ZTE Trek 2 K88 - updating from Jasmine? - ZTE Trek 2 Questions & Answers

I am a newbie to Android.
Mine is still on Jasmine so becoming incompatible for Play Store Apps
I finally did the B33 update via SD card - iso now 6.0.1,
Which firmware/ROM or whatever will fix my issue optimally?
Is thee a video?
Most instructions say "Download GAPPS if desired." - what is this about?
How to sideload?
If u Format/Wipe data and your install fails, your device will not boot

How do you find which version of ANDROID is installed
And is your ZTE K88 from AT&T - I like to install a clean ANDROID (minus ATT Bloats).
TIA

You two should look over at the CFW section

Galaxy S4 CM 12??

Guys i heard official CM 12 for Galax s4 i9505 released, i wanna install it, the problem is im a completely noob for install custom OS, never done it, im afraid i might brick the phone, can you guy guide me to do this please, current stock version 4.4.2 is very laggy :S
Thanks
Firstly, you have to be rooted.
I used this guide to root my s4. Installation instructions on second post.
Warning: Make sure you have the right model. Do not use CF-Auto-Root if you have an AT&T or VZW branded s4.
After rooting you will need a custom recovery.
There are several custom recoveries. The most popular being ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) or Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP).
You can use ROM manager from the play store to install a custom recovery.
Or go here and use that guide.
After rooting and installing a custom recovery you can flash a custom rom. What you need to do when flashing a custom rom depends on the rom itself. See the rom installation instructions for that.
It's not hard if you follow the guides carefully. Or you can as a friend (who is more experienced at this) to help you

You could flash the Google Play Edition ROM found here. I use it myself and it's very stable and haven't encountered any problems so far.
Edit: Only downside is that you can't move apps to sd card. It's not supported yet.

that sucks :. im a heavy app user ,anyways did your phone lagg on stock android? mine is very laggy.. its on 4.4.2
Not able to move apps to sd card is only a problem when you have the 16GB version. But I heard there is some workaround for this.
In my opinion stock rom was pretty fluid. Didn't have any stuttering. Only lag I ever experience was when changing music tracks and the home button lag. But I have the international (unbranded) version of the S4. Which means no carrier bloatware to suck up the power and performance of the phone.
The gpe rom does seem faster and smoother compared to stock firmware.

Recently updated my old Nexus 10/Manta to OmniROM 6.0.1 and I couldn't be happier. I had a fair bit of messing around on the first try until I got the sequence right...full wipe, flash ROM, flash Gapps pico and everything works REALLY well.
However, installing nightly updates is the same for me as the initial flash...I have to do a full wipe or I get the Google Services loop.
Am i doing something wrong is that how nightlies work currently?
Thanks.
Omnirom 5.1.1 on Nexus7, i can't use any of custom kernel. The installation work fine but after reboot the kernel is not install.

Hi,
i'm rather new with rooting, flashing and all the stuff that comes with it.
Now i have an Oppo Find7 and i managed to install the following:
-TWRP recovery
-OmniRom 5.1 nightly
-Gapps 5.1
I'm pleased everything worked but now i saw OmniRom 6.0, when i tried to flash it with gapps i encountered the first problem:
-The install of OmniRom went well but when i try to install Gapps 6.0 stock, it is saying i dont have enough storage? Can i somehow increase or free up this storage to it can fit?
Second question: If the above is possible, is there a way to flash OmniRom 6.0 and Gapps 6.0 without the loss of data? or do i still have to backup and restore with titanium backup?
Thanks in advance

Hi there,
I have a Nexus 7 2013 wifi. Latest omni marshmallow but I have one issue. Battery drain.
It seems as it does not suspend. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction to help squash this pesky bug.
What I can add is that I have a Nexus 5 with same apps and settings without the issue .

I just upgraded from ZTE Maven running Android 5.1, to a Galaxy Express 3 running Android 6.0.1. love the phone, but for one thing. I playing a game called Walking War Robots. It played good on the 5.0, but really lags bad on the 6.0.1.. I thought the better phone would be better but it's worse. I've also noticed that the graphics are better for the 6.0.1, including shadows for robots, etc. I believe it adds to the problem. What I'd like to know, is there a way to improve the performance of my phone to get rid of the lag, or is there a way to disable enhanced graphics and make the game think I'm running 5.0 to get rid of the shadows and enhanced graphics. I can do without robot shadows for the sake of smooth gameplay. Any help will be greatly appreciated... YodaXIII
password reset?
I decided to try the official Nougat for my 6P. Before going there, I made a TWRP backup, which I used "adb pull" to get to my computer. After trying Nougat and deciding I didn't like it, I went back to Omnirom from the TWRP backup. At boot it asks for the decryption password, which works fine, and omnirom starts up correctly. It then prompts me for password after restart, and it insists that I enter the wrong one. What options do I have to get past this, other than a clean install and then recover my apps/data from backups?
[edit: solved it] I entered the file manager of TWRP and removed /data/system/locksettings* After this, the next reboot required decryption password, as expected, but did not require a lockscreen password, so all was fine and I could again set a new lockscreen protection.
I have a micromax unite 4 pro (Q465) but on google there is no recovery img for any recovery I request u to help me how can I install a custom recovery to flash a zip filee please help me

Custom Rom

Hello,
I have a unlocked Huawei P8 GRA-L09 B390, and i would like to install the custom rom Gratitude by Tecalote, and I have some question :
- Should I install the custom rom, or should I wait an update (because the custom rom is based on firmware b366, and that would be a 'downgrade')
- If the custom rom based on B390 will be out, is that easy to update it. Can I do it immediately or should I unroot first then update ?
- I'm a player of Pokemon Go, can I still play it with the Magisk Edition ?
- What's the main difference between simple root my P8 and install the custom rom ?
Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure if I understand all your questions.
I'll try to help:
- If you install your custom rom it will be a downgrade, but it's possible, that it doesn't matter, because of many differences (as I hope)
- For the update to a new version of the rom, I can't help right now. The safest way to update would be to make a full wipe, so you get sure, that everything is okey and nothing is disturbing, but with some Roms it works also to just wipe the Cache and to flash the new Zip-file - read the instructions, for more safety make a full wipe, but you won't have to unroot
- If you install a Rom, you will have a new operating system, with a new user-interface etc. Perhaps you get more updates, perhaps less (depends on the developer of the Rom, this is not Huawei) - the system could work better or worser. With simple root you can use apps that need root-access (there are a lot).
For the Pokemon go apps I can't help
Could I help in general?

Rom for Samsung Tab A SM-T285

Hi People
Unfortunately not had any replies to my 1st post about what bloatware and preinstalled apps that I am able to remove from the device after rooting it.
Could I try from another Angle could anyone provide a link for a custom rom that I could try and install which would remove it by installing a custom rom?
Sorry guys but I'm desperate to get the crap off and free up the device storage!

If you goal is to free up space just removing preinstalled apps won't help that much since you are only modifying the system partition which is fixed and readonly. As for custom ROMs, since you are a T285 user you have the benefit of a wide range of ROMs to choose from, for 5.1.1 you have the tinker edition roms, on the other hand the 6.0.1 (CM, Omnirom) and 7.1.1 (Lineage, Omnirom) based roms allow adoptable storage, of course the 6.0.1 and 7.1.1 roms have problems just take note of the issues and problems each build has and see if it works for you. Just take a look at the ROMs and custom kernel section of this forum.
Thanks Jedid, would these roms remove bloatware upon installation? Which would you say is the most stable? Are they installed using Odin?

when you "install" these ROMs they actually replace the entire system and boot partition of your device, so they don't remove anything they replace it. In theory the Tinker Edition variant is the most "stable" as it is just stock with some apps removed. For non-stock based firmware (CM, LineageOS, Omnirom) I guess CM-13 has the most hardware support. Yes you use Odin to install these.
You wouldn't have clear step by step instructions to follow would you please? New to this it is rooted twrp and supersu.
Also could you provide the Rom on the tablet as it is now incase ever what to return it to normal.
Hi Guys I managed to install the Tinker Edition 5.1.1, it's still got kids mode Hancom, Samsung smart manager still on there? I don't seem to be able to move to SD card I thought you could on this rom? If not could anyone assist please?

Only 6.0.1 and 7.1.1 based roms like CM, Lineage and OmniRom support adoptable storage. For Tinker Edition use root apps like Link2SD to move to SD card.
With links2sd can you move any apps on the device to SD card? Are there any that do need to be left on the device?
After turning on the device today I don't seem to be connect to my wifi. Saying failed to obtain IP address also won't connect using tether from my phone either. All other devices in the household are connected fine, and there were no issues prior to installing Tinker edition rom last night. Can anyone help please? How to rectify? I've switched off router rebooted I've switched off device and still won't connect?
Sorted problem, the IP address needed changing!
If I have now installed custom rom after rooting my SM -T285 how do I put it back to how it was from new with no root or custom rom, none of the apps like sky sports mobile virgin media anywhere will work on a rooted device!

you can download the stock rom from sammobile, updato and then flash using odin
Would that over ride any custom rom then? Or would have to unroot after installing stock rom

Just bought a seller refurbished Xiaomi Redmi 2 ROM advice?

I'm pretty new to Android. Just bought a seller refurbished Xiaomi Redmi 2 (HM 2LTE-CMCC) 2GB 16GB 2014CP6123 from ebay. Has MUI 7.0 4.4.4 ktu84p. Should I factory reset (to get rid of any Chinese viruses/spyware etc.) and then flash EU Rom or global? I don't want to root it as I want to use banking apps etc. but would like the latest possible Android version which I read is nougat, is installing a custom Rom different to EU/Global Rom? Would a custom Rom affect the apps available on the play store? (I rooted an android tablet and couldn't use banking apps etc.)
Hoping someone could give me step-by-step general advice and best Roms etc/tutorials links? Also the video recording stated it would be 1080p but is a little fuzzy, it's turned itself off once or twice from sleep mode despite being almost fully charged and the battery seems to quite quickly. Do I need to buy a new battery?
Seems your phone is Redmi 2 Enhanced (HM2014813) which is China only version. i'm sorry to tell you that this version has no official global rom (China rom only available), no custom rom, and mostly no much help about this device. I think the used Leadcore CPU is the main problem.
Flashing miui rom using fastboot method is recommended to get rid of some bloatware. Please note you will still get some xiaomi chinese apps after flashing due to your phone variant.
