Question: Can I perform an OTA update on my Magisk rooted S10+? - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Hi,
I rooted my S10+ using the magisk patch on the firmware. I've read an article on thecustomdroid where it says I can perform an OTA without losing root. Is this correct?
Thanks in advance

Yes it can be. just make sure it's not UI update (just security/fix) update. because if it a new UI update may you not get stable experience with magisk app for incompatible issues

If you on stock rom (official that by Samsung) then you can update normally.

I'm noticing on other forums people that claim root is retained, did you have to reflash su or was it retained? Sorry for 20 questions... Just really cautious.

i did not even check just side loaded it right after the update after reflashing twrp
OK. I updated, root was retained. No need to side load it back. I didn't remove xposed first, I DID however turn off the modules. Everything is fine, turned mods back on and rebooted, still fine.

I updated it last night. When it was finished updating I noticed it was optimizing apps after it restarted. I got excited and thought "Lollipop" for a second but it appears they simply changed compilers ( JIT to ART ). This is still a welcome change as the ART compiler is known to be faster and more efficient for a lot of apps. A lot of apps did install again after the update but everything was seamless, no loss of data as far as I know. Also the Android Version is still 4.4.3.
4.4.3? Shouldn't it be 4.4.2?

I installed via odin from sammobile. Cf-autoroot works. Need to install superuser by chainfire separately. Works great.
Mine OTA update fails to install at 24%. I'm rooted with stock ROM and recovery. I even unrooted and tried it again, and the same thing happens. SamMobile doesn't have any firmware (of any version) for this tablet (SM-P600) for the USA??? Seriously?

Thank you! I couldn't remember what the region code was. I guess I could've just looked at the current firmware to figure it out, though... Doh!
And "Cellular South" is the USA region code (expecially for a WiFi tablet) because...? Haha

Im assuming you installed cellular south latest from sammobile. flash cf autoroot and let it do its thing. After reboot, goto playstore and download/install superuser chainfire. it asks you to disable knox, etc. Reboot and use rootchecker. I am stock rooted without custom recovery.

You should only apply updates with the same Cxxx as yours.I thought that you have C432 from the other guy's post so I'm sorry.
And I've found B210 with C469 so you can update to this first with extracting the recovery from it with Huawei Update Extractor and flashing via fastboot and then updating via dload but i don't know if there's EMUI 4.0 for C469.

Hi,
What happens if you update with the wrong Cxxx?
I just got a used p8 that's got GRA-L09C02B191 on it. I'd like to update it to Android6 before starting to screw around with custom ROMs. I've got FirmwareFinder running, and it's already found 200+ options, none of which appears to be C02, despite that being my range setting. Is my model unupdateable?
TIA!

Thanks for the lightning fast reply!
That's not so bad, I don't care about themes, don't use Android Pay, and doing the updates manually isn't a huge pain. Is there anything else that I lose? Presumably I'll be able to roll back to gra-l09c02b191 to restore full functionality?
So can I then just go directly for the latest firmware, which I guess is B370?
Thanks!

I do not recommend do that, because you will probably have a soft brick, try to do a clean installation of the firmware instead.
Do It manually. I'll post the link in a few.

Just pay attention to not erase user data and it won't wipe anything
It's not possible to flash a OTA.zip on a modified system!!!
And it's not recommended to try to make it work!!! That's a block based OTA-update which will ruined your phone by installing it on a modified device!
