Where are the "Real life review" forums? - OPPO Find X5 Pro General

Why is there no real life review forum for this phone?
Always interested to see battery comparison, photos taken by other users etc

Keep an eye out on the general section that's what the OPPO ambassadors will be doing when we all release are full reviews

There is a good comparison image posted by @carburano here. I found the game to be quite interesting I was kind of hoping for more images! Check it out!
OPPO Ambassador from Italy! Let's rock the Find X5! UNBOXING LIVE! (REVIEW SOON)
Hi all! My name is Francesco, the only OPPO Ambassador from Italy :) As an ambassador I cannot wait to put my hands on OPPOFind X5. What do i expect? Well, certainly a confirmation of the excellent work already done by OPPO in the last years...
forum.xda-developers.com

Not really interested in comparisons by oppo embassadors, I was wondering about real owners of the phone and what they are getting day to day battery wise so I can compare it with my own, exchange tips to improve it,etc.
Has XDA stopped creating "real life review" subforums for new devices being added?

You can be sure, my review will be honest. If you ask me i can assure that Color OS at the moment is not my favourite UI because it has Memory management limitations and some multitasking issues. Also notification menu is a little bugged. Also i have some critics about Find X5 price range.
Normally i use phones for 1 month before reviewing it. At the moment you can simply check my thread for photos against pixel 6 pro (same price range) and S22 Ultra (maybe a little unfair for Find X5 not pro)
BTW if you have questions please ask. We are simply lucky users and we are on your side

@carburano I am not doubting that you are going to review the phone and post your genuine findings, but as I mentioned, I am not really looking for one persons opinion. I am just confused as to why XDA stopped creating the Real Life Review subforums for new devices. That's all.
I guess I can still post a thread discussing battery life, and another one to compare images taken etc etc.
The bottom line is that I want input and opinions from real users who have paid their hard earned money for the phone.

Videos too. I have been trying to understand what their highlighted features mean in terms of user experience and if this is what makes the phone more expensive.
I haven't seen an example of real life review forums. When/Where did you last see one?

Huawei P40 Pro
The Huawei P40 Pro is a 6.58" phone with a 2640x1200p resolution display. The HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G chipset is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage. The main camera is 50+40+12MP and the selfie camera is 32MP. The battery has a 4,200mAh capacity.

OnePlus 7 Pro
The OnePlus 7 Pro is a 6.67" device with a 1440x3120p resolution display. The Snapdragon 855 chipset is paired with 6/8/12GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage. The main camera is 48+16+8MP and the selfie camera is 16MP. The battery has a 4000mAh capacity.
forum.xda-developers.com
These are the last 2 devices I have owned and they both had real life review forums on XDA.

Interesting, but I guess the real-life user reviews is up to the Forum members to commence accordingly, and for XDA to professionally host.
But there are 20 OPPO Product Ambassadors (10 with the X5 Pro and 10 with the X5 (I'm one of the latter)) and we've been asked to use the devices as our daily drivers, and to conduct our own reviews.
Speaking for myself, I consider myself a real user, and will be using my experiences from the X3 Pro, as comparison from the last 12 months.
Yes, the X5 was provided to me by OPPO, but it was also a logical choice for me to have purchased, to update from the X3 Pro (yeah I know the X5 is not the Pro, but all will be revealed in my post), and I curious as to how it performs.
I'm not as technically precise or knowledgeable as a lot of others, and I'm not a professional photographer, just a curious person who works for a Not for Profit Organisation, who enjoys taking photos for posting on Instagram and posting tech stuff on twitter.
But there are twenty real world reviews about to hit XDA.
BTW, the #OPPOFindX5Series doesn't launch in Australia until April 19th.
Hope this helps.

The ambassadors are real owners of the phone - most were chosen for being people just like you, users of XDA - the fact someone has spent money on the device doesn't make their opinions any less relevant.
Are you going to start separating out those that get the phone 'free' on contract to those that buy it outright too?

Ok fair enough, will be interested to see the reviews. I have already bought the phone and was wondering if I should return it during the 14 day period because the battery isn't anywhere near my Huawei p40 pro.
But I guess that is just because the Huawei had hacked GMS and it had very aggressive battery management.
Your argument about getting a phone "free" on contract is invalid because I am still paying more than the RRP of the phone over the 2 year contract.

Sir, this is affirmative. All new device fora (i.e. since the website's transition to Xenforo) are "just" one forum with no sections/sub-fora but prefixes for thread titles and filtering.
This forum "OPPO Find X5 Pro" is the one and only exception from above policy.

Yes but you were comparing it to getting it free from oppo in exchange for a review.
Having not paid your own money I'd say you'd be inclined to let some things slide would you not (consciously or unconsciously).

It can be also generalised that people who purchase a device will also subconsciously defend their purchase and therefore their review may not also be as "real" as it perhaps could have been.

If the battery optimization is based on the learned events of your SOT and use, 2 weeks won't be enough time to establish a trend, though ideally it should capture your use over 4 charging cycles.
Battery reviews like this will highlight charging power because obviously it's coming with new technology. While Find X5 is not in this list yet, your best bet is reviewing it based on the features they're highlighting.

So, I see this post today:
http://www.cn-c114.net/578/a858488.html
It was a little frustrating in that the article didn't list the site where the device is being sold through. If anyone knows, update this post, please.
Oh, and this was part the article outlining the perks of the higher end model:
"The high-end version of Mate7 is of amber golden and adopts a combination of 3G RAM and 32G ROM, it is also equipped with the exclusive Huawei gold membership privilege services card, the value-added services include exclusive service hotline, a boot gift bag of Huawei mobile phone application market, free of charge to use a 160G online storage in 2 years, this phone was formally on sale in Huawei mall on September 12th."
Found these two as I was browsing. The first is an actual preview, the second is just a comparison between AM7 and iPhone 6 plus.

I don't get why the press is comparing the iPhone 6 and the Huawei devices. I know, the i(insertnamehereproducttheyreallthesame) are what the fanbois are buying, but the two aren't even in the same category. I just don't get the comparison.
thank you for posting the comparison though, interesting to read nonetheless.

It does serve one purpose. To show how horribly designed the iPhone 6 'Plus' is. Look at those ridiculous top and bottom bezels. You would think that since Apple prides itself on having 'premium' designs for their products, they would have figured out a way to make a 5.5" phone smaller than a 6" phone. Hell, even the Note 3/4 is smaller than the iPhone 6 Plus, and they both have larger screens.
But what can you do, right. The lines will be around the block for it. The revolution has begun.
This one is kinda weak...
Not a very thorough review by any standards, but still, it highlights the very decent performance of the AM7. The pic at the top of the article doesn't match the AM7 though. I guess they just used a stock Huawei pic.

It's the same review site, but I don't think that video was made until at least a week after the written review was posted. The date on the written review is the 12th (the same date it was posted here in this thread), and the video review wasn't posted until the 18th. But I may be wrong.

Recombu
Found another one, this time from Recombu (never heard of it before). But once again, seems like the Mate 7 is getting decent reviews.

This is only an initial review, but it confirms that the phone gets LTE on T-mobile. Great news.
http://www.zdnet.com/huawei-ascend-...inum-design-and-solid-performance-7000034132/
This isn't related to the AM7, but it is pretty good advice as to why you might want to think about waiting before getting the first production releases available:

http://www.gizmochina.com/2014/09/27/huawei-mate7-vs-iphone5s-camera-shot-comparison/
This might be a deal breaker, as I use my note 3 which is not great but good enough for instagram etc... this noise is pretty bad though. Probably software related but how long for an update?
One more from Android Central.

Here's the final review from Android Headlines.
http://www.androidheadlines.com/2014/10/review-huawei-ascend-mate-7.html
In it, he reiterates that the Ascend Mate 7 gets LTE on T-mobile. Unfortunately, he says nothing about speeds, but when I get home I'll ask him in the comments.

I didn't know that, and didn't want to know that, because I don't care about mid-range phones with small screens. If you want to ask about another phone, be that V8 or something else - post your own question as a separate thread. There is no need to hijack this thread to talk about another device, my thread was not meant for.

Honor 8 is not "flagship", from any angle you look at it. It is classified as a mid-ranger on most tech blogs out there, and rightfully so. It doesnt crack the top 10 phones in any specs category. Since Huawei Honor Note 8 forum does not exist as of the moment of writing - I think it's reasonably appropriate to post a question about it here. If moderators decide later on it does not belong - it could be moved to Honor Note 8 forum, once created.

That is literally, the most ridiculous, outrageous and lunatic assertion I've heard anyone make on XDA in the past decade. I wouldn't even know where to begin to tell you how very very very very wrong you are!
If you don't get a meaning of "flagship device" - go read some Wikipedia or dictionary definition, I guess.
According to your logic, most real high end devices from a country like China, for example LeEco phones, which have 4-6GB RAM, latest Snapdragon chip (820 or 821), or phones from Xiaomi with similar specs, which never cost $600 or more for reasons, obvious to everyone but you, are mid-rangers? And ****ty devices with 5 year old specs, with either Georgio Armani logo on them, or made out of gold, or covered in 38 carats of diamonds, which cost anywhere from 10 grand to 150k, are flagships?!
Wow... Don't embarrass yourself in public, do some reading and self-education, learn about different economies, price inflations, developing world markets, etc. before making comments like that. Phone price has literally ZERO impact in determining, whether the device is flagship or not. It is true, that in many markets the opposite is correct - device, which is a flagship, is priced higher, than other devices from the same region. However, there is absolutely no connection/correlation whatsoever in the opposite direction - device's price does NOT have any impact on it's classification as high-end, low-end, mir-ranger or a flagship device.

And it costs half the price of other flagships, too... 5.3 million pre-orders can't be wrong - people know what they're investing in. Kirin955 chip is in the top 3 of all benchmark categories amongst all latest chips, and this is the only device in the world with 2k screen, which is bigger than 6.5". 4500mAh battery doesn't hurt either - you will find such battery size in less than a handful of devices worldwide.

Congrats, and that's an excellent question! To answer it, hopefully admins here will create a forum for this phone, where devs and users could post verified rooting method. This article offers a rooting method, but it's unverified by anyone I know or XDA, so if you wanna try it - do it at your own risk and report the results back here.
Since this is related to the phone in topic...

The differences from the one in gsmarena are the colors, front camera, and 4400mAh battery.
Also, can somebody upload somewhere photos taken by their own Huawei Honor Note 8's camera? Unmodified, straight from the camera, with EXIF please. Hopefully with variations like bright scene, dark scene, etc.
Thank you very much.
KingRoot doesn't work as not enough requests for root yet on this model.
An issue I am having if anyone can help is with Play Store. When installing a large application, PS always closes before its finished downloading. Smaller ones are fine. I've disabled the power saving options for PS etc.. Its a weird one and I don't have this problem with my other Huawei.

[General] A few questions/simple discussion.

I passed by the "Win an Honor 8" thing quite the few times and had recognized the name from somewhere. I don't have any luck when it comes to raffles and I have no income currently to get one myself so I wanted to ask some things in the forums here. (I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to talk about it.)
I saw that there was some major hype around the Honor5X/8(?) and I wonder what the main selling point for this is. Is it strong in any particular field such as performance, reliability, or photography? Thank you for putting up with my silly questions
Broad question. The appeal of the Honor 8, at least as far as I understand it, is good performance for a low price.
hey group
hey you guys im new to this forum im actually participating in the chance to win the honor 8. it looks like it will be a major player in the months to come. im currently using an oppo find 7 qhd display and ive had it for at least 2 years now. although i do not want to change phones since im so use to this one i would still purchase this phone and use it as my business daily phone
As far as Honor 5X is concerned, it targets the budgeted segment who expects metallic feel with Fingerprint sensor at the price point of 200$.
Honor 8 targets the photography part and its glass layered design. You can see the Saffire blue model for its attractiveness.
As far as all Honor Mobiles are concerned, 2 years software update is guaranteed unless there is any hard restriction such as Carrier support (or) Hardware support.

I looked into the Honor series a bit and I'm either considering the Honor 8 or the Moto Z Play right now to change from my Nexus 5. I will however miss the unlimited cloud storage for video and pictures. But frankly 16GB (12 usable) is way too little storage space nowadays and having to carry a charger at all times is dragging me down (by the pants at least) so I really need to upgrade. But thank you all for the discussion :3
Coming from CM as a daily driver I really dislike EMUI and it's a shame CM for the honor 8 doesn't work properly yet.
It's also been one of the main critiques of the Honor 8.
If you want it for gaming, don't. other than that, ignore benchmarks, day to day performance is fantastic which is the main reason why I got it.
The other one is the design.
Although the non gorilla glass back seems to be somewhat fragile according to some.
I also don't find it as slippery as most reviewers claim.
So yeah in short performance for the price is great.
For me personally it's an iPhone 6 for half the price and without iOS. So a great deal.

Mi Mix EVO with Snapdragon 835 leaked on Geekbench

Looks like there is a higher-end variant of the Mi Mix in the horizon called the Mi Mix Evo. Leaked Geekbench screenshot shows Snapdragon 835 and 4GB of RAM.
I wonder whether it will have a better camera sensor.
I'm not worried about the Snapdragon 835. I knew there were many new devices from Samsung, LG and the like with better specs than the Mix, coming out soon.
I expected the Mix to be a "one of a kind" device for a while, like how the Xperia Z Ultra was, at one point of time.
If the rumors pan out to be true, the fact that it may change that, is a bit disappointing I guess.
Moreover, judging from Xiaomi's history with previous devices, it doesn't look like we may see a lot of development for the device. Add to the fact, a very small community of us here and an even smaller community of users at the MIUI forums.
Does anyone regret buying the Mix, considering the Mix Evo would be sold at a similar price?

No regrets
@vergilbt I agree..
Not at all.
Sent from my MIghty Mix.
This would be cool if it has something other than a ceramic or glass body.
It'd be refreshing to have a ruggedized shell/display,no need for a case.
Otherwise, I don't have regrets.
Worldwide 2G/3G/4G/LTE support would be the main spec to consider trading up.
An I-R Blaster & wireless charging would seal the deal.
There's a lot of nice phones hitting the market soon, most of us here will be experiencing some measure of buyers remorse, especially if you're strictly a one-phone-at-a-time user.
HTC's latest U Series devices look nice. The Ultra is tempting (for me),but, I'm passing.
Besides, they will likely introduce yet another flagship @ MWC.Ditto with Huawei (P10), Samsung & LG.
It's a vicious nonstop cycle that's a real Love/Hate experience for those of us who use little to no restraint in trying out virtually everything on the market. ?
With that said, I'm outta here for a bit,got a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro that just delivered & a Huawei Mate 9 delivering tomorrow.
An intervention is definitely in order,LOL......?

Do you sell off all your old devices or keep them? I buy mine outright and mostly keep them. When my cycle hit 6 months I had to grab myself by the neck and slow it down. Can't let this consumerism consume me

Most of my phone deals have been leases via T-Mobile's JumpOnDemand.
I've sold a few,not many,but, the trio of Xiaomi Mi MIX/Redmi Note 3 Pro/Huawei Mate 9 look to be long-term keepers,having buying them outright.
If I do need to thin the herd,I'll list 'em on Swappa,as other sites/private sales net only a fraction of their worth.

I have to admit that I'm pretty annoyed by this news. I literally just ordered this phone a day ago and they are already anouncing a better variant? Like I didn't have enough buyers regret already

I got a serious phone problem. I'm currently on the S7 which I have no complaints about but I always need something new. I always like MIUI though so hopefully I'll enjoy this phone and be content with it for a while.

Been chasing that same Android Unicorn for five or six years now, kinda made a New Years resolution to curb it a bit ,but,as you,not successful, two new phones this month alone, not counting the Mix..........
I rationalize my habit by telling myself "I could be doing worse things"............

My phone came with an unlocked bootloader.
As soon as I realized that, I installed TWRP,made a backup of whatever was on my phone & jumped to the EU ROM,switched seamlessly to GlobeROM (very similar).
I have most MIUI/Xiaomi apps disabled, using SD Maid Pro.
Using Nova Launcher Pro & MIUI Xposed,I believe there's a thread here somewhere with the links for the proper version of Xposed for MIUI 8.
If not, just ping me & I'll post/PM 'em to you.......
In photography we call that Gear Acquisition Syndrome (gas).
The way I fixed it is to use the older generation for a while. I had a pretty serious issue with phones before but was forced to use my original xperia z1 after g4 had bootloop issue.
Turns out the z1 is so lovable that I didn't even bother fixing the g4. I only got the mix since it's one of a kind phone.
The hardware upgrade is getting insignificant. Even with a 50% battery improvement on the mix, it wouldn't be that important since the original mix is already pretty damn good.

Got this device just a few weeks back. I knew there were next gen phones with next gen specs coming out around Feb- March, which didn't bother me much. I bought the Mix, knowing this is a unique device. If an upgraded version hits the market too soon,, it will significantly diminish the value of the Original Mix. Moreover, we may not see much in terms of development if the interest for this device goes down too soon. And considering Xiaomi isn't very good at releasing kernel sources, we may even be on Marshmallow for a long long time. And that kinda sucks, especially for people who don't switch phones too often!
Before people start getting too pissed off, bear in mind the sheer volume of fake rumours that surface in relation to Xiaomi handsets - probably more even than for Samsung or Apple.
There's already been the debunked news about the Mi Mix Nano, not to mention the rumoured SD821-toting Mi S that never materialised, the rumours about a Mi 5C that have so far come to naught and a lot of Mi Note 2 rumours that turned out to be incorrect.
For all we know, that's just a test unit for the SD835 Xiaomi are using that's been given some random name - or even a completely faked benchmark.

Good call all around. :good:
Most of the angst is tongue-in-cheek,most here know how the life cycle of the smartphone scene is in constant change.
Those truly upset would do better to find a hobby that's just as consuming, but, easier on the wallet,or,focus on finding the best in the low-to-midrange segment (Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro,OnePlus,etc.....)

Just hoping Xiaomi releases Kernel source for this device. As long as we see some real development for this device, I don't have any problems even if they bring one with Snapdragon 840.
The oneplus 3/3T has some really good ROMs, is based on the same chipset and if we have the source for the Mix, guess we can port a few ROMs. AOSP or CM anyone?

Nothing like forced perspective to appreciate the MIX:
1) Just finished setting up my Redmi Note3 Pro & while it's definitely a great device, arguably the best bang for the buck available,it can't hold a candle to the Mix.
2) Same with my Samsung Galaxy Note4,is still a great phone, but, even with its S-Pen/I-R Blaster/expandable storage & removable battery, I'd pick the MIX without any hesitation. The performance/display/battery life are outstanding, exceeding expectations big time.

Don't get me wrong, I completely get how frustrating it is to shell out for something and have it be superceded shortly after, even when you know it's likely to happen.
And should Xiaomi turn around and announce a superior Mi Mix a couple of months after I got mine, I'd be first in line to whine about it.
But having spent something like 10 months last year waiting for a phone I wanted to splash out on, I've come to realise just how low the wheat-to-chaff ratio is with Xiaomi rumours. So I'll hold off on complaining until I know for a fact what's happening

Each to their own, of course, but for me a huge part of the appeal of the Mi Mix is MIUI - any other ROM would feel like know was losing part of what makes the Mix so great.

Disappointing S20 Ultra

After nearly 2 months with the S20 Ultra 5G, i'm giving up on it. Coming from a Mate 20 Pro to the Samsung, i thought would be a great upgrade. Reading the specs etc, made for being a pretty good powerhouse for Photography.
After going through about 4 updates since receiving the phone, the Camera is simply not good enough. It's fantastic for outdoor shots, however, Focus hunting, and the lack of clarity when photographing text makes the S20 photos blurry, and frankly, looks crap. Even with video, focus hunting is ridiculous. Hugely disappointed considering the Mate 20 Pro produced better photos by comparison.
Add to this, the physical size of the phone. Something i thought i could live with, but its massive! The camera bump alone makes me way over cautions putting the phone down after reading reports of the camera glass cracking (even though i've added a protector). I shouldn't have to feel fear using a bloody phone, so its going the journey.
The point of this post is???
He had a thought, it must be shared. So ridiculous

Despite Samsungs updates, Camera is still not good enough. Especially for the price paid. Voicing my concerns same as everybody else.
Dont be ridicolous bro, your expecting way too much from a phone, if you like photography so much just a buy a decent camera...also the mate 20 takes better photos than the s20 ultra? I think you dont know what your talking about and very ignorant on this matter, kinda hard to satisfy people who have no idea what they are talking about...
The entire thread is pointless. It is not news, a guide or even a discussion.
If you are not satisfied then sell the phone, we do not need the negativity here.
