Internet Connection - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Hello,
I'm confused by the internet connection of my Topaz. I have set it to connect to 'my work network' so there is no internet connection possible over 3G/gprs/edge, but only when i'm connected to my computer over usb. When I don't set my phone like that, my experience is that it connects to the internet like all the time (with huge costs from my provider as a result)
On my past phones (regular phones), I used to have the internet enabled all the time, there wasn't even an option to turn it off I guess. They only went online when I opened the webbrowser and it disconnected edge automaticly when closing.
With my current setting on my topaz (work network) I can't update my status on facebook or twitter as it can't connect, and that's a bummer. But I can't turn it on because then it keeps connected all the time and my bill rises incredibly fast in one day.
How do I set my device so that the weather and all other automatic things can't connect to the mobile internet, in a way that the device only connects when I start to browse or update my status, and disconnects right after that? I don't want to disable weather totally because I still want to allow it updating through my USB connection.
I know there is a button 'Data connection' in the communication manager, but turning it off still doesn't do anything, i can still connect to the internet. When locking the device I can choose terminate connection, but it reopens automaticly.....
I simply don't want any data being transfered behind my back.

Internet connection through the USB

I used to have an internet connection through the usb cable, and now I don't after making an unknown change. I can connect to wifi, but wanted to still have usb internet connections as some hotels I stay in do not have wifi. I've been messing around with the setting>connections, but no luck. I am also wondering if any of you Cingular customers have been able to connect with Edge even though you have the WIX blocked for the number. Mines connected and I was wondering if I will be charged.
Not sure how it will be called in an english ROM since I am running O2 GERMANY but you should be able to get this activated under START -> PROGRAMS ... look for an icon what indicates something like INTERNET SHARING. Click on that icon and activate Internet via USB again.
INTERNET SHARING, i just found that today now i am using my desktop thru the 8525.
Actually I am trying to go the other way. I would like the internet from the laptop.
when connected to activesync you automaticly have the laptops network on your pda unless you turned it off
All I get is "Cannot connect with current connection settings." I've tried all the different setting and still can't get an internet connection. Funny thing is that the HTC Home weather updates while connected, but not the internet. The wifi has no problems, but again a hotel might not have wifi.
Hi
I have the same problem, IE will not find any web site either via usb or wifi (ok via 3G) HTC home weather works fine. I then installed Mozilla minimo and I can surf with out problams. I think there must a be a hidden IE setting/registry problem that I don't know how to access

work -> home wi-fi?

When im at work i have access to wi-fi
When i walk home i dont have access to wi-fi
Then when i get home i have access to wi-fi again.
My question is how does it work, i mean at work i connect to work-wi-fi
Then i lose it when i walk home and im not sure the HTC touch HD automatically recognizes the home-wi-fi when i get home, i think it uses the gprs when getting mail etc, unless i tell it to connect to the wi-fi.
I would like it to be automated, so that when theres a wi-fi nearby that it can use, it will use it, and only as a last resort i would like it to use the gprs.
Can anyone explain how the HD does this?
There should be some way to set net priorities like in real windows ...
Actually when you connect to a wifi, the connection settings (e.g. network key etc.) of the network and the network's SSID (i.e. the network's name) is stored in your device. When you are in the range of a stored wifi your device will automatically connect to it (provided of course that you have the wif turned on).
I suggest that once you leave work turn the wifi off and as soon as you reach home turn it back on again.
Hope this helped...
You can check if, and to what wifi network the HD is connected (tap the wireless icon at the top of the screen). If it is connected to your home wifi, it uses that over GPRS. The best and fastest connections always gets priority.
hi,
I think the WiFi turns automagically off after a given time without connection.
In the "J.S. Advanced Configuration Tool" it says "2 min (default)" so i think this is the default system setting for this.
So you leave your work-wifi, walk home without a connection and at home, yor wifi is switched off.
Its possible to set "no timeout" (in "Advanced Config Tool" at least, don't know about a "normal" system-setting for this) but i think your battery will hate you for that
greetings

Disallow mobile connections

Hi,
is there any possibility to disallow your win mo device (touch hd) connecting to the mobile internet even if you for example click on "send/receive" in mail? The only way to stop this that I found out is switching off phone in com manager...
I use wm 6.5 by miri.
By the way my mail program even wants to connect to mobile internet if I've wifi switched on - and mobile internet is quite expensive for me...
Do a search for "NoData", this will install a wee utlility that will enable you to disable your GPRS connection, thus leaving the phone on but no data.
I solved this by setting that only "my" network group of connections was allowed to connect to the internet and in that group I put all my WiFi access points and hotspots.
Everytime I flash my rom though, my phone is quick to waste a couple of € by autoconnecting before I finish setting everything up.

Nodata won't fonction on my device (Rhodium), it crashes when I start it.
Any idea why?
I've got CF 3.5 installed on my device.
In any case, I travel a lot and I have no use for data on the cellphone network so I haven't set it up at all.
I'm assuming my phone won't find which server to use on it's own right?
Pat
Why don't you just remove the internet connection settings if you NEVER want to connect?
Oh wait -- you just said you do not have it set up at all. Now I am confused. Does your phone still establish a connection DESPITE the fact that you do not have it set up (no apn etc)?

Problem with WLAN

I have connected my WM6 Hermes to our WLAN network, but I cannot access the internet. And yes, I am 100% sure I am connected and have put in the WEP key and everything.
When I try to go to a webpage, it says, "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Please check the connection and try again."
So I check the connection and sure enough, I am connected fine.
are you using any proxy's on your internet to connect?
if so, configure them in your hermes
no I don't use any proxies, it is just regular Wi-Fi... when I look under wifi in the Connections section of Settings it says I am connected to my network, and I was playing around with the "Connections" app in that section and I all I could do was edit some stuff about my Media Net or 3G connection.
the icons on the top bar clearly shows what connection is being used as active data connection
the manual describe what each icon mean
you should be able to force it to use other connections then gprs
in
settings->connections->connections->advanced-Select network
alright I got it to work, I disabled some IEEE EAP stuff, but now it only remains connected for like 10 seconds, about long enough for me to open 1 webpage, even though the icon at the top still says my Wi-Fi is used as my active data collection

always connected to internet

My phone is always connected to the internet. The we blue 3g icon is always on the top and I cant get it to disconnect. Is there anyway to have it set to connect only when I want to use it? I have checked the connection settings in the phone settings but I cant see anywhere it says to not auto connect.
I have closed all apps that require the internet like daily brief and turned of alerts from Gmail app then rebooted and its still auto connecting
It does not mean its connected, it just means 3G is avable
