How to read game data/obb From SD Card on android 12 ? - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Questions & Answers

I remeber when i was young with Android Kitkat i'm using XinternalSD or FolderMount to make game data from SD Card Read as well by app itselt.
but now i'm on android 12, tried old trick but did't work.
is there any chance to make Data game from SDCard readable by the game on android 12?
For example: i have "Dead Trigger" this game from playstore have data called obb, so i move the obb file to my sd card and look app info "Dead Trigger" data size become "0MB"
when open app, game will ask to download data again, thats mean the app can't read obb/data from SDcard
so i use old method using Xposed + XinternalSD using old method i remember, still the app can't read data from SDCard.
use FolderMount by app called App2SD Pro, from playstore, still did't work.
then how to make Data/obb game readable from SDCard on android 12 is that possible?
sorry for bad english, and thanks for the answer.
Tools used:
Magisk Module LSposed Zgysk
Xposed Module XinternalSD
3rd app App2SD Pro

i also tried same thing even a module that claims to fix permissions 《Exsdcard》 yet no luck it costed me losing root ..had to flash it again..but sum says it works on android 8~10
my only hope now is to create a partition on the sd card with app2sd but m not sure how

Try getting this moved to a more general android hacking/modding forum, might get better responce.

Any updates on this? I upgraded to s21 and now my star wars modded version doesn't work as Obb and data folders are restricted by android 12/one ui 4. None of the fie managers that worked on android 11 work anymore. Well they can extract the files in the folders, but no apps see those files

Solid explorer worked for me

Hi, here is example for DriveDroid:
Kind of workaround is to put your files to /storage/SD_CARD_ID/Android/data/com.XXX.YYY/files
In my case it works only after moving files to:
"/mnt/media_rw/82F3-1D20/Android/media/com.softwarebakery.drivedroid.paid"
--
You can try to make the same for OBB files and else.
--
Used X-plore manager.

It would be useless because everything depends on the exact game...
What point in moving OBB if the app itself can`t interact with file system by design? You will need to move everything to SD Card. But for the rare cases my solution above should work.
--
More universal solution: format SD Card as internal and use AppMgr III with root.
--
Also check an option in the Apps Section in "Developer Options" to turn on "Force allow apps on external".

Last but not least - check here.

[Q] Help! Note 3 kitkat update sd card support question.

Hey I have a question thought maybe you might be able to help. I just updated my samsung galaxy note 3 and its with wind mobile and it's sm-n900w8 modle. Anyways I keep hearing about this sd card thing being removed on the web today and how everybody is pissed about it. I tried reading about it but don't understand. Is there anyway it could be super simplified for me? Any help would be great thanks.

A simplified answer:
Google changed the permissions of third party apps regarding external storage due to security concerns.
In KitKat third part apps aren't able to read/write to sdcard unless the apps are updated and they generate a folder separately for that app. Even then they only have access to that folder and no other. System apps will still be able to read and write so stuff like My Files from Samsung still has full control.
This is what it means in a nutshell.

So things like downloading a ringtone from the web browser or using my otg cable or using a torrent client will not be affected? I also noticed that in application manager if I click on some of the apps it shows the move to sd card as greyed out and others it shows it as highlighted is this normal? And also I noticed that when I go into my sd card the folders for a lot of my apps are there but the size of my card for storage amount has not dropped is this normal and does it really affect the average joe who's not big into tinkering with Android os?

The torrent client and browser will need to be updated if they aren't already or you can use the stock (system app) browser. But no, basically those things will not be affected and should work just fine.

Ok dudes I will just go about using it like as per usual. Thanks for the help guys!
If you have rooted your note 3 then it is possible to modify a system file to give all non system apps that for example you have downloaded from play store to behave as they would before kit kat changed write permission.
See this post for details of how to edit the file to allow apps to be able to write to your sd card.
Fairly easy to do, just have to use any file editor to add a single line in a system file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51036231&postcount=482
Alternatively someone has posted that they have written an app to do this on play store.
I can't find link to this at the moment.
Will edit this post If I find the post.

Ti Backup and Helium can not write to SD Card

Is anyone else experianceing this issue? I just came over from an S4 that was running an AOSP ROM. I am now running our stock ROM, rooted with Xposed. Titanium Backup and Helium say that my external SD card can not be accessed/written to. I have fixed permissions via ROM Manager since I have Philz which doesn't have a fix permissions option. Still cant write to external SD. Any suggestions?

A simple search would have found dozens of threads discussing this and describing workarounds. In short, Kitkat cripples the ability of third party apps to freely write to your SD card obstensibly in the interests of security a la IOS.
That is.. don't let end users do anything other than browse the web or use simplistic apps and we can protect your device from the scary internet, malware and so forth.
Rooted devices can easily restore the functionality.

The solution should be readily apparent. Even to you. And with that attitude, connect the dots yourself.
Insight into the cause would be most helpful as the "solution" is more of a work around. Knowing the cause would benefit the community. a quick glance back at the OP might have necessary. :good::good::good::good:
Even after all this, Helium will not offer me the choice to use the SD card.
1. navigate to /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml
2.Tap and hold the platform.xml file and select Edit option.
3.Now look for this entry:
name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"
4.Now add the following string of code just after <group gid=”sdcard_rw”/>.
<group gid="media_rw"/>
5.Having editing the file, save your changes and exit the root file manager app.
6.Finally, reboot your phone or tablet.
When your device boots up the write access on external SD card by third-party apps should be enabled.

I used this one too, sends to work, but TI backup still gains to access the SD, also tried the SDFix app that was mentioned, same end effect. I've even verified the permissions myself with Rom toolbox for browser. Something about how TI accesses the SD is non standard. Works on every other device and Android version I've used through 4.4.2 slim Rom on my moto droid hd

"Completely"? Are you sure? Every app has "internal data" which is never moved to the Ext SD card by this Move2SD method because our Ext SD cards are in FAT32 format and internal data needs a linux partition such as ext2/3/4 so that permissions don't break. This can be achieved by the Link2SD app as most of us are already aware of. So are you sure about the "complete" thing?

[Q] Apps Crashing on startup after enabling native tethering

Hello,
I am using a Sprint Galaxy S4 on stock 4.4.2. I recently set out to enable native tethering so I can have 4g on my tablet. After looking around a little I found the odex and jar for my device/version (NAE) and used TowelRoot to get root access. After copying over the services.jar and services.odex files I found that any time I install a new app it will crash when I try to open it. My root access has also been removed (TowelRoot will not give me root anymore) and some programs can't write to the phone or SD Card such as Box. Since root access has somehow been revoked I can't put the old services.jar and .odex back in place.
I installed the jar and odex by simply copying them to the system/framework folder per a QBKing77 guide. Another guide had suggested installing using goomanager but I quickly found that it was discontinued. I considered using Flashify but ended up just using QBKing's method since it was quicker and required no extra app.
Thanks for any help you can give me. I'm happy to provide additional information (such as a stack trace of a crash) if it's helpful in any way.

Just flash the stock rom.
You can backup the following by these methods.
Contacts : Press the menu button in the contacts app. Press on Import/Export then export to SD card.
Apps : Download ApkExtract from the play store and backup the apps.
App data (high score in games etc.) : Download Helium from the playstore and backup the app data. Note app data gets stored on the internal sdcard, so move it to the external sd card.
Images : Go to gallery and press on an album. Merge it with an existing album that is present on the ext memory card.
Rest you know how to
You wont lose anything if you just flash the matching stock rom, but why take chances and then repent.

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately I will still lose my apps and high scores since I cannot currently use any new apps even if I install using the apk instead of play store. But I don't play a lot of phone video games so that's okay and apparently I can just tell Google Play to reinstall all apps. I think I will use this as an opportunity to flash SlimKat and get away from all the silly Sprint bloatware.

Arena of Valor can't be installed

Hey everyone,
This is not a super important question, but it still irritates me. I wanted to try out the game Arena of Valor (which hit the German PlayStore recently) and play a round with some friends. But it turns out it apparently can't be installed. (My friends running the default roms on their phones (Huawei etc.) Have no issues at all)
I have an Axon7 running one of the latest Resurrection Remix Builds and I am rooted using Magisk. I have not experienced any other problems with downloading or installing apps from the PlayStore.
But whenever I tap on download, the download of the game starts and (since it is a rather large one) takes a while (I get the normal download bar and everything). Then after a while it says "installing" for another like 5 minutes to then suddenly give me an error message which reads as follows (rough translation from German):
" App can not be downloaded.
'Arena of Valor ..... Game' (full name of the game) can not be downloaded. Please try again. If the issue remains you can get help from the Probelmsolving article. (Code of error: 492) "
So obviously I tried again (for like 15 times now), I also tried rebooting my phone several times and I did search the code of error online and found out that it's supposed to be google-related and clearing the cache of the PlayStore and services could fix this, but it did not for me.
At this point I'm pretty confused, since I can install any other app (I've tried so far) just fine and I am now wondering why this would be. Could it be an issue with root, but then again I'd think it would tell me, as other apps did before. Does any one else have this issue or the app successfully installed on their device? Or does anyone have an idea what could cause my problem and fix this? Thanks for any help in advance!
Cheers

Hey thanks for your feedback! I already did that as well... should have added it above :/ I downloaded from apkmirror and another site and got it to start nad was asked to give permissions, but after that everytime a pop-up showed up telling me to download again from google play, since there was some kind of error. Well, I'd say I thought so it'd do that, but it did worth a shot. I'm sorry it didn't help.
Edit: Just got something on my mind. On ine of the stock updates (can't remember which one) download from the Play Store was really, I mean REALLY slow through Wi-Fi. But I realized that if I simply start the download then put the phone in 'sleep' mode by pressing the power button, the download speed is just turns back to normal. It was pretty obvious during big downloads. It was really slow (shown 30 minutes or so for finish), then I just pressed power, checked on it in a couple of minutes and download was done. I don't know why it did this, but it worked every time, maybe you should try that. Other than that, go back to stock. jk.

I guess that app has obb too, so you should install an FTP server on your phone and an FTP client on one of your friends' phones, then go to /sdcard/Android/obb/ and copy the folder of the game to the same place on your phone

Lol no, what Play store does is just download the apk from a database and install it on your phone, then download whatever extra files the app needs. If you bought the app it will also provide authentication in case that it needs to get it.
So basically you can do the same process manually (as long as it's free) by downloading the apk and the obb, then moving the obb folder (named com.devname.appname) to /sdcard/Android/obb/.
Otherwise you can try wiping Play store's cache and try to download it, and if that still doesn't do anything delete its data.
Just checking, is your Axon 7 a Chinese version- the A2017?
I have had trouble downloading large data files for games on this from playstore too... It might have something to do with the fact that google had to be installed from other places and google has a security issue with our devices...
After a few updates, currently on B08, it works. Can download apps that failed prior to this update...

Where did you get the obb folder from? Try root browser, even if you don't have root.
The obb is just additional files that the app uses. I guess they need to do that because you's have to download the whole thing if they just updated the app like they usually do. So for a 3 GB game you might only need to download ~100 mb instead of the whole 3 GB when you update it

Just to learn something again, what exactly is OBB? And if I download the apk I don't have the obb with it automatically?

OBB files are basically the data files., just in a different format. The Obb files will come in a separate folder if the whole thing isn't RAR'ed or Zipped up...
You should have games apk file and a separate folder with OBB files inside.

Just move it lol
Where did you get the obb folder from? Try root browser, even if you don't have root.
The obb is just additional files that the app uses. I guess they need to do that because you's have to download the whole thing if they just updated the app like they usually do. So for a 3 GB game you might only need to download ~100 mb instead of the whole 3 GB when you update it

Well I am rooted (Magisk) but ES Explorer is unable to enable the root functions for some reason even though it has Superuser rights in Magisk... And solid explorer as any other I've tried so far won't move files to the obb folder.
And I got the file from the phone of a friend as suggested

Again, try Root browser (the old one won't be able to move stuff to the SD card, but it's even better than the new one). Much better than those two... ES explorer is the worst bloated piece of crap there is.

I agree with you on ES , and tried out the new root browser which leaves a really good first impression! Didn't know of this app so far, so thanks for pointing it out!
But I still can't do it... I'll attach a short screen capture of what is happening for me

(Since the upload on XDA didn't work for me)

Just checking, is your Axon 7 a Chinese version- the A2017?
I have had trouble downloading large data files for games on this from playstore too... It might have something to do with the fact that google had to be installed from other places and google has a security issue with our devices...
After a few updates, currently on B08, it works. Can download apps that failed prior to this update...
