Lumia 950XL Single Sim after network dropped 3g. - Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL

I purchased a brand new 950XL Single Sim to still use on Puretalk an ATT carrier. Strange it only drops call and will not call out? I have a prototype 950XL ss that makes calls with the same sim. The prototype is stuck on a really old version of Windows Phone.
The new phone I purchased took the entire day to update to the latest release and refuses to make a call. Texting works fine.
Any ideas?

First, ask the mobile operator of your SIM card.

Ok, I tested everything with my carrier. The new 950XL can text and surf but it will not call out. It says drop call immediately.
Any help is appreciated!

Does it drop toll free emergency number without SIM and with SIM in phone?
Did I understand correctly that it receives incoming calls?

It drops all calls. As soon as you hit the call icon it drops the call without trying. Incoming calls do not work either, they go right to voicemail. My other 950XL SS that is a ATT prototype and stuck on an early windows version calls out just fine.

It is possible that the Radio Interface Layer is partially corrupted (software, by an incorrect update or hardware).
Switch to GSM or HSPA and try.

I don't see where to do that in settings?

I tried this and it didn't fix the problem. Maybe something is corrupted? I did notice that I don't have the double tab to open screen option.
Thank you.

It seems to be because the international versions of the 950 XL do not support VoLTE.

Do you have a suggestion what firmware I should flash for success?

Just started trying to get this phone working. Does anyone have a success story with the 950xl single sim on a US based carrier?

I have that phone in Spain and I can't call too. I just rescue it and I would love to make it run.

Not receiving calls on Hermes, but still on other phones

Hallo,
I have a world-wide gsm version of the htc Hermes. The device is simlock-free and always has been. I put the official, albeit leaked, WM6 rom on it and it works great. But: last week I switched providers (for better data plans) and here is the result:
Data connection works just fine
SMS works just fine
But, I can hardly make calls and I don't receive any. The problem is not the network, because I switched phones (I put my SIM in a €26 SamSung phone which I use when I go camping) and I receive all of the calls. When someone calls me, they hear silence for about 30 seconds and then end up with my voicemail.
Any ideas as how to solve this? Both my old and new carrier are GSM. The only difference between them is that my old carrier (Belgium, Proximus) uses has a 3G/HSPDA network whereas my new carrier (Belgium, MObile Vikings; uses the network of BASE) has an EDGE network. Both operate on Dual Band.
EDIT: Would a radio upgrade do any good? If so, any suggestion for a radio version?
Thank you!
Come on, 80 views and no reply. Someone must have had an idea!
I did a radio upgrade (1.48-> 1.50) but that didn't solve the problem. Any other ideas?
I have TyTN and similar problem. Installed WM6, and worked fine for a 6 months. Few days ago problem (Strange?) started. I have GSM signal, I can make calls, I can receive calls from fixed lines and other GSM operators, but I can't receive calls from users of my domestic network?!? They get info Connection error? Please, HELP.
Also, when I ask request service for Call Barring I get info "Can't read specified service..."
Change the Sim
Long shot but have either of you thought to get a new sim from your current provider (port your number across if necessary) and see if that works?

I've changed SIM card, it's still same problem! But, with a SIM card of other mobile operators I have no problem.

Sounds like a problem that's related to the network provider you are using. Have you chased down their technical dept for help? All else fails, move providers.
Once had a problem where I could not get mobile signals at home but could everywhere else. Turned out my service provider had issues with broadcasts to the cell near me.
They fixed it and gave me my charges back equal to the time the system had been out.
Good luck with it.

Will 911 emergency calls work without a carrier?

Hi,
I purchased an HD2 from Europe when they 1st came out, signed up with T-Mobile (a few Monthe later) to see how I'd like it as a phone (intended on using it as a PDA initially) and them dropped the T-Mobile service after about 4 Months.
Question is, will the phone still connect to 911 without a service provider and is a SIM card required to be installed (with or without active service)?
Thanks for your help!
Mike
Keep the phone with you. Next time you see an accident, call 911 from it to report it. A legal way to find out if it works or not.
Thanks for the suggestion...
911 service works from any cell phone with or without sim card or service as long as you are within range of a compatible network. Its a law. When you place a 911 call from cellular device it will place call on first available network.
Yes, but 112 is the international standard. Works in any country. Any carrier that has a band your phone supports will route it to the emergency services. I think it goes to the strongest signal, but I don't kwow what happens if your own carrier is present but not the strongest. And 112 calls are never locked (that is, you can always call 112 even when the phone is PIN locked). I'm not sure whether 911 has the same priviledge.
Thanks all!

Please help! S5 not making/receiving calls. Works with one sim card not the other.

Got the S5 the other day from my sister and tried to swap my spanish sim (from galaxy nexus) into the phone only to find it takes a micro sim. Had a look online and saw that you can try and cut the other one down. I have done this and sms and 4g work fine, but when I try to make a call it cuts out and says "call forwarding". I thought I'd try my english sim which is a micro and macro (has a pop out border). I can make calls with that in.
So... Is it the sim? Maybe network settings or something needing updating? Strange that data and sms work but calls don't.
Thanks for reading.

Straight Talk restricting outgoing calls because of 2g migration

I tried to make an outgoing call this morning, only to get a notice that my outgoing calls have been restricted and that my 2g phone will no longer work. It re-directs me to their call center, where my only options seem to be either order a replacement phone or activate the replacement phone.
Here's the catch. I'm using an iPhone 6 with a 2-year old SIM card that has worked flawlessly the whole time (actually, it still works fine, it's Straight Talk's system blocking my outgoing calls). When I question them on this, they blame my phone and say I need to order a new SIM, and the tech was unable to answer my question regarding the ability to call 911 (I can't even check voicemail, but I don't want to test 911).
I can still receive calls and my cellular data works just fine (posting this on LTE), but my outbound calls are being re-directed.
Has anyone run into this issue? Has anyone found a way to get rid of the block? I can't get anywhere with their "support". I should not have to buy a new SIM card for something that shouldn't affect my service.
Straight Talk should just send you a new sim without charging for the sim.
They sent me a replacement sim when I misplaced my phone without any problems. I found the phone and didn't need the sim. They didn't charge me for the sim.
The problem is likely on their end with the provisioning of the sim.
Did they try to send you a new sim ?
I finally was able to get around scripted CS and talk to somebody knowledgeable. They're sending me a new SIM.
Apparently, I got caught by the net because I used this SIM in an old flip phone several months ago.
My biggest concern with the whole thing is the ability to call 911, and why they don't have an escape route so that you can still place calls without ordering or activating a replacement phone. My first few contacts left me with a replacement phone as my only option.
Notice to all providers. In the future, please make these notifications so that they don't block outgoing calls. Play a notice, give a number to call, then allow the call through.
Luckily, I have FaceTime Audio to continue making calls in the meantime (new SIM arrives Tuesday).

G935U No Service

Okay so I have been fighting this phone for months now. I am so ready to just sell it to some phone trade-in company for $175. I am at a complete loss.
My father-in-law ran over his SM-G935V (yes, Verizon) with a golf cart and broke the screen and back plate. He then gave me the phone so I could fix it and use it. I replaced the screen and back cover on it and ordered a verizon sim card (I was on straight talk BYOP program using an ATT sim card) I activated the sim card and it didn't work on this phone. It just said, "Searching for Service". I put the sim card in my Moto X (Pure Edition) and it worked fine and had full signal. I took it back apart and made absolute sure that the antenna and every other connectors that I unplugged were seated and connected properly.
Seeing all the verizon bloatware and that it was on 6.0, I then thought it may be a software issue so I decided to get the G935U 7.0 factory unlocked image from sammobile.com. I waited for like 4 hours and downloaded both the unlocked version and the Verizon version. After using odin to flash both of them (one at a time of course) neither worked . The flash did work perfectly in every other aspect and the phone is now a G935U. I still have the original problem, however, where the phone shows "no service" and wont connect to a cellular network. It auto configures for what ever sim card type I put in (verizon, ATT ect) and connects to Wifi.
I'm so done with this thing.
Any suggestions?
Thanks guys!!
I have the same problem, I haven't find any fix to this error...
I didn't have much money into the phone so I sold it on one of the phone trader websires for $180.
Case closed haha
No service message
I'm using smg935v with straighttalk byop sim card.. every time I restart my phone it says searching for service.. no text messages or incoming phone calls can be recieved. However, if I open the phones dialer and attempt to complete any dialed number.. Verizon wireless reappears and full phone functionality returns. I realize this is way late on your post and this probably doesn't matter.. but this may help anyone else experiencing this issue in the future.
I have a Verizon Galaxy S7 Edge G935V. I use it on Straight Talk with the AT&T sim card I took out of my Nexus 5.
I had to go into the settings and change it from CDMA to GSM. There is another choice called Global.
I tried both GSM and Global with same results.
Next I went into the APN settings and added a new APN. I entered all the information required for Straight Talk.
The phone is working fine except for 2 things I noticed. The verizon s7 Edge is missing LTE Band 17 and I think 12 too.
In my area Band 17 LTE is what my nexus 5 would connect to verified by an app called LTE Discovery available on Play Store.
On the S7 Edge it doesn't get Band 17 LTE. Fortunately I can connect to another band but its not quite as strong but it works.
I can surf, text and send pictures. When sending pictures I noticed the messenger program (default) isn't reducing the size of
the pictures small enough to work with text messages. I struggled with this for a week until I tried an experiment.
I used an app called Photo and Picture Resize. The App lets me take a picture, resize it and then send it with the messenger app.
Once the picture was reduced it sent fine. My nexus 5 never had this problem.
The other thing I noticed is sending a video text results in terrible quality. I have tried the lowest resolution
to the highest resolution setting with no improvement. I did a search on this and others seem to have the same
problem with the other versions of the S7 Edge, S8 and S9. I would like to find a fix for that.
The straight talk site offers the correct APN settings should you not know what the are.
