"LG G Pad 5" 10.1 ROMs - G Pad 10.1 General

LMT600VS version PICKED UP ONE OF THESE FOR FOR SUPER CHEAP,
SO FAR I MANAGED TO FIX THE ISSUES, BUT THIS DEVICE IS FULL OF VERIZON CRAP IN NEED OF ROOT.
ITS NOT EASY TO FIND THE .KDZ FOR THESE, BUT I THINK I MAY HAVE.
ANYONE HERE INCLINED TO TRY TWEAKING A KDZ FILE SO ROOT MAY WORK ?

I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT DE-COMPILING A KDZ, BUT THAT'S NEVER STOPPED ME BEFORE, PLUS IF I SCREW IT UP, THE TABLET ONLY COST 13 DOLLARS.
WILL SHARE THIS, THESE TABLETS HAVE MASSIVE BATTERIES, HOLY SMOKES!
(IF YOU DECIDE TO TAKE ONE APART, REMOVE THE TWO SCREWS AT THE BOTTOM, AND GENTLY PRY THE ALUMINUM BACK OFF STARTING AT THE BOTTOM. THERE IS A HEAVIER NUB AT THE TOP, AND I SUPPOSE ITS POSSIBLE TO BREAK THE SCREEN IF YOU STARTED AT THE TOP.
WEIRD INFO- THERE IS A JUMPER ON THE MAINBOARD FOR "BOOT" , NOT SURE WHAT THIS IS FOR, BUT LOOKS LIKE A TEST POINT.
PS: THE BATTERY IS HELD IN WITH DOUBLED SIDED TAPE, WARM THE SCREEN UP , 90f TO 100 (HOT PLATE) BEFORE TRYING TO REMOVE IT, OR YOU WILL RUPTURE THE LI-PO.

This thread isn't for the Verizon version.
Also, the all-caps motif is obnoxious and rather unnecessary.

i apologize for the caps,
the link above , took me to the VZ version, but it was also listed on the site. (looking under about software,- this matches my Verizon branded tablet- but.. ,my device was bought on auction, not in the store)
from what information i have found, it seems that all the 600 series are same hardware wise, so would flashing a WIFI only KDZ bring any issues, besides no longer working cell ? (i picked up this device, brand new with a factory defect, that i fixed. i have no plans to use it cellular)

I have no idea. I don't have access to any firmware files, KDZ, etc, for any variant of the tablet.

Any chance you found a case for this thing with a hand strap on the back? Just like your post for new device thread, doesn't seem popular enough... whhyyyyy

Not that I know of. Would need to be able to unlock the bootloader.

Hi
I have also lg gpad 5 - t600 . I am looking for some updated lightweight firmware for it like CyanogenMod. Is there any development done for this lg gpad. Currently it has android 9.0 and stock firmware lacks many features.

haven't seen much on any forum for these devices GPAD 5 , but they are starting to show up on EBAY for less than 100 bucks, ( seen a few for 60-80 ) so that makes them a deal. its sad LG got out of the market , as they seemed to be the last company to take risks on new types of devices.

Hi. I hope I'm not disturbing you. I have unlocked the bootloader and root through the abl of the project sample, do you need to try it?

[Q] Should I update my Asus table first if I want to root it or not?

I just ordered a refurbished Asus tablet (the 16 gig one) from Tiger Direct and it says it will come with Honeycomb 3.0.
Now I looked around the message boards at the different rooting methods and its all much different then what I'm used to with rooting android phones.
I don't plan on putting new roms on the tablet, just other things like downloaded apps without going through the market.
Should I do the OTA update first before rooting or just root and not update? And which method is the easiest root method?
also to put apps on the tablet that say I downloaded from a website, does the tablet have to be rooted for that or not?
Sorry for all the questions, I just don't want to mess this up.
Has nothing to do with ur question but..i was thinking about buying one from tigerdirect also..if u dont mind..when u get it could you post the condition it came in and how u like it..
I wouldn't update. Just flash a rom and go from their. The roms that are on this site are awsome
I will do. I should get it early next week.

Well I wasn't really wanting to go through the process of flashing a rom. But are there any roms that will give more features then what already comes with the pad?
oops didn't realize I wasn't suppose to post a question here. sorry.
The currently used root expoit only works on 3.2.1 so i would update to there. You will probably have to use vipermod or Nachoroot to root it depending on the serial number if it is B70 or lower use NVFlash to flash your first rom straight out without updating if it is B80+ then you need to update before you root
Edit: roms add a lot of speed, overclocking, addblocking, and different extra features depending on the rom you chose.
And no you do not need to be rooted to install apps you download from the browser, see "sideloading"
Ahhh ok thank you!

I bought one refurbished for $299 last week. Got it within two days!
There is one really small scratch on the top corner of the case and a very tiny (< 1mm) dent on the edge of the bezel. Most of these cosmetic issues are not noticeable unless you are actually looking for it. The screen is perfect. There are no other flaws with the device. I would test all the mechanical and electrical stuff once you get it (cameras, connectors, radios, light sensor, etc).
The box comes only with the tablet and the charging/usb cable.
Also, I'm going to leave it un-rooted and with the stock ROM until ICS (hopefully). If ICS never shows up for it, then I will root and custom ROM.

Marshmallow H815520A available on LG Bridge for TWN

checked devtester http://devtester.ro/projects/lg-firmwares/country.php?country=Taiwan
and sure enough there's a new firmware when I checked LG Bridge.
No OTA notification for me yet though
if only we could root
Absolutely no interest in Marshmallow unless we finally get a bootloader unlock for the TWN variant.
Absolutely love my G4, but I have no respect for their decision to simply ignore the wishes of developers/people who want to use their phone how THEY want.
Poor form LG, poor form indeed.
Weirdly it was there Last night on my netbook but it refused to Work as it didn't have enough ram available. Today on Work computer it said no update available! Looks like they pulled it again
And when I tried again just there now again it's gone! Update withdrawn: AGAIN!
is there any KDZ available that we could flash using LGUP?

Same! I absolutely love my G4 but bcoz of this ridiculous decision of theirs I will never buy another one and will steer everyone I know away from them. The way they are carrying on you would think they were worried everyone in the world wants to unlock their bootloaders but it's only enthusiasts and devs, the very people they should be making happy as it's us that spreads word of mouth recommendations. Which is the best form of marketing. I updated to MM bcoz I've totally lost faith in LG and got sick of waiting for either them to have a change of heart or devs to come up with a solution (which LG will probably try and thwart). I'm joining the Nexus army!
i see the update available in mac versions of lg bridge but not the pc version. it goes through the whole download process and then the update fails on two separate macs. pretty frustrating.

Man don't even bother flashing marshmallow onto your phone. It's not what you think it is. I did flash using LGUP and what a mistake it was too flash the marshmallow kdz. You only get half the screen on time compared to lollipop. So hold of until they sort the issues out

Thank you for your advice.
It's much more smoother and no bugs that I encounter so far, a few days needed for doze mode to kick in. I highly recommend it, you won't regret.
I do think if they pulled it (or aren't ready to release and someone accidentally pushed it out prematurely) then it's for a reason. If they have it ready then why would they hold it back? I'll let them continue to bug test and i'll get it when ready. Lollipop is still fairly new and without better battery life I don't see the point of marshmallow at this point.

If 10k was 0, then yes, you can't go back to 10k without bricking your phone.
Definitely waiting on this if can't go back
Any idea to when we'll have this implemented in ROM's like WETA?

Jeez. Luckly im in WETA Rom 10k update i dont think im planning to restore to factory just to move to 10p. I have the feeling LG will becoming like Samsung and the Knox system. Given the fact that they are already making the LG V30 to be more like the other flagships (no removable battery and all that) or we dont have to go that far, we can already see it on the g6. They are practically doing the same thing that samsung did. From Samsung galaxy s1 to s5 it was removable battery and there were some features that are not present anymore from the s6 to the present s version. Same thing with the Note series. Now if we take a look at LG, from LG G1 to G5 it was removable battery among other features that are not found any more from the g6 to probably the possible g version. Same thing happens with the V series. From V10 to V20 it is removable battery among other features that wont be found anymore on the V30. Rumors are there wont be a second screen on the V30 (and i thought that's one of the things that made the phone different from other flagships). But well... If they are making changes to external and some internal things to make it look like other flagships, why wouldnt they apply somethig like knox too new updates or for the brand new LG V30 about to come? . Lets see when the V30 actually comes out,
got the kdz for 10p update will upload in a bit

I might have the solution for root. But I need someone who can test it out for me.
If you are on "H91810p" and have your bootloader unlocked (if not I can tell you how to do it), let me know so that I can walk you through the steps. It going to be bit involved so not for first timers.

I only need one person for now. I will try it on my phone but I don't have my bootloader unlocked. I could unlock it but it will wipe everything on my phone in the process which I don't want to do right now. I'm 99% sure that this method will work on 10p.

Question about s8 active

I'm looking to buy an s8 phone. The active seems really nice to me as I hate the regular s8 display and prefer the flat display of the active. My Question is whether or not I can root the active using the regular s8 method. There seems to be very little info about this phone unless I'm just not looking in the right place. I'm not really sure how similar these phones are on the hardware and software side.
Honestly, the S8 active is the first phone I've had that I haven't really felt a NEED to root. Theming is there, (specialized substratum version for Samsung), can be mostly debloated via adb, battery life is amazing out of the box. There is a thread for some small mods to remove things like the carrier label in the status bar add well.
But, like you've said, there isn't a lot of info on it in the regular S8 forums. I've wondered the same things, but haven't found d any definitive answers yet. Hardware wise, I belive they are nearly identical, aside from the display being flat and not curved. No curved screen, so the screen edge specific apps and functions aren't there either. Battery has a higher capacity, 4000mah opposed to 3000mah for regular s8, I get average of 9hr SoT with average use.
The hardware is identical inside unless you count the screen, of which I prefer the Active's screen personally. I got mine a week ago and love it. It's rugged without looking like a tank I've managed to knock it off my work table twice already to a cement floor which is about 3 feet with not a single mark left on it.
The huge battery is great and lasts more than a full day with constant usage(music/reddit/games) which is a big plus.
I would like to see the dev community pick it up but like rjyoung00 said, you almost don't even need to root the thing.
there are plenty of software reasons to root despite the hardware being great. Im in the same boat as OP, I got the S6 active day one expecting a root since the S6 had one but it was released with an update that made it unrootable. Now I don't want to be in the same boat
galaxy s8 active has almost perfect hardware and absolutely awful software, (Samsung stop already put your trashy software from your devs with broken hands, why the f... is it so hard to put AOSP with root at least as an option !! )
I cannot live without unlocked bootloader, root, AOSP, xposed. This is the major reason I am still using my Nexus 6.
Really hope that devs will find the way to get all necessary software otherwise this beautiful phone is dead.
My question is can you flash the unlocked firmware on it like the others. Would love to know if anyone would try. I'd like to use it on vzw.

I don't think it's possible to brick using odin, and locked bootloader. If it goes wrong, just flash original firmware, to get going again. But don't trust me. Do some research. And best not to try without having original firmware.
Duplicate Post
Broke down and purchased stock G892A firmware so I could mess around in ODIN, couldn't get any of the ulocked or carrier G950U files to flash (firmware, eng boot, combo) using standard or modded ODIN.
Uploaded the stock firmware to my drive and shared in another thread so others could mess around too. [emoji41]

Youre right, I said that the g950u files wouldn't successfully flash on the g892a, which was the original question.
Also, someone else suggested not trying it until the g892a files were available. So I mentioned that I bought those files and made them available.

H910 to H915 OREO Easiest way...?

Hey guys... long time since i posted here. I still have my V20 H910 and i want to upgrade it to Oreo. ATT sim in phone will not show or allow any updates (says up to date) So i been trying to see what would the easiest way to flash H915 (All that ATT bloat gone) while still being able to use LTE? (Phone is now unlocked so i wont be on ATT)
I have been looking at all these guides but i seem to be getting mixed answers...
Can anyone point me down the right path? I saw somewhere that the H915 OREO KDZ is all you need while others say you need to root and patch the modem... So confused...
Appreciate it!
The only way is to install the 915 kdz with lgup and then root the phone with dirty Santa method. (install twrp, somewhere here in the forum) then you can flash the AT&T oreo.zip (also here in the forum somewhere) with twrp. You have to go with these two steps because there is no official oreo kdz provided by AT&T. Then your phone is absolutely 100% stock h910 oreo with no root and no failure message while booting . That the only way I know. I also did it. Goodluck mate! It's worth it. My LG V20 is the only phone I would say it was absolutely Worth it to upgrade to a newer android OS. I usually dont install updates on smartphones. My s9+ for example is still running with oreo thank God.

Thanks for the post - I was wondering, what would you say were the main benefits of moving up to Oreo? Up until I bought a few Li-Po batteries I figured I might as well give it a go as the battery life was SHOCKING anyway and I'd most likely end up selling the phone so I had nothing to lose, but now I've gone from 2-3.5 hrs SOT to 5.5-7.5 hrs and I'm really happy with the phone.
Like you I'm generally reluctant to upgrade phones as there do tend to be bugs that crop up and battery life can take a hit which, for me, negates the minimal gains I'd receive with the features of the new OS (in this case, the option for some camera mods in GCAM).
I've also started using a couple of App-only bank accounts so leaving my phone rooted isn't an option (I use them for travelling so I don't get charged for international exchange rates etc).

Thanks for the post - I was wondering, what would you say were the main benefits of moving up to Oreo? Oreo is speedier and supports LDAC. Actually that's it. At least for me. . GCam is also working with nougat btw.

Speedier? Is it noticeable in general use?
I just looked up LDAC - I tend to go for quantity over quality when it comes to listening to music on the move (I travel for 4-8 months a year so I try and download as much as I can to my device to negate the impact of poor wifi).
Yes, I have GCam on mine but it's the later stuff, the "night sight" that I'm interested in and it seems that only works on Oreo

Night sight is not good on the LG V20 oreo. My phone starts to lag and colors are not realistic. No generally you won't feel the difference. So if you are afraid of rooting it bc you are not a big tech guy. Just leave it and use nougat

Ah right, so night sight isn't working very well for you? Combine that with the speed increase not being overly dramatic and I think my decision is made - thanks for your input, much appreciated.
But no, it's not because "I'm not a big tech guy" - I've been using xda for years - my first smart phone was a used HTC HD2 that I switched from window to Android and then had it running natively from the sd card I've had 3 Samsung's that have all had a decent level of work done on them, the reason I'm reluctant to root the V20 is as I mentioned, I don't want to risk the banking apps being screwed up or the battery life taking a hit .
For once I might just resist the urge to tinker to possibly make a phone that works well, work a little better and then running into all kinds of annoying issues!

But like I said in my first post. If you install the official oreo att zip with twrp, the root will be undone and the Bootloader will be locked again! So banking apps should work again! My oreo is absolutely stock now.

Yes, I understood that, but there really isn't any reason for me to do that and upset how the V20 is working at the moment - I've NEVER had a process involving rooting a device go without a hitch (I must be super unlucky!) so I'll just leave well alone. If I had a second device I'd most definitely give it a go.

Hi, im thinking of doing this on my v20 that currently has LOS16 on it but the camera is not working and the battery life is horrendous. can you tell me if the hotspot works using this method, thats the main reason i changed from stock.
This is rather extreme to get a phone updated. If you are in the US, you just have to borrow or order an AT&T SIM to get your phone updated. This might even work outside US, but I don't know.
