XDA II in UK - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I am going to London for a few days and want to buy XDA II. I have spoken with a shop in London and they said that they have it in stock and start selling on 1 November. I need a piece of advice from those who live in UK. I was told that the phone will be sold with a contract only.
1. In order to buy a contracted phone, do I need only ID and credit card or I need a permanent address in the UK as well?
2. What is O2 policy on early contract termination? I could not find anything on their site.
3. If I pay cash and leave the country does it mean that I am not paying early contract termination fee since they do not have my credit card number and I am not the UK resident?
4. Any ideas how to buy XDA II in the UK at minimum price in my situation?
Many thanks.

I bought the XDA online.... (original)
When I went to register it with O2 they checked through the deal I did with the link....
If I had not confirmed the registration when I purchased the device I would have been billed the full amount after a certain time.
If you buy a phone they will run a credit check including where you worked last....
If you terminate early I know many people that have been billed the full price.
sorry but it appears you have no option here. catch 22 situation...
hope that helps.
Ian.

Sorry my English is not that good. What 22 situation means?
What if I ask a friend of mine who lives in UK to register on his name, can I pay with my own credit card or it must be his credit card? In this way I would pay the charges for early contract termination from my card. Depends how much it is à course. Anybody knows how much O2 charges for early contract termination?

catch 22 - from the film by the same name... I think
basically you do it one way... you get screwed, you do it the other... you get screwed.
If you get your friend to register it you might be able to get the registration transferred over but your friend would be putting a hell of a lot of faith in you.
The cost for early contract termination is the cost of the phone without contract plus any extra charges O2 wish to lay on you. The XDAII is what £700 without contract? (speculative price)
either way, I wouldnt like to be you or your friend when you terminate the contract early.
sorry,
Ian.

I've got an idea. I ask my friend to put XDA on his card and purchase the insurance for the phone as well, while I pay cash back to him. Then I leave the UK and he reports XDA stolen or lost and gets a brand new XDA for himself for free.
Is it very illegal in UK to do in this way?
I would prefer a more legal way to get around.

errr it would be very illegal...
like insurance fraud illegal...
if it wasn't everyone would be doing it...
please dont suggest that here again...

I had a feeling that it's illegal
But is there a legal way??? I would appreciate if somebody will give an idea how to do it legally. Somehow a lot of phones are getting out of the coutries of origin, get unlocked and sold. So there should be a way I believe.

lol how could it not be illegal i mean they have to give him 2 phones at the price of one
if it were not who would stop people from doing the same thing with cars
and figtherplanes for that matter

Yeah thats because the supplier can source the items from other dealers (like when buying MS software)
but that usually doesnt happen until the item in question has been out for a few months... with the XDAII being so new their will likely be limited availibility... so I'd imagine getting one with a contract below the RRP O2 is selling it for will be hard enough never mind buying once cheap without a contract.
the phone when released is subsidised by the operator in the hopes they can make up development costs with the contract. They may begin to release phones to other parties after this time but they wont so close after the release date.
Ian.
P.S hence why that XDAII on ebay is so dodgy... where the hell did he get it from? (if he actually has it in the first place)
http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3270&highlight=ebay

There are phones available really soon after the initial release in the country of origin and sold usually in small shops (not chain mobile shops). That means that somehow the phones are purchased somewhere at low cost with a contract (operator's logo on the phone) and then shipped outside the country, get unlocked and sold. Which is probably not 100% legal scheme but if they can do in bulk means that there is more or less legal way to do it.

O2 are like pitbulls when the go after their money. I dont think they will allow early termination, so add up 13 months at the chosen tariff, put that in an account then each month it will be drawn at the monthly tariff by O2, when 12 months expire give 1 month notice and thats it. If it still seems cheap this way then good luck. Regarding the insurance claim, the phone companies now demand a written statement from the police and the owner, they have got very upset at all the claims and investigate each claim. I dont think a phone, no matter how desirable is worth a criminal record.

What is the situation with existing O2 customers? How much existing customers pay for a new XDA II?
Let's say my friend is an existing O2 customer and he buys XDA II. Can he sell it then to me and use the old handset instead?

I need some help
Cor I wonder about some of the Posts I read here.
Can anyone help me out with the Keys and combination for the Store room at O2 head quaters.
All plans and electrical documentation along with type of cctv and alarm systems would also be helpful..
If you work there then perhaps you could leave all of the stock on the Road outside the rear door. Please post a note here to let me know this information
I assume that it would not be so bad if I just rob them directly rather than do it behind their back.
Is that Legal.?. after all I am not making some bad insurance claim.
.... Well I am laughing....

i have been offered the chance of an XDAII for £100

decisions, decisions!
Do i take them up on the offer and get a rubbish contract or do i wait and pay a huge amount.
ian
Hi ian
Seems like a very generous offer to me (who made you this offer?).
I took out a contract with O2 earlier this April. If offered similar deal i would jump to it.
I only wish that the new xda would be a lot lighter than the current model!!!! But you get an improved CPU + bluetooth. Thats enough improvement for me to be worth £100.
Cheers
xda
were you offered it by 02
regards kevin beecher
Where can we buy them? I would jump at the chance
lol £100 ?
hate to get folks hopes up but I read the MDA will be out for around $700+
XDAII for £100.... mmm more like £600
£100 XDA
I hate to reveal my sources (so i won't - but i will clarify my statement) but staff at certain retail outlets are offered contract mobiles including XDA for £100 as long as they take the contract offered. The member of part-time staff is a former student of mine (now at university) who comes to me for help and advice, and often passes on deals and useful information to me.
ian
Where is this retail outlet then. I could get a temp job and get the XDA then quit!
If you can get an XDA for that price then go for it
If you can get an XDAII for that price the GO FOR IT lol
Doesnt matter about the contract... if your getting it for £100
Remember there is nothing to stop you going for that contract and then going down to their cheapest.
Personaly I doubt it is an XDAII ( no offence)
but if it is then jump at the chance to get it for £100... just make sure its all legit
I know O2 were selling the old XDA at a discount (to staff) last year because they couldnt shift them fast enough... but I think £500 is a tad large a discount.
Good luck though,
if its genuine I'm jelous... if its not... I'll laff hehe
Was that posted 3 times or is this irish whiskey stronger than I thought?
nope only twice....
stop drinking that whiskey !
hehe j/k
whisky
hi
whats wrong with irish whiskey
Hey I never said that lol...
I dislike *real* whiskey anyways... Southern Comfort n coke and JD is tollerable I guess lol
£100 deal
not that i'm disappointed or anything but my deal (hah!) for an XDAII for £100 has fallen through. If anyone wants to try then find someone who works for a well known electrical retailer d-x--s for example and find out if they are willing to buy at staff discount a phone for you. d-x-n- staff get really good prices on mobile 'phones if they sign up for a specific network and contract.
ian
O2 / XDAii contracts are available from £99.99 via a host of High street O2 Dealers here in the UK, sample contract on Ebay, follow the link below:

£75 a month. Ouch!
I would imagine that for most users you could get a cheaper deal over 12 months by paying a bit more up front.
Then again what do I know - I'm fortunate enough to get my Xda II entirely free of contract as part of my job
cheap XDA II
My company also do a deals with O2, Vodafone for staff to buy a phone for 50% off onetime, and 25% off rental and call for life. So is quite common. So £200 is an achievalble street price with a bit of haggling. They are going to recoup this in rental and calls so they are not too worried.
They think that anyone that buys an XDAII, IS GOING to use lots of MMS, GPRS,surfing etc, otherwise they'd have bought a sim free phone from another vendor.

Help Me Buy a XDA EXEC: I Will pay for your 1yr Subscription

EDIT*
Ok guys I will be visiting the UK this week, I really need someone to help me get this phone as o2 only sells to UK residents. I saw on one of theses treads that they now have a student price for 114 ponuds with a 1 year contract bringing the final price to around 345 pounds....CAN ANYONE HELP? FYI:
will pay cash
would buy 2 if price is good (extra phone for wife)
don't want to try EBAY  that place is just to scary for me!!!
will pay little extra for your time/trouble
Hello All,
I don't live in the UK, however I really want one of thoses black beauties (XDA EXEC). I need an o2 member to buy the phone for me with the lowest 1 year subscrition. I will then pay for the cost of the phone and half the cost of the subscription! You get a full year of service with o2 at half the online cost to use on your present phone and I get a XDA EXEC at a reduced price can any of you be willing to help me! of course this is for people who don't really want a XDA but want a new o2 contract at half the price!
Thanks [/list]
wont they release the phone contract free??
I think you'll struggle to find anyone willing to accept that deal, truth be told. O2 don't offer great deals with subsidised 'phones (in the UK at least) apart from maybe to existing customers whom they hope to retain. For example, the cheapest tariff available with a handset is something like £17 for 50 minutes but it's not difficult to find, for example Vodafone sims (with cashback) that effectively offer 1000 minutes for free. e.g.
http://www.scancom.co.uk/product.php/958/476//655aea8edf70d8d14da1da39d5d245e6
Also, the XDA Exec will be locked to O2, maybe even to O2 Uk, so I'd either just stump up the extra for a jasjar/qtek or wait until there's a proven unlock procedure.
sorry to be so negative.
 well i really hope someone is interested in helping, i know the phone will come locked, but with a community like this  i KNOW i will be able to unlock it. Call me silly but the JasJar is ugly compared to the xda exec, hence me wanting one. xiasma, thanks for your feedback, i guess it would not be worth anyones time to take up my offer!
Well, it seems you're aware of the options, so if an XDA is the handset you want, O2 have suggested a contract-free price of £400, so this may be your best bet. The prices should be available by the end of the week, or Monday next week at latest, i'd guess.
I'm hoping O2 offer it on their online, business-only tariffs (£16.50+VAT / month) at less than £250+VAt for the XDA. Failing that, I don't mind which network really, and the colour doesn't bother me, so it'll probably be T Mobile, possibly on their 100mb 3G tariff.
£400...that would be the cheapest price yet for this kind of device, Do you know if this applies to non UK persons? that works out to $TT4000.00 in my currency  If you get more info PLEASE keep me updated. Thanks a mill friend!
As soon as I know pricing and availability, I'll post it in this forum. Unless someone beats me to it
Somebody is deaming
T-Mobile is tradtionally the cheapest and most agressive, and they sell it for 550GBP on Germany. There is no way o2 is doing for 400GBP. your are kidding yourself. Expect, at best, between 500-600 sim free from o2. They are just never cheap to buy from o2.
REALLY NEED YOUR HELP GUYS!!!
oh I forgot please PM me your telephone contact and i will call to finalize any details!
thanks again
haha, are you kidding?
you can get the phone for 114 + 19x6= 228 pounds, and the one who get it for you, need to pay for 114 pounds for 50 mins per months and no new phone at all?
then what is the benefit for him?
i think if i sell the phone for 400 pounds, there are a lot of people want to buy it....
then at least he/she no need to pay for the whole year contract and earn a little bit of money..
@siupiu
How do you get a 6 month contract? I have misunderstood your calculation?
the guy said that he will only pay for half of the cost of the subscription, so he only pay for 228, and the the person need to pay the rest of the subscription, so the person who help him to get the Exec, need to pay 114 and have no new phone...
to be honest, who will do this stupid things???
if there are anyone who to sell the phone to me for 228 pounds, i probably buy as much as i can.
siupiu, I WILL PAY FOR THE FULL YEAR SERVICE...so i get the phone and the person gets 1 year's services paid up front to use.
siupiu
these phones (XDA EXEC) are flying of ebay for £450 to £600, put on tomtom and throw in a GPS reciver and youl get more-one just went for £695.00 with the GPS stuff on ebay, mate youl be lucky if you get one for less then £250.
If you do give me a shout il buy em in bulk! lol

Brand new orange M5000 for sale!! Get it cheap.

I am selling itn on Ebay, but thought I would see if anyone here on the site wanted it. It is a brand new handset that was provided by orange to me only 3 days ago. I have since had them upgrade me to another handset due to minimul to zero 3g coverage in my home. You can see my feedback, also if you Pm me I am more then happy to take any photos.
://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6475949561&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
I have also got a bluetooth gps holuz reciever if anyone wants.
----Off topic----
Just out of curiosity, how did you have them upgrade you again and let you keep the universal? Didn't they want the Universal back?
Are we all allowed to put links to our eBay sales in here? Genuine question (to which I would expect the answer to be no).
I spend over £600 a month on orange and no they did not want the handset back. Beacuse they simply upgraded me for free but on the basis that I renew my contact for another 12 months. Which is no real bigge as my wifes family are all on orange. I have just bought a new voda contract and see my self going that way as I get full 3g coverage. I am sick and tiredof hearing the antenas are down in your location down sir.
Out of intereset this is my 5th upgrade this year on orange.
I have seen many other links for people selling their stuff on ebay. if anyone objects I will remove the link. Please let me know.
Regards.
Out of intrest i have now ended my contract early and my number is being made int pay as you go. Who says orange are all that bad, the reason so my wife can still get her extra 50% minutes and other benifits, as long as I top up 10 a month. So I am now on Voda and loving the free live. Out of my contact and not paying anything to end 11 months early a result. Thanks orange for being understanding, so it is good note that I end my time with orange. I still pay my wifes bill so I still have an account but my main number is now voda.
Repeat thanks orange for orange for being understanding, got nothing but love for you.
So I will be looking for less for the m5000, as I simply want to put orange in the past. Plus point can use my 8800 more now, with my now pay as you go number.
gr8!!
really they give you 5 upgrades in one yr!!!
ANd then they let you walk out w/o paying the line rental for the rest of the yr.
ofcourse you pay £600 a month though I would have not expected that. I mean they want to keep customers like you, why let you walk? and why offer 5 upgrades? Amazing!
Wish the networks had smthng similar for the more humble £300pm payers.

[Q] How easy is to buy a Focus without a contract?

I will be traveling to the US in about a week, I want to buy a Focus and was wondering if I will be able to do it without having a contract with At&t..
I'm willing to pay the "No Commitment Pricing" of $500+taxes but I don't know what kind of requirements they impose to the actual purchase of a device in the store.
Anybody has info on this?

Your best bet is Best Buy if/when they get the phone, I think.
When I bought my Focus today in an official AT&T store, they mentioned I would have to purchase some sort of contract to "get the phone today". I didn't mind since I was planning to, but it felt to me like it was a necessity...
Anyone else have problems buying off contract? I used my upgrade on an iPhone 4 and wanted to buy this for the full retail price today.... Hopefully I don't run into any problems =/
I bought mine no contract with no hassle. I'm already an ATT customer and just asked to buy the phone without a contract.

phew... load off my mind. now i can sell off my samsung captivate without worrying the whole day if i did it for nothing. THANKS
I got the phone when the stores open in Columbus, OH on the 8th. There were 4 of us in line there. The other 3 were Microsoft employees. Two bought the focus, one the HTC. All bought them with NO contract. Infact I think one guy paid for all three of them lol. I'm pretty sure since you can order them online with no contract for $499.99 at ATT.com that a contract is not needed.
I walked in and out of a official att store with a focus.
Buy it @ at&t stores should be no problem at all. The biggest problem is to get it unlocked.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
You can't buy the Samsung Focus off contract currently. AT&T will sell it outright ($499 + tax), but they will only sell it to you if your an existing on-contract customer or you sign up (with a minimum term). I've already been to AT&T and tried, apparantly my money is not good enough there. I'm not sure how people in the US put up with this rubbish. Either way, the only way to get a Samsung Focus in the US at the moment is to sign up at AT&T.
I've also been to Best Buy, but they only stock the HTC Surround, which I won't buy due to it not having a microSD slot.
I'm currently an AT&T customer who just renewed my contract for another 2 years for the iphone 4. So they'll be able to sell me one full retail price, right?

What about Amazon Wireless, I think you can buy there without a plan...
EDIT: I just confirm this, you can buy without a plan!
Most online site still need to verify your status with AT&T (at least that's the policy with Letstalk.com). Stores don't like to sell phones without contract because there is no money to be made (monthly service charges).

You can go elsewhere on the net as well. The problem is AT&T has the best price right now. Everyone else is a good 50-80 more expensive. I'd rather save the extra cash and grab a branded one...

Dude I meant the branded ones (AT&T), for example the HTC SURROUND AT&T BRANDED price is $460 or something like that. And I was able to go through all the checkout process, just that I didn't want to pay, hehehe
OK cool.. I hope there are Focus left when I´m there!
Amazon.com doesn't have Focus in stock. In fact, it only briefly showed up in like 10 seconds before it was sold out @ 11/8.
You go to Dell online and buy any phone on any carrier in the US and some unlocked Nokia's without a contract and in some cases the prices are pretty good...I have a Streak AND a Nokia N8 on the way lol. The Nokia (ugly pea green one) was actually only $450 compared to $550 most other places. If I don't like either one I may be joining the Focus owners club in a few weeks.

Bell Galaxy S2 4G - Canadian Release (July 14th) - First in North America

Bell Canada and Virgin Mobile Canada will be releasing the Samsung Galaxy S2 4G (the 4G is Bell's naming, its still 21Mbps) July 14th. Many retailer already received the unit, but they will go on sale only on the 14.
This thread is to collect information, tips, and rooting/unlocks tips.
Similar thread over howardforum: http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...will-sell-it-unlocked?p=14466326#post14466326
Price is gonna be 599.95$ without a contract an around 150$ with a 3yr contract.
Sadly, it seem for reason I don't undersand that retailer, will not let the phone go out of the store un-activated (need a new contract or an existing customer transfering phone). The minimum "contract" seem to be a 30day 50$ plan from virgin, bell offer a similar but add initial fees, which virgin don't.
If anyone find a way around this, or store willing to sell without activating the phone, post it over here.....
So far Futureshop, Bestbuy and some the source all told me the same... But feel free to give it a try.
More to come shortly

From polling a few retailers (The Source, Future Shop, Bell Mobility Stores, Wireless Wave, etc.) I found it's pretty much hit and miss. Usually 1 store is willing to sell it to you off contract for every 4 asked, but, then that could change if they fly off the shelves.
Most of the store I found had either them on order (avg 6 units), or in stock (avg 3 units)... So be there early.
Was there any Bell store willing to sell off contract? (I haven't tried thoses.) Assuming they would be less flexible.

I found one Bell store willing to do it, but, there was a condition that it would be a final sale.
They can say whatever they want but any phone sold by Bell will have to be honored by their warranty program. You can talk to Bell corporate about this and they'll confirm it. They'll also tell you that if you want to buy the phone off-contract they can't refuse you. Store owners are just being dicks because they get no commission with no plan activation. Had the same sort of issues when the Nexus S was released in Canada and people wanted to buy off-contract since they were unlocked (despite Rogers/Telus/Bell claiming they were locked).

I dont think that would be legal... How would they enforce this..
Sell a 599$ phone, but say, no warranty for you.
Really, I am looking at a the source flyer, and it say 599$ with no contract. There is no place where it say you need a minimum 30 days plan required.
Other than: to get the reduce price with a X year contract you need a minimum 50$ plan.
I just don't know how to force them to sell me the phone, even if I think they are lying about the 30 day
I'm definitely going to look in to getting one off-contract, as I'm currently with Rogers...
Anyone know of any issues so far that would prevent the phone from working properly on Rogers?

I got the impression that he was referring to not being able to return the phone within the 14 day return period. I don't think he was talking about the warranty.

My understanding is all that you'd have to do is root and unlock the phone, and it should work fine on the Rogers network.
News that the release date could be July 21st:
http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/07/12/b...p+(mobilesyrup.com)&utm_content=Google+Reader
When Bell announced they’ll be one of the carriers who will release the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G they never confirmed a launch date, only that it will be available “in the coming weeks”. Carriers usually state this just in case there are shipping issues or problems meeting software tests. Rumours surfaced over the past few weeks of a July 14th release, but we are now hearing the launch date is officially set for Thursday, July 21st.
Apparently us Canadians will be getting the latest software and Bell wants to ensure that enough supply is available. The internal doc we received says that Bell is “anticipating very strong demand for the device” and waiting for “adequate supply to arrive”. Samsung recently announced that worldwide sales of this Android has already topped 3 million in just 55 days. This will be available for $599.95 on a no-contract and it’s expected the 3-year price will be $169.95.
Every store I been to told me july 14. I don`t think they will push it to 21.
My Bell rep forbade my Best Buy from selling it before the 21st and I got confirmation of this via an internal memo. We have it, but can't sell it.
BS.... We will see..
Whether we want to believe it or not, it's the truth... I'm as frustrated about it as you are, as I sold my Nexus last week to pay off my Telus cancellation fees, and now I'm going to be phone-less another week and a half...
go to wireless wave or phone booth. they let you purchase the phone out right. the warranty is void if you unlock the phone no matter where you purchase the phone.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yea. that was my plan, walk around im sure somebody will sell it..
Just got back from Future Shop. Their live display model is out, and I managed to play with it a bit.
They confirmed as well that July 14 is the release date.
I got a question for you guys: Why don't you just buy one from a UK site instead of waiting for Bell/Virgin's release?
Warranty will be void anyways if you buy from Bell or Virgin without contract. You have to pay $599 + activation + possible minimum plan + tax + cancellation fee(?).
If you order from Clove or Handtec, you can get a UK warranty (meaning to ship back if anything unfortunate happen to the phone...better than no warranty!). It'll only cost less than $640 including shipping.
Anyone frankly explain it to me?
