SX 56 Upgrade can be used for QTEK 1010????? - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Please help if SX 56 Siemens Upgarde can be used for Qtek 1010.I need to upgarde my Qtek 1010 to WM 2003
Thanks

yes the rom of one Wallaby can be used on any Wallaby device
but make sure you dont upgrade the radeio stack unless you use
the same gsm network that the radiostack from SX 56
which i'm pretty sure is 900/1900
if you dont use that gsm network you have to change
the exe file to zip and copy the nbf fil inside it out and update it
using xdatools
if you just use the selfflash exe then you'll end up with a xda which only work on the US gsm network

SX56 WM2003 update aupgrades the radio stack automatically, so you may not get an option to forego radiostack upgrade

well not sure about the 56 Siemens upgrade
but with the tmobile upgrade i just renamed the extention
to zip and extracted the nbf file as i would have from any other
zip file
it were no problem at all
of cause i dont have a clue about how siemens handled their upgrade

Taimur,
I did it for my Qtek 1010 (I live in the UAE). You are right, if you run the application SX56 Upgrade it will try to upgrade both RSU and RUU. I didn't want to upgrade Radio Stack. I used WinZip and extracted NK.NBF file, used Jeff's XDATOOLS (available somewhere on this forum) and transferred it to the SD Card. Then safely used Bootloader method to flash the ROM.
I am very very satisfied with the SX56 wm2003 upgrade. Except for the multiple reset bug, I have not come across any other problem, and I don't need to reset the device often. It's quite stable. It is the upgrade that I have stuck with for the longest
By the way, using Activesync method to flash ROM is very dangerous (Thanks to Windows), and I almost killed my Qtek while attempting it once! Thankfully with the help from ntabikha I managed to salvage it and never since used activesync to flash Rom.

HELP!!! VERY URGENT

hi,
I've XDA I with RUU tmobile 4.0.1and RSU 4.21
I'm trying to return to original o2 rom
I've cooked from rom kitchen t-mobile 2003 ruu rom
When I launch exe file the pc give me this error:
"ERROR: GetDeviceData - An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.
error getting devicedata"
and then
"ERROR 011: EXECUTE REMOTE COMMUNICATION PROGRAM ERROR. Cannot execute the remote communication program. Please make sure that the USB/Serial cable is properly connected."
I've try to put nb1 file on sd card with image tool but my device has bootloader 5.17 and it doesn't work!
As I've installed t-mobile 4.01, the phone part of the device doesn't work (I've accidentaly swith to 1900, my sim card support only 900/1800 and here in italy there's no 1900 net)
Anyone knows other methods to load ruu from sd or can help me to resolve activesync error?
So whats the reason for you wanting to downgrade, is it because your radio is no longer working?
If thats the case you just need to up/downgrade your radio stack, on
that note I suggest you upgrade to the Qtek 1010 Radio Stack.
The Qtek 1010 Radio Stack Upgrade can be found at:
http://www.carrierdevices.com.au/downloads/asiapacific.htm
Download Radio Upgrade File : RSUv1.15_(GPRS_T32500_ENG).exe
Note: Last time I checked the the above file came with both the ROM and Radio upgrade, so just use the one for the radio.
HTH
I had the same problems you did, without wanting to steal anyone's thunder, my thread here : http://xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3860 deals with those issues and points you to the threads where easy answers can be found. I also operate off 900/1800 and have the info in that thread on how to change back from 900/1900 to 900/1800. Let us know if there's anything there that gets you stumped.
Don't play with RUU unless someone who knows what they're really talking about advises that you should for good reason.

How do I upgrade from Special Edition ROM v1.2 to PPC2003?

Hi,
I installed XDA-developers Special Edition ROM v1.2 to unlock my SX56, but I really need PPC2003 on my device.
How do I go about installing the new PPC2003 Rom? Will my device still unlocked if I do this?
Thanks for your help,
Therese

Re: I tried to run the instsall from Siemens and got an erro
the only way is to extract the nbf from the upgrade package and use sd-flash upgrade method. the original at&r siemens installer will always verify your xda rom b4 proceeding. another way would be flash back to at&t ppc2003 rom and the installer will work.

thats my question, anyone have some clues for a not-so savvy person to go from xda's rom to wm2003?
Thanks
hope this will help:
1. cook any wm2003 ROM from the kitchen at www.yorch.net and select the .nbf file type and download the resulted file which should be of 32 MB in size.
2. insert a 64 MB or higher SD card in your xda and use the OSImage tool in the XDAtools application to move this file to the SD card using the PC and the cradle.
3. go to the bootloader screen (power + soft reset). the xda will recognize the card content and it will be flashed.
4. do hard reset and you should get a new wm 2003 ROM by now
good luck
try this upgrade procedure
I got the same error ERROR 012: CHECK ERROR when running the PPC2003 upgrade from Siemens. So here what I did to get around this.
1. Download and install XDATools-Jeff. http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDAtools-Jeff.exe
2. To upgrade the ROM to A.30.09 ENG:
a. When install the upgrade package from Siemens, the install process created a folder named SX56 upgrade utility in your PC's Program Files folder.
b. You will find the ROM image in file NK.NBF in this path C:\Program Files\SX56 upgrade utility\english\NK.NBF
c. Use the OSImageTool from the XDAtools installed in step 1.
d. Specify Source: C:\Program Files\SX56 upgrade utility\english\NK.NBF
e. You will have 2 options for the Destination. The safest option will be download the image to the SD Memory Card, then install from the card. Or you can download the image directly to the XDA's internal ROM.
f. Folow the instruction on the screens. Should take about 5 minutes to download the image.
g. Cold boot after install is completed. Check your ROM version to make sure it is A.30.09 ENG
Note that the above procedure will only upgrade the ROM and not the Radio Stack. If you want to upgrade the Radio Stack, here is the procedure:
3. Upgrade to Radio Stack version A.33.02:
a. In the folder C:\Program Files\SX56 upgrade utility\english, you will find the following 4 files:
monitor_ul_bs.m0
monitor_ul_bs.map
RSUpgrade.cp64
RSUpgrade.exe
b. Use ActiveSync to copy these 4 files to your Pocket_PC's Windows directory.
c. You will then run the RSUpgrade on your Pocket PC. This will install the RS upgrade. Use the File Explorer to locate the RSUpgrade.exe and then click on this object to execute.
d. When the upgrade is completed, cold boot, then check for the Radio Version to make sure it is A.33.02.
Good luck and hope this help!
di we have to upgrade to the n radio lavel ?
I have an unlocked [email protected] Sx56 that i got form rogers.com an AT&T canada company... I personally use the unit with a Fido (microcell) plan
i did upgrade it using the instructions you posted here and it was a success...
Do i have to upgrade to the latest Radio level... now iam at A.20.10 or i would lose my GSM capabily as they say here at the forum..
thanks in advance
Ps. I noticed that my sesitivity bar grapg is allways at bar one i used to have 2 to 3 bars or is just the new graphices for ppc2003.
Thanks for the mini guide. I do have a n00b question though. What is the purpose of upgrading the Radio Stack?
Also, I'm here in the US with a T-Mobile PPC phone which I am selling (just didn't get that much use out of it). As incentive to buyers, I offered to unlock it, originally thinking that I could just use the XDAunlock.exe to do it, but it turns out the phone is a 3.14.40, I have no serial cable (only the usb cradle), and no SD card (though it would hurt to pick up one).
So is it still possible for me to unlock this phone, I guess using the XDA Special Edition ROM, without having a SD card? From reading some stuff on here, I think that's right, but if I ever need to go back to the original ROM, or upgrade to one of the WM2003 ROM, I need an SD card to use with the XDAtools?
If anyone can PM me with some general info on this stuff I would greatly appreciate it, as I really don't have time right now to scour the forums as much as I'd like to. Basically, you can see my device info in my profile, so if you can give tips on how to unlock, backup original ROM, and what I can/cannot do without a SD card, that would be wonderful. XDAUSER's post gives a good guide on upgrading to the WM2003 so I guess that's covered. Thanks in advance for helping out a n00b.
Diggin the help!
Followed the instructions from XDAUSER...works great! Thank you!
Acutally, I performed the proceedure using the Seimens 2002 update first. When I reset the device, it booted up fine...it didn't update the radio stack during the install, however.... I reset the device, it came up and created an active sync - then just ran the 2003 update utility. Worked GREAT, and updated the radio stack automagically.
p.s. I don't have a memory card, so just did it right to the device! (I was chewing my nails!)
I really appreciate this site, and the users who give great advice...
Thanks again!
Re: try this upgrade procedure
XDAUser, when I cold booted, my ROM version said 30.05 - is that ok?
How do I look at my radio stack version? Can I only see that when I cold boot?
Thanks for all your help!

Upgrading Radio Stack
I'm new to the Pocket PC Phone device so not quite sure what all the enhancements goes into RS A.33.02. I heard that there is some GPRS enhancements for continous data connection. This is great if you use the XDA for data such as internet access. So far, I cannot find any official documentation from neither Siemens nor AT&T about this new RS???
My RS was at version A.20.10 and it was working fine with Cingular SIM while roaming on other networks such as T-Mobile or ATT. But as soon as I'm returning to the local service area, I got no signal on my XDA. I guess it is because I'm in a small town and their cellular network has not yet been upgraded. I contacted Cingular Technical Support but they refused to help me since I don't use their equipment. This is kindda sad because I'm working in this small town 80% of my time.
I then try to upgrade RS to the newest version A.33.02 from Siemens in hoping that it will fix the problem, but still no signal. I read somewhere in this forum that I should try to upgrad to T-Mobile RS, but when I try to download the T-Mobile upgrade file from Yorch.net, I cannot unzip the file because of its password protection. I tried to download the RS upgrade directly from T-Mobile, but I need to have a valid T-Mobile phone number (which I don't have) in order to download.
So for now, I have to use a Cingular cell phone while I'm in this small town and carry both a cell phone and my XDA. When I'm travelling outside of this local service area (roaming), I switch the SIM card. It such a pain and I hope I don't wear out the SIM card from switching it back/forth.
If the current RS is working for you, then don't upgrade it. Unless you know the new RS will give you the functionality that you will need. If you decided to upgrade, make sure you save a copy of the previous RS version in case you need to go back. Use the RS upgrade procedure as a guide.
Good Luck.
Re: Upgrading Radio Stack
I have Cingular and can't get their SIM card to work in my device - how did you do that? I was going to go out and get a T Mobile SIM instead but if I can get the Cingular to work, I won't.
Is it the radio stack version that makes using the Cingular SIM possible? If so, that is the radio stack I need to get.
Can you help me with getting that one?
TY!!!

quick side question: where can I find the T-mobie final beta of WM2003? Did a search of the forum and can't find any info.
Also, if I use the Siemens WM2003 upgrade, then is there info I have to enter in by hand to get the phone to continue to connect to the T-mobile network? Would it just be the same values that were programmed in my phone prior to upgrading? Thx.

If you downloaded and install the upgrade from Siemens, then you should get the ROM A.30.09 ENG image. I downloaded the english version here:
http://www.my-siemens.com/MySiemens...D%2FHD%2FSX56POCKETPCPHONE%2Fdanda%2F,00.html
To check your current ROM/RS version:
Start>Settings, select System tab, click Device Information.
Re: try this upgrade procedure
Ok here is what I have in my system settings:
ROM version A.30.05 ENG
ROM date 11/17/03
Radio version 6.12
Protocol Version 324e4
I didn't get version 30.09 when I installed from this link below, I got the 30.05.
What is the radio stack you are on that allows you to use Cingular? Do you know how I can upgrade to that radio stack?

Re: try this upgrade procedure
I don't understand why your current ROM is not at A.30.09. Did you try to run any others ROM upgrade beside the one from Siemens? My thinking is that if you run another ROM upgrade, the file NK.NBF may got replaced. Did you try manual upgrade procedure immediately after running the Siemens' upgrade?
I knew the RS version A.20.10 will work with Cingular in roaming mode. I tried this RS version while I'm in Houston Texas, and also in Indianapolis Indiana. But when I arrived at my office in a small town 60 miles from Indianapolis, which is the Cingular local service where I got my cell phone, my XDA stopped working. I then upgrade RS to A.33.02 and still no luck.
I will be back to Houston in Feb 19, then will test the XDA with RS A.33.02.
To get the the RS A.20.10, go to www.yorch.net, click Upgrades, then select A.20.10 to download.

I'll wait on getting that new radio stack until I hear back from you about the other part
Thanks so much!!! You are great.

Can someone confirm XDAtools does not work with WM2003

I am trying to test out XDAtools and using the WM2003 AT&T rom but keep encountering problems trying to load my rom via programmeA I have had some help from others (see below) but it seems that XDAtools cannot manipulate WM2003? Can this be confirmed and if so I'll abandon this test.
Thank you Cgigate and ebswift maybe this is why I am encountering problems with my download and restore of my ROM. I inadvertently choose a WM2003 AT&T rom to practice with. Maybe I should have chosen a PPC 2002 ROM to test??
I thought I had a problem with XDAtools and that I did not have all the correct links/files in place. Maybe I should dump my ROM and try restoring a PPC2002 and then re try my test. Thanks again guys.
it worked for me
For your info, I used XDATools and Program A to burn AT&T latest ROM. I then flashed back to XDA Developer's SE ROM in order to unlock my phone. When that was done, I reflashed the AT&T ROM. All without hasle.
Did you use bootloader or ProgrammeA ?
Thanks viERJA when you say flash do you mean copied to the SD/MMC card and used the bootloader to load ??
i had 4.00.05 before and used XDAtools to upgrade to 4.01.00 without problems.
well since if you copy the rom to a sdcard and upgrade the rom using the bootloader then xdatools cant really be incopatible with mw2003 since it's the bootloader which do the updating and xdatools does the same thing to the sdcard if you are updating to 2002 or 2003 to and from 2002 and 2003
Good point Rudegar
Good point Rudegar, therefore XDAtools is not being used in the context of elimination of the SD/MMC method. John

XDA I upgrade to WM2003?

Hiya Peeps!
Ive seen various posts etc about the XDA and upgrading to WM2003. But whats the best method. Is the Siemens download good and working for this device?
I cant seem to find anything on any of the O2 sites with an "offical" o2 release.
Any guideance from those that know
Thanks!!
upgrading Siemens SX-56 to WM2003
Using the Siemens-provided upgrade program hosed my XDA and I had to send it back to Siemens to have them reflash it.
I was however able to use the OSImageTool program from this Web site to upgrade just the operating system (from my own experience and from what I've read on several sites, it's the radiostack upgrade that screws up the Siemens upgrade program).
I executed Siemens' upgrade program so that it unzipped its files into a new folder, but then I stopped the program and pointed the OSImageTool to that new folder to find the upgrade files.
best of luck -
ts
P.S. whatever you do, be sure to turn off the phone part of the XDA before beginning any kind of ROM upgrade. The first time I upgraded, my phone rang just as the process began and I ended up having to use bootloader and an SD card to get things working again!
I put the WM2003 .nbf file on my SD card and started the bootloader. But being new, what do I do after the bootloader has started? It's on screen showing Wallaby Bootloader V5.22 and at the bottom of the screen is "GSM OK." Now what? :?: Did I do something wrong?

The bootloader V5.22 seems not to recognize the .nbf files on the SD cards. You have to flash your bootloader first to make it 5.15 or 5.17 then use the SD upgrading method for a new ROM.

wallaby radio stack update

I have a sx56 and I recently updated the rom to 2003 via the kitchen. I now would like to update my radio stack. I don't have an active sync cable so i need to do it through my sd card. Is this possible? Can someone tell me the best RS to use. I also need directions on how to go about downloading and installing the new radio stack. Also is there any way to upgrade to 2003se without active sync. My phone info is as follows:
unlocked AT&T sx 56 used on t-mobile
pw10b1
ROM 4.01.16 ENG
Radio version A.33.02
protocal version 1.3.3
thanks
Why do you want to upgrade your RadioStack? If it´s all working, i would stay....
Anyway, on the FTP are some RadioStacks, that are designed to run directly on your device.
# Extract the downloaded ZIP-File and copy all files to the /Windows directory of your device.
# Copy the RSUpgrade.exe additional to the /windows/startup directory.
# Make an soft reset of your device.
Without ActiveSync, there is no possibility to upgrade to WM2003SE....
Stefan
Thanks for the quick reply. I don't get great signal strength on my phone and figured a new radiostack might help. But before I take chances upgrading, will a new radiostack help with signal strength?
It may help, but it must not.
You have to choose one of the 6.xx Radio Stacks.
If the upgrade fails, your phone might end as paper weight. That's the risc you have to handle with....
Stefan
DON'T TRY TO UPGRADE RADIO STACKS!!! DANGEROUS!!!
Guys, don't even think of it. Today I killed my wallaby. I had a radio 6.24.00 and I wasn't glad because of poor signal strength in places where other phones work great. I downloaded from xda ftp a radio stack upgrade soft to a version 6.25. Followed the instructions and started the procedure. On 60% it said do try again. I tryed and second time it stopped the procedure of upgrade at the very beginning. So, my phone doesn't work any more. I dont know what is that soft for if it kills the wallby phones. I wish I didn't do that.
