Best rom? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know the best rom that would be the closest thing to the original lg ui? With all or at least most of the features like knock on. i actually like the phone and the software it comes with so id like to keep it the same i just need to root it to improve my battery life. And one that makes the battery life much better, right now mine is terrible it drains for no reason at all. And if you could provide the links for where to download them that would be greatly appreciated!

Go with StockMOD rom and StockMOD kernel.

Where can i download those? are they stable? Will the camera be the lg camera?

no such thing as best rom, nor kernel. not only will every device react differently to every rom/kernel but also all our needs differ, so does our usages. best way for you to find the best rom for your phone and for your needs is to try out as many as possible. when you find your pbones and your best rom, you will know it.

Not mean to be rude or disrespect but I would go ahead and give you some advice
1. Question like "which is best ROM" will be or tends to be deleted pretty quick. Not sure whether XDA rule or not but no ROM comparison allowed. This best vs other best is a type of comparison that could lead to argument.
2. There is no BEST ROM. Each people has their own "best" ROM which suitable most for their use. My best ROM is not necessarily your best ROM at all.
3. Based on what you said, what make you think rooting and installing other ROMs will make your phone's battery better? Blindly assume custom ROM will have better on this or better on that is WRONG.
4. Some of our members have 8 hrs on-screen time within total 2 or 3-day run time. Some disable everything, some enable everything and they're all bone-stock LG ROM.
No one stops you from flashing ROM but just bear in mind those info.

Alright thanks for the advice, i just joined yesterday. Whats the difference between stock based rom, and AOSP based rom?

stock-based ROM is custom ROM that based on the stock ROM. It looks pretty much the same (same GUI, same framework, ....) with vastly enhancements.
AOSP-based ROM is like vanilla ROM, very close to untamed Android ROM.
Put it this way, Android (or Google) create its ROM, it's AOSP ROM. Purely.
Then mfg such LG, HTC, Sammy, ... take that ROM and create their own GUI on top of it. So Sammy has TouchWiz, LG has ..... whatever they call, HTC has Sense, Motorola has Blurr, .....
Then come the providers such AT&T, Verizon, .... They load ton of bloatware on top of it.

Yes they are stable and pretty much stock, with just improved performance and battery. What variant of phone do you have?

So just a few points seeing as you're new here:
1. Question threads should be created in the Q&A forum... If you're asking a question, post it there.
2. We don't allow "Best ROM" threads... the reasons have already been explained to you.
3. Your questions are some of the most basic and don't require the creation of a new thread... You just need to read.

[Q] Best rom

Hey I just got a Samsung Note and was wondering which is the best rom?
I've had atrix for a while so I was used to the Rom creators for it but note's rom are all new to me so I cant tell one rom from another that well.. thank you in advance..
Im fine with cassies rom and riversources kernel.

+1000 Very good ROM,you must try it
I don't know guys - they all look, feel and work the same to me - honestly I can't wait for some REAL custom roms not based on TouchWiz (which is super annoying) .. If you used MIUI you will know what I mean.
Do you think it will ever happen, or are we tied to S-Pen software embedded into stock rom?
Another vote for Rocket ROM. Keep in mind that there is a file to revert to the stock theme somewhere in the thread.
These threads aren't allowed but before it's closed... I use Cassies Rom
they are all good... Though we might differ on our experiences with the current available ROMs + considering the fact that though we have same Phone model and brand, but the fact is each of us has unique Galaxy Note on our hands (Example is some NOTE can tolerate extreme undervolting and some cant)... We have about 5 active ROM thread, you can visit each of the thread, read the users feedback and you can also post your queries there... or you can try each of the ROM, have each of them stay at least 3-5days on your phone, then you can decide whats best for you (like what i did)... GoodLuck...
Hi there,
I know this is an old thread, but since it was the first one I found when I was searching for good Roms, I figured I'd post my experience here. I've been using RocketRoms for a while now and find them clean and they work well. I've also been playing around with Franco's kernels, and so far I've never seen such great battery life as I have today with RocketRom v22 and Franco kernel 7. Once ICS roms become more stable I'll switch over, but I'm so pleased with performance now that I'm reluctant to switch over too early.
See my signature
Very smooth, no lag, great battery life.
stock LA1 + Franco/Abyssnote kernel here. Usability of Kernel depends on your note
As far as GB roms go I had great success with Darkyrom.
I've recently gone over to Midnote ICS - and so far it's the best of the current crop of ICS roms.
If you really need your phone to work every day without fault, go with darkyrom.
If you want the newest bells and whistles, go with midnote.
I've tried most of the GB ROMs, and personally, there is only this 'refined' one which i always go back to... DarkyROM
Run it with Franco kernel, you got a bloody satisfying setup

These sort of threads always take a wrong turn and turn into flame war. There is no best rom for one user. Read the information available and make your own decision.

You aren't serious are you? Not only are there thousands of threads like this, but that is also a very stupid question if you think about it, as if there was a 'best ROM' everyone would be using it.
Having said that, I would advise sticking to a CM7 ROM for speed and stability, in my experience Sense simply isn't as fast as it's made out to be.
use a miui rom....

When I was typing the Title I didn't get any similar topic to that. Well you see there are many ROM but some of them are better than the others but like I said I don't have the time to try every single ROM to check it for my self thats why I am asking.
For me TBD Sansation XL v3.5 themed or stock. FAST AND STABLE.

You didn't see a single thread remotely like this? Are you f**king kidding me? You clearly spent less than 5 milliseconds searching, otherwise you would have found (I would think literally) hundreds of 'best ROM' threads.
I think any reply to this can only be subjective. There can never be a 'best rom', only a personal favorite. I don't particularly like sense so I use Dorimanx's latest High End Rom. Someone who likes sense will disagree and someone else would say the latest ics build.
For me Dorimanx's rom is the fastest and most stable I've found...I'd recommend it.
Sign a contract and get a new phone...
The best rom is the rom do you like it most. Start installing different roms and see what is good enough for you. Cheers!
I think there is a rule that says not to post such posts...better read the rules before, or the sticky's...
Anyway, as bangorip said this is subjective and depends from lot's of parameters...
From my experience, use wp7 as the standard everyday rom and with dual boot try sd for android but not a sense rom ( it's not as fast in the sd as in nand-my opinion) also if you want only android in nand try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316632

Yes a little more searching would have showed you that you are hardly the first to ask this question. By asking what is the best rom for you that's like asking what is the best outfit for you, or the best car for you. It's impossible for anyone to tell you what is best for you.
Now there are a lot of options from Sense to AOSP to CM7/CM9 to MIUI to Touchwiz and so on.
Your refusal to sample them all speaks to your impatience, this is typically a developer forum so I suggest doing your own research and not asking anyone here to tell you what is best. Experimenting will be the only way to tell you what is best but I can list some things about the different roms
CM7: Fast and stable GB, everything works here.
AOSP: Same as CM7 but with not as many options, just straight Android to the core
CM9: ICS roms, still in the early builds but with almost everything working. A few issues arise here and there so you may want to wait until deveolpment furthers
MIUI: Huge options for customization and everything works (in GB of course, the MIUI ICS roms are at the same level as CM9)
Sense: You have Sense 2.1 Froyo with everything working (except 720p I believe) Or you can move to GB with Sense 2.1-3.5 with everything except video recording working properly. Sense naturally is slower though as it is pretty resource heavy. But the efforts of the devs have brought Sense 3.5 to near CM7 speed and usability.
Dorimanx's rom
New Dorimanx's rom is the best for you. Witch i tried...
@chrisrj28 that was an answer I was looking for.

[Q] New to S4 (T-Mo), looking for opinions

Hey all
I'm coming from the Amaze, and before that, the Nexus One and the G1. I like the camera app on my S4, and i haven't tried S-Voice yet. Outside of these features though, i'm not sure i care for the original stock rom. I saw a poll for what everyone thought was the best Rom for the i9500, i was wondering about opinions of the i9505 variant.
Looking for really good battery life, all the features of the stock camera (if not more) and better responsiveness than the stock rom. I figure i should stick with TW based roms for now until i find apps that can replace them. My main purpose in this phone was the ability to run mirrorlink to my car's stereo, so i can't loose that either.
So then, what is everyone's favorite TouchWiz based rom? Or, if you prefer, what rom has at the very least the same features as the stock rom for the camera? Is there something that equals s-voice? Can i still mirrorlink with that rom?
thanks all!

First off there is a whole separate section for t mobile variant discussions that will give you a lot more relevant information for the t mobile device.
Second, threads about what the best ROM are generally are not welcome on xda because it is an impossible question. Only you can decide what the best ROM is for you. What makes battery life great on my ROM might severely limit your ability to use it the way you prefer. Everything depends on your taste, and how you use the phone. The only way to decide what ROM is best is to start flashing them and testing.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.

I'm not a newb to xda. I didn't ask for a best, i asked for opinions of favorites. I feel there is a BIG difference there. Now, i did mention that i saw a poll for what people thought was the best rom for the non-T-Mo variant, but that only inspired this thread in part.
Hopefully i can get some real responses regarding what other people find as their favorite roms based on the criteria i'm looking for, or reasons why another rom is their favorite in general. I don't really have the time to sit and flash roms all day long anymore.

[Q] Benefits of Cyanogen (or any other ROM)

I have noticed that my Nexus 7 seems to lag more and more lately and the battery doesn't seem to be as long lasting as I'd like/thought.
I was considering installing CyanogenMod on it but was wondering if there would be enough of an improvement to make it worthwhile or should I attempt to clean up the stock ROM to make it more efficient. What other benefits does CyanogenMod offer over stock?
I had also read here that Paranoid is a [seemingly] popular Nexus ROM. What benefits does Paranoid offer over Cyanogen? What about against stock?
Thank you.

In every rom thread there is a list with the features and even a changelog with all the changes from version to version. Read the first posts and you will see what benefits it has.
If it worths to install a custom rom depends on your needs and likings so you wont know until you try it.
Thread closed before it turns into a best rom thread, and we don't allow such threads.

custom roms for this device worth it?

It's all pretty much the same for me. Just different interface/some customizations, battery life between stock rom and CM13/LineageOS.
I flashed pretty much most of them stock, Cm13, Google Edition, Turbo rom. It depends what you like I think, everyone is different.
I like Cm13 by the Spainish team this tread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/cm13-0-lex720-team-superluminal-t3523391
I am running this rom I found it good: T.A.R.S-Dev-23S by Steve: http://tars-lepro3.blogspot.com.es/2017/02/tars-23s-beta-dev-para-lepro3-x720.html.
And Turbo rom I flashed few of them maybe the K6 was good, not sure you can still download it as the tread been closed.
7.1 Rom just one available I haven't try it yet. The custom roms are better than stock I think for speed, performance, sound etc.
Lineage or Turbo

Compared to the overbloated stock, I would also say that all custom roms are an improvement. I started with Cydras google edition, 2 Turbo versions but for the longest time and still am on the official lineage which has it's flaws, but all combined is not far from great.
Imo this could still be consolidated, there are some obviously very skilled developers involved but they do - to me as a noob - not seem to fully benefit from each others discoveries. Why would you need more than one great marshmallow and one great nougat rom(at some point in the future when they manage to get the camera working) which can then, as it always could, be customized to a very far extend?
I hope that at some point they will do some combined version - looking at what different parts and functions some of them managed to exceed expections, if that was combined... Well, I like to dream about it ...
