi-Fi, after I came off the problems started. Now YouTube videos take minutes to buffer (a 10 second vid took 2 mins yesterday), Twitter takes forever to update and Opera, well let's just say Google takes so long to load I have to close the browser. Are there any fixes and has anyone else been experiencing this problem? At one point it got so bad I could not take ANY phone calls or texts. Vodafone has assured me it is not a fault on their behalf as their signal should be super strong in my area so what is the problem? I hope someone can help me as it is really frustrating!
Thanks
Anyone have any ideas as to what is the problem?
It seems not many are viewing this
Sorry if I have frustrated any of you or this is quite a popular topic, I just haven't found any topics of the sort yet. If anyone could care to guide me to such a topic would be appreciated...thanks.
My suggestion: simplify and diagnose. Do a hard reset, set up your 3G connection (don't set up Wifi just yet), and make sure that works OK. If not, then it's probably your provider's fault. If 3G's OK, try adding Wifi.
Bro, I assure you I've done around 5 hard reset (even forgot to back up one time )
Resets don't seem to work, I've checked around on a few of the major networks forums and a few others are having this problem. Could it possibly be that it is the phone? Or have other HTC HD2 users never experienced this?

Im on Vodafone UK and havent seen this happening.
Have you checked your access point settings?
No I haven't, how would I check this?
I went on connections and it said programs using the internet should connect using "My ISP", is that the case for you Audio Oblivion?
No mine is different but that is just the title of your internet connection profile so it doesnt actually matter.
What does matter is the connection setup itself.
Go to:
Start->Settings->Menu->All Settings->Connections->Connections
Here you should see the menu page for your ISP settings.
Click on "Manage Existing Connections"
On this screen highlight the entry you have (there should be only one) and click on "edit"
the name for the connection i have set as "Contract Internet"
modem is " Cellular Line [GPRS] "
Access Point name is "internet"
User name is "web"
Password is "web"
dmain leave blank.
click on the "advanced" button
make sure that "use server-assigned IP address" i selected here and on the second (servers) tab
Click ok and finish.
Thats the manual setup but your device should also do it automatically. To force the automatic setup:
Start->settings->menu->all settings->connections-> connection setup
hope that helps!
When I'm on manage existing connection there are 3 selections. "Auto Pick", "PAYG WAP" and "Contract WAP". That may be the problem? It is using WAP instead of internet?
***Edit : This is extremely weird, when I try to create a new connection using the name "Contract Internet" it says that name already exists, but I can't choose it...wtf? Anyone care to help? I think we may have found the root of the problem

Yep... sounds like you found the issue.
For starters... are you on contract or pay as you go?
Secondly... on manage existing connections... which entry is highlighted by default... auto? payg or contract?
Well, I created that connection and that fails too
What the hell could be the problem. May I point out that this was all a sudden problem, only started occuring after I connected to a Wi-Fi network for the first ever time!
I am contract for sure, with an unlimited data plan. This is so annoying, the phone is so good but problems like this make me think it sucks, even though it may not be the phone
not sure why wifi would have caused this but it certainly does sound as if your connections are messed up... you shouldnt even be using wap.... and it sounds as if the normal contract internet settings have become hidden somehow.
anser the questions in my previous post and i can try and get this sorted for you.
ok... if you are on contract then the settings i posted previously are the correct ones.
What i would suggest you do is try the auto setup as per my previous post also.
once this is done soft reset and report back!
There is no option for auto setup for me :S
I just come to the main screen where it says
"MY ISP"
Add a new modem connection
Manage Existing Connections
"My Work Connection"
------
------
------
Any ideas as to what i should do next?

The auto setup is one step before that screen... under all settings->connections
before you hit the connections icon there should be another icon next it that says "connection setup"
Nope, unfortunately I don't find that screen. Could it be because of the new ROM? It's on the latets official ROM I downloaded, as now I notice I get the vodafone logo when load up the phone from a soft reset.

oh... it could be that Vodafone have cooked in their settings and removed the auto config in their new rom... im not sure as i dont use it. Perhaps someone else can confirm this?
Going back to my question before... when on manage existing connections screen... which entry is selected by default; autopick? PAYG? or contractWAP?
Contract WAP as far as I am aware...I guess I'll have to ring them up and talk to someone in a call centre in a third world country that are probably being paid 3p an hour.
no you dont need to do that mate...
if you setup a new connection using the settings i posted previously you will be fine.
you dont have to call it "contract Internet" you can call it whatever you want... the only thing thats matters is the settings are correct and it is selected as default.

[Q] Data connection issue (O2) on HTC Blackstone

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone have any issues with the HTC THD data connection with O2?
I'm experiencing issues recently where Opera/Weather/Email etc. will all work fine for a couple of minutes but then completely fails to find a connection. I'm on about 1 bar of HSDPA at home but have also tried to disable this in the advanced network settings and work on 3G/GPRS but experience the same issue. The only way to resolve is to terminate the data connection and re-establish or soft reset. I've done a hard reset as well for curiosity sake but no difference.
This has only happened over the last month or so - curious to know if anyone else has this issue or has a solution?

Has any experienced this at all/found a fix? Found a similar thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=456445&highlight=connection but as far as I can tell a solution was never identified.
Issue is really frustrating...!
I used to have this issue.
I used to get the same problem quite a lot and for me (at least) it was the settings in connections that are not set up correctly, and the other problem was that windows live was trying to use push mail with settings that weren't right, disabling the connection frequently.
Are you on PayG or Contract? I'll try to help.
Regards,
Tigermoto
Tiger, thanks for the response.
I'm on contract, connection was done by the auto-connection setup feature after I hard reset. Settings are currently:
Enable HSDPA/HSUPA (i've also tried 'Enable HSDPA' and 'Disable' with no improvement after soft reset).
GPRS - PAP authentication
CSD - 9600 bps (v.32), connection element non-transparent
Network type - Auto
GSM/UMTS band - Auto
I notice the problem most in Opera - I browse for like 30 seconds - 1 minute and then it can't find the page. Only way round it like I mentioned is to soft reset or disable/re-enable the data link in the Comms manager.
I can't think what's changed on my phone - I upgraded the to the latest HTC EU ROM about a year ago but don't remember it being this bad when I first upgraded.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
GW
Sorry about the delay, haven't been on properly for a couple of days.
Autosetup for o2 is woeful, but also it appears you're looking in the wrong place for settings.
Try this out
Start - Settings - Connections - connections.
At this point you can edit your settings for comparison, but i'll go the new route.
Add a new modem connection
Enter O2 GPRS in the top box
Click Cellular Line (3G/GPRS) in the bottom box
Next
Enter mobile.o2.co.uk in the box
Next
Enter Mobileweb in the top box
Enter Password in the middle box
Leave the bottom box empty
Click Finish
Now click Manage Existing connections
Click O2 GPRS to make sure it's active.
Click Okay
Now click Set up my proxy Server
Make sure BOTH checkboxes are active
Leave the box empty and click Advanced
In the secure WAP section type
193.113.200.195
Click Okay
Click okay
Click okay
Click advanced Tab
Ensure both boxes are set to your connection
Click Okay
Soft Reset.
Have a go. This should work. I'll keep my eye on the thread till you're sorted.
Hope it helps.
Regards,
Lee
Hi Lee,
Thanks for that.
Those settings were already existing in the connections menu (only difference was 'O2Web' instead of 'Mobile Web'). Interesting you mentioned a proxy address there, I would if thought this would be left blank.
Anyhoo, the issue seems to have improved over the last few days (not sure what's changed tbh!) so going to monitor and see how I get on.
Thanks again,
GW
