OnePlus 8T KB2003 OOS12 Hearing Protection Issue and Fix - OnePlus 8T Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello everyone,
Recently i was using my OnePlus 8T KB2003 with KB2005(Global) Firmware and i decided to install KB2003(EU) Firmware when its released but as i see OnePlus decided to add "Hearing Protection" mode into Dolby Atmos on European Firmware.
If you wonder what it does let me try to explain;
Lets think that you are listening a music with much bass and volume level is set to about 75% but when bass part hits system automaticly decreases volume so much but not the volume level that was set about 75%. After bass part ends volume gets back to normal and usually it takes time about 5 seconds so volume level goes up and down to "Protect" your ears and thats really annoying to listen music with that.
Here is what i found when i compare between KB2005(Global) and KB2003(EU) Firmware;

Here is solutions i found;
1) If you want to keep KB2003 (EU) ROM;
A) If you are unrooted or not unlocked your bootloader you really dont have any chance to get this fixed unless OnePlus fixes it.
But there is a way that makes music "listenable", you can choose any of the Envoriment Profiles or Movie from Scenario-Specific profiles (Which i recommend). These makes music a bit less bassy but thats the only chance if you are unrooted.
B) If you have unlocked your bootloader then you can flash KB2005's ODM partition to bypass this issue. Firstly download that zip and unpack it to any folder on your pc and manually open fastboot mode on your phone and connect usb cable to pc Then run FastbootEnhance.exe tool and select your phone from there. After that click partitions tab and type odm to filter by name box. Select odm_a or odm_b (select the one which is visible to you) and select flash on the right side of the screen, select yes on warning and choose ODM.img on the folder you extracted. Wait until it flashes and then reboot to system. Thats All.
1) If you dont want to keep KB2003 (EU) ROM;
A) You can install KB2005 (Global) Rom and use it without any issues, but as OPlus (Oppo and OnePlus) blocked switching between EU to Global rom you can simply follow the Rollback guide that is shared here to downgrade to Android 11 (This will wipe your data) and then upgrade to Global Android 12 rom directly from Android 11.
I Hope OnePlus removes that Hearing Protection thing on EU Rom.

I remember, that hearing protection is also implemented in OOS11 EU by limiting max volume, but i didn't experience such a behaviour on OOS11, as you described on OOS12.

Is it possible to edit the file directly?
I'm still on OOS11 and want to have a look at the file if it's the same there.

OOS11 has a differnt version of Dolby Atmos. Hearing protection isn't present or at least is not enabled.
This is some ColorOS stuff

niga??? You do not mistake or may be lost?
In General, I tried to install flyme rom with gapps and without gapps, error 7, 20. Did a wipe (data, dalvik, cache, system) flashed again the error, I decided to reboot. A miracle happens, the phone boots into CWM-based Recovery and now all sewn up. When you first start (setup) for a long time hung about 8-10 minutes on the splash screen flyme. So You'll have to try.
I have flashed form stock rom to flymeos using latest twrp recovery but you should wipe all except internal SD?

[GUIDE] Android 9 Pie AOSP phh-treble ROM

The purpose of this thread is to describe treble ROM installation process for Mi Max 3 with specific detail for AOSP phh-treble, for a user to be able to get all required instructions in one place.
What does not work (everything else is supposed to be working):
VoLTE (did not have a chance to verify, reported for other GSI ROMs)
Stock camera does not auto-rotate photos (use third party camera)
Equalizer (MusicFX)
Disclaimer: Everything you do is your own risk. GSI is ARB-agnostic, since it does not contain firmware.
Prerequisites:
Bootloader unlocked
Data backed up (factory reset is required in the process). NB: if you had screen locked while backing up with recovery, this guide to reset the lock may be helpful some day in the future
TWRP 3.2.3 (other recoveries may work as well) installed
Xiaomi.eu Android Pie ROM installed
Note:Xiaomi.eu with Android Pie is required.
Skills required:
TWRP - flash zip files
Archive tool (like ZArchiver, to unpack XZ system image)
Steps:
Choose and download the "arm64-aonly" system image - with or without root and gapps. I used system-arm64-aonly-vanilla-nosu.img.xz from phh-treble releases page
Decompress system image using archiver tool, we need .img to flash
Download opengapps x64 nano or pico for Android Pie (this step is for vanilla system)
Download phh-treble-pie-fixes-minimal.zip for Bluetooth, camera2 and vendor fingerprint (the file is attached to FP)
Make sure your data is backed up
Make sure Xiaomi.eu ROM is already installed, or reinstall using respective instructions
Reboot to recovery
Install - select image type - select phh-treble .img file - select system partition - install
Install - select zip type - select opengapps archive - install (for vanilla image, this is not needed for image with pre-baked gapps)
Install - (make sure /vendor is mounted) select zip type - select phh-treble-pie-fixes-minimal.zip from this post below (to fix brightness, camera2 api and bluetooth)
Factory reset, note: google setup needs gapps-su build or you can dirty flash (restore /data from backup)
Reboot system, fingers crossed for several minutes. If the system does not boot for 2 minutes, you probably did not perform some step correctly
bonus material: one can re-arrange soft buttons following instructions from this post https://www.xda-developers.com/how-...icons-or-re-arrange-the-buttons-without-root/
bonus material: one can adjust auto brightness by issuing "settings put system screen_auto_brightness_adj 0.4" via ADB shell, where 0.4 is any value between -1 and 1
Note: to completely unroot, execute /system/bin/phh-securize.sh via adb root shell
Thank you!
So if I have Xiaomi.eu stable and go back to beta 8.10.25 (with ARB activated) I will be able to install this AOSP ROM ?
Before MI MAX 3 I got a OP3 so ARB is my nightmare.
I am dreaming of AOSP ROM installed. Is much better than that MIUI.

Yes, you can. Treble roms can be installed on ARB and NON-ARB roms.
Battery life looks decent so far

Tried both phh-treble 8.1 and 9.0. GSI roms can be flashed one over another (factory reset may still be required for downgrade 9->8.1)

Hi @galev_90, it's stable with known issues - bluetooth and brightness need a fix described in the first post. MTP (usb file transfer) does not work (the patch may exist, did not try any), volte - probably does not work.
To get more specific instructions, one needs to explain what is not clear from what is already described. It may be helpful to read phh-treble thread by phhusson as well.

Instruction updated for latest Xiaomiu.eu baseline. MTP is fixed in 8.11.29 vendor.

Edit: nevermind - found it in the OP: phh-treble-pie-fixes.zip - fixes auto brightness and bluetooth

To flash this ROM, you already know that you have to unlock the bootloader. I think it has been unlocked
the way to install this custom ROM is not difficult so it doesn't bootlop this way
What is certain is there must be a PC. Xiaomi mi a2 must be in fastboot mode, connect to PC, open the folder (mininal adb and fastboot) in C program copy twrp to the folder open cmd type command?
fastboot devices and enter (fastboot boot twrp.img)
and enter wait a moment. If you have entered TWRP, don't unplug the cable, copy the TWRP img file. to Mi A2 touch install select img, then there will be a menu option swipe down select (recovery ramdisk)
when it's finished, touch reboot, select reboot recovery, if it says the OS is not installed, just ignore it and start again to twrp recovery
tap wipe format data type (yes) and select advanced wipe dalvik / cache / data / system.
touch the reboot menu select the slot from B to A. repeat again (wipe)
When finished, touch the reboot menu, select the slot again, move to B and reboot recovery, if it says the OS is not installed, just ignore it.
If you have entered recovery again, copy the custom rom pixel experience file to mi a2 from the PC. well, we just installed it and swipe the rom, wait for it to be done and reboot the system, don't panic, when it reboots, it will return to recovery, touch reboot, select slot A, then select system
as usual just ignore it if it says OS is not installed , okay just slide it . wait if successful only 1 minute less boot flashes
Please share where you got those builds from. I hope people do not want to install random files on their phones...
Did you build the ROM yourself from sources? Did you leak some private test build? ... Give some info, so people can verify the source.
The same with the TWRP img. Where is it from? What version is it? Who built it? Is there some special reason to not just use the most actual, official one (yes it gets stuck)?
I installed mi rom for xiaomi mi A2 ( jasmine_sprout ) not for random device, . All sources are on YouTube and Google. .

Basically the problem is, how does a person that install this know that there are no hidden viruses in those files?
Is there proof that a trusted developer created them? Did you create them? Did the person on the youtube video create them? ...?

S20/S20+/Ultra - GUIDE: Remove Bootloader Unlocked Warnings Etc

I removed the bootloader warning on my S20+ and attached the .tar file you need to flash in the AP slot. Also wrote a quick guide how to do it yourself for other models or to personalize it.
I found a guide, original credit to this youtube video.
As a result I personally modifed several files in photoshop to remove all the bootloader unlocked warnings, etc, and also to remove all non-english text on the download screen, etc.
All you need to do if you have my exact phone is to
0. Make sure you have SM-G985F/DS (S20+) phone ONLY. Otherwise, skip to create your own assets or see if another user added your phone into this thread.
I. Boot into DL mode (either boot into TWRP and click download, or turn off phone and turn it on and hold VolUP+Power until it goes to recovery, or VolDn+Power and insert USB)
II. flash the file attached, up_param.tar that I have attached, under the AP tab in Odin. Yes, AP NOT BL!!
Success!
It might seem like boot is longer, but it's the same time, it's just now 3 separate screens are all the same one instead of extra screens with errors.

ABOUT THE MOD:
Changed this to just black, thus removing it:
Changed these 3 screens to the one after it (and positioned them perfectly):
Also changed some other ones by removing things like WARNING! and non-english text.
e.g.
In case you want to do it for other phones, I don't know if it's the same assets so I would NOT recommend to flash my exact file, but rather create your own using my assets I attached that I created. Open the original file in photoshop and you can do whatever you want to it.
To modify other phones, you need:
A. 7-zip Z-std (ZS) version (regular 7-zip doesn't work)
B. Odin (attached, or find it on XDA)
C. (Optional) Photoshop or photo editor app
HOW TO MODIFY OTHER PHONES ASSETS:
1. First extract up_param.lz4 using 7-zip ZS.
2. Now extract up_param.bin to its own folder.
3. Modify the assets however you like. You can personalize literally however you like, modify these pictures in any way and you get your own boot screens.
4. Open up_param.bin using 7-zip ZS FM (open and choose default as 7-Zip ZS FM, navigate to it),
5. Drag and drop your modified files into up_param.bin
6. Right-click and choose 7-zip ZS > Add to archive
7. Choose a tar archive and click OK
Then just do the first steps I & II at the top of this post to finish the flash.
Hope it helps!
Please add that it is only for Exynos version. On snapdragon it will not work

Not quite. It will work on Chinese variant that can unlock bootloader and anything that can unlock bootloader.
WILL NOT WORK ON US/CA DEVICES, DON'T TRY! (Bootloader will likely never be unlocked on those devices.)
Only use this if you have unlocked bootloader/rooted.
Use common sense.
Hope it helps.
p.s. I have an exynos version for the root. I'd rather have 8gb ram and unlocked bootloader than US locked bootloader trash with 12gb ram. That said I'd rather have a 5+ year old device than to not be able to unlock the bootloader/root.
Later I'm going to modify these screens with a dimmer version. I always hate rebooting my phone at night with that ultra bright glaring logo.

Well, I have EUR version of Z Flip 3 with snapdragon, rooted and with unblocked bootloader. Simply this way is ONLY valid for Samsung Exynos chipset and not for SNAPDRAGON. There is no up_param in Snapdragon.
