Update LG Stylo 3 past Android 7 - LG Stylo 3 Questions & Answers

Hi all. Newb here. I recently got a used Stylo 3. It's in good shape and works well for a mid range phone from 5 to 6 years ago. It's stuck with Android 7 though and won't update. Is there any way to force the phone to update past 7 to, say 10? Without rooting. Thanks in advance.

The LTE was disabled by Google since it wasnt approved in first place.
Also, there is a good sticky about rooting. I suggest you go read it.
i read that sticky already - it really was much easier before !
been playing with the phone for a while - stock experience is much better then before - almost usable, but i cannot use a stock phone never have and never will,l i had no idea that things have changed that much since the introduction or i wouldnt have bought it - oh well will sell it and buy another note 2 tomorrow to use for the time until the developers can get the phone functions and bluetooth running on my galaxy tab 7.7 on paranoidandroid 3, thanks for the help

You can flash one of the older radios to re-enable LTE, that works for that and just use the toolkit despite it not saying it doesn't support your current firmware, it works fine, unless you'd prefer doing everything manually via command line, if you're that experienced like I am, you can just go that route.

[Q] problem with battery since 4.4.3, and root help

Intro to my problem:
hey there,
i bought my nexus 4 about barely half year ago, it had the android 4.4.2, and there was no problem at all, after it there was an update to 4.4.3 OTA update, so i updated it and since that update, my battery on my nexus 4 is getting fast drained than it was befor.. ( now it barely survive 4 hours of facebook , whatsapp, youtube with screen on auto...when with my 4.4.2 it lasted for 1 and half day! ( a bit facebook , a bit whatsapp, and youtube).. now i tried to ota update to 4.4.4. but it doesnt make the situation any better.
so now i want to root my nexus 4, and get the best 4.4.2 rom out there to the nexus 4
What i seek to know:
1.so my first question: what is the best method to root my nexus 4? i heard about downloading "towelroot" thing, and then from the market "bootlocker unlock for nexus devices". ( i dont have any previous knowledge on rooting or into android things. im kinda new in it)
but, i also saw on youtube that some guy rooted he's nexus 4 throught a computer and it looks much more complicated.
so wich method is the best? and if i could get a guide, that would be nice
and also, whats the best 4.4.2 rom for nexus 4? i want one with alot of customization options.
thanks alot people! hope you could help me in my situation.
help? somone? i want to know how to root my nexus 4 the best way.

LOS for the new German Shiftphone 6mq?

Would like to point out that Shift phone has just released there new phone 6mq with changeable battery, Jack stick and Micro SD card! The 3 main things a mobile NEED to even be interesting to look at.
I have now rooted the Shift 6mq phone with Magisk and we have a dirty TWRP working as well, although still having issues on the later but it is in its beginning stages of this phone. SHIFT6mq - Bootloader unlock / Root / Custom Recoveries / ROMs | SHIFTPHONES
Would anyone be willing to look at the Shift 6mq so we can further support this little German company who goes against the stream of nonsense, it has Android 10 out of the box, they are still working on a Google version and a Light version so you have the choice.
But it is looking good, finally a contender to the old LG V20 - which I have had for my daily driver for 4-5 years or so. A wonderful phone although getting old and it had its shortcomings as well, like the screen Ghosting and not easy to root if even possible.
The LG V20 was the last flagship phone with the 3 essentials - and now we FINALY have something to take over from here!
Would love to see the community support this new mobile and help these guys out, I have toyed and tinkered around with it - and it is possible to pretty much ruin it and get it up and running again although a lot of hooping around, but it can be done already.
So if anyone have the know how, or interest to support a little company who at least stands on some sanity with there phone - it would be nice to see LineageOS support for it.
I don't know much about stuff like that, I just do some newbie rooting and such at the moment, having had to root my new used V20 F800K that already sadly does ghosting. And my new Shift 6mq which I got 10 days after my V20 F800K rescue boat came around to relieve my old V20 H990N Hongkong version as it was and is falling apart. I did not know when I would receive my Shift 6mq but it came around 10 days after I got the new used Korean version of the LG V20. Anyway at least it could be rooted, so that will help me get all my applications over to the new Shift 6mq, which is another milestone that needs to be walked.
Anyway, if any programmers are out there, or people who knows stuff, it would be a nice project for some sanity to support this new phone from Shift, seemingly a good replacement for the old LG V20. I still need to get it up and running and see how it works in daily use, but it looks like it will be a good phone for the next 5 years for me.
Not a surprise it is faster then the LG V20, benchmark shows a good leap - 128 GB of internal space although the system itself is 21 GB compared to 9 GB on the LG V20 which had 64 GB. 8 GB of Ram, although not sure what I need that much for, but I could not live without more internal space as I am always using it so quick on the LG V20, books, maps and such takes a lot of space and what not. One of the reasons I disqualified the Fairphone 3 when looking at both phones, only having 64GB of internal memory, is just not going to do it for me. I actually ended up just ordering another LG V20 but because of corona nonsense they would not send it to me, being much cheaper solution. And needing a new phone, I had to then go with the Shift 6mq which was 5-6 times as much compared to the 4-5 year old LG V20. Anyway, if a phone does not have the 3 essentials, I won't buy it, not interested!
Anyway...
So guys, anyone up for looking at it? If you need any help I am here. I have toyed around with it, and breaking it, I can get it up and running again. I've done it a couple of times now... And still doing some testing on TWRP which seems to have a failing bug that I need to report.
But in any case, would love to see anyone starting working on it.
Dearly regards
- Darkijah
You did a great thing by using a phone for over 4 years. These are why companies are making better phones with long term support - if you can replace the battery or screen for cheap, and your carrier doesn't offer you a "deal" on a new phone, why would you want one?
Now me on the other hand, in 6 years I've daily driven 5 phones and 8 versions of Android, including 4 custom ROMs.
HOWEVER, I did it sustainably - using only phones given to me for free with the exception of the Moto G and a used S10e.

Longevity

I've been using my OnePlus 7 pro since it first came out. I bought it when OnePlus offered it for sale at a low price and I loved it, from day one.
I am one to try different ROMs and Kernels but for the first time in Android history I was satisfied with Oxygen OS and didn't need a custom ROM. I do like to root the phone to use TWRP and Titanium Backup.
Somewhere along the line I thought I had bricked the phone. No matter what I did I could not get it working again or even run TWRP. So, as a last result, I decided to get another OnePlus phone, this time the 8 pro.
While using the 8Pro I learned of an app that let restore the phone to factory settings (MSM?). I tried it and I had my 7 pro back. Since I was using the 8 pro I decided to have an extra cell to use with wifi and the 7 went to live in my bedroom where I would use it nightly.
After a while, Android 11 came along and I could no longer use TWRP on the phone and it became overly difficult to root with magisk. After a while the 7pro got it working but never the 8pro. Not only that but the Bluetooth interface with my hearing aids started to malfunction regularly and this became a major headache. So I switched the SIM from the 8 to the 7 and everything works great and I'm so grateful it was able to be restored. It is head and shoulders greater than the 8pro and it as good as new.
I'm a little disappointed in OnePlus as they no longer offer regular software updates to their phones, and I'm pretty sure I will return to Google Pixel phones next time. I will sell the 8 and put the 7 in the bedroom as I have become accustomed to having one up there. I'm sure I can still depend on the 7pro for a long time more. I may switch to a custom ROM that is regularly updated unlike the OnePlus phones. But despite that, the 7pro is one of the best phones I've ever used. The 8 was great too, but just not for me.
They use the dual partition setup, which makes it more challenging for TWRP to be built.
What this means is that if you see an "OTA" update, you probably shouldn't jump on it and immediately install it. I did that once. After that I could not install TWRP because the phone had been updated from 10 to 11 and the TWRP team hadn't had time to release a new version yet.
Probably good advice on any phone though.... updates CAN stop you from having a rooted device, at least temporarily until a custom recovery is released.
As for my OnePlus 7 pro, i couldn't be happier.
I'm really glad that I paid the extra $200 for it on the OnePlus website.
Because that enabled Accident Protection.
At the end of the two year period, I set an alert to remind me, I called OnePlus and told them that i broke my back glass. They said No problem, send us the device and $75 deductible. Within 3 days I had my replacement device. Sure, it's probably a Re-man, but after 2 years of strong service and now I get a refreshed device??? I'll take it!

Mods/xposed modules/root on LG v20 on android 9

Hello everyone, new xda user here. So I have a korean LG v20 I bought used 2 years ago. Bought it because it had a replaceable battery and for these past 2 years, I have been happy using it stock and updated in to android 9 when that came out.
Lately, I have been getting an itch to install some mods and stuff but I'am clueless on where to start. I used to jailbreak iphones and ipads back in ios 6-8 and I had some experience rooting and installing xposed modules on some budget xiaomi and lenovo phones but that's the extent of my knowledge. I was wondering if someone could point me to the right direction... Threads to read and what not.
I've been reading some older threads here but I'm not too sure if it would still apply in a v20 on android 9. I'm guessing I would have to downgrade my software or something. Any comments or tips would be really helpful.
As for what I'm looking to do. It mainly has something to do with the second screen and modding it. Thanks in advance.
