Internet while connected to local WiFi - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Samsung allows a phone to use it's mobile network to connect to the internet while it is also connected to a non-internet wifi connection. That doesn't seem to work with my OP 8 Pro. I contacted their support and they told me to try Dev Options and turn on Mobile Data Always Active and Aggressive Handoff.
I turned on Mobile Data, but the other setting does not exist (I've got 11.0.5.5). Replies to their support have gone unanswered.
When I connect to a local WiFi device (without internet) the phone will popup a notification informing me that it does not have internet connectivity and allow me to choose if I want to stay connected or not. If I say no, it drops the connection. If I say yes, I stay connected to the local WiFi, but cannot access the internet (mobile data is on and has signal).
I'm not sure why this is so hard.
Has anyone figured a way around this there are lots of times when it's necessary to be connected to both especially with devices like marine navigation systems.

Basic query - wireless internet settings 02 Atom

Apologies but I am verynew to the Atom and networking. Could somebody please assist with a simple to follow list of steps for me to connect to the internet at an internet cafe. I turn on the wifi and it will generally stay on for a short time but when I try to use internet explorer to get to gmail (or any other site) it comes back with a message that the connection was lost. I know there was no problem with the wireless connection in the cafe as my pc was downloading at the time. many thanks
Hi,
First of all, are you able to connect to the Internet from your device at home?
....or is it the case that you don't have an access point at home and simply want to connect to the Internet from an Internet cafe or WiFi hotspot?
Generally, if you have correctly configured (set-up) your Atom correctly, to connect, using WiFi, that setup should still work outside of your home, assuming you have a free WiFi hotspot. The only difference being that this time, it is not using your own access point. All you need to do is simply to connect (as you were doing).
The same goes with an Internet cafe, as long as the routers in the Internet cafe are setup to allow connectivity from un-named devices (such as your Atom), in adition to connectivity from their own specific computers (hence you were able to download, using the computers at the Internet Cafe).
The keyword here is OPEN - be it at an Internet cafe, WiFi hotspot or whatever. It's got to be open (and free), before you can connect and surf the Internet, like you were trying to do.
Failing that, you'll have to subscribe to the service provider before you can use their WiFi hotspot (e.g. at an Internet cafe, Macdonald's, hotel, airport) or any other public place.
Your device should be able to see all nearby networks. It should also indicate the strength of the signal according to the number of bars next to the network. Additionally, it will show, by way of a padlock, that it is a secure network. No padlock means it is an open one.
If there are open networks within your vicinity that do not require authentication, with a strong signal, then all you need to do is to click connect and you're on - away and surfing.
However, if the signal is weak, (assuming that it does not require authentication), then, you simply would not be able to connect to that network.
Try and figure out from here, as to why you weren't able to connect at the Internet Cafe.
Hope this helps.

Control internet usage outside Wifi

I am proud owner of HDC HD2
Would like to be able to control mobile bill... in other words control applications that try to reach internet when there is no WiFi. I would like to do all the sync once Wifi is available, and be offline when there is no WiFi. If I really need some internet connection once outside home or office, I could then "allow internet access via 3g, Edge, etc"
The problem is that I do not know which application currently tries to use internet when I am not on WiFi. I did not set up any of applications to do that, so it seems one of them does it silently. I noticed it once my SIM card cash balance reached zero. Evertyme it tries to connect to internet via other means than WiFi I get SMS from mobile provider reminding that my balance is too low to perform operation
Is there any way to figure out what application is trying to use internet? or to put some global On/Off for ineternet outside Wifi usage?
This works great

Internet Connection

Hello,
I'm confused by the internet connection of my Topaz. I have set it to connect to 'my work network' so there is no internet connection possible over 3G/gprs/edge, but only when i'm connected to my computer over usb. When I don't set my phone like that, my experience is that it connects to the internet like all the time (with huge costs from my provider as a result)
On my past phones (regular phones), I used to have the internet enabled all the time, there wasn't even an option to turn it off I guess. They only went online when I opened the webbrowser and it disconnected edge automaticly when closing.
With my current setting on my topaz (work network) I can't update my status on facebook or twitter as it can't connect, and that's a bummer. But I can't turn it on because then it keeps connected all the time and my bill rises incredibly fast in one day.
How do I set my device so that the weather and all other automatic things can't connect to the mobile internet, in a way that the device only connects when I start to browse or update my status, and disconnects right after that? I don't want to disable weather totally because I still want to allow it updating through my USB connection.
I know there is a button 'Data connection' in the communication manager, but turning it off still doesn't do anything, i can still connect to the internet. When locking the device I can choose terminate connection, but it reopens automaticly.....
I simply don't want any data being transfered behind my back.

Use LTE while connected to WiFi Camera

So, I recently got a camera that connects to my phone via WiFi to use as viewer. When connected to the WiFi camera, I can't surf the internet. I figured when the phone didn't detect internet connection through the WiFi it would use the mobile/LTE connection for internet. This seems to not be the case. Does anybody know of a way to force using the mobile/LTE connection while the phone thinks it's connected to a WiFi network? Thanks in advance.
Put the wireless camera on a network and get remote access to it or use download booster which should work as a back up internet
Thanks for the suggestion. I can’t put the cam on the network, it doesn’t have an interface. All settings need to be adjusted through the phone. It’s a Xiaomi MiSphere.
Download booster, on the other hand, is worth looking into. I took a hiatus from Android for a while, just got back into it with the GS8 so relearning things.
If I understand your question correctly, the phone connects directly to the camera via WiFi. So as far as the phone can tell, the camera is a router with no internet connection.
I have the same problem.. I need to connect to my car via WiFi without internet connection, but I want to stay online via mobile network. It has worked well on my previous OnePlus 3 with the stock rom, but SGS8+ doesn't support this feature. I have tried to turn on "Keep Mobile data turned on" option in "Developer options", but it isn't helpful. The Mobile Data is on while connected to the WiFi, but the Internet connection doesn't work via Mobile network. Google Chrome and all other apps say, I am offline without the Internet.
Any solution?
Any possible solution for this issue?

Intranet access not working if mobile data enabled?

Hi all,
When connected to a WiFi network (isolated intranet, no internet access), Android seems to assume it's useless, and directs all data through the 3G/4G network.
For example:
- 3G/4G mobile data enabled.
- WiFi enabled, connected to intranet and is allocated a 192.168.4.xxx address.
- Android detects WiFi connection has no internet access, so i get the WiFi logo with the X through it, and a notification saying so.
- I open the web browser on the phone, try to connect to http://192.168.4.1, which times out as Android is trying to connect to that site via the mobile network.
- So I disable mobile data.
- Now when I open the web browser on the phone, try to connect to http://192.168.4.1, the site loads as it should.
It appears Android is trying to be too smart for its own good, and just completely disregards the WiFi connection if internet access isn't present.
Does anyone know how to fix this so it follows normal packet routing rules?
Thanks.

Hello
When you have activated the mobile data and you are on a intranet Android it´s smart and connect you to internet. I know that it a very boring thing but is an system specification. I´m a IT admin an on my enterprise occurs the same. The only possible solution is to shut down mobile data if it not neccesary and connect to the intranet both things are not possible.
Best Regards
