When I was active here I helped everyone, even on repetitive questions.

This is type of question, like which car is the best.
Whatever suits your needs. It mostly depends on apps you use and ehat features you need. For battery and customizations I advise Lineage, but you can choose Pixel. For lineage everything works, I use it for over a year

Why do we need Custom roms??

I am a noob when it comes to this,
I know that some roms offer customization with different user experience
add or remove some fetures or stuff from the standard rom.
or maybe even "optimize" some apps.
is that to it with custom roms?
also is there a guide for comparative page between roms offered by people here?
regards
Well, depends for what are you using your phone/device.
If you are searching for performance optimized ROM and you find that stock HTC original ROM is slow than take a look at this thread and first post with comparative xls-table results as attachment.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582700
In many cases custom ROMs have custom optimizations and customizations. Are they better than stock? In most cases they are but at the same time they introduce some problems and have bugs ... but that is the price to be paid for being on the cutting edge of technology anyway.
In most cases custom ROMs are better and it comes to personal taste for certain features. If you are satisfied with your device as it is, you don't have to change anything. On the other hand, you can also read few threads and you will very quickly realize what are the differences between certain ROM creators and their ROMs.
I personally always search for a ROM that is close as it can be to stock ROM but with newest stable build (not necessary build with highest number), most of useful tweaks incorporated and nice and functional theme.
Hope this helps.
ps. I fancy this:

Keep in mind i been outa loop with WM sense t-mobile wing, but inprocess of getting rom you also get ROOT access and most roms will overclock the phone slightly like mentioned above there ussally quicker.
thanks for the helpfulll info.
I am just seeing that the rom threads have replies \ minute, which means its really hard to keep up with issues and fixes from threads, unless the first post is actually edited.
hopefully it will be tided up in time

Fastest/stable ROM avalible for my G1

Hi, I recently purchased a HTC Dream (aka G1) and am looking to replace the stock ROM with a more snappy and stable third party one (it has been rooted already). What currently is the best replacement ROM in terms of speed and stability?
Thanks in advance
~fatty~
It's a matter of opinion, try them all and find what you like.
There has been TONS of threads opened up JUST like this. Do research, read ROM threads in the development section for user feedback to compare, and just flash away.
I personally use SuperD which a lot of people love. But in cases of wanting a solid ROM I recommend trying Cyanogen, his work is often built upon by other devs for their own custom ROMs and he doesn't release a bunch of little updates that make you have to flash every 3 days so its nice.

[Q] New to S4 (T-Mo), looking for opinions

Hey all
I'm coming from the Amaze, and before that, the Nexus One and the G1. I like the camera app on my S4, and i haven't tried S-Voice yet. Outside of these features though, i'm not sure i care for the original stock rom. I saw a poll for what everyone thought was the best Rom for the i9500, i was wondering about opinions of the i9505 variant.
Looking for really good battery life, all the features of the stock camera (if not more) and better responsiveness than the stock rom. I figure i should stick with TW based roms for now until i find apps that can replace them. My main purpose in this phone was the ability to run mirrorlink to my car's stereo, so i can't loose that either.
So then, what is everyone's favorite TouchWiz based rom? Or, if you prefer, what rom has at the very least the same features as the stock rom for the camera? Is there something that equals s-voice? Can i still mirrorlink with that rom?
thanks all!

First off there is a whole separate section for t mobile variant discussions that will give you a lot more relevant information for the t mobile device.
Second, threads about what the best ROM are generally are not welcome on xda because it is an impossible question. Only you can decide what the best ROM is for you. What makes battery life great on my ROM might severely limit your ability to use it the way you prefer. Everything depends on your taste, and how you use the phone. The only way to decide what ROM is best is to start flashing them and testing.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.

I'm not a newb to xda. I didn't ask for a best, i asked for opinions of favorites. I feel there is a BIG difference there. Now, i did mention that i saw a poll for what people thought was the best rom for the non-T-Mo variant, but that only inspired this thread in part.
Hopefully i can get some real responses regarding what other people find as their favorite roms based on the criteria i'm looking for, or reasons why another rom is their favorite in general. I don't really have the time to sit and flash roms all day long anymore.

Best rom?

Does anyone know the best rom that would be the closest thing to the original lg ui? With all or at least most of the features like knock on. i actually like the phone and the software it comes with so id like to keep it the same i just need to root it to improve my battery life. And one that makes the battery life much better, right now mine is terrible it drains for no reason at all. And if you could provide the links for where to download them that would be greatly appreciated!
Go with StockMOD rom and StockMOD kernel.

no such thing as best rom, nor kernel. not only will every device react differently to every rom/kernel but also all our needs differ, so does our usages. best way for you to find the best rom for your phone and for your needs is to try out as many as possible. when you find your pbones and your best rom, you will know it.
Not mean to be rude or disrespect but I would go ahead and give you some advice
1. Question like "which is best ROM" will be or tends to be deleted pretty quick. Not sure whether XDA rule or not but no ROM comparison allowed. This best vs other best is a type of comparison that could lead to argument.
2. There is no BEST ROM. Each people has their own "best" ROM which suitable most for their use. My best ROM is not necessarily your best ROM at all.
3. Based on what you said, what make you think rooting and installing other ROMs will make your phone's battery better? Blindly assume custom ROM will have better on this or better on that is WRONG.
4. Some of our members have 8 hrs on-screen time within total 2 or 3-day run time. Some disable everything, some enable everything and they're all bone-stock LG ROM.
No one stops you from flashing ROM but just bear in mind those info.

Alright thanks for the advice, i just joined yesterday. Whats the difference between stock based rom, and AOSP based rom?
stock-based ROM is custom ROM that based on the stock ROM. It looks pretty much the same (same GUI, same framework, ....) with vastly enhancements.
AOSP-based ROM is like vanilla ROM, very close to untamed Android ROM.
Put it this way, Android (or Google) create its ROM, it's AOSP ROM. Purely.
Then mfg such LG, HTC, Sammy, ... take that ROM and create their own GUI on top of it. So Sammy has TouchWiz, LG has ..... whatever they call, HTC has Sense, Motorola has Blurr, .....
Then come the providers such AT&T, Verizon, .... They load ton of bloatware on top of it.

Yes they are stable and pretty much stock, with just improved performance and battery. What variant of phone do you have?

So just a few points seeing as you're new here:
1. Question threads should be created in the Q&A forum... If you're asking a question, post it there.
2. We don't allow "Best ROM" threads... the reasons have already been explained to you.
3. Your questions are some of the most basic and don't require the creation of a new thread... You just need to read.
Thread moved and closed.

Changing ROM from xXx. Need help deciding.

Hi folks,
I want to change my ROM from xXx to another one, because xXx doesn't feel as fast as it used to be. And I wantto try another one. What ROM would you suggest? Which ROMS are considered popular, fast, stable andwith good support and user base? Thanks for helpimg me deciding, I want to narrow it down to 2 - 3 alternative ROMS to xXx mad try them and decide which suits me most.
Notice
please do not hate me for another topic which may seem dumb to you. I have been reading XDA Developers daily since I got my android (I started with HTC HD2, heh). I know there is no correct answer to my question and I believe most of you will reply something like " don't ask, just try" or "it is stupid question" or "go to other forum in this section, because we want to trashtalk you there".
I know that most of the users here on XDA are helpful, and so am I - I try to give advices to others whenever I think hadI experienced and solved any problem that other users might have had. But sadly there is also the loud minority of users that instead of helping others just replies something like "RTFM" (in better case). So, if You are this kind of people, please do not answer.Yes, I googled. Yeas, I read comparisons< just want to hear yout tips etc..
Thanks, folks!
Since owning my OP5, I have tried the following roms:
Freedom OS
then tired
xXx (for many months)
But recently, i'm now on
AquariOS 8.1.0 https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...om-aquarios-8-1-0-live-support-volte-t3768515
For me it’s d.u the most stable rom and aicp just after.
Have you considered that the setup on your phone and not just the ROM could also affect performance? What kernel and settings do you have? What other mods and tweaks do you use?

I would love to use AquariOS also .. But when I tried it I ended getting reboots always when using portable hotspot so that was a deal breaker for me .. Which version you are?
Also Im coming from xXx and now using aosp extended .. rather would use AquariOS
Why not try resurrection remix? I'm using it ever since 7.2 and it's amazing
I was on OOS until a few weeks ago. I tried a few custom ROMs, but crDroid seems to take the cake for me. It's pretty stable, has nice features, it's just great overall. I suggest giving it a try.

I am using blu_spark kernel, but with xXx ROM I am fed up with every other version there is a bug which makes me spent few hours figuring how to even boot the phone :/
Go for codename Phoenix. You can use camera m with all features working. It's also pretty smooth and gets updated often.

Thanks, will try.
I tried AquariOS, but the ROM is not ready for encrypted phones and has battery-related issues, despite being super beautiful and ultra fast. So I came back to xXx, this time to 10.3 version. But I will try other roms, so I can post updates here if anyone is interested.
Yet I must say I hoped for far larger number of people giving their thoughts, when I see how many users downloads and uses custom ROMS, as well as how many discuss threads.
Anyway, thank y'all!
I was on xXx for many months. Today am gonna try the Ressurection Remix (the GSI one) since project Treble is ported to our phone!
