Redmi K20 (davinci Indian device) sensors not working - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Questions & Answers

Hi awesome XDA Devs and fellow Redmi K20 / Mi 9T users, hope you & your family are doing well. I need help, I own a Redmi K20 (davinci) - Indian device. I had installed Pixel Experience rom, which I didn't like and wanted to roll back to stock rom. But without reading the guide to flash fastboot rom, I flashed the back up I had taken via TWRP. Apparently, my phone was bricked and I had to enter EDL mode via CMD and flash the stock rom which showed some error, but the phone booted to stock rom. Everything is working fine, even the touch-fingerprint sensor is working. All the other sensors aren't, also, native camera's rear video recording has stopped working, it just freezes. However, I use gCam PX by cStark which records the video without any issue. I tried a lot of things from a lot of XDA posts & guides, but to no avail. I took my device to the official service centre (Mumbai), they couldn't fix the sensors' issue.

TUTORIAL - Installing CM13 on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition 'Kate'

I recently bought myself a Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition (Kate) for its ability to run an official build of CM13 and, importantly, because Kate offers Band 20 support - a major advantage for UK usage.
As you may realise, getting CM13 onto Kate is somewhat more complex than getting it running on Kenzo. This is due to both the bootloader not being able to be unlocked officially and also because the Radios in Kate are different to those in Kenzo.
After figuring everything out over the weekend, I managed to flash the Official Nightly CM13 onto my Kate device & everything ran perfectly!
I wrote up the process in my Blog in quite a bit of detail, so feel free to have a read if you wish to install CM13 on your Kate edition of the Redmi Note 3.
@mwarner mmm online you can find an version of CM13 for kate

My tutorial is very thorough - every step is taken into account, taking a phone as it would be out of the box running MIUI to having a fully working CM13 installed. If it wasn't complicated, I wouldn't have written a tutorial .
Thanks for the info though - the text and the ROM is all in Chinese but may be of use to someone.
Thank you for work. I will trying it till my kate comes. Doesn't band 20 and 8 work?

I don't believe is only in Chinese. Usually CM is multilanguage.

A very well written and comprehensive guide, thanks! I've been seeing so many support requests all over the place that i'm still a bit hesitant to flash CM13. Have you noticed /ANY/ issues with hardware support? Dual sim, cameras, FP-reader? Is there anything that works worse on CM than MIUI7 stable?
Thanks again for a good guide, subscribed to your blog too

The Special Edition (Kate) phone supports the following bands:
LTE B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20/28 ( 2100/1900/ 1800/ 1700/ 850/ 2600/ 900/ 800/ 700MHz)
Kenzo does not support Bands 2, 20 and 28.

I must admit that the Note 3 is not my main phone - a Xiaomi Mi Max contains my primary SIM at the moment - so I have not tested it as much as I would like.
At this point (only having had the phone on CM13 for a few days) I have experienced one bug where I used the fingerprint sensor to unlock & the device unlocked, but to a black screen. Turning the screen off with the power button and then unlocking again with the fingerprint resolved this. I have only seen this once, but I did see it.
Generally, everything seems to work well - performance is great (smoother than MIUI) and both cameras and the fingerprint sensor work as expected. I haven't tried Dual SIM, or indeed a MicroSD card in the device, so I can't comment on this.
The bottom line is that it is a little too early for me to say whether I would use CM13 on the Note 3 if it was my primary phone. A safer bet is to use MIUI and set the phone up to turn off some of the oddities of MIUI. I posted about how I set up my phone here:
http://mikestechlife.blogspot.com/2016/10/guide-to-setting-up-xiaomi-miui-phone.html
On my main Mi Max I use Xiaomi.eu weekly on MIUI 8 with it set up as outlined above. CM13 only has partial supported on the Mi Max, so I don't want to go down this route with my Max.
That's quite the tutorial! Lots of good information there.
1. Xiaomi only support bootloader unlocking on Chinese Developer firmwares. There is NO Chinese firmware available for Kate - only Global ROMs. It is therefore impossible to officially unlock a Kate phone.

Not true, at least in my experience. I've officially unlocked my Kate using global dev MIUI8 v6.10.13. Followed these steps.. This particular MIUI release comes with a setting in the dev menu to check for unlocked bootloader and other things.
Now, I'm hoping I wasn't an exception, and officially unlocking Kate has now become just as easy for everyone.
Also, there's a ROM that's quite CM13-like and officially supports Kate and its radio. I come from a 2013 Moto G running CM13 nightlies and I don't miss CM13 after using this for a few days in my Kate. The experience is almost the same, and at least on my Kate, everything's running fine.
Too bad that Xiaomi is playing part lottery when making the phone, seems they can't be bothered to update their sources for all the part providers they're using. I guess we can't complain much when a phone of this caliber is so affordable.
I noticed that Xiaomi.eu have produced a build for Kate this week:
https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-10-27.35843/
Cheers bud great tutorial.
I was using the latest Global Dev Rom and after the first boot loading TWRP it gave me a prompt for password. I could not access storage. Just fully wiped the device with TWRP/Advanced/Wipe Data and did the install. CM13 just booted on my device with a locked bootloader.
Biggie ups!
Does this work with cm 14 too?

Kate bootloader can be unlocked officially, I did it with mine on official global dev rom.

go to en.miui.com/unlock/ and apply to unlock
Use updater to flash global dev rom
Settings -> additional settings -> developer options
enable OEM unlocking
mi unlock status -> register phone
enable usb debugging (not sure if necessary)
reboot into fastboot mode
use mi unlock tool to unlock bootloader
last time i tried the "mi unlock status -> register phone" it faild (and i tried many times and did allot of restarts). i tried it on 6.10.13, what version did you use?
Thanks for the Tutorial. When i flashed the rom with Alka Recovery, i had the error message Encryption was interrupted and can't be completed. With the ZCX Recovery it starts normally.
Has anyone tried this with CM14 or a 7.0 rom?

Final info about possibility to enable Camera2APi on MiNote3 without root

Hi,
I read a lot in this forum and in other sites about the possibility to enable Camera2API on our fantastic MINote3 phone but, at the end, I don't understand if is possible to enable che Camera2API WITHOUT root the device. Can someone give me a final answer about this question ?
PS
If the answere is "yes, is possible without root", then other questions are:
is ok this method https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/tool-google-camera-root-magisk-enable-t3747585/page10 (see post 98) or is only ok for MI A1 ? Are there other methods ?

If you can install TWRP you can enable it without rooting your system, as TWRP has root priveliges while it is running.
Here you can find a zip file to flash in TWRP to enable it.
I have used it.

Yes, I have done it myself on Mi Note 3 running the latest Xiaomi.eu weekly 8.4.26.
I have also done it on Mi Max Prime, Mi Mix, and Mi Note 2.

Only one question: is necessary to flash the twrp on the device or is enough to load the twrp via the command "fastboot boot twrp.img" ?

It "should" work to only boot into TWRP without flashing it.
That is if you do not want to install TWRP, just use it once.
The next time you reboot, your new TWRP will be gone again.
I have not tried this myself.
I will try the procedure where I only boot twrp (without flash it) then will try to enable camera2api parameters on built.prop and also change permission of this file (with su permission).
I will update this thread with a feedback about the operation
Hi,
finally I enable Camera2API on Mi Note 3 (with last official global rom) WITHOUT root the device. These are my tasks:
- unlock the bootloader (with MI official utility) and lost all my data
- flash TWRP Red Wolf then run it and, to give the right access to the partitions, I wipe and format my device from the TWRP menu and reboot the device
- Then, from TWRP, I install "HZQ_MIUI_Camera_Mod_CAMERA2_API_170824.zip"
Thanks Cobben for the good informations
PS
Now I use GCam5.1.018-Arnova8G2-V1.2.apk and run very well. The quality of the night shoots is better a lot respect xiaomi default camera
I add that with gcam the videos are better that xiaomi cam:
- less nois
- better color
- much details
Then, at the end, gcam become the main camera app on my device (and I will use xiaomi cam only for boken effect or camera zoom)

Hi, I installed the Xiaomi.eu rom and installed also the Google camera (v.7.9.4 - everything is working correctly even the Slow motion). I can say that the Miui camera is on par with Google camera or a level down. The Miui camera uses the algorithm in the open-source Gcam app. You can try the Xiaomi.eu rom which is based on China rom - it is great.
In my case instead I use the last global 9.5.3.0 and gcam is the best

Help with update procedure for Xiaomi Mi A1 (5X)

Hello guys,
This is my first post, so thanks for any help before hand.
I have one of the phones that came with the infamous Oxygen bootloader.
And i am loking for help in order to update it to latest release avaliable.
I am on the android version 7.1.2, MiUI v9.0.3.0, my phone identifies itself as 5x, but from my understanding the only difference between the 2 version is the fingerprint sensor and a few cellular band support .
My ROM is a custom ROM that i found in another forum and flashed trought the miflash application.
I am not sure about the rom version yet, because the A1 has android Pie now, and the ROM for the X5 is still Oreo with the MiUI 10, so i am open to suggestions.
I would prefer to transform my phone into a A1 and get ride of the Oxygen bootloader if possible.
Ofc the best option is the safest way and the one that dosen t cripple my phone, because right now it works perfectly fine as day one, with exception to the battery lifetime, but i guess thats normal for a phone with 15 months.
Thanks for the help.

Now some words from me,
Hi I am Omer, I own a Mi Max 3 and Huawei Mate 20 X.
today I ordered a Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition and therefore I am going to be a part of this community.
I am going to update this thread with any upcoming update, just like I did for Mi Max 3 thread.
I am also going to buy a Black Shark 3 Pro for daily use but that phone cant be unlocked.
I hope you enjoy your phones!
if you have any questions feel free to ask!
by the way:
In order to improve the communication performance and stability of the mobile phone, will be upgraded the Qualcomm baseline - Redmi K30 Pro will be suspended from May 25. It is expected to be suspended for about three weeks. This upgrade does not affect the stable version.
Great job!!!
Thanks for doing this like it should be done. I tried but my tutorial is **** compared to this. Cheers ?
Okay, my Bootloader is unlocked and i did the install the current (may 24th) beta version of the xiaomi.eu ROM.
The installation was a bit rough around the edges: The currently available TWRP comes from a chinese developer and starts with chinese language. You can't read a thing.
Fortunately, i have used twrp so often already that i remembered how to change the language without having to read the buttons.
Having installed TWRP via fastboot, i booted into it, changed language and formatted the data partition under "Wipe". Then i connected my pc, transferred the ROM file to the phone and installed it.
I was a bit disappointed that my dear F2 changed it's personality immediately: it identified as Redmi K30 Pro from the first boot on. I know this "problem" from my Mi 9T Pro where the xiaomi.eu ROM changes its name to Redmi K20 Pro, but there was a patch in xiaomi.eu's K20 Pro forum that reversed this effect when flashed via TWRP. This kind of patch does not exist for the Poco F2 as of now, so i guess i'll have to live with it.
Other than that, all seem to run well. First boot took a couple of minutes, but Installation went smoothly and phone is restoring my configuration and installing all my apps right now.
Magisk 20.4 is installed and working. Let's hope that new beta versions will appear next week.

Im pretty sure this is because they are based on the china rom which is available for the redmi k30 pro/zoom
If xiaomi can differentiate between zoom and regular editions on kernel level (they share same kernel and same rom), Im sure that xiaomi.eu forums will be able to create a patch for poco if needed.

Hello mate, i was trying to install it to my f2pro and it all ended in bootloop, it is mandatory to wipe the data partition before installing the rom? Is there any tutorial? I tried to install it twice ending in bootloop and having to install the official rom with the xiaomi rom tool.

Hello there,
In the installation instructions it says what to wipe and what you shouldn't wipe. I think you need to go back to stock and try again.
Cheers ?
Wow thanks for this! Need to wait for a week for Xiaomi to unlock my device (such a bummer as Oneplus don't have this waiting game). Any how, I hope (like it's brother K20 Pro/Premium), there will be AOSP, Lineage and PA flavored roms that will support our beloved Redmi K30 Pro/Zoom/Poco F2 Pro.
Thanks for your efforts on making this thread!
Great to see the development for his device has started .
Does the MIUI Dialer also have the build-in call recorder?

In my experience (also from my Mi 9T Pro before), you not only need to wipe the data partition, you even need to format it (can be found under "Wipe" in TWRP) when coming from stock rom to xiaomi.eu for the first time.
Once on xiaomi.eu ROM, you can install newer versions by dirty flashing: no need to wipe your data partition, your apps, data and settings survive.

Thanks for confirming. I can finally unlock my bootloader today (had a waiting period of 360 hours..), guess I'll flash this rom directly after that since my device will be wiped with unlocking now anyway.

I'm not sure from which source i downloaded it, since it was some days before my bootloader unlock time ran out, but the file is named "recovery-TWRP-3.4.1B-0328-REDMI_K30PRO-CN-wzsx150.img"
At the moment, this seems to be only working TWRP for the Poco F2. Since it comes from a chinese developer, you have to change the language to English first, unless your fluent reading chinese.
To do that, you have to pull the slider on the bottom of the start screen to the right, then use the third button from the top in the second column of buttons (which is the "Settings" button) and then use the small globe symbol in the upper right of the screen.
Hi all, i want to report one bug:
Whenever enter to a game with full screen mode and play it for a while, the full screen gesture can not be use any more. So i have to press power button to lock my phone(game is running) then unlock the phone to come to the game. Here i can use the gesture as normal.

i read on the xiaomi eu forum that on one of the weekly roms, the mic was not working on calls https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/no-voice-during-the-call.56159/ . Can you check if the mic works if you call somebody? I am just waiting for my unlock timer to end and want to install xiaomi eu.
As im writing this, the new xiaomi eu stable miui 12 came out, just for your information. The problem with the mic was on miui 12 so i hope they included a fix for the stable version before rolling it out.
Unfortunately, the stable MIUI 12 is not yet for us. Just for MI10, MI10Pro, HMK20MI9T, HMK305G.
No beta
No beta for this week either, links for the 20.6.16 were published and there is nothing for the K30 Pro neither the Mi10 nor Mi 10 Pro
