I've got an old LS997 which was my daily driver a few years ago on Sprint. Not anymore and now our new plan is under T mobile. I flashed the LS997 version of /e/OS to it (a de-googled version of LineageOS) and it seems to work fine, except poor reception compared to my newer Pixel 4A (which has newer LTE and NR-NSA modem and maybe better SNR? not sure...)
Importantly, call and SMS do not work. It would be cool if these could be made to work so this phone could be used as a backup. T-mobile does not give their blessing, they claim it is not supported. Why is it so? LTE is GSM technology, and LTE data works as well as it did when it was sprint years ago, shouldn't SMS and calling work over VoLTE? and hell if T mobile adopted Sprint's network, they should have kept support for CDMA in addition to GSM phones to maximize the number of supported devices and minimize barriers to Sprint customers when said customers transition over from team yellow to magenta.
I played with the following settings:
* configuring the APN as per the official guide.
* tried a few random selections under "preferred network type" currently have the most inclusive option selected. (NR/LTE/TDSCDMA/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA
* CDMA Subscription selection, tried both RUIM/SIM and NV
I suspect it simply will not work because it is in fact an LS997, and does not support the bands and technology the T-Mobile network uses. Since they are GSM and Sprint was CDMA, and my vague non-technical understanding is that Sprint used some bodgy CMDA bull**** for voice and SMS and GSM technology for data. though that would explain why mobile network state is disconnected and mobile voice network type is unknown, while mobile data network type is LTE and works fine.
Dumb question, what would happen if I were to do the forbidden thing: flash US996 bootloader and ROM to this device? or deliberately overwrite the radio.img? Something about there not being KYZ files for the LS997 variant means no going back but hey Sprint doesn't exist anymore so who cares. Worst case my almost useless phone would be bricked, though I do sometimes use it on the side as a sort of tablet and to record videos so it would be ashame to completely destroy it, but seeing the phone can be had well under $100... meh.
Is it possible to do this acknologing there is probably no turning back and also there is a good chance of hard bricking?

I was wondering if I could use my unlocked 8525 with Verizon's net work if I switched to them? I'm not sure about compatability of the phone with Verizon's voice and data services and was wondering if anyone knew.

I dont think so. Att and verizon use two different technologies. Att uses GSM and Verizon uses CDMA. Im almost certain tho a phone that is based on GSM cannot be used on a CDMA network. The phone will work on TMobile or USCellular. They use a GSM based technology. Verizon Sprint and Nextel all use CDMA. If i am wrong and you can use the GSM based phone with Verizon CDMA then someone please correct me. But i am pretty certain you cannot.

Not that I've ever seen.
I know sprint phones have sim card slots, but they are not used, at least in the USA.
My guess is that CDMA phones can be used in the same way as GSM phones as far as switching sims to use different carriers, but the CDMA carriers in the 'states don't use that functionality (probably to keep a tighter grip on their sucke....customers and wring more money from them through phone sales/upgrades and extra services, like a data service to put on extra ring tones )

CDMA and GSM phones are totally different. The only SIM based verizon phone that Ive seen its the Blackberry 8300 its world edition soo it can bu used through a cdma and also a GSM carrier. I would be interested if anyone knows how to say make a sprint phone capable of being on verizons network. That would be something different.
actually a sprint phone is capable of being used on verison network any cdma phone is. in short the way cdma works the subscriber info is assigned to the phone's esn by the carrier so only the carrier can change your phone with gsm the sim (Subscriber Identity Module) holds the subscriber info and it is assigned to a sim card id not a esn (electronic serial number) so all you have to do to get a sprint phone to work for verizon is get verizon to let it (GOOD LUCK WITH THAT) you would have better luck the other way around verizon is the pickiest co out there when it comes to network integrity and security issues they seem to think that letting people use any phone they want could somehow hurt their network

WCDMA is 3G. 3G on GSM systems is essentially a CDMA standard, but not the same CDMA as Verizon uses. It is not compatible.

Hey everyone i live in the us and i wanted to know if the boost network is good and i know they have unlimited internet so i'm planning to get one but i want to know if it can work in my unlocked Hd-2?
I haven't looked at Boost much, but believe they are CDMA/iDEN as they a wholy owned by Sprint/Nextel here in the US.
I am not positive if Boost can be manually configured to run on your unlocked device but I can tell you that I have an unlocked GSM t-mobile wing and just for fun, with a current Boost chip from the iDen phones, I was unable to use the network wizard to automatically configure because of the lack of network settings for boost. Again, as SinisterJunkie pointed out, even with the proper settings, it is a completely different network and I believe it would be difficult to say the least.

As mentioned above, the only phones that are compatible with Nextel's iDEN network are Nextel phones and Boost Mobile phones and Southern Linc. Pretty much everything else is either CDMA or GSM and are not compatible. So the HD2 is not compatible with Nextel network since the device itself should have been designed to support iDEN network. There are also no touch screens that are compatible with Nextel as far as I know (I haven't been around their webpage for a long time). The only PDA's that I recall are compatible, are several Blackberrys and these are all branded Nextel (see Nextel's webpage).

I've been a lurker of this site for a little while now, so thank you all for your productivity and guides (If I can get this to work, I will create a guide myself to share ) I recently purchased a Brand New Sprint Galaxy S5 (SM-G900P) with the hopes of unlocking it and using it on Straight Talk AT&T's network. I've made incredible progress so far, but I feel like I'm missing something. Up to this point I've spent countless hours online reading about this device and troubleshooting it.
Current Issue: Phone will not contact any GSM network. I have the sim card in and it just says no service. I know this is only on GSM networks because I disabled all CDMA bands using DFS. All AT&T bands are active and I believe the Galaxy S5 supports almost every band available. APN Settings are set correctly.
Things I have done / tried:
Using Cyanogenmod13 KLTE ROM, Cyanogenmod12.1 SPR ROM, Unofficial CM13 SPR ROM. Also, tried using a "stock?" 4.4.4 ROM that was a little glitchy, but worked nonetheless (tried using SSU.apk here, but afterwards it seemed to sim-lock my phone by giving "Invalid SIM"
Phone unlocked with IDoneApps (no more invalid sim) IDoneApps says its for International and Domestic.
I paid for a Network Access Code and registered the phone with Straight Talk and attempted to transfer the service over (not sure if this is necessary as I am using a GSM SIM, which still works fine in my other phone, perfect service)
Also, on the stock ROM it keeps trying to "Activate the device" and won't be able to. Sometimes the phone goes into roaming and when I call it sends me to Verizon Wireless Customer Service (not sure why on this)
Phone will receive service fine when set to Automatic or CDMA LTE. If I attempt to call a phone I will get "Your account is not authorized to make calls to this phone number" with a mans voice.
-Do I need to do something with Sprint to go forward?
SOLVED IT:
Had to enable the "GCF Setting" on the phone.
YouTube Video: "How to enbale GFC settings on any Samsung Galaxy " - This guide worked flawlessly.
Now all I need to do in order to have perfect service on this SM-G900P on AT&T is to enable the rest of the AT&T LTE Bands on it.

I'm in the same situation as this post right now...I have have a SM-G900P (Sprint Galaxy S5), now activated through Straight Talk, but my data doesn't work when using CM13. I was wondering more what you mean by your GCF settings and maybe some quick tips to get 4G/LTE while on CM (Preferably 13+). Stock Rom I get LTE just fine, but for some reason it gives me this *FUGLY* Creedo mvno app suite when I do a fresh restore of stock rom, and just the whole touchwhiz thing sucks in general. I'd much prefer CM or any other custom ROM that cuts out the BS but gives me data.

no worries about necro'ing a thread, im not sure why some folks get bent out of shape about it :/ anyways, what service provider are you using via straight talk? they use all of the major 4 (vzw, at&t, tmob and sprint)
the basic answer to your question is APN settings. did you ever have data working with str8 talk? if so, your gcf settings dont need to be fiddled with, if not, then you have some tinkering to do. not at all difficult really, just some button presses

Well, the only band that identifies when I actually have a working data connection (tops I get is 3G) says Sprint. So I think that's who they're routing me through. I'm not a total rookie when it comes to this, but I don't know how to change the radio bands outside of what apps like Radio Switcher do (which actually just gives me a short cut to quasi-service mode settings in CM).
I get the cell data to read LTE on stock, but it's gross touchwiz and it never seems to get GOOD signal, two bars of LTE was the most in Milwuakee suburbs, an area I'd assume would be swimming in 4G/LTE. I'd much rather use CM for the customization (or any more "purer" android ROMS). If I select CMDA auto PRL I get a solid 3G and all voice/text/data services work. But any other option that includes LTE drops my data entirely.
Edit: I just realized I repeated myself lol. I've made a few posts on various forums about this. Kind of forgotten what info I've provided where. Sorry for the redundancy.

i dont have any experience with the sprint flavor of straight talk service, but it should be on the same LTE bands as normal sprint. shouldnt have to monkey with anything tho. ill have to look more when i get home

Ok, I reread your op and it said that you're using at&t. Are you sim unlocked? If not, Mr @stifilz, do you think you could hook this guy up? He has a proven track record of unlocking S5s
Just a heads up I'm not OP, that's @aventurer. I just happened to find a very similar situation. Probably changes your train of thought but for what it's worth in my situation, the phone sim came from Sprint originally, and the Straight Talk people said they use that sim to connect to the LTE bands.
Hello, a quick question.
I am trying to enable volte on Proximus, a Belgian network. I installed a rom that supports VOLTE, Alexndr's rom with PHN CSC.
But I don't see the volte option in Network Additional Settings. Am i missing something? Is there a way to force activate it?
Also, my provider says that they have enabled it only for the s7 for the moment. How can a network recognise a phone type? Via IMEI? And how can I make my phone pass from a g935f?

Many providers aren’t enabling advanced LTE options on older devices due to the hardware they use vs the stuff in the newer phones (such as the S7). That’s one of the downfalls of LTE (Long Term Evolution) or any aging cell technology really. If your Belgian carrier is only supporting the transceiver tech on the S7 and beyond, then youre kinda boned unless they dump a ton of money into upgrading their towers. We have the same issue here in the states with some carriers. Sounds like youre out of luck.
And yes, that’s even if your ROM supports VOLTE since the issue is hardware related

Yeah the one I been using the past month only worked with GSM sims. I been using a T-Mobile sim
It does "work" for LTE and data. You will have issues with voice calls though since VOLTE is packaged as part of Verizon's Advanced calling. If you HAVE to use it, set up a google voice or SIP account to forward to your Verizon number. That being said, wait for the CDMA version to be available to have full functionality.
