Greetings guys, ive seen that the camera api 2 is still broken for galaxy s6 in the android m, this can be checked easelly by running any custom camera app like camera fv 5, a better camera or proshot camera.
All of them return blurry pictures with camera api 2, while works flawlessly with old camera api.
Even though im very very happy with the galaxy default camera app finally supporting shutter speed and raw, i was hoping the camera api 2 wouldve been properly implemented in this build which unfortunatelly it wasnt.
So im trying to do get as much data as possible by asking you guys to post your phone model, android version, sensor brand/model and experience with camera api 2:
Ill go first:
Phone: G920F
Android: Android 6.0.1
Camera Sensor: Sony_IMX240 (To check your sensor install this app from google play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.finalwire.aida64&hl=pt_PT)
Testing:
ProShot(Paid) Blurry pictures,
Camera FV5(Paid)=Blurry Camera API2 (Resolution maximum of 8mp) and up to 3200 iso, but normal image quality with old camera api (Resolution maximum of 16mp) but only 800iso,
A Better Camera (Paid) Blurry Camera Api2 but normal image quality with old camera api.
This problem is included in lollipop 5.1.1

Hi! I'm the dev of ProShot. I'm really stumped on the soft images issue on Samsung phones. If you shoot RAW you will see that correct focus was achieved, but the JPEG doesn't look quite right. Running a simple sharpen filter produces results closer to the stock camera app, but it's not quite 100%.
No other device has this issue, so Samsung is definitely at fault here. And only offering 8MP resolutions in Android M is a pretty bad oversight, they clearly didn't test this update that well :/
Hi all , I have to say that with CameraFV all problems said up are same here - blury detail on jpg photo , 8mpx max resolution for jpgs in MM. But in RAW everything is just right - detail and resolution. Dont know where is problem but think on 90% is base on Samsung's camera driver. Dont know also situation in S7.
A made also comparisson between RAWs in CameraFV and Stock Camera app for Sammy and may say that cameraFV take better detail at all , stock camera app has more noise and detail is more aggressive.

Thank you for your contribution people, both camera fv5 and proshot are excelent camera apps. I actually love the ability to disable ois in proshot and the very nice ui. It is indeed a shame that samsung didnt pay more attention to fix buggy camera api 2. I really like the stock app in MM it has pretty much everything and im very happy with it but the phone camera couldve been even more perfect than it already is with proper support for custom camera apps :/

Does this happen in S7 or S6E+ Marshmallow?
Yesterday I borrowed my friends LG G4 and found out they still have best implementaion of camera2 api.
Smasung photos will have always have grennish yellowish tint.

Still haven't been able to get the MM update on my S6, but from other reports I hear it still might be there.
I use ProShot and I get blurry shots on my S6 but to be honest some pictures come out awesome, as if shot using a DSLR, and some it's just too soft. It's not the dev's fault, it's Samsung's.
I use ProShot on my LG G4 also and it doesn't have an issue with that. Noise Reduction removal is better in the G4 as well. In the S6 you see some type of weird over sharpening effect.
What I love about ProShot (with low noise reduction) is that it removes Samsung's over sharpening effect and extreme contrast so pictures come out natural.

Here's the interesting thing, when you disable noise reduction on the S6, the pictures are sharp and not blurry.

There is a app called cinema 4k which also uses camera2 api. It didn't work on marshmallow so i had to downgrade to lollipop, after downgrading it worked without any problems

Thats because when you downgraded the camera api 1 was used by the app bu default instead of camera api 2

I'm on stock marshmallow with the august security patch. According the the manual camera test app my phone does not have raw capabilities. What could be causing this? (I can capture raw with the default camera app just fine)
4k issue on galaxy s7 shots 3264x2448 instead of 3840x2160 using Proshot. Please fix this. No 60fps for FHD option as well.
I have been wading through all the YouTube videos trying to get an idea if the ZTE Axon 7 will be my next phone and I find this
I am totally suprised at how good the OIS / EIS is working and it looks to me very similar to the S7 and iPhone 6s+ stabilisation.
If anyone has the phone please let us know what you think and if you can post some video capture in 1080p that would be great to.

I don't know as in the UK it's still not released yet
OIS is hardware and EIS is the electronic image stabilisation in the software. It looks floating like an iPhone or Samsung s7 but I would compare it more to the iPhone 6s plus but as someone already commented it is hunting for focus too much. Let's hope we can lock focus at least until they release the promised updates.....lol. Zte updating a phone. I think we will have more luck with custom roms if they unlock the bootloader!
The OIS is performing so well wow. Some of the other videos show really bad performance, wonder if its part of a new update?

OK it is clear that EIS is software solution for the problem. I don't know too much about phone cameras but look at this article.

The phone has both OIS and EIS, that's why the "dual OIS" part should say "dual IS". Both OIS and EIS mechanisms are built into the sensor module, but while EIS is performed on the sensor, the OIS is performed by the SoC taking the reading from the 2-axis gyro (haven't seen any specs indicating more than that) and driving the (most likely VCM) motors in the module.
The auto-focus hunt in the video is too much, hope it can be locked, it made me nauseated
No info on what sensor it is now that is interesting. Knew the glass would be cheap but that's the way it goes on a cheap phone.
Overall looks quite good to me compared to the op3.
The pocket now review found that OIS is not so good and if you enable EIS, it gets worse. In the end they called it ambitious but flawed.

Hello everyone!
I watched this video from Total Tech on youtube back in January, it was Qualcolm demonstrating the new video stabilization abilities of the Snapdragon 835. It had me rather hyped, as it seemed like a huge upstep from last years stabilization for the 8xx series.
Does anyone know what happened to it? Was this exposed as a sham? Or was it some sort of super OIS+ EIS combo that was on display?
Other SD 835 phones like the Samsung S8 , HTC U11and Xiaomi something or other, don't appear to have EIS 3.0 judging from the quality of the video stabilization from the camera samples I have seen. This is what makes me think something is up with EIS 3.0 rather than the manufacturers failing to implement it in. with their phones.
Do you think we will eventually see a software update that includes some form of EIS 3.0? Similar to how we got that significant video stabilization upgrade like we got on oxygen 3..2.7 or 3.2.8 on the oneplus 3?
Does anyone have any supplemental information about EIS 3.0?

I was interested in this phone (x722) because its crazy cheap for what it offers, but at the same time I am interested in a phone with a good video recording (with stabilization) so before buying I wanted to check.
I was wondering if anyone having the x722 and having installed a custom rom and the GCam port, could tell me how it stabilizes, in which settings (4k, 1080) and if its possible to record 1080/60fps videos aswell?
If some nice person around here would do some test and check if it stabilizes video well and can record 1080/60 it would be great.

I don't have proof, but people like the camera when they're using it with the modded Gcam. 60fps recording should work with modded Gcam, but it doesn't work normally, i.e. with the stock camera or OpenCamera, despite giving you the 60fps recording option. The IMX298 takes decent 60fps, nothing special. About on par with the iPhone 6. But I don't think you get video stabilization at all. You'll have to stabilize it yourself in Google photos or something.
Source: I owned a Zenfone 3, which has the same sensor.

The OP3T has pretty good electronic stabilization and uses the same IMX298 sensor aswell, so its definitely not a sensor problem in your Zenfone.
The LeEco pretty much has the same capabilities as the OP3/3T, it should be perfectly doable
I don't know, I guess the app would have to give you the option for stabilization. I just tested video recording on my phone and it doesn't have stabilization. I used Open Camera. I'm not rooted so I can't try the modded Gcam.

Could someone in general post pictures and videos taken on the X722 with gcam? I am thinking of buying this Phone.
Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the Xiaomi Mi 10 come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.

I have never seen better video recordings than on the Mi 10 so far. 4K @60 fps is gorgeous in terms of sharpness, colors & artifact handling.
The video bitrate @4K is at 38 Mbps.
At 8K it has insane 104 Mbps.
The stabilisation is also remarkable.
I wonder what the Samsung S20 devices are capable of?

could you try testing if HDR is enabled on mi 10 pro? try shooting a video of sunset or very high contrast scene, if you can try, plz provide a comparison between non hdr phone?

At the moment I only have the Mi 10 at home.

In some samples on youtube, I saw that 4k60 isn't fluid and drops some frames. The same it was on mi 8, but using gcam 4k60fps works quite well - much better than native cam app. Would be interesting to hear if somebody uses Filmic Pro / Mcpro24fps on Mi 10 to comment if there's some video quality increase and stability using 3rd party apps?

Video quality is actually one of the best I have ever seen on an android phone (iPhone is the king of video in my opinion) at least on the main sensor (the wide angle is very, very dark and it can't do 4k60 on native camera, only 4k30 or 1080p60) . I'm on Miui.eu beta and, at least for me, 4K60 is very fluid. But is important to say we don't have electronic image stabilization at 60fps (at any resolution) so the video is gonna be a little shaky using only optical stabilization.
Filmic pro is incapable of using the wide angle or the macro lenses, only the main one (mi9 can use all of them with the last updates of Filmic Pro), but it can do 4k60 and 1080p120. You can enable OIS, EIS or even EIS+OIS on Filmic, but EIS seems to be doing nothing actually even if you enable it. Apparently it does not works yet. I appreciate the manual controls Filmic gives you, but since Mi10 already have a manual mode for video and other advanced options like a very good LOG mode, the only real benefit of using filmic is the higher bitrate, except if you want really manual precise controls.

Interesting to know about the sensors availability on Filmic Pro. For Mi Note 10, I send request to devs through the app: information -> version x.xx.x (click) -> and press contact us (after that you will be guided to email, the app will generate metadata.json file and please write to FilmicPro devs to look up for possibility of enabling additional sensors. Thanks to Filmic Pro team they helped me and with latest update gave additional (ultrawide/tele) sensors option to use with Filmic Pro. Hope this would be with Mi 10's ultrawide camera too!

EIS works interestingly, but if there's not much camera movement, I would say the quality is fine. Also can use much higher bitrate without loss of quality (native camera's app bitrate is equal for 30/60fps).
Also would be interesting to see a comment from a person, who also tried the mcpro24fps on Mi 10 - does it let to use ultrawide camera, and availability of 4K60.

Answering your questions, yeah, I have tried a couple Gcam mods for photo and video (specially for night sight on front facing and ultra wide lenses, since Mi10 doesn't let you use might mode on front facing camera. It didn't let you use it on ultra wide neither, but xiaomi added night mode on ultra wide with an update).
At the moment, I have installed Urnyx and Nikita gcam mods. Urnyx surprisingly let me record 4K60 on the ultra wide (can't do that on native camera) but with no stabilization of any kind. And it freezes if I try to enable 60fps on the main sensor. Nikita let me actually use the main sensor at 4K 60 with EIS but it isn't even half as good as the native one, It's only a little better than using OIS only. Nikita by the way freezes when I try to use ultra wide sensor.
About mcpro24fps, there's not much to say. It can do 4k 30 on the main camera with OIS, EIS or both OIS+EIS. It can do 1080p120fps too, but for some reason it won't let me do 4K60 in any way on main camera. By the way, they just added support for the Macro and Ultra wide lenses on Filmic Pro's lastest update.
