[Q] Necessary to unlock bootloader before rooting ?

Is it necessary to unlock the boot loader for rooting Xperia arc ?
I used x10 mini pro earlier but never had to unlock any boot loaders for rooting it. I bought my Arc today, there are lot of things about it that flew over my head and had birds chirping around my head :d when I started operating it though I used x10 mini pro earlier. Also does rooting the phone(without unlocking bootloader, if possible) mean tampering the warranty of device ?
Please refer to this thread.

And I don't think it would jeopardize your warranty but unlocking bootloader would mostly does.

If you just want to root, then you don't have to unlock if u use Gingerbreak. But if you're going to use custom rom, then yes.

[Request] No need unlock Bootloader for CM

Hello guys,
Like some many peoples i bought last month a xperia sp in a airtime provider. But I view that we can't have Cyanogen-Mod with a bootloader locked . In somes Samsung models we can have CM with just a root. Can developpers do something for have a CM rom with bootloader locked ?
Sorry for my bad english
Thanks
No
Any custom ROM not based on stock need a custom kernel, and for install a custom kernel need unlocked bootloader. So cm for lb is impossible.

Yes i know but I request developpers for unlock bootloaders unofficial or for can install custom rom without unlock bootloader.
This is not possible due to the security of the bootloader of Sony. I have absolute 0 knowledge about this but i think that the bootloader prevent not-properly-signed kernels..

In effect, indirectly it prevent for this.
Jermin94, to install CM, it need a specific kernel, to overclock/underclock per example, but it's for drivers i think too.
If even a locked bootloader CM version will be release, i think you will not got all of features of CM, but it meant be possible : i don't know.
Sorry for my bad english, i'm french
make a TA backup of your phone, including DRM keys before you unlock the bootloader. later on for warranty purposes you can relock the bootloader, and restore the DRM keys and stock firmware etc. i don't know how far the guys at the service center will go to detect whether the phone has been unlocked or not...

alphaz1, That's no good to the OP as his phone is SIM locked to a carrier. That means it will have 'Bootloader Unlock Allowed: NO' in the Service Menu. There is currently no way to change this even if you SIM unlock at a later date (officially or otherwise).
Unless Bootloader Unlock Allowed is set to YES, you cannot enter Fastboot mode (Vol+ and Blue led) to enable entry of the Sony bootloader unlock code. Hence the the only custom ROMs that can be used are those based on the stock kernel - so no CM or MIUI etc.
Moral of the story: if you want to experiment with non-stock kernels and ROMs on an Xperia device, make sure you by a factory unlocked version, not one that is SIM locked or has been subsequently unlocked to allow use of other networks.

As i know for unlock bootloader you need to enter IMEI for get unlock code.. So I think, once you enter that IMEI, sony add it to database. And your RMA depend on your luck
Only my theory.

And because it can't be done, you asking isn't going to make any difference, no matter how much you plead
And this thread has no actual purpose. CM 10.2 might be possible when Sony will release 4.3, but it's not a certain thing.

Since SOL23 is Japanese variant of Z1 with bigger memory (32GB!) and have NFC/Felicia..... and when convert to c690x rom normal process it just lost half of it memory (actually it's hidded from the ROM)
The only drawback is NFC not working....
And NO, you cant add memory to your devices physically (If you want to, search for "download ram" *j/k* )

does this means that this mod is not stable yet? i had about 20pc sol23 here, just hoping the lte will work in malaysia. actually, the stock au rom is fine, not much bloatware/bloat settings. just that it dont have lte in malaysia.

just that i'm in europe, in romania, and here are other band for gsm and lte. on sol23 stock fw was working flowless without 3g, with 6303 fw 4g was working but not the gsm. i put back sol23 stock fw and sold it.
thx 4 the reply. guess ill just leave it as it is..
So let me get this straight...
Doing everything stated restores LTE and international Band functionality and the ability to function as a normal xperia z1 and is able to flash the updated stock roms or flash custom roms?
The sol23 has 32gb storage but the au stock rom forces it to half the storage. By doing this, I get 32gb storage?
Btw is unlocking the bootloader of the sol23 possible?
im trying to flash using methods provided in this thread, but i dont see option to exclude baseband. im on latest flashtool 0.9.19.0
Can i use Asia c6903 ftf instead of the c6903 converted.ftf?

How to modify LTE Carrier Aggregation and enable 256QAM/64QAM on Xperia XZ and XZs

Mostly Sony XZ-series phones have limited LTE Carrier Aggregation bands on per country / provider. You can check here more information about that: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/how-to/lte-carrier-aggregation-combinations-t3577544
I made step by step instruction how to modify on Sony XZ, Sony XZs, Sony XZ Premium and Sony XZ1 LTE Carrier Combinations. Rooted phone required. This instruction should working also with Dual SIM models.
Sony XZ Premium after Android 9 PIE does not work anymore
You can check this on my blog site: https://mt-tech.fi/en/modify-sony-xz-xzs-xz-premium-and-xz1-lte-a-band-combos/
Make sure you make full modem backup and backup all config files to your computer, if need restore configuration.
To try this mod, it should be supported by the carrier also! Is there a way to find out in which countries it's rolling?

Did you mean LTE Carrier Aggregation support? You just should check what band your provider support and then find possible combos on our Google sheets (link on first post).
Many providers also support well 256QAM/64QAM but not every provider yet. There is no list yet.
That's my point... There is no "list". You just try it and see if it's working. But I'm not brave enough to try it -and IF it goes smoothly- see no result because my provider being ambitious in saving money than QoS :/

That should ask from local provider customer service.
When know local LTE bands then know possible CA-combinations.

@olkitu QPST on xz1/xz premium with Android Pie works using the magisk module that you can find here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78919730&postcount=119. On oreo using the driver for xiaomi I had to manually insert the "COM" port, now with the drivers downloaded by windows the phone is autodetected*.
The device used by QPST is "USB\VID_05C6&PID_9091&REV_0404&MI_00". Sometimes with the module enabled the phone says "no service", to solve the problem just enable and disable the "Airplane mode", note that this does not interfere in any way with QPST/QXDM. Obviously you should disable the module after finishing the work.
And thak you very much for your work I still have some doubts about the lte_category file. Analyzing the firmware of many smartphones I understand how the files disable_cap_ies (disable 64qam/256qam capabilities), rrc_capable_plmn_list (limit the plmn that have capabilities not disabled) and the carrierpolicy works, but I found anything about lte_category :/
*In my case qpst is running in windows 7 compatibility mode

olkitu , little bit off topic but at what extent can be done with Qualcomm software to unlock the full potentioal of any phone? Im not talking about LTE and 5G, I mean Bluetooth, GNSS, Wifi, NFC, codecs. Because of the lack of tutorials on how to edit NV items EFS mods its a dangerous game.

Right now I have Havoc 4.13 but I coudn't access the modem. But rolling back the phone to android 8 with the stock rom and using the temp root exploit you can access the modem as described in the tutorial.

LG G6 bootloader unlock is not possible anymore through LG

After succesfully flashing the wonderful LineageOS into my Samsung Galaxy Tab A i was so excited to do the same with my LG G6 H870. Today i set up the connection, wanted to get the bin file from LG developer site and realized they had shut down the site 31. december 2021. Now i am left with locked bootloader
And i believe many people will be sad because of this. Its unfair from LG to remove this option. If they will continue to support a few recent phones with SW updates they also had to leave the bootloader unlock service alive for a few years too.
I dont know if any developer is reading this but would it be possible to find an exploit if we are forced to because of no other options left? Like when devs are reverse engineering licence key validation and then building keygens, so to examine the bin file and the corresponding IMEI, device ID, possibly gather further bin files and IMEI, device ID from other forum members and find the logic behind it?
Could anybody give us hope?
Thank you for your opinions.
I'm in same boat with G5H850. Hope someones finds a solution beacause several LG support answered me they cannot perform the unlock anymore...
I feel so disappointed as it was an automated process that they do not support it anymore.
Is there any other way to flash trwp now? Would firehouse help?
Same to me, I wanted to upgrade an old G6 to LineageOS and got stopped out.
Thank you LG, I won't buy any **** from your company anymore.
So if anyone finds a workaround for this issue, please post a solution in this thread. Tyvm in advanced.

I highly doubt and i would be surprised.
I dont think G6 was such a popular model across the globe. Everybody has moved to the more recent versions and are unlocking them with a special method.
I think its not worth to waste development time on it. Maybe if there could be "keygen" type script to generate the files for every LG model globally.
I am sad btw. I have renewed my galaxy tab a tablet with a nice Lineage and i believe it would boost my G6 as well. I would pay a reasonable price if i could flash a custom ROM into it.

There most likely won't be a new method. The unofficial methods are used through EDL, and the EDL isn't accessable without shorting pins or test points. I'm glad i unlocked mine the day i got it last year.

But that EDL stuff method is for a few newer models only, right? I dont believe it would work on G6 as well. I did not dig into it deeper but as far as i remember its a specifix kernel for the EDL stuff method, chipset is different, partitioning is different, so it wont work on G6. But i might be wrong of course

Yeah, i ment that. Cuz the EDL is basically not made to be accessed on the G6 and lower, there won't be a method.
A responsible company should put out a bootloader unlock code generator while discontinuing its mobile business. Or change the unlocking method to Google pixel's standard way in the last system update, i.e. unlocking via command line
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
.
