Aftermath of upgrading from DOPOD 900 to the new 02 EXEC ROM - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Dear All,
First of all i wish to thank everyone here for their posts. After carefully reading what you guys have been discussing, I decided to give it a try and had NO problems at all upgrading the ROM. I do have one question though, do any of you guys here have any idea on how to configure 3G and MMS for Maxis here in malaysia.
regards

Go to connection setting. Add a new modem connection, simply put in anything for name and select Cellular line for GPRS, 3G. Enter 'unet' for Access point, 'maxis' for Username and finally 'wap' for password.
To setup the MMS:-
Go to MMS, then MMS configuration. Select the servers tab. Click new then
key in Maxis for Servername, Gateway is 202.75.133.49, Port no. is 8080, Server address is http://172.16.74.100:10021/mmsc, Select the 3G connection that you just created in the upper step. Select 100K for size and finally WAP2.0. Hope this help.

Dear ziadasmat77,
Was there any particular reason why you upgrade your DOPOD 900 to the new O2 EXEC ROM? Sorry for asking this as I'm quite new to DOPOD 900.
Thanking you in advance your for kind reply.

Upgrading
I am a big fan of o2, i was very disappointed when o2 exec was not going to be released in malaysia, so now at least my device performs better and looks cool with the O2 Active

I don't think upgrading to Exec is a wise choice cause by comparing the Dopod900's rom to exec, the different is so minute, in fact it make me wonder if O2 has realized their own mistake and decides to release the original rom(this new release) instead of their problematic customized version.

Thank you for your reply. I thought it was meant for performance enhancement. In that case I'll stick to the original ROM.

Anyone having problem with their 3G, especially in Penang? I'm using Maxis3G unlimited package. Previous it worked flawlessly but since yesterday, it stop to work with a message like 'cannot locate the site' or 'cannot find the DNS'.
The funny thing is when there is only a GPRS signal, i can surf properly, but once i enter a 3G coverage zone(the icon switch to show 'U'), it stop working and prompt me the above message again.

So are there a lot of people using the dopod 900 in M'sia?
My uncle told me it was about 3888 at the last PC Fair. Don't think too many people will be buying it at that price.

Modem_man,
Im one of those suckers, Could not help it, But i also bought a QTEK 9100 for my wife from singapore, saved 400 RM when compared to DOPOD838

Honestly IHMO, Dopod 900 will get the latest and better rom faster than the rest due to that Dopod is a subsidiary of HTC and as you can see the agressiveness of HTC insisting on Dopod to monopolise Asian market and how O2 loose their market in supplying HTC product in Asia

Rm3888 during pc fair? So sad i missed that.. My hubby bought it as a Christmas present for me at Rm4050 from lowyat with 1G SD and Jabra headset.. really enjoying this great invention... just wish it could be a little bit faster.. i havent tried the tweaks yet for fear that i might mess it up.. as the saying goes, if it aint broke, dont fix it

well....the price of 3888 was without the sd and the headset.
I myself have the Qtek 9000 which I just recently purchased. Both my uncle and I were debating over whether to get the Universal or not and I was finally the one who cave in. I got the Qtek at a pretty good price too. Paid about US$880 for it.
As for the popularity, it seems that a lot of the S'poreans are going towards the route of the O2Exec with Tariffs because it's a lot cheaper than buying it in S'pore. And if Dopod knows wot's good for them, they'll make it look as cool as the O2. Love the black clamshell and blue keyboard.
Concerning the tweaks, I'm slowly beginning to start tweaking the Q to work as best as I can. And maybe even change the ROM to O2's rom at a later time.

Hi,
Could someone with an English Dopod 900 ROM please dump and post to this site?
Regards
Michael

Re: Aftermath of upgrading from DOPOD 900 to the new 02 EXEC
hi dear
can u please help me in getting faster ROM (new ROM) for my JasJar.

After my Xda II died on me, I finally took the plunge and got Dopod 900 as my brithday & Christmas prezzie. Managed to beat it down to RM3,700 w/o SD or bluetooth headset.

I've got my GPRS always on running MSN Messenger, which should also keep TCP/IP running. Lasts at least a day if it is mostly in standby and the reception is good.
Re: On the T-Mobile sites in Germany
I tried to upgrade with the MDAiii Blackberry s/w fromt-mobile.
I first got a country id error that I worked around
Then got a device data error that I again worked around ut thi sgave me error: 116 general error so I had to give up.
Need some more help on this one.
I got this from HTC directly:
"The new product with Blackberry Connect S/W will lunch to the market later. Due to contracts with our customers, we can't to disclose further information and details. As soon as product launch to market, you will find more info on that for sure."
So it looks like we need to wait!
Interesting posting. I am also VERY VERY interested in using BB for my MDAc. Are there any news regarding the "right" .exe which will run with our "Baby"? At the T-Mobile page are too much that I really don't know how to handle the right one. Maybe any User Guide available, please?
Very interesting
Very very interesting....
But I have a look at the t-mobile link and I couldn't see any mention of blackberry in that new rom - is it there?
I too eagerly await the arrival of BB connect for the Jam. I hate swapping my sim card back and forth between the JAM and Blackberry.
Any news or progress on this? I'd also like to install Blackberry Connect on my Magician.
I'm a little confused with Blackberry. I know it's concept as I used to sell it very briefly for Vodafone. If I set my Pocket Outlook to check for mail every 3 minutes and keep my GPRS on, what is the advantage of Blackberry besides saving me 2 and a half minutes of waiting for my e-mail?
the battery of blackberries last at least 10 times longer with gprs on whole day etc
BB Connect for Magician
Yes it is going to be finally out, most of the parties have already reached an agreement with RIM and Nokia would be launching BB Connect for their N9300 and N9500 later this month. From what I understand, BB connect for magician is currently undergoing testing by the telcos in Singapore.
FYI, the current BB connect that we are testing in Singapore is currently very secure as there is a global system wipe which can be sent via sms to your device to hardreset unit just in case it is lost.
o2techie, that is great news! Please keep us informed once an install is available.
Hi folks,
i found on a T-mobile Site in Austria the following Software for the magician: the long awaited blackberry connect software update
http://www.t-mobile.at//business/mobiles_arbeiten/download/bbconnect/index.html
Now I have the following question: Does this software work also for the German verison. I am unable to ask T-Mobile Germany, since I do not have an T-Mobile phone number.
Thanks for your help.
What benefit would Blackberry provide, except for the push email concept we already got through the latest Exchange server update?

The long awaited answer, at least for me is yes, Yes YES! it works!!! BUT there are a few drawbacks. Read the rest of the post before downloading the software.
Firstly the website warns very specifically to download only the German update for germany and the austrian update for austrian mdac's. otherwise the compact could break and they probably wouldn't refund.
As far as I know it only works on the t-mobile system, i have no idea about Vodafone or O²
The compact gets a new rom:
Rom Version now is 1.13.01 GER and ROM date is 08/18/05
ExtRom becomes 1.13.130.
Installing the client software is easy setting it up not quite so easy, (at least for me). The Blackberry (BB) Client software then gives the compact its own blackberry id which you have to register at www.instantemail.t-mobile.de. - Again this only works for the German T-mobile system (as its a german website).
Also don't forget to have the blackberry push service set up for you by t-mobile. I messed around with this for a week before getting it to work properly. The T-mobile support couldn't help because the software has not been released here yet.
I am so pleased that this works. I, like alot of others, have been waiting for this since the beginning of the year. Finally the Compact is the all round machine that it was meant to be.

I think people want this cos it's the only thing some other people have over us magician owners. Honestly I can't see how it would be any improvement.
What's annoying me, though, is that Vodafone Australia have stopped charging their GPRS by the kb and are now charging $1 every 5 minutes you're online! I guess this is better for all the kiddies downloading new games and stuff to their nokias but it means I can't automatically check for e-mails every 3 mins like I was.
When I rang them, they tried to sell me a blackberry handset and put me on their blackberry data+calls plan which isn't available for smart phone users. I told them to shove it cos my phone's heaps better than a blackberry and then asked them when they were bringing in the service for PDA/Smartphone users like Vodafone Germany's website has.
I swear, if I could see the girl at the other end of the phone line she would've had the most stupid, blank, glazed over look on her face! She had no idea!
there is already also an bb update on the german t-mobile site, i found it yesterday night surfing trhough the T-Mobile Site: http://www.t-mobile.de/business/blackberry/software

JASJAR or XDA EXEC?

hey guys which should i get cant decide, i dont like the name jasjar but i like the colour.
also is there a way of swapping between 3G and GPRS if i want to reguardless of whether your in a 3G area or not because i get very cheep gprs and might wanna use it even if im in a 3G area. thanks
Neckarb
I had the same dilema and went with the jas jar for several reasons.
1) no o2 commitment (they are, in my personal experince, rubbish in so many ways)
2) cool grey case.
3) imate release rom updates on a regular basis, o2 release one every four thousand years, if your lucky.
4) the jas jar was available sooner
I think you'll find that youll pay the same rate per mb regardless of whether you are using the umts (3g) or edge(2.5g/gprs) networks. you're just liable to use it up faster on umts becaue of the higher data rate! you can force it not to use umts if you want tho'.
Maybe neckarb is on one of the old BT Cellent Genie tariffs where GPRS may cost almost nothing?

that i be. and so am interested on o2 for that sole reason, the other problem im having is i wanna pay abouy £400-£500 (either sim free) or preferable including a 12month contract but cannot find the jasjar for that price even though i found the exec for it so again aaah!

Yes you can force the Universal into GSM mode under settings/phone/Band...There you select GSM instead of 'Auto' under 'Select your network'. Apparently it saves you loads of battery power too as UMTS is power hungry.

cheers for that mate, can the xda exec be reflashed with an imate rom as im a member of club imate and would love to get the rom updates.
asking for problems
From what i have read from other o2 devices with Imate roms, its is problematic.
get an universal rom first, that way if the imate rom gives your grief, the change back is less trouble.
Please post your findings, it would be interesting.
Can anyone else clarify this? I was intending to get the O2 XDA Exec, but with such a new device and new OS, it's bound to need a ROM upgrade or two. I was looking on the O2 site for ROM upgrades to any of their other XDA devices but couldn't find any which is not a good sign.
My understanding is that i-mate ROM updates will not work on the O2 XDA Exec, in which case I reckon the money saved on an Exec against a Jasjar will not be worth it.
They should be the same hardware, so you could get the slick looking XDA Exec and put the imate ROM on.
it would be great if i could, becuase i found the xda exec £150 cheeper than the jasjar but i love my imate rom updates, has anyone sucsessfully flashed the xda exec or mda pro with the imate jasjar roms?

I’ve done it, I’ve just ordered a T-Mobile MDA Vario!

I’ve done it, I’ve just ordered a T-Mobile MDA Vario, it should be here tomorrow, I cant wait!!!
I’m new to this forum and new to the world of Windows Mobile Devices, however I am far from a novice with SmartPhones.
I have been a big fan of SonyEricsson for many years and am currently looking for a new phone, but lately have lost my feel for SE and have discovered then marvel that is the Wizard!!! Wow, I’m so much going to have one of them!!!
I’ve been reading through this forum and well what can I say, what a fantastic resource, well done!
But what I really want to know is: software? I know the MDA Vario is T-Mobile branded, but what restrictions do they impose on you?
I’m a great believer that hardware developers know what they are doing and Phone Network Operators should leave the software well alone. I have read about unlocking the phone and moving Cab files etc, but what I would really want is to flash it with its “pure” software, is this possible and easy to do and how do I then set up my MMS and GPRS setting?
And am I correct in understanding what I’ve read, that, an out the box MDA Vario wont run ActiveSync?
Thanks in advance
Nick
Nick, an excellent choice of name, and an excellent choice of device
The units ROMs all seem to be largely the same, it's the extended ROM which is different.
T-Mobile's extended ROM installs a load of customisations such as wallpapers, GPRS settings, etc... Nothing seems to hinder you particularly badly , however if you don't want it, hard reset then do a soft reset before it installs the customisations. You then have a virgin machine
The only lock is a simlock, which means that you have to use a T-Mobile SIM with the device. Lokiwiz, a free unlocker, gets around this nicely with thanks to Machinagod, and all those whose work he improved
Oh, and activesync works fine with it, providing you haven't got any weird firewalls running
Welcome to the world of windows mobile
I have had my Vario for about a week and a half now.
If you used the P910 like I did, you will miss the jog wheel utility desperately. A brilliant device that was only let down by the lack of symbian (UIQ) development (it's harder to program.
I used to have a compaq 2210 and ran Pocketinformant. I've just reloaded it on my unit. It's brilliant, you give up a lot for the jog wheel but you welcome back the world of 'drag and drop' and 'double tap'.
If you use a PIM then Pocketinformant cannot be beaten.
Incidently make sure you load activesync 4.1 on your pc, providing you set your catergories in your outlook master list to the same as your device, syncing is superb.
good luck
I've just switched to Vodafone with an expansys contrct deal after four years with T-Mobile. They (T-Mobile) told me six weeks ago, they'd no idea what a Vario was, and had no information that they were going to get them even though Germany had announced them to the press. Expansys had the 9100 on Voda so off I went. The Vodafone "data" bundle which is SMS or MMS or GPRS out of the same pot is better for me than T-Mobile who would only offer web'n'walk *and* a separate SMS/MMS bundle :-(
Vodafone have been fine, but the SMS voicemail alerts that don't activate the little "tape" message waiting icon really annoys me... ;-)
Dox..
I have also gone from a P900 to XDA mini. Its a bit of a transition and can agree - the wheel on the P900 was a luxury I do miss but there are alot moe benefits
Now - just need to try and work out if I can change the whole ROM from the O2 one
Scott
Thanks for all the info fellas, cant wait for it to be delivered…
Excuse my ignorance, but, the ROM, is that the basic OS and the extender ROM is just the individual network customizations?
I will almost certainly, as a matter of principle, do the SIM unlock, but what is the purpose of the CID unlock?
And, if I do the Hard reset Soft reset trick how will I set up my GPRS and MMS?
Sorry about all the questions, but I’m very inquisitive.
Hopefully this will also be helping fellow novices.
Thanks again everyone.
You can enter the settings manually, which if you have them in front of you is fairly simple. If you need to know what they are (I've entered Vodafone's so often for people at work I can do them in my sleep, but don't know the T-Mobile ones), google is your friend. To simplify the whole thing, Raphael over at BeyondTheTech has the cab file with the settings in here for you to download and install as normal.
If you're not going to let the rest of the extended ROM install, put this on a memory card in case you want to run it again after a hard reset..
Dox.
I too like to have a fiddle (I had an original O2 XDA and this site was fantastic for upgrading to later version OS) but so far I can't see any compelling reason not to use the T-Mobile UK custo ROM as shipped.
The only addition I've made is MS Voice with the associated Reg change to allow use with BT headset.
Obviously if there is a superior ROM out there please let us know what is recommended?
Thanks
Nick, check out the wiki which has loads of info about roms, extended roms, radio roms and all that good stuff. Not a huge amount is specific to the Wizard yet, but the information applies all the same.
Has it arrived yet, or are you sitting by the front door like an eager puppy waiting for the postman or newspaper boy (or girl, thank you Stan)
Unfortunately I’m at work today and they would only deliver to my home address
AND they need a signature, so first thing tomorrow morning I’ll be stud outside my local Postal Depot waiting for it to open…..
Oh I hate waiting!!!
Welcome to Vario-ness !
Not coming from a previous PPC platform, you won't suffer the same way i did, by installing all the apps i used on my MDA Compadt some of which may not have been compatable with WM5. That ended up with me having a poor view on the Vario.
Fear not though, i've since seen the error of my ways, thanks to the fine folks on this forum...
I have an XDA II, and would like to update if there is a significant improvement.
I have read from the t-mobile site that the Vario does not have vibrate or voice dialling. Is this true, can Fonix be installed?
The most vital things I use are the outlook contacts, calender, isilo reader and avant go. I guess all standard apps that work on windows mobile 2003 work on 5 right?
How big is the screen?
Thanks for any help.
Well, that just goes to show that T-Mobile don't have a clue, really, doesn't it? I thought you must be mistaken, but sure enough it says that it doesn't support voice dial, and doesn't vibrate either.
It does. On both counts. The vibrate is a lot better than the xda2s in that it almost dislocates a hip when it goes off, and voice dialing works very well. With a quick registry hack, voice dialing works with bluetooth headsets too
Some have found the vario sluggish in comparison to the xda 2; i find it to be comparable to the blue angel (2s) that I had running wm2005 - bear in mind you're reading/writing all files from flash rather than RAM, and that explains the performance.
The screen is 2.8 inches diagonal.
Have any of you got vibrate working on M3000 (Orange)?
I have an M3000 from Orange Switzerland, and cannot get my vibrate to work at all.
Not to get 'off topic' but T-Mobile Czech republic were about to sell me a MDA Vario and at the last moment I noticed a sticker on the box saying it doesn't support character recognizer or transcriber .. anyone know if this FOR ME huge negative can be reversed so I can handwrite sms as MDA II let me .. Both work fine for me on a UK MDA Vario, I don't know why the czech would be different. I must say however that I rarely use them because the slide out keyboard is SO sweet.
On a side note, my brother just picked up the same phone on O2 and personally I like the O2 customisations a lot better than the T-mobile ones. Especially the multiple today screen functionality.
Is it possible to install O2 extended rom and keep t-mobile comms settings? I've only just started to look into this so does anyone with any experience with this have any tips?
Thanks

NEW O2 EXEC-WHAT WOULD U DO?

hi all,
i have just bought a new O2 Exec.. I was wondering what software/tweaks you guys recommend.
Regards,
frz
i also just have my dopod 900, similar to o2 exec and i still dont know what to install. I saw something about AKU2 or AKU3 on the forum but dont know where to download, can someone please advice/help us as my device was sometimes cannot received data signal while connecting to internet.
I just download TCPMP player to the device and it was a great staff to play with and I will not use the WMP for movie/tv.
Guys, I've just bought myself a new suit.
Would you like to come over and try it on for me?
Come on - a little work on your side will be necessary, and searching is the best way to show that you've tried.
Have a read through this thread for guidelines on using the board:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4534
And then have a look here for a starter:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32698&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
AKU stuff - get started slowly before you start modifying the OS too much, as a lot of the stuff on the board can make your system unstable if used incorrectly. Configure your basics, get yourself some good backup software, and then check out the wiki and the ftp.
Most of the newer roms will have some AKU support already in, I think.

Just out of curiosity....how much is internet connectivity in M'sia?
I'm planning on coming home during the CNY and would like to use the service if it's not too expensive.
Would you mind posting the cost of the internet connection and who the provider is?
Will it be available prepaid?
Thanks.
Fellow M'sian in US.
To vijay555,
Thanks a lot but i cant do downdoading now cause i am on GPRS connection now. But i will visit your site when i got back home.
To Moden man,
The cost for GPRS connection will be 1 cent for 1kb. You can only use 3G in KL area. You can access by using DiGi, Celcom and Maxis as your service provider.

O2 MMS Problem (Fix)

I have recently unlocked my Prophet and am using it on O2. I spent ages getting the GPRS and MMS settings to work (have now re-flashed WM5 NVID ROM because I had too many problems with WM6).
When I finally got the MMS settings working, I found that photos sent to the device were reduced to 78x160 pixels and a very poor colour depth. Initially I thought it could have been my Hermes that I was sending it from, but then I read that O2 will 'determine your device capabilities' when delivering MMS. This made me think that it was a problem with O2 not recognising the phone and delivering MMS in 'safe' format.
After poking around at the O2 extended ROM for the XDA Mini S, I have found a fix.
There are 2 registry values that you need to change:-
1) HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\WspHeader\Profile
Code:
http://www.htcmms.com.tw/gen/wizard-1.0.xml
(the actual text, not the contents of the page - for some reason the forum won't let me remove the link lol)
2) HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\WspHeader\User-Agent
Code:
Xda Mini S/arcsoft-mmsua-3.0.0.xx
This fools the O2 server into thinking your phone is an XDA Mini S (which is not much of a lie). You will now get MMS in full size and full colour (providing you've got your connection and MMS service working).
Hope this helps someone because it took me ages to find the problem
Brilliant, been searching around for a fix for months. Have since moved on to unlocked SPV M700 and exactly the same problem (with O2 MMS).
genius m8, have just changed setting on M700 and hey presto full size mms!
glad it helped - i was searching for ages too (well seemed like ages, was 5 hours lol)

I think I have got the correct mms settings but I think its the connection thats causing me the probs. Today I managed to "send"the messages and o2 took the money off my account but the messages only went to the outbox not the sent box.
Cheers for your help so far. o2 says muy card is set up for pic msg but I am getting mighty fed up with the whole thing!!!! : (
well done sir, going to change the settings on my Herald now!
Does anyone know the reg fix to enable you to add/remove mms settings?
@ burnes
thanks for this reg tweak. Been looking for something like this for ages.
Works a treat on my TyTN II.
Thanks again
k-c
In relation to my problem:
In your registry goto:
HKLM/SOFTWARE/Arcsoft/ArcSoft MMS AU/Config/UI
There you will find a key called "EnableServerEdit" set it to 1 and you will be able to edit the server settings.

Hiya Burnes,
Its the original orange rom but I unlocked it with lokiwiz and I can use my payg O2 sim as phone and sms . I haven't got round to trying a new rom yet coz there are so many and I'm confused about the hard/soft spl stuff and worried about bricking it!!!! . My M600 is G4 and the start up settings are as follows
IPL 2.10.0001
SPL 2.10.0001
GSM 02.07.20
OS 2.10.1.22
WIN MOB 5
OS 5.1.195

I'm really not sure about the connections. Took me ages to get the connections working, but I didn't figure out what it is that I changed. What I can tell you is:
Network Wizard wouldn't save the settings
Manual settings (from FileSaveAs) connected and MMS got to 99% but no further
I messed about with so many settings that I really can't remember how I got it working. Sorry I can't help more, but have a look at FileSaveAs, just search for 'O2 MMS GPRS Settings' on Google.
Hiya Burnes, thanks for lookin for the settings for me . I know exactly what you mean. There are so many variables and I did exact same thing. Finally got round to emailing o2 3 times with no reply, phoning them twice and gave up. Got an orange payg sim, registered it within 2 hours , put money on it. got the settings from orange website and sent mms no probs. Also can access internet too, so after about 10 years I left o2 and my number changes over later this week !!!!! Im free at last!!!
PS , I also managed to hard spl the SPV M600 and have upgraded with Cloudyfa's wonderful WM6.1 Shadow rom. It seems to be very stable, battery normal my sony DR-BT20NX bluetooth stereo headphones work fine with media player and tcpmp what more could I want ?
Well I will be putting my settings for O2 on my WM Wiki site this week. As it's only a sideline at the moment, I haven't had much time. I will post a message here when I have figured aout the correct settings.
Glad you got it working in the end!
Hi Guys,
i reliase that is an xda forum and covers xda topics but i am experiencing the exact same problem on a Samsung D880. this phone is not supported or avialable in the UK. i have only had it two days and thought it was faulty! i have played with all sorts of settings but no joy. i have checked all the mms settings. Is there anyway i can fool the 02 network into thinking this is a differnt Samsung model??
Cheers
teb
Samsung devices are not Windows Mobile based. I wouldn't have thought that there is a way, but I doubt anyone here has one to look at never mind knowing enough about them to do it.
Try finding a website that specialises in Samsung phones.

i realise that and like you say its not going to be as doing it on a windows based phone. Cant seem to find a Samsung specialist website.
Silly question but can those that experienced this problem on O2 before the fix did you try picture messsaging using T-mobile, Orange or Vodafone? Did you have the same problems with these networks.?
Problem exists on o2 Uk only - I set up an spv m600 for a neighbour on voda and tested the mms settings, picture received full size whereas my wifes on o2 always tiny pictures until this reg hack applied have used this hack on my wifes new spv m700 (Trinity) running latest WM6.1 MARY Rom and it works on that too.

Cheers! i just confirmed this my sending an mms to the phone with a T-mobole PAYG sim. Its only a problem with O2. Tried to speak to someone at O2 but was a complete waste of time and they said it was a problem with my phone being a non uk model!twats! not as good as what Samsung told me. He said that Samsung phones can only support picture messages sent to other Samsung phones and and not other manufacturers phones. I told the guy to stop being stupid and put me through to the technical department. His reply - I do work in the technical dept sir! scary!
