How do you charge? - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Guides, News, & Discu

There are so many options.
Superfast charging I find amazing. Quick plugin and the phone is back up to about 80% battery in no time at all.
Fast is ok. Just a little slower.
Standard is slow, it just ticks over.
I also notice that it appears to stop charging when the battery is full. Although I've stopped leaving my phone plugged in overnight.
But, I read that superfast might damage the battery and that's why it defaults to off. It's not a quick switch to enable/disable, so it's a decision to have fast or superfast on.
Or is life too short to worry?

Even if super charging would make the battery loose efficiency over time, I don't think it will be a noticeable problem during first owners time with the phone. I will upgrade in less than 18 months and I think most ppl upgrade within 2 years.

Fast wireless charger most of the time, but I did buy a couple super fast wired chargers to scatter around when I'm in a time crunch

Super Fast wireless charging all day everyday. I haven't plugged a cable into a phone since 2018. Battery life is solid so I'm never in a rush to charge a phone. Wireless is quick enough. I love the convenience of just throwing it in the stand without having to find the cable and stick it into the port. Especially in a dark room.

I've not really used wireless charging. So you have 15w wireless pads around the house?

Super fast charge too.
With PPS and the PD standard, it changes its power according to of the actual battery level and temp (and certainly more parameters) to avoid harming it.

I plug in every night, overnight next to my bed. Not fast charging, just regular charge, because it's not needed.
If you don't need to fast charge every day, turn it off. Doing it regularly will degrade long term battery life by a small amount. Both by the method of charging, and by the heat created by fast charging, as heat is bad for the life of a battery.
But all in all, it's not terrible. Just charge it howver you want. It's not going to cause any terminal issues. Just charge it when and however you want to.

I have switched off both Superfast as well as fast charging. Not sure if that will have any impact positive or negative as my opinion is that Samsung didnt go with 40W, 60W so on and so forth charging not because it cant do it (If Oppo,Vivo, Xiaomi can then Samsung definitely can) but as a bigger company they probably wanted to act more responsibly so they must have ensured that their 25W charging has negligible effect on battery and thats why they went with it. Just my 2 cents.

[Fast Charge] Results, observations, testing

So I was a bit skeptical about practical use cases for the fast charging. I made a general observation after the first few days. It's currently completely not scientific. But it seems when I disabled the fast charging, my phone seemed to handle battery life way better. Idk how efficient the energy is when done via fast charge, but I've always heard that a slow steady charge is better for lithiums.
I figured maybe this could cover the impacts of fast charge and whether people have noticed similar things. (Day 4)

Looking forward to your findings!
I disabled fast charge the day I got it. Seems pointless to me since the only time I charge is at night. It's a cool feature if I need a charge in 20 minutes but the note 3 I gave my wife would charge in no time as well.
Battery life is great so far for me.

I've been testing this as well. I leave fast charging on and I'm seeing an easy 14 or so hours off charger with 4 to 5 hours screen time.
Fast charging is incredible. My last charge cycle I recorded was 56% to 98% in 28 min. That's about 1.5% per minute. Though I suspect soome non linearity as it gets closer to 100%.
As far as the longevity of a charge based on regular or Gast charging . There will Likley be no correlation. The charge circuit will handle the incoming current appropriately and the battery is built to handle it. I am a EE and am intimately familiar with battery technology. The charger itself changes its output voltage for fast charging (stepping up the voltage but lowering the current) and I'm at sure there is some software as well as special hardware controls in place to ensure the battery is charging effeciently.
The usual problem with charging batteries too fast is due to heat build up in the battery. However, these new batteries were developed to solve these problems. I wouldn't worry about it.
Here are my results with just over 3 hours of screen time

I love quick charge. Nuff sedd lol!
After a whole day on wifi in the office plus weak cellular signal inside the building destroys the battery, I plug it in for 15-20 minutes and I'm good for a whole night. Love it.

18 hours off battery, 4hrs screen time, and still 19% battery.
I wouldn't care if fast charging destroyed my battery every 6 months. I'd buy another for $20, but it's not going to do that.

Overnight fast charging?

Hiya guys. Long time lurker but gonna pop that cherry today.
Was curious as to how many of you leave this phone fast charging overnight? I know its a smart charger and all that good stuff.
For an hour of charge i dont mind staying up for it since it prevents any damage that may happen. But i mainly do it to baby the battery.
i used the wireless one so it trickle charges and keeps battery in good condition. Fast charging will degrade it faster,

Do you have any proof to back this up?
I've had the Note 4 since January and have been fast charging it over night every day since then and I haven't had any issues whatsoever still running with excellent battery life. I'm now using the S6 Edge+ and wouldn't think it would be a problem. The power cuts out once the battery reaches max so it shouldn't try and fast charge a full battery.

It's a well known fact that fast charging is bad for battery condition. The electrodes degrade and corrode and the higher amps required for fast charging will contribute to the issue. I fast charge my note 3 and I'm on my 3rd battery now and this is starting to show decreased life.

Me too. My Note 4 was always on the fast charger and no obvious signs of deterioration. I am pretty sure Samsung has considered any issues, especially in a phone with a fixed battery, as they put Fast Charging very high on their list of selling point features.
.
I use my fast charger over night and have noticed when it reaches 100% the lightening icon that shows on the battery icon when charging goes away. So there must be some sort of electronic protection built into the phone

Of course it stops charging. Lol
Sent from my SM-G928F using Tapatalk
Yeah. I still have the voice in the back of my head making me not let it charge overnight. The smart charger is nice to know it stops it from charging the battery, but still leaving the chance of having it fail in the middle of the night while its still connected to your phone is worrying to me. Even more that it pumps more voltage like a monster then any other wall charger i have.

New Samsung Wireless Quick Charger

I received the Verizon quick charge bundle yesterday. Quite a deal for the battery, the car charger and the new slanted Samsung wireless charger. It seems like the wireless charger is pretty snappy, but with no replaceable battery, what will using it do to the long term battery life of the S7E?
Is it OK to use it whenever? Like frequently putting the phone on the stand to get it from 90 to 100%? Or leaving it on the stand all day or all night? Any tips on how the wireless quick-charging technology works and its effect on battery life would be much appreciated. Thanks.
I don't remember exactly which thread but someone mentioned that fast charging would also negatively affect the battery over time due to killing the battery cells. Might be in the battery life thread..I slow charge mine overnight and only fast charge using my car charger.

maybe thats why even sammys fast changer is not very powerful??..

How do you treat battery on your 6T?

Since most of us got this phone in last month or so, we obviously want to take most care of it.I was reading online whats the best way to charge the phone, was it to 80% or just go to 100%, so i was wondering how do you guys charge your 6T?
I've always take my battery down pretty low, and then fully charge it with a slow charger. I generally charge my phone at 0.35-0.5 amp. I've always found slow charging my devices I get run time on each charger than I do if I fast charge it. My last two OP devices the Dash charger hasn't even left the box.
I know they say Lithium Ion batteries don't have a memory, but in my experience, they just seem to have less of one than the NiMH batteries did back in the day. To me all batteries work better slow charging them. Even charging my OP6T at 0.5 amp it charges plenty fast enough. It can be charged by the time I leave work, or by the time I get up in the morning.

I was thinking about getting some slow charger but i guess that included Dash charger, which doesnt heat up my 6T nearly at all, wont kill the battery that fast.I'm no expert in this field but i guess heat kills batteries way faster than high current. And since 6T is such an amazing phone, i'm just hoping the battery will last at least 2.5-3 years.

Do you regularly use dash charging or do you slow charge?

So many different opinions online, was wondering how many of you dash charge everyday?
I dash charge everyday lol.

Every day, from 30% up to 85%
Why wouldn't you use dash charging.Think only a very small minority would not for whatever reason
I dash charge about half the time, from 20-80% power. The only reason I don't dash charge 100% of the time is I don't want to buy more of the the expensive cables, so I sometimes use slower chargers I have around the house..
Read that higher movement of electrons in battery due to high charge speed might reduce its longevity. My old S7 lost its battery capacity badly due to fast charging but i think its mostly due to heat.
I only slow charge. Did the same on my 5T. I generally charge my phone somewhere between 0.35-0.5 amps.
To prolong the battery, I've installed BLEX, charging to a max of 90%, and only slow charge at 0.5A at night. I occasionally use the Dash charger that came with the phone if I need a quick boost as needed.
I use only Dash charger from OnePlus 3. Now on op6T i charge every 3 days, with Dash charge.

Since you have a long history with OnePlus phones, what can you say about the battery quality and its longevity.I'm curious how much can i expect my 6T to last.
I've been dash charging since the release of the phone and haven't came across any problems thus yet. But I do understand that rapidly charging the battery isn't good for the battery itself, but you shouldn't see any significance wear on the longevity of the battery within 2 years. And in most cases, we all upgrade to a different device in that time frame.:good:
I use my phone all day so when I get home I dash charge it for about 30 minutes (until it reaches about 85% - 90%) then I run YouTube at night and the next morning I put it on dash charge until it hits 100% while I get ready.
Slow. I've used fast charge maybe a couple times when I was in a hurry. Otherwise, I prefer slow charge.

why not charge it till 100% ?
Use dash charge at home sometimes.
Overnight, regular, no dash.
In the car, typically no dash.
At the office, no dash.

Always charging to 100% causes higher stress on the battery and shortens its life and capacity. The theory to maximize battery life actually recommends charging/discharging between 80% and 25% only. I'm already compromising by charging to 90% since I need the capacity for longer run time.
I mostly just charge my phone every other day up to ~70% at a time I'm at my computer, at which point it gets slow charged. Have dash charged it once when I was in a rush and was only home for 20 minutes or so, but the battery was getting low.
Maybe I'm missing something, is there a way to change how we charge? I thought it only dash charges.
U can by using 3rd party charger which isn't more than 2A
everyday! and i don't bother charging to specific percentages.... i just take it off the charger when i want to use it
