How to modify LTE Carrier Aggregation and enable 256QAM/64QAM on Xperia XZ and XZs - Sony Xperia XZ Guides, News, & Discussion

Mostly Sony XZ-series phones have limited LTE Carrier Aggregation bands on per country / provider. You can check here more information about that: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/how-to/lte-carrier-aggregation-combinations-t3577544
I made step by step instruction how to modify on Sony XZ, Sony XZs, Sony XZ Premium and Sony XZ1 LTE Carrier Combinations. Rooted phone required. This instruction should working also with Dual SIM models.
Sony XZ Premium after Android 9 PIE does not work anymore
You can check this on my blog site: https://mt-tech.fi/en/modify-sony-xz-xzs-xz-premium-and-xz1-lte-a-band-combos/
Make sure you make full modem backup and backup all config files to your computer, if need restore configuration.

To try this mod, it should be supported by the carrier also! Is there a way to find out in which countries it's rolling?

Did you mean LTE Carrier Aggregation support? You just should check what band your provider support and then find possible combos on our Google sheets (link on first post).
Many providers also support well 256QAM/64QAM but not every provider yet. There is no list yet.

That's my point... There is no "list". You just try it and see if it's working. But I'm not brave enough to try it -and IF it goes smoothly- see no result because my provider being ambitious in saving money than QoS :/

That should ask from local provider customer service.
When know local LTE bands then know possible CA-combinations.

Maybe you have driver already installed? Open QPST App and see your phone already added automatically?

yes it's that
Thanks you a lot
i can unlock now

@olkitu QPST on xz1/xz premium with Android Pie works using the magisk module that you can find here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78919730&postcount=119. No need to install custom driver, you can use the driver from windows update. I'm saying it to you also because your tutorial is among the first results on Google
Edit: It seems to not work on XZ premium. I was wrong

Thanks for sharing this! I have to put test this Magisk module and then update my blog posts.
This driver is Qualcomm official driver for Xiaomi but yes if you can find it from Windows Update that is good.

On oreo using the driver for xiaomi I had to manually insert the "COM" port, now with the drivers downloaded by windows the phone is autodetected*.
The device used by QPST is "USB\VID_05C6&PID_9091&REV_0404&MI_00". Sometimes with the module enabled the phone says "no service", to solve the problem just enable and disable the "Airplane mode", note that this does not interfere in any way with QPST/QXDM. Obviously you should disable the module after finishing the work.
And thak you very much for your work I still have some doubts about the lte_category file. Analyzing the firmware of many smartphones I understand how the files disable_cap_ies (disable 64qam/256qam capabilities), rrc_capable_plmn_list (limit the plmn that have capabilities not disabled) and the carrierpolicy works, but I found anything about lte_category :/
*In my case qpst is running in windows 7 compatibility mode

I can't get it to work on XZP Pie. Phone shows up in QPST, but as Unknown (No ESN). Same thing without the mod, but by running setprop commands from the shell. Used to work fine on Oreo.

Better buy device from France to support bands and carrier aggregation combinations used in France.

Thank you very much for your response, Olkitu. I am trying to enter qualcomm diagnostic mode, and I cannot. I have done everything you describe in your blog and nothing shows up in QPST. I even tried with the command (setprop sys.usb.config diag, adb), and I can't enter the diagnostic mode either. Do you know how to fix it? Thanks you

olkitu , little bit off topic but at what extent can be done with Qualcomm software to unlock the full potentioal of any phone? Im not talking about LTE and 5G, I mean Bluetooth, GNSS, Wifi, NFC, codecs. Because of the lack of tutorials on how to edit NV items EFS mods its a dangerous game.

Hi xavinaz.. I'm in the same situation as you. Have a docomo xz1 compact and need 20 band.
Have you found any solution ?
Right now I have Havoc 4.13 but I coudn't access the modem. But rolling back the phone to android 8 with the stock rom and using the temp root exploit you can access the modem as described in the tutorial.
But then I'm not be able to unlock the 20 band. So I go back to android 9 and now on havoc

Hello Bob, I have not been able to enable the band 20LTE. I have reviewed many blog and websites, and it is impossible.... I have not found the solution.

Since SOL23 is Japanese variant of Z1 with bigger memory (32GB!) and have NFC/Felicia..... and when convert to c690x rom normal process it just lost half of it memory (actually it's hidded from the ROM)
The only drawback is NFC not working....
And NO, you cant add memory to your devices physically (If you want to, search for "download ram" *j/k* )

And all of the link I provided is not survey, if you see them maybe your pc infected with malware...

does this means that this mod is not stable yet? i had about 20pc sol23 here, just hoping the lte will work in malaysia. actually, the stock au rom is fine, not much bloatware/bloat settings. just that it dont have lte in malaysia.

just that i'm in europe, in romania, and here are other band for gsm and lte. on sol23 stock fw was working flowless without 3g, with 6303 fw 4g was working but not the gsm. i put back sol23 stock fw and sold it.
thx 4 the reply. guess ill just leave it as it is..
So let me get this straight...
Doing everything stated restores LTE and international Band functionality and the ability to function as a normal xperia z1 and is able to flash the updated stock roms or flash custom roms?
The sol23 has 32gb storage but the au stock rom forces it to half the storage. By doing this, I get 32gb storage?
Btw is unlocking the bootloader of the sol23 possible?
im trying to flash using methods provided in this thread, but i dont see option to exclude baseband. im on latest flashtool 0.9.19.0
Can i use Asia c6903 ftf instead of the c6903 converted.ftf?

Docomo SO-02F gets transplanted with D5788 ROM

Sony has just recently announced a SIM-Lock Free model for the Japanese market called Xperia J1 Compact (D5788), which is based on Docomo Xperia Z1 Compact (SO-02F). I'm not sure of the exact differences between the two in terms of hardware, but I have read that the front facing camera is different and the new J1 Compact does not support one-seg TV. Apart from that, the specs regarding CPU, RAM, GPU, etc. appears to be the same.
I was using my SO-02F with MVNO SIM (IIJMio - using Docomo backbone), and I was quite happy with it, but I still had lots of Docomo bloatware that I couldn't get rid of, plus, I had to root to get A-GPS working properly and use adb to get tethering to work.
Since I wasn't worried about losing the one-seg TV functionality, I decided to transplant the D5788 ROM and see what happens.
Although the D5788 has not been officially released for sale yet (April 20th is the due date), I found that I can download the firmware via Xperifirm V4.3. I then proceeded to burn the ROM via flashtool, Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde V0.9.18.5.
I will not be explaining the procedure in detail, as there are many tutorials in these forums that do. There are no magical settings or tricks that you need to be aware of.
In the short time that I have tested the device, everything appears to work normally. I was most concerned about the osaifu-ketai (felica) functionality, but it appears to be working fine. Both the front and back cameras are also working. No more Docomo bloatware but there are some Sony ones, but I can live with those as they are not as intrusive. Finally, the A-GPS and tethering works without going through the hoops.
If you own an SO-02F or SO-04F and using an MVNO SIM, then I would highly recommend you try this mod. If you don't like it, you can always flash back to stock. However, all the usual warnings apply and you do this at your own risk. THERE IS ALWAYS A RISK THAT YOU MAY BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
HI,
does nfc work?
I have an SO-02F, flashed an european tft on it and now there is no seg-tv and no nfc.
Don't care much about segTv but nfc is a bit sad.

I haven't tried the "normal" NFC, but it should work.
The osaifu-keitai (Sony Felica) for such things as Suica, Edy, etc. also works fine.
My apologies.
It seems the osaifu-keitai (felica NFC) doesn't appear to work properly.
It recognizes my balance for Suica and Rakuten Edy through the pre-installed Osaifu-Keitai app, but when I try to run the dedicated Suica or Rakuten Edy apps, it throws an error.
Looks like I will be going back to the original ROM. Perhaps I'll try again in couple of weeks when the Xperia J1 Compact is actually on sale. They may have an updated firmware by then which will resolve this issue.
Again, sorry about the earlier misinformation.
no worries, am waiting for lolipop anyway

make a tutorial how'd you did it. I need it badly. This is my only way to make my ntt docomo so-02f openline.
Thank you so much!!!
hi I have done this. but, in start up, I still see a sim unlock code. is it not openline for all country? is it sim free for japan only?
I don't think this procedure will actually unlock your phone for use with any carrier's SIM. If you want to unlock, you still need to do it some other way.
I just wanted to test this out because I wanted a firmware without Docomo's heavy bloatware, without losing the osaifu-keitai functionality. Otherwise, I could just as easily have loaded an international version of the ROM or the custom ones.
It seems the Xperia J1 Compact is still not complete in regards to osaifu-keitai as it states on the official Sony website (http://www.sonymobile.co.jp/xperia/sp/j1c/index.html) that they are still working on adding full functionality.
THANKS! do you know any other procedures to unlock my device? I really need it badly. I hope there is a way to unlock xperia so-02f ntt DoCoMo locked to any carrier.

Hi,
to unlock you have to go to a docomo shop, they will unlock it for about 3000yen.
If you are not in jp, i heard there are online shops that sell unlock codes
This will only make it sim free, not bootloader: unlock.

I would strongly advise against flashing the Z3 Compact ROM onto your SO-02F. The hardware are completely different and if you go ahead with the flashing, you will more than likely brick your phone.

The J1 Compact is based on A2 (SO-04F) and the A2 is based on Z1f. These 3 devices are virtually identical in terms of CPU, RAM, GPU, etc. Mean while, the Z3c is totally different. It has different CPU, GPU, etc.

Sorry, I'm not sure. I never had the need to SIM unlock my device, so I never really looked into it. I guess it'll be safest to return the device to original first.
If you want more info, just search this website or search on web. I'm sure there'll be a discussion on the subject by someone a lot more knowledgeable than I.

That would be amazing if some one could figure that out. But as I did my research it seems that it's not possible that there's a hardware difference.

Should be the same procedure as the HTC M9 since they're the same processor. And for the prep work (drivers and enabling the modem diag mode) as in this thread for the OnePlus One.

Do the changes to the band stay after rebooting or upgrading the OS to a newer version? I wanted to unlock band 3 as well on my OP2.
I haven't tried writing the modem configuration yet to see if it sticks or not but was able connect the phone and read the configuration from it by following the instructions from the 2 posts I mentioned.
Say if you got Chinese oneplus 2 and changed software on it would it work on bands 20 I've seen this question asked before but can't find the post
Sent from my LG-H815 using XDA Free mobile app
anyone found a way to unlock band 3?
Have a look at this post
I suggest you to keep 3G instead of LTE because battery draining is so faster under LTE Mode. If you stay a place that have a poor LTE signal, that would be your battery killer.

Hi, this research includes some whitepaper research?, Does it actually has different hardware?, just wondering if someone knows this by solid proof?
To know if there is hope for us (Buyers of wrong OP2 version )
I'm using A2005 usa model in India and I'm unable to use it on Airtel 4G in India. When I spoke to the OnePlus customer service they said it will need to replace the motherboard as it's a Hardware issue. I'm waiting for the motherboard to arrive from china as they don't have it yet in India. So basically it's a Hardware issue on oneplus 2 unlike it's ancestors.

They will do it for free? Or what is the charge?
Ok, guys, I`ve unlock NVram to write. Now I can save any values to change enabled bands.
Intruction:
Requirements:
OnePlus 2 with TWRP and rooted.
QXDM Pro, drivers, etc, as described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-unlock-aditional-bands-qualcomm-t2877031
Stock ROM OnePlus2Oxygen_14_OTA_011_all_1512111634.zip.
Attached file.
Just unzip attachment and replace file in ROM OnePlus2Oxygen_14_OTA_011_all_1512111634.zip, in RADIO folder. Flash via twrp.
After boot you will see warning "NV backup corrupted" or something like this, dont worry.
Use QXDM to change band as you want, reboot and check. Voilya. But LTE will not work, because it is hardware issue, lol.
A few words about attached file. I just unzip this file from stock ROM, search AC 1Ah (6828 little endian) and DB 08 (56072, US LTE band) together and replace DB 08 with DF 10. Dont ask, what I did, I dont know, lol. But it is work.

There is easier way to do that without corrupting the backup.
Simply change the value is QXDM.
Then in the phone dial *#268#
Press the NV parameters
Press the Static NV Force Backup.
This will copy the new values to the backup, and they will stick later on.
BTW, to be on the safe side, make sure to backup your dycnvbk, stanvbk and EFS.
Not working for me. Cause com.android.phone crash after dial. May be because my backup is corrupted. Later will try with stock backup. But thank you anyway.
I am using the stock image with the stock phone app.
I am using Mokee, chinese AOSP firmware. BTW, I just erased nv backup partition and keep playing with nv ram. Hope will not brick my phone ))
What version do you have? US/EU/CH?
In case you have EU, cab you PM me with qcn of your device?
Unfortunatelly I have US version.
I know a way to add bands in snapdragon 801 (i did in xiaomi mi note) never tried in OPT since it has all bands i need . but it should be the same. Search google for adding bands in mi note

VoLTE and VoWIFI not working

Hi,
are both features VoLTE and VoWIFI working for you?
I enabled them in Logkit app. Then configured my IMS APN profile and enabled both features in settings.
When in flightmodus with Wifi enabled, calling is impossible.
When connected to 4G and calling, the connection drops to 3G.
No VoWIFI or VoLTE icon shown.
I'm living in Luxembourg with Post provider.
Thanks
Btw: i have the same problem with my Opo7pro.

Working fine here.
Used "com.oem.oemlogkit_1.0-1.apk" and then dial *#800*. Choose "Function Switch" and then mark "VoLTE switch" and "VoWifi switch". Reboot and it's done.
Guys, is the same method working for oos11? Anyone tried?
I tried to activate volte on 8T in Bulgaria A1 (former Mtel).. i can't get it working.
Changed a lot of profiles via PDC, changed a lot of carrier policy files via FFS Explore... no go!
The phone is with latest 11 OOS, unlocked.
My SIM has Volte, the carrier supports it, i get it working by default on other phones when i insert my sim. But this 8T is driving me crazy..

Oxygen OS 11 - No PDC and QPST connection

Hi,
After successful update to Android 11 on Oneplus 8 Pro, I cannot find the modem in PDC tool or QPST as before.
The device was described in Windows devices list as IN2012 without any drivers so I installed manually latest Qualcomm drivers and chose Android Modem 9020 which was recommended by some guys using beta. Unfortunately, I still cannot change modem settings via PDC.
I don't have a root on my phone and would like to stay that way.
Do you have any new guide for Android 11 how to acquire that functionality for changing modem in PDC? Thanks
Hi PDC does not detect my oneplus8 pro running android 11 .. everyone seems in this case, and no solution has been found yet
Envoyé de mon IN2023 en utilisant Tapatalk
That is true I have oneplus 8 pro IN2020, i used to have access to full-port switch and rndis, diag switch before oxygenos 11, now after updating to oxygenos 11, no longer i can access it my computer won't detect it anymore via PDC tool or QPST.
Maybe this isn't what you're talking about, but works fine here (stable 11.0.0).
*#801# to enable full-port switch.
Edit: tested PDC, also working.
Edit2: Missed that no root part. I am rooted and have engineermode enabled, that would probably be the difference.
Same for the IN2020 model that I am using.
Seems like Android 11 or OnePlus themselves are blocking the QPST port, and the only solution so far needs the device rooted.

Hi. The only solution on Android 11 is to be root and use this solution which works very well:

But after using this, with root, i want to unroot and close the Bootlader ... will the changes stay in place?
Absolutely not. The only solution to relock the bootloader is to use the MSM tool. This will cause data to be erased and the bootloader to be locked. Your Oneplus will be reset to factory configuration.
automatically manipulation to activate the volte and vowifi will be lost.
