I'm afraid you'll need root to do that. And since the new Fire 8 can't be rooted.. you just can't.

[Q] Anyone ported nst to andriod emulator?

I was wondering if anyone has gotten NST ported to the android emulator yet, and if so, how? The main reason for this is to help programming, modding, and all around layout.
I have ran across info for the nook, but after applying it to the nst, the emulator would not boot completely.
I once tried doing that. It got to the registration screen and went, PHUT!...
But it is possible.

If you could get it to skip OOBE maybe that could be a way to get more people devving on the NST without having to have them have a NST
Not sure this is possible. Some of the preinstalled apks have native libraries installed and they probably won't run on the qemu emulated cpu which if I remember correctly is a armv5 based one.
In Reader.apk for example you'll find "lib/armeabi/libbndeviceinfo.so" which, hopefully tbh, is compiled for an armv7.

There is tuto for old nook – you can google it up.
NC emu you can get with NC SDK.
And there is nothing about NST emu...

Run Apps in Windows

Hey guys,
I was wondering if there is any sort of way to have apps open in windows instead of opening on the entire screen. I for some reason remember seeing something like this a while back but I don't know if I'm just having created memories or if I actually saw it.
Thanks for any help
Yea there is some company that tried to market it to OEMs for gingerbread a while back I believe. I haven't seen much recently on this accept that the ipad has a hack for jail-broken devices that allows this feature, so considering the floating apps android already supports and androids superior multitasking it should be possible if some really awesome devs work it into a ROM of find an incredible mod for stock ROMSs. This has always interested me so hopefully we can find how possible it is and maybe someone could get it done.
Edit;
Found the article on this, not as old as I thought, but it is still on an older version of Android.

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping it was already implemented somewhere. Maybe we will see it in the future of this device
There is an app for this?

Aw =( it says it isn't Compatible with my device. Maybe it has to do with my DPI setting
Edit: No go. Would have loved it if it did work. I'll message the dev

same here mate(uk)
Yea, I have the overscreen browser and aircalc calculator, I had to sideload the browser from my transformer though as the nexus is unsupported. But I would still like to see a mod or ROM that allows this for all apps, much like this mod for the ipad.

Sorry... I swear it was public when I was done uploading...
Hopefully it is fixed now.
Thanks a lot for this interesting video!
You mentioned 'Instant Messaging' around 15:30. Can I use it to connect to a jabber/xmpp server?

You're welcome.
It is available for Ubuntu Desktop... I've just tried searching for jabber on the phone and returned no useful results. Maybe check with the developers of the IM you are currently using to see if they are going to release a version.
Pity.
Yes, I already made a feature request for an Ubuntu Touch version. Hope they will consider. To me jabber/xmpp is essential.
does somebody know, when exactly tommorow the build will be released and where to download it?

I'm sure it's going to be a media event... As for where you can download it, from Canonical's servers, of course.
LOL no advance word leaked that I can find. I'll wait for tomorrow. Maybe I'll get it as an OTA.
  nice

I believe Telepathy is being used for the SMS, which means that it just needs the plugins to support different protocols and a UI to manage it.
Looks great, tried to put it on my Nexus 4 and failed.

Did you follow the Wiki?
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Install
Are you using a dedicated Ubuntu Box or a Virtual one? Or are you flashing from recovery?
What version of UT were you attempting?
Details might help us figure out what you need to make it work.

Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll compare the 2 options for root they both seem pretty unpleasant. I thought Android development had gone further with this device.
