Data recovery / black and broken screen - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Good morning
I just broke my phone, it fell to the ground....
it is locked, it is not in OTG mode, nor in USB debugging on the développer menu...
how to recover my precious data
?
M

Old phones were easy to just get a spare devices and just unscrew and swap things .
Not so much with new ones , but doable with some tinkering.
But you should provide a bit more detail on phone model, OS it was running etc...
To give people more ideas about your options.
Like if screen does not show a picture , but touch still works , you could be guided
with steps to enable adb shell or something like usb file sharing mode.
or if OS version has recovery enabled with adb access or just blind click a seqence
to backup to external flash etc..... .
But provide more info before people can respond with options !!!

Good evening, I can't give much information... the screen is black, the touch screen does not work, no vibration. the buttons work, (the volume button, on / off). They vibrate under pressure. the led is lit green. it's a OnePlus 5 with unchanged official rom, Android 10 the black screen does not allow me to know more... Thank you for your help

i do not know the about OnePlus phones
but worth checking if adb is enabled if you button boot to recovery

Hi how I did this please

How I do this

google 'OnePlus 5 recovery'
(power and volume down button)
from what i see in the images it seems to have adb options , not sure
if it is a full adb access. I have no oneplus phones.
But watch the videos , you might be able to follow the sequence of button pushes
to enable it if it is not enable on just booting to recovery mode.
(ussualy vol up down and power for select)
Sorry i cannot help further as i have no knowledge of oneplus .
But once you get adb access you are set, even without root. you
should be able to download your internal storage and data partitions.

[Q] nexus 7 won`t boot, stuck on loading screen till battery drains

Our nexus 7 has decided to stop booting. It will charge fine but if we try and switch it on it will get as far as the rotating circles and stops there, displaying the rotating circles till the battery runs out. I have done a factory reset but that had no effect either. I have looked at reflashing the OS but all the ways of doing it require developer mode to be enabled and the tablet will not boot to let us do that. Can it be activated any other way? I can`t remember if it has been updated to lollipop as my wife uses it, not me, but i think it has. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi! You don't need USB debugging enabled to flash stock. You use fastboot to flash firmware from the bootloader screen. ?
(the adb reboot command is for booting into bootloader from inside the Android System... Which you can't do anyway)
Follow this guide,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796
?
To get to bootloader,
Power off the device completely.
To enter Fastboot Mode you will need to press and hold Volume Down and Power, all at the same time.– do not release the buttons.
Release all buttons when the Fastboot screen appears.
– that’s it, if you see the START option listed in the upper part of your screen you’re in.
Select Fastboot.

Screen black (broken) - How to recovery data (no usb-debug)

Hi all,
I have a particularly tricky case here. A OnePlus 3T with a broken screen (its black, can't tell if its registering taps) which I need to recovery data (photos) from. Normally I'd just use ADB but of course usb-debugging isn't enabled. I've tried rebooting into recovery... hold the power button and vol-down until the phone vibrates, keep holding for a few seconds. Then wait. Then vol down twice and power again to hopefully select English but the when I try
Code:
adb devices
nothing comes up on the list.
I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas how I can recover data/photos from this device.
One again the facts are:
-OnePlus 3T
-screen is broken, black, doesn't display anything
-usb-debugging is NOT enabled
-i can see the device in fastboot mode (boot w/ vol-up+power)
Thanks!
Maybe try a mouse with OTG. Would be horribly difficult i guess. But can probably work.
Also with any recovery, it would require your pin to enter the recovery (for decrypting the partitions); so that's a no go.
All you can try is to just boot the phone normally and try any input with an external mouse with OTG. Bring it to a point where the phone is powered on and unlocked so that you can copy data off the flash storage in MTP mode.
Ps: why don't you try to normally boot the phone and use fingerprint unlock?
did you trying with this link?

Using this tutorial in this case would make no sense, since the damage is physical and this way you're going to lose all the data currently stored on the phone.

if you have no usb-debugging and cannot see screen you are out of luck. same thing happen to me. the only thing that worked was I had twrp recovery and was able to boot into it. Recovery by default is in mtp so you will be able to see all your folders and transfer pics or backup files. last resort was to send it to oneplus repair which will cost about 100 bucks and you will get your phone back within 7 days remember to tell them to not reset phone because they will if you dont. good luck
You can also recover the data very easy through data recovery softwares. No usb-debugging and cannot see screen you are out of luck. I also have to face same problem the only thing that worked was I had twrp recovery and was able to boot into it.
You can try to flash TWRP in fastboot, then reboot recovery via fastboot command. MTP would work unless a pin is required in TWRP.
I can feel the situation, the phone doesn't work properly.

The no command screen is part of the stock recovery. You can use the volume buttons to navigate to the menu and the power button to select a menu item. I suggest you start with wiping the cache and then rebooting. It that doesn't work, you should try the hairdryer trick (search the 6P threads here on XDA). This may enable you to boot your phone briefly so you can enable USB debugging in the Developer options under Settings. If you can get this enabled, you may be able to use ADB to pull files off the phone from Recovery.

Broken display, backup data / pictures?

My display is broken. I can't see anything on my Samsung Galaxy A40.
From the internal storage I would like to backup the pictures and videos.
USB Debugging is not activated.
When I turn it on it vibrates. So the phone seems to work.
But I can't see anything and therefore can't enter my PIN.
Is there any way to access the data without using the screen?
Is the bootloader unlocked?
Then you can fastboot boot twrp.img
And you should get a root shell to backup /sdcard folder

I have the same situation on my device. However I can't upload a new recovery image as the bootloader is not unlocked. Did you managed to recover your data somehow?

That's a big mistake my friend. Always remember first thing to do when you get a brand new device is to unlock that bootloader and enable USB debugging! It can come in very handy in such situations.
I'm afraid the only option for you is to look for a temp root shell PoC in the Sony cross device development section
Good luck!

This site shows the option to connect A40, if still Android 9.0, via usb hub to external screen and mouse and unlock. For Android >10 this doesn't work anymore
I have the same issue and neither usb-debugging on nor fastboot enabled. A40 doesn't show up in adb. So I also read when putting A40 via Power and Volume up into download/recovery mode, at least a backup of data should work.
My current idea is I have to replace display in repair shop or unlock via usb-hub + mouse.
Something I don't get right. How do you power off the A40 without screen to get safely the SIM card out? Power and volume down 7 sec, then release power off, then volume down? When I do this the A40 reboots with vibration. Power and volume up apparently reboots to recovery mode. Long pressing Power also doesn't turn off A40. Also in the A40 manual nothing is written on this

Broken Screen, Developer options disabled, bootloader not unlocked, any chance for data recovery?

Phone was dropped, black screen nothing to see. The phone however works. I can boot into recovery and even start adb sideload. When doing so, it shows up on my PC with adb devices. However, that is as far as I can go.
The device has a sim and pin lock, obviously I know both code. Is there any chance to recover data (contacts and images) from the phone. Grateful for any hint or a solid idea. There are plenty of posts on the web telling I should connect via adb and unlock the phone but when connecting in recovery mode it does not show up on adb devices or fastboot as the developer-mode was never enabled.
I did also try commercial software (i.e. dr.phone) but the phone doesn't show up their either.
I've the same problem. Did you were able to recover the data?
No, I ended up having the phone repaired in one of the repair shops. I was able to recover all data. Now I use the phone as a backup and for programming and experiments....
