carrier locked sim... - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

I paid a sim unlock company over a year ago for the sim unlock code and got nothing but lies in return. Is there any way forward for me possible?

If you pay for the service, make sure they're reputable beforehand. One way to tell is if they offer unlock codes for metropcs phones that come with unlock.apk Phones with that app do not have a code to unlock, it's done remotely through metro, so don't trust anyone saying different.

What happens when a G1 is activated?

I bought a G1 off of Craigslist. Like an idiot I reset it and now it is locked and I can't use it since I am on ATT. I asked a friend to call Tmo to get the unlock code but they wouldn't give it saying that the original owner needs to ask for it.
I want to use this guide, to unlock it but I need to activate the phone first in order to downgrade to RC29. If I use my friends T-Mobile SIM card what will happen with his plan and does he need to have a data plan in order to activate it in the first place?
I am assuming that after its been activated I won't need to use his SIM anymore to get around the phone and I am confident enough to be able to downgrade it through use of the excellent guides on this forum.
If there is an easier way to unlock my phone, it would be much appreciated but I have no way of paying over the internet for a code, so I'm stuck at the moment.
You don't need his SIM card to be able to flash RC29, and that guide isn't going to change the fact your phone will still be SIM locked.
Really? That sucks. I guess I will just sell it and buy an unlocked one. Thanks for the reply.

Some stes will have you pay $20 to get the unlock code, they work but the best way would be to call the carrier (which you said you can't do already). Either way will unlock the phone for you
Did you try getting your friend to call tmo and see if they can provide him with the unlock code with your phone? He'll need some numbers off of your phone though.
dont know if anyone knew this...but sim cards are sold seperately, you could buy a prepaid sim card from tmobile, no phone. Just a prepaid card where you add your own minutes put that into the phone, then that activates it, and you will also be a tmobile customer- where you can now call and ask for the unlock code.

But they have a loyalty agreement and won't give unlock codes if you haven't been a customer for three months I believe.

[Q] SIM/Unlocking question.

Hello, my friend from Israel want's the G2, and we got some questions.
His provider is Orange by the way.
He wants to buy one on Ebay and a lot of them already come unlocked.
Is this trustworthy? I've been hearing a lot of G2's don't work when unlocked.
Also, unlocked means he can insert is SIM card and it should work?
Also, if he does buy a locked version. Is it possible for me to go to a T-Mobile store and ask them to unlock it for me?
Also, does anyone know if it will work in Israel?
If they say it is unlocked then it should work with other providers worldwide.
Yes, you can request the code from T-Mobile, but this is possible only if you are the direct owner.
As long as it's unlocked it looks like it would work fine with an Orange SIM Card in Israel.
So er, just to verify - the Desire Z is sold "sim free" - this is the same as unlocked, right?
yeah!.............

I would imagine. Phones are usually locked when they are sold through one specific carrier. If you are buying from a carrier it's probobly locked, if through 3rd party company it's more than likely unlocked.

It needs to be unlocked. I just did this last night myself. Because the phone just came out yesterday, it will cost a bit more to unlock. I went through HTCsimunlocknow dot com and I was a little worried when I paypaled over my money and they didn't give me a transaction number, and then when they came back and asked me for $10 more (they SAY it'll cost $15).
Slightly bumpy road, and I'm still in the process of figuring out the mobile internet settings, as Fido can't really help me out with that.

Question for you sir? What is Bell's policy on unlocking their phones? Companies can be real pricks when it comes to intellectual property. If they say that they cannot give you the unlock code, then buy the phone from the US. All t-mobile needs is a receipt of proof of purchase and your IMEI number and they'll fork over the unlock code.
I never go with all the unnecessary flashing of services which more than often damage the phone's memory.
What was the point of my rambling, oh ... CALL your provider and ASK for the unlock code.
Desire Z is free sim. so you can buy it for use everywhere
but the T-Mo G2 is lockd, you can ask the T-mobile to unlock it if you are the owner direct.
good luck!

The salesperson at the Bell store told me that it would be a $35 charge, and they'd make me wait a whole bunch of days before they grant any sort of unlock code. Given the nightmare stories I've been told about Bell's customer service, I didn't even bother attempting to squeeze it out of them, as I figured that they had no incentive to grant it anyway (my only leverage was that I bought the phone outright and they're not subsidizing a contract).

[Q] AT&T will not give me an unlock code for the Focus

I have been a customer with AT&T for well over a year.
Why will they not give me an unlock code for this phone.
Does anyone know of any reputable online unlock sources to use that might have the Focus as a unlockable phone?
Also would calling Samsung directly get me any further?

Unlocking is totally up to AT&T. Samsung won't help you on that. Whether or not online vendors can help is up to specific vendor. I know Samsung Captivate can't be unlocked by any 3rd party vendor and AT&T claimed 10-month exclusivity and refuse to give out any unlock code. Looks like Focus will be the same.
Just to be sure, you have a post paid account with AT&T and paid all your bills on time, right? That were the only criteria in the past determine whether or not AT&T will give you the unlock code for a phone. Now Captivate is the first phone that didn't follow that policy (iPhone is the exception).
Yes post-paid account and paid all my bills on time. They better not screw me on this. I mean its a world phone and I'm gonna be traveling out of the country. It's not like I'm gonna cancel my service with them. And even if I did they would still charge for early termination fees.
Did they give you any reason why?
You can still use it as world phone. Just have to pay AT&T $$$
Exclusivity to the carrier, the usual BS and the 10 month wait thing.
Can we get this unlock codes outside of at&t? or probably something like HSPL or something with that sort of access to the focus?
Quick update on the unlock fiasco....
I called Samsung direct and was transferred to their Level 3 technical support hotline and they gave me the unlock code without any struggles.
Make sure you put in a foreign sim and enter the unlock code and your golden.
Confirmed working by putting in a tmobile sim and made a phone call.
That's good to know
I never had problems getting unlock codes from them in the past though I remember someone saying the a/c should be in good status and beyond 6 months into the contract.
Nice! That IS good to know. Yet another reason why I'm starting to like this more than the iPhone where you get NO unlock code, ever, from anyone, for any reason.

Hate to tell you the bad news, yet each unlock number is unique to the phone's IMEI.
i'm pretty sure he meant the samsung direct number

I called AT&T, then SAMSUNG, then had AT&T call SAMSUNG.
The verdict is:
Samsung can get you to the screen where the NCK code should be entered.
BUT only AT&T can give you that code.
THe AT&T agent went on to tell me that they see in their system that unlock codes will be made available but some time next year... :-(
Does anyone know of other methods to get this unlocked? I'm spending some time in Europe at the end of the month and if I can't get this unlocked I'm just going to return it and get something else...
All you need to do is just call Samsung directly and tell them you have the NCK code.
Tell them you need to speak with Level 3 support.
The NCK code AT&T gave me was 97884489, but Samsung didnt even need that number when I called them the second time.
They will tell you to follow the process like this w/o a sim but you dont need to:
#7465625*638*CODE#
This wont work. Just get a non-AT&T sim card and enter in the unlock code they give you and voila your unlocked.
What is a NCK code? is this number specific to each individual phone?
Wow this is so great and worth trying

Here you pay $16.99, send you IMEI and get the code.

T-mobile unlock bootloader?

Hi I am wondering if i purchased a gs8 outright will tmobile unlock the bootloaded for me?
Lol no... They will unlock the sim at 45 days of service
Ah thanks. It seems pretty ****ty that even though you pay for a phone outright they do not want you to do what you want on it. That should be illegal lol
Sad but true. You could have had better luck if you got the Verizon or even the AT&T version instead. Spending 5 minutes by googling each carriers sim unlock policy could have given you all the answers beforehand. Our country and cell phone providers are extremely shady regarding sim unlocking our phones

You have to buy the Exynos version. I've imported phones in the past to do stuff like that. Got three Motorola phones from other countries, via eBay and other sources -- running them on AT&T, bootloader unlocked. $700 each for the first two.
He said unlock the bootloader not sim unlock big difference there.

Of course but anyone smart enough to post a thread all by themselves has to know these are never going to have the bootloader unlocked so its safe to assume he meant sim unlock instead. Who contacts the cell phone provider to unlock the bootloader? The carrier at best can sim unlock it they dont even know a bootloader. Samsung reps dont even have a clue if you asked them. Everybody who cares about the boot loaders already knows the status
Nah i know the difference. I just figured i'd ask about it lol

Everybody who knows anything learned it from an external source. There are that are bootloader locked until the phone is paid off then it is both SIM and bootloader and lot but only for selected phones. Not all but some. The Google Pixel is a good example of that. You can pay it off completely and in x days unlock the bootloader. The OP probably heard something along these lines and wondered if this courtesy was available for its phone. Unfortunately it's not for the T-Mobile variant and maybe others but I don't know about them. I also am waiting for a policy change that maybe we're allowed to get into the phones that we fully own. One last thing everyone is as smart as every teacher allowed them to be.

Legit unlock services?

Currently using the AT&T variant with Cricket. The Cricket service is TERRIBLE in my area. But Metro/TMo is strong. Got the phone through a trade and it seems there's a balance from the previous owner so AT&T DOESN'T want to unlock it through their unlock site. Any word on legit unlocking services? Like, put in the IMEI and pay $25 or so for an unlock code when I slap a Metro PCS sim into the phone? There's cellunlocker and unlockradar etc but just curious who has experience with a legit unlocking service online? Thanks.
Thanks for the link! I found one on eBay for $13 that worked like a charm! Back on metro and back in business. Thanks again.
Soooooo much better.
I know it's late, but I bought a second hand S8 AT&T that was also with a debt (previous owner didn't mention it on the listing) and doctorsim.com managed to unlock it anyways
Just for future reference
Thanks! Yeah I may be getting an ATT S7 (found a good deal) for my gf for Christmas so that's a good tip.
I would like to help too if any one need unlock
